Blue Tint Problem?

Anyone having the "Blue Tint" problem? it happens when i am on the lowest brightness level and i open up the gmail app the white has a bluish tint. I went to the tmobile store and they exchanged my phone because the display model displayed perfect white when set at the lowest brightness and the gmail app was opened. some euro galaxy s users are also reporting of a blue tint problem when displaying whites. Any one experiencing this?

I've got the same issue. I just figured it was a product of the SAMOLED screen, but I guess I'll swing by the T-Mob store tomorrow and see what's up.

I thought it was a little strange that the Gmail client opened and the tint changed a bit. I also figured it was just something that happens with the SAMOLED.
Please give us an update after you stop by the T-mo store.

Yep its blue here too. I sorta thought it was a bit odd, but figured oh well it sure is easy on the eyes thou.

uhh, that's not normal?

When my wife first saw the screen she said there was a blue tint to it but I wasn't able to see it. But now that others are seeing it too, maybe it is a problem.
Here's what I did... I downloaded one of those flashlight apps that turns your entire screen white. I then did a screen shot with Shoot Me app (for root users).
Then I compared the screen shot with the actual screen and took a picture of it.
I'm not sure if this is a good enough experiment since color settings on my monitor can be different but here is a pic for you guys nonetheless.

The Vibrant color temperature appears to be running hot at about 7800K. There should be a way to adjust the color temperature somewhere.

Seems like it's an SAMOLED issue, but if others have seen demo phones that appear 'warmer', maybe it's not.

Just got back from my trip to the T-Mob store and played with the demo model and 2 reps personal phones any they all have the same issue. I'm going to chalk it up to it being part of the SAMOLED technology and ignore it. It doesn't bother me at all, but if it was a small group that had the issue, I would have exchanged my phone.

This very interesting because I did recognize the blue tint on my phone as well, however my girlfriends phone has a soft yellow tint.
I'm curious what is causing this to happen.
(I remember on the iphones, the old ones had a blue clear tint, while the newer screens had the very same soft yellow tint to it. I know they are two very different screen technology, but it's interesting that I'm seeing it again, except on two of the same batch of phones. I checked the boxes and they are from the same, "litter.")
Anyone find out how we can adjust the color temp on our phones?

I guess, Samsung just averaged this tint. Since blue amoleds with time degrade faster then others, the things will be better at some point and end up with yellow tint several years from now.

I took a picture with my Canon 5D...if you look up at the very top at the black strip that goes across where the notifications show up, you can see the color difference.
If you look closely at the picture you can tell the left is blue and the right is yellow.
IT'S MUCH MORE NOTICEABLE IN WITH THE NAKED EYE.
Any thoughts?

First and foremost, I wouldn't call it a "problem," as the thread indicates. It just is what it is and does no harm...
Anyhow here's some pictures I took of the four Vibrants I have. You can definitely see the contrast now. My phone is #4 on far right. Ice cold blue eh? or actually blue flame kelvin hot! It looks like my HID's on my car and the yellow on the other phones look like my stock yellow oem headlights...

Something I noticed today while reading through comments on Endgadget is that every time I would scroll down (or up), the tint would turn more blue as it scrolled. Release my finger from the screen, and the tint would "snap" back to yellow.
The difference in tint is very subtle, but once I caught onto it, I found it distracting.
I cant say I'm able to replicate this behavior on other websites. Google News and NYT, for example, are fine. Furthermore, I'm not seeing it in the XDA app, Gmail, or the Market.
My overall screen brightness is set to 0 and my browser brightness is also at 0.
Anyone else seeing this?

I have an iphone 3G in hand next to my Vibrant. The iphone's browser clearly has a very neutral white, whereas the Samsung presents whites as very blue-green and much dimmer. I have mine set to auto-bright levels. How do you change the browser's brightness independently?

In browser, Menu > More > scroll down to Brightness Setting.

I have this problem before ,today I got my replacement phone the color is pure white , I think different batch have different color.

Probably the case. Now I'm wondering if it's a setting in the software or if it's a physical LED characteristic?

I can replicate this issue on XDA via the brower on any brightness setting. The screen's slight blue (cool) tint becomes yellowy (warm) when I hold my finger on the page or scroll. Additionally, images become noticeably distorted during the hold-tap, so I assume low quality cache images are being generated for smoother scrolling, and the color temperature is accidentally changed as well.
This would appear to be an issue that software fixes may be able to counter (if any of this is indeed a hardware issue in the first place).

Defect in flash cover design, EVERYONE TEST THIS!!!

So i just noticed this over the holiday weekend. Took about 30 photos all indoor shots some with flash & some without. Noticed on some of the pictures yellowish vertical lines spaced evenly apart throughout the photo. Tried to clean the lens thinking it was dirty. I then noticed the pattern on the flash cover. Began to test this further by taking a picture against a white backround using the flash and sure enough, those yellowish lines were there. Is there something behind the battery cover that I'm supposed to peel off? Can any other owners of the venue pro weigh in on this???
PS I only noticed the vertical lines caused by the flash with iso set on auto/low. When set to 800, they dissappear.

If it's dark enough for the flash to even come on, all I get is a blurry picture anyway, so NO I don't see any yellow lines. All I see is a blur.

The yellow lines were noticed by my brother and I on our original Venue Pros, and we thought it was a software issue. I can confirm that this issue still exists.

take off the back cover and do the same testing. If the problem persist, its the OS or flash itself.
if the problem is completly gone, your issue is the back cover.

yeah I've already tried this... Problem only occurs with the cover on.. I believe its due to the pattern that is imprinted on the flash cover..

This may or may not be related, but I see some horizontal bands of alternating brightness and darkness when I set the ISO to 800. This is with the cover off too. With the ISO still set to 800, I also see some weird artifacts of pure whiteness that look like some Photoshop effect (like the region was dumped with white using the paint bucket tool). This appears in real-time on the on-screen viewfinder as well as in the pictures.

Front Camera Low Light Pink/Purple tint..

Anyone got a purple overlay on their front camera when there is no light?

I get heavy purple or blueish vignetting with the front camera in low light, but only with the stock camera app.
First pic is from stock app, second one is from Google Camera.

Does anybody else see what Fuzalert2k sees when the camera is covered, i.e. dark? That means the image enhancement algorithm goes crazy in low light conditions. Does your camera work normally otherwise?

Yes, the purple hue is also apparent in not-so-low light as you can see from my sample.
No, it's not the same phenomenon at all. This effect is only visible in the end result picture and it's the entire picture rather than just a spot within it. This is also not related to white balance, just seems to be a problem in the post-processing of the stock camera app specifically.

Yeah definitely not the same thing.
Look's like I'll be using Google Camera in future.
I must say Sony really dropped the ball on the Z3C camera software, and have yet to fix it or even acknowledge it.

I come from the HTC One.
The "pink hue when dark situations" was a well known problem there.
For soem time HTC used faulty camera sensors, which caused this problem.
If you experience sthis problem with your HTC One you can send your device in and get a replacement.
I hope that this is not the same wit the Z3Cs.
I for myself can't reenact this behaviour with my Z3C.

You are trying it with the front facing camera, are you?
It wouldn't make sense if it was a faulty sensor because it only happens in the stock camera app.

Now went into a completely dark room.
You are right, with the front cam, there is little bit of pink hue on the edges.
Yes, it is very "good" that it's only visible with the stock app.
Therefore the sensor should be okay.

Camera Flash is not white LED, its yellowish dull LED!!

Not sure if its just me, however, I tried taking a few photos in full darkness with flash on or even in low light. I realized that the flash was very dull and did not produce sharp photos as should happen when the flash is on. This phone has dual LED flash and I can still say that my Galaxy S3 with single LED flash had a better performance and produced really good photos with flash on.
The problem I see here is that the flash is kinda yellow in color while S3 had a pure white flash and that too extremely bright, however, with N6P thats not the case. Has anyone else noticed the same and is there a possible fix for the same ?

The flash on the Nexus 4 is also brighter than this one.

Yes, infact all other phones have a white light flash while this one has a yellowish flash. Even if you're using it as a flash light its evident. This is really depressing to see on an overall excellent phone, though my phone too has that ghoulish yellowish tint, but I've learned to live with it.

I agree, the LEDs are not as bright. My Nexus 5 ( 2013 ) has a stronger LED with a cold white tone while the Nexus 6p is not as bright and has indeed a warm-white tint. It´s not a huge problem though since I don´t use my phone as a torch light.

I believe when I first got it I had used it as a flashlight in a dark bedroom. When I was near the wall I could see that the two LEDs looks like they were different colors. One appeared more yellow while the other was more white. I assumed it had to do with balancing out the flash or something. I didn't really pay much attention to it because I take very few photos with flash.

The Nexus 6P (like many newer phones) has a dual LED flash. One LED is a warm white, while the other is cool white. When taking a photo, the two lights are mixed to create a color balance the camera deems appropriate to the scene. When using the flashlight it just turns them both on at a fixed brightness, resulting in a warm-ish colored light.

I really *don't* like this - there should be an option to just have the cool BRIGHT led activate when the tourch function is used

Ultra wide angle camera question

This is my second week with this unit and it's awesome so far! Took some time for the battery life to get up to par, but got that sorted out and now it's a beast!...like the title suggests though, I do have a question about the ultra wide camera. Can someone try going into a dark room, covering the camera lens when the ultra wide camera is activated, and see if you notice light bleed on the view finder when in 3:4 aspect ratio and no filter on? I notice slight light leakage onto the screen if you look around the edges of the viewfinder. You don't have to cover the lens because it is noticeable in really low indoor light conditions or if the room is extremely dark. The other two lens under the same conditions seem fine. It's not a deal breaker or anything, nor will I return the phone, just wondering if anyone else notice. It's very slight. In decent to good light conditions, you don't notice it at all. And I will say that it doesn't show on pics at all. This is just my OCD kicking in lol. The cameras are actually the best I've used on a phone!

I decided to take a screen shot. Take a look at the upper left hand side. Do you see the light leak? With the other camera lens, the viewfinder is pitch black to match the pitch black scene. If indoors and the light conditions are bad, you'll see the distortion on the viewfinder, but the pic will turn out perfect. Only if you do motion picture do you see it a bit. Anyone have this or an explanation? Definitely not enough for me to return the device, but just wondering if it's normal? Zoom into the photo I attached and you'll see it at the top left.

No one can quickly try this and confirm?

No, no protector applied. When I called Samsung, the rep told me it's normal and her unit does the same. I still don't know. But if you tested in a dark room and you don't get it, that means not every unit has it.
