Phone calling on it's own - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

New phone 8+.
My Otterbox case covers front of the phone too so not a butt call.
The phone initiates calls on its own.
Especially not nice if it is in another time zone.
Help very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Mine has started doing that. My 7edge and note 5 had done that previous to this phone. It is annoying. Once last year (7edge) my phone randomly called our plant manager at work around 11 pm?. As for the 8 Plus it's been calling recent texted contacts. I haven't set up any auto calling features etc. Suppose I should check settings etc

Delayed texts suck.!

Don't you hate when you are having a great convo with someone, missed a great party, or showed up to work late cause of a delayed or getting no text at all. Arrrg I hate delayed texts. Freaking shocks me when I get a call and then all of sudden 20 texts come in all at once. Wish there was fix. Latest guys.

No **** man. I know starting threads is bad but I thought it be cool to talk bout this with others that are having this retarded issue. **** my ole school Nokia phone never had delayed texts and that was 10 yrs ago 0-o

I've been having this issue too. Is it a problem on spirnt's end or a manufacturer hardware/software issue?
Best is when texts arrive out of sequence and delayed.
I hope most people realize texts are not as reliable as email, especially when sent between different providers.
No problems here but I did have this issue all the time with Alltell before AT&T bought em
Yeah, I get this problem quite often between my wife and me. It seems to be random when it happens. I'm thinking it's a Sprint issue, not hardware or software.
just stopped in to flame for your use of "convo" lol. I personally hate having a text conversation, that's why I have a phone. I try to keep texts short and sweet.

That happened to me last night, I got 44 texts all at once and a pissed off girlfriend.
Happening to me as well. Texted my wife "Stopping for dinner - do you want anything?". Got her reply after I walked in the door - with food only for me!

ahaha that must have went well...
A phone call will "normally" fix it. Sometimes it wont even make a call while this is happening.
Instant messaging seems to be the only way, other than a phone call, to ensure messages get through. And avoid pissed off wives/girlfriends.
I know, I am starting to rely on using google chat/trillian to get my message thru to the wife friends and all. I like the one about getting food for himself, that happened to me the other day and I was a unhappy camper sharing with the wife. But the thing is phone conversations i hate cause of akward silence. Texts is just straight to the point and easy to hide. hahaha
Look on the bright side.. You get free mobile-mobile. It takes 20 seconds to ask the question and receive an answer vs sending a text, waiting for it to be received and acknowledged.
This has to be one of those generation gap things. For years I hated texts and texting, still do. However it is beneficial to non time critical events.

and for those times where you cant call.
I don't know if im clients or google voice would eat up more battery. I used to go the gv route since that goes through the internet and not sms with the carrier. Of course it helps if the other side had gv too.
sucks big time!

Phone randomly hanging up calls?

Anyone else have issues with their phones randomly hanging up calls? I am running stock rooted with some tweaks, but it was doing this before I rooted or applied tweaks. I shrugged it off at first thinking it was a fluke with the network, but now it's getting in the way of my phones functionality. I hung up on a customer 3 times today, defintelty didn't look good haha.
Basically I'm simply on the phone and all of a sudden it beeps like they ended the call and it hangs up. It happens in full service or less, and all air gesture and motion/voice options are turned off, unless there's something I'm missing. Any input is appreciated, thanks in advance. Cheers!

Well it would have nothing to do with air gestures or other TW features such as those. But maybe they are doing service upgrades in your area. What modem are you on? Maybe try the dialer code (dial "##72786#"), it will reset your network and reboot a couple of times automatically, you don't have to do anything.

Well the dialer code didn't seem to help, and Sprint is telling me they are not doing any work in our area. The issue makes the phone almost unusable for phone calls. Having to borrow others phones to make calls is not what I spent $300 bucks plus my monthly bill for.. :crying:

Your proximity sensor might be messed up. I think you can exchange your phone within 30 or 90 days, if that's the case. Can't really think of anything else besides a hardware issue
You could always try resetting it back to factory settings.

Can you talk and surf?

I am wondering if talk and surf is back in S7. I could not believe they dropped in in S6. Thank you.
If you mean advanced calling yes it does have it.

Thank you for replying. I remember reading people were having a lot of problems with S6 with advanced calling with calls dropping and other things. How is it on S7? Thank you.
No problem, I love it. It really is a nice phone. I came from a z3v and waited over a year for Verizon to give us advanced calling. This phone is is a little worse on battery but with actual quick charge, fills up faster than I could have imagined. I had advanced calling through a leaked version of lollipop on z3v and never dropped a call. That is just my experience though.

I can't remember the last time I dropped a call with Verizon period. Love it or hate it, they have great service.

But advanced calling costs extra from Verizon, right?

No extra cost associated with it.
I'll definitely check that out. Thanks Jayno20!
Whenever I've tried advanced calling it sounds bad, but that's me personally. I've tried on the Z3v, V10 and this S7. Maybe I'll try it more but from my few experiences I'm not happy with the quality.
That's the first I've ever heard that. Everyone that hears it has nothing but good things to say.

Typically for me, when I had it on I rarely got anyone else with HD calling enabled on their phone. The only person I really try it with is my girlfriend, but maybe she's just awful at using her phone. The experiences I had were it sounded clear, but it would randomly get really quiet for no reason at all. Like I said, I'll try it out again and see how it goes with other people. I noticed with Hangouts calling it sounded crisp, like I was in the same room with the person but at the same time if my data connection were to fluctuate or change, it gave a weird electrical tone. Like, their voice would drop into a strange static, which I've experienced with HD calling.

As can I, S7 on VZW..
It is not enabled when I Talk and Surf on data...
I would recommend tethering the phone to your person so if you fall off the board it will be fine. It is water resistant so you should be fine.

Input mic not working

I had recently purchased a Verizon HTC. The phone has been great up until a few days ago. The mic for non speaker calls or google voice search no longer works.
I have tried a factory reset to no avail. Has anyone else been having similar issues?
I wanted to see if there was a setting I may have turned off/on that could cause this before returning to Verizon to RMA. Thanks for any help or input (No pun intended)

Usually these are a dead mic on the flex board and have to be rma'd. Problem goes back a couple HTC phone generations.

Thanks for the reply. Called Verizon and they will be sending me a new one out today.
Figure I would make others aware of the problem.
I could understand if I dropped or spilled something on it but I always treat my phones like a baby.
I only had one HTC DNA which I got on release day and used it up until the release of the 10 and never had any issue with it.
Lets hope this does not become a common problem.

call canceled when screen off

Getting a bit frustrated here, have my 6t now for a week but whenever someone calls while the phone screen is off I swipe up to answer and the call simply disappears getting me a missed call SMS a few seconds later. I'm on Telekom Germany, recently updated 6t, nearly stock, no root, no change in dialer or launcher until now. Hesitate a bit to do a complete hard reset since it's always a bit of work to setup again. Anyone has an idea what could be happening here?
Umm isnt swipe DOWN to answer?
Read the screen when you get a call. It's swipe down to answer. Unless you go into phone setting and activate the swipe of to answer gesture.
Holy mother of whatever!!!
Have been using a pixel XL before that and it seems I adapted too much to it. I'd spent both of you a beer if I had a chance in person. How embarassing was that. Big thanks, I'll try to forget that I asked!

You can configure swipe up to answer though in settings
It took me two weeks to figure this out too. I had been so used to swipe up on HavocOS on my OP3 that I never looked at the screen when answering the phone until last night I noticed it was swipe down.

Bro I've ignored so many calls on accident with the swipe down.
Didn't know you could change the swipe. Doing that now lol
