I have a few questions after 2 days of usage. I'm used to Nexus, where almost everything is possible.
So few things, that annoy me.
Navigation bar:
Is it possible to make it transparent using (my favourite) Nova launcher? I set Nova to 18:9, but it's still not trasnparent ...
HW buttons remap
Is there any mod to remap HW buttons (when screen is off) to any other app than camera and QuickMemo
Lockscreen shortcut
Is it possible to show shortcuts on locksreen even if scrren lock method is "Swipe" - so without pin/pattern, etc...
If you choose any other method, shortcuts are there.
Stock dialer - search
Is somehow possible to set that stock dialer show all search result (when using T9 search) instead of just one and using down arrow to show others ...
Navigation bar should be transparent in Nova, try updating all apps to the latest versions.
I'm looking for HW button remaps too, for now i am using Tasker to do stuff for me.
I can set Lockscreen Shortcuts on "normal" swipe unlock, should work.
Not sure about the dialer, i don't see any extra settings anywhere for the dialer.

Yup, transparent nav. bar now works for me.
Locksreen problem->hmm, after reboot working now.
I changed dialer to ExDialer.
You can remap volume up with Key Plus.

Found that app, thanks.
But, remap is only usefull for led light on/off. If you set any other app (i tried dialer) phone wakes, but you still have to unlock it (swipe, pattern, whatever you have ...) before you see app.

Is there a way to hide or disable the menu bar at the bottom? I would like to replace it with something more minimalistic like zMooth. (on kindle fire stock ROM)
Anyone find anything, I found by installing "No Lock" and moving it to /system/app I can activate it and restart the kindle which causes it to start without locking or showing the menu bar. However the problems with this are:
1. I can't have any security on the device, adding a third party lock screen lke magic locker or go locker bring back the menu bar.
and
2. The bar comes back occasionally for random unknown reasons.
I would also like to know if it is possible to bring the menu bar back in certain applications once it is disabled so I have more control in the web browser. (fullscreen/bookmarks)
Bump, anyone?
I've been trying to figure out how to do this too since I first got it. Even when I use Go Launcher, the menu bar is still there. Very annoying.
You can do it in ADW.

I am aware of this, (it can also be done in go launcher) however I would like it to be replaced with zmooth not just minimized, also adw and go launchers docks get partially cutoff by the minimized menu bar.
Nevermind.
Thanks for pointing this out, the bottom bar was driving me nuts.
I was just curious if there is anyway to hide the black home/back bar at the bottom of the screen? Is there any kind of option to hide it until you tap at the bottom and make it appear? Thanks.

Not with the stock ROM. Some custom roms have this type of feature available though (usually it's a toggle in the Power menu).

You can easily hide it on a stock rom with a build.prop edit. Just add qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 to your build.prop and reboot. Then you have no more navigation bar. You'll need to use something like LMT launcher (here at xda) or Button Savior (in play store) to have the home, recent, back, etc functions (easiest to set up BEFORE rebooting after editing build.prop ).

You can do this, but it's not exactly what the op was looking for. He wants to be able to hide and show the bar at will.
You can use GMD Hidebar or GMD GestureControl to hide the navbar.

Thanks for the help so far guys.

I tried this and it hid the top bar as well. I just want the bottom buttons gone, since I use Button Savior.

Hey, you can use HideBar http://ppareit.github.com/HideBar/ to hide the navigation bar.
Is there a mod that would give me a button on the bottom bar, to open notifications when tapped? The way I usually use this tablet, the top left is the exactly least convenient place to swipe when I'm holding it from the bottom.
I'm on the 3g model but if such a mod exists already, I presume it can be adapted.

Nova or Apex launchers will let you do that very easily.
In the settings you can choose what you want to happen when you tap the home key when you are on the home screen. One of the choices is pull down notifications.

OK, but that's still not a button in the nav bar. I'm looking for a button in the nav bar that pops open the notifications tray, without leaving whatever app I'm in.

i think he's saying to get that button you would need top use a custom launcher such as apex or holo.:good:
With Nova Launcher (I don't have any experience with Apex):
- tap and hold on homescreen
- select "Nova Actions"
- select "Expand Notifications"
When the shortcut is created, drag it to your nav bar.

... and in what ROM are you allowed to drag launcher shortcuts to your nav bar???
To be clear, by nav bar, I mean the black bar along the bottom with the back, home and multitask icons. I am looking to see if there is a mod that can change that to: Back, Home, Multitask, Open Tray.
In some of the cm 10 roms . in the settings /system settings / navigation bar.. You can add two buttons . And change what those do... I am not sure if you can set it to pull notifications or not but i think you might be able to.. I know the euroskank and paranoid android roms have this..
This takes a framework re work.. You will not get this feature in a launcher running on the stock android frame work.. Someone could code this. But doing so would break compatibility with other things .
There would be NO Stock solution for this The ones people are describing above will not work. You can add it to the dock if you have it enables..
Now most launchers Nova prime (what i use) has screen gestures. You could set that to swipe down bring notifications down swipe up close .
Good Luck
Good to know. I guess we'll have to see if devs can expand their ROMs to include 3G, even in absence of full source...

Sorry, my bad, I thought you meant the dock.
Any progress or answers?
I'd like some sort of solution to this.
Even something as simple as opening the notifications with a tap instead of a swipe would make a world of difference.
Maybe you should try a ROM with Tablet UI?

Hi,
I have recently installed iLauncher which has removed the Google search bar widget from the top of the home screen. I am also aware that other launchers like nova can do this.
However, I am still unable to figure out how to remove the same google search bar that appears when I enter the app switcher (recent apps). This app switcher being what appears when you press the right hand side square button at the bottom of the screen on the home screen, where you can close the apps you have running.
I have no clue how to remove the search bar from here and it is very annoying, as it is on the switcher but not on my home screen and I do not want it on either.
I have included screenshots of my home screen and the switcher so you see what I mean.
Thanks.

It depends on the custom ROM you're running, most custom ROM's have their own settings menu to configure options that are usually not found in AOSP. You have to search there and see if there's a menu for recent apps and the option to show or hide search on recent apps should be there.
Xposed and GravityBox is always an option

I am not running a custom ROM though, just stock marshmallow with a different launcher installed.
Is there really no way to remove the search bar from recent apps?
You can do either of the above or request the launcher dev to include it. That's 3 options, just for you.
Nova Launcher allows this to be removed
I'm using the Navigation Gestures app from XDA, which works pretty well for me. However, I don't want to use the adb method for hiding the nav keys because I heavily rely on my phone and don't want to be out of nav keys if the app should crash and I am away on business.
The built-in way to hide navigation keys works well in almost every regard, but for whatever reason there's no option to hide the navigation keys in launchers (in my case Action Launcher). It makes no sense to me because I think the launcher is one place where you need the nav bar the least since you don't need Back and Home, only Recents is occasionally needed.
So, my question is: Does any one know a quick workaround or an additional app that allows to hide the navigation bar in launchers?
Thank you guys for any ideas!

I used this before oreo. With it you can disable it anywhere, system-wide. But it probably uses the same method as xda nav gestures to do it(adb or root). With the same risks.
