When I try to unlock my phone using the iris scanner in the dark, I can see my face on the camera, even if I'm in the dark.
So here is my question : is there any way to create an app who uses the iris scanner and turn it into an infra-red camera able to see in the dark ?
Night porn original what ??

it wouldn't have enough power
just consider this infra red beam it emits as a torch. but the light is invisible to our eye..
this is gonna be a seriously small, dim 'torch'
then that light has to hit the object, reflect, lose way more of that original (lack of) brightness, and the probably standard ish sensor wouldn't be that sensitive and probably wouldn't pick up much if any of it (unless it was right in front of it, such as our face)
Aside from this particular use, is there a way to access this camera at all or is it shielded behind some unbreakable Knox thing?

Hello, has anyone noticed that the led when using as flash light is pretty week? I've had Nexus before this phone and it lighted very strong, sometimes I even used it as light in repairing the cars and this one is useless?

Yeah I've noticed that too

Yes, it is. But for photos it's fine for me.
Yes, it's weaker, because it's primary function is to aid the camera in low light and the Exmor sensor does not need that much light, since the photos are fine with the flash.
The one one the M7 was much brighter, but people always complained about being blinded when taking a photo, so this is actually quite good... unless you use it to repair cars and such
Well much clear now . Not actually repair but sometimes this led was helpful, now I need something else .

Another thing to note is that most flagship phones these days are equipped with DUAL led flash where z3 compact is equipped with one led flash.
That's where the lack of light comes in.
My Nexus is with one light but much brighter. Tried to tweak this one but without luck.

The LED can seem to go much brighter than when in flashlight mode. I've taken photos in the dark and the flash is much brighter than the flashlight. It's almost like flashlight mode is throttling the LED (perhaps due to overheating risk?). Annoying nonetheless. I used my N4's flashlight while walking down dark trails and it was pretty good. The Z3c flashlight is too weak for anything other than close-range lighting.

Same "problem"for me all my phones in the past were very helpfull at work or when walking around in the evening or at night, my xperia's (i have a z3, too) aren't too helpful. never had overheating problems before, and i regularly made use of the flashlight, often more than 5 minutes. now i have to carry an additional flashlight, very disappointing:crying:
Good news is, that the torch can function much brighter than it is currently in flashlight mode.
Unfortunately to change that you must have root and modify some values in system/etc. Looks like Sony choose the safe way for flashlight mode (just as pipspeak wrote), because this way it can be turned on for an eternity without overheating.
By the way it's easy to confirm, just point at a dark area with flashlight on, then try to autofocus in the same spot with the camera, you instantly see the difference.

Its normal IRIS cant read info on ur face cos sunlight burn the image as there is no pixel in that area so it cant reconize you... like when u take a photo with flash and it makes whits spots in ur face ( burned image ) thats why it works better in lower light .. evene in zero light condition it unlocks my phone....
Hi All!
I've been reading that many users got ligh leaks above the front facing camera and he iris scanner on the S8 (to check it you need to go to a dark room, put the brightness on max and use a white backgour, or for example, slide the notifications slider and cover the top of the display with your hand, looking to the front facing camera area, while tilting the phone in order to get the leak visible).
While not being an issue regarding IP68 protection as it is just light being reflected by he glass, and not an actual gap between the glass and the metal, it is tremendously annoying. My new S8 has it and I am thinking about an exchange.
Yet, and to know if while exchanging I will get my issue solved, could you just answer this inquiry, please?
Thanks in advance!
Am I the only on who thinks, that the hunchback camera module is beyond ugly?
I wish we could get back the s8 design with the plain camera. Or maybe the centered design of the S10.
But I really cannot stand the new look.

+1 Feeling the same
Ever since they started showing screen shots of what the camera bump is going to look like on the S20/S11, I have read complaints about how ugly it is - I honestly don't feel that way -
I look at things a bit more pragmatically:
1) I rarely look at the back of the phone
2) I always put a case on the phone to add protection - typically I use a Clear Case, like RINGKE FUSION, and in my opinion, it tends to de-emphasize the "bump" somewhat - because of the way the case is usually built up around the bump to offer improved protection for when the phone is put flat on a table.
3) I spend 99% of my time looking at what's on the front of the phone - I look at the screen - so whatever the back of the phone looks like is inconsequential. The people who are most exposed to what the back of the phone looks like are those people I take pictures of and frankly, I care more about what the picture looks like than how ugly they might think the back of my phone is.
so is the camera big on the back ? YES - the better to see you with my dear! LOL
The payoff of having an incredible camera, phenomenal zoom capabilities and all of the other benefits offered by this camera more than outweigh any negatives there might be.
Finally - personally - I don't see the camera bump as ugly at all -from everything I have seen it is a great looking phone with a large camera element on the back - that's all.
I respect your right to have an opinion, and if you think it is ugly no problem - I hope you can get past that because from everything I have read, it is going to be one hell of a smartphone.
Nowadays even mobile phone got tumour too ??

Larger camera bumps mean larger sensor and bigger lenses so better quality. So it's not a tumour ?
I want to remove the light of the fingerprint. I was reading that burn the amoled screens in OnePlus and i hate that light.
How i can remove it.
I know u can´t remove it with the rom, so i image that i need a mod.
Thanks.
You can't remove the light. The reason is that the in-display fingerprint scanner is an optical one. This means that behind the screen there is a very small camera that takes photos of your fingerprint. In order to do that it needs light, hence the illumination you see. You shouldn't worry about it. It lights only for a fraction of second which isn't enough to cause a burn in. Xiaomi's engineers have thought of that.
