So the repair centre have sent my phone back... - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
First post here, go easy on me.
I've had my Nexus 6P for about 18 months and the battery life is becoming a bit of problem (not again right?), admittedly I do charge it whenever I can but that's because the damn thing gives me something like 2 hours of on-screen browsing time. Lately it started to shut down at 30% too so I basically can use the phone for about an hour from full before dies.
I spoke to Huawei and surprisingly the phone is still in warranty and they got me to send it back. 5 days later today, I got my phone back, thinking they would change the battery, however the analysis says they did a software update and 'screening'. I turned on the phone it's been reverted back to 6.0.1.
Now here's the dilemma:
1) Do I keep this version and see how it goes? Perhaps the engineers are trying to tell me this is the best version?
2) Update to 7.1.1, the notification keeps popping up, perhaps they did other software update apart from reverting back to Marshmallow and it should work ok now?
3) just sell the damn thing and get a S8 plus

Sell. The phone is a mess, doesn't matter what version of Android you're on. Poor, poor QC from Huawei.

And worse customer service, they wont even fix the phone if its out of warrant, even if its only 2 weeks out. you get told to send to 3rd party repair.
They won't touch it.

Trust me, if you were in the same position you wouldnt help them. You have 365 days from purchase to state an issue with the phone, and on day 375 there's an issue? Sure, Huawei makes **** products, but they offer a one year warranty, just like every other legit company. It is not 100% their fault.

I trusted the company to make a decent product. I understand why you say that and where do you draw the line on warranty thinking, at the end of a year of course.
HOwever.
Generally speaking this is bad business which every other legit manufacturer I have dealt with has understood as well.
I have had cars, appliances even houses repaired "Out of warranty" because they were JUST out of warranty.
To be fair I had been experiencing random reboots, usually overnight so I didnt think any thing of it since I was not experiencing anything as bad as some of the other ppl who's posts of disgruntlement with this device litter the internet. So maybe it is not 100% their fault. Maybe.
It seems that the problem with these devices is so bad the rep told me they had recently changed their policy on warranty but he did not know why. I think coherently extrapolating we can come to a reasonable conclusion about the why.
I would have paid some for warranty service as well, thinking that a factory refurb would be legit. Even this small courtesy was not offered , I was told " In this case you will have to contact a third party technician to fix this issue."
WTF? Even LG repaired my Nexus 5 out of warranty for which I happily paid.
But Thank You for giving me this opportunity to clarify the situation.
Zo0

Well over the last few days I have been patiently waiting to see any improvement on 6.0.1, I got 9 hours standby in total, with probably 1-2 hours of total on screen browsing time. This prompted me to upgrade to the latest version and it has been just as bad as when I first sent it off for repairs. So the 'repair' was a waste of time.
Now either S8+ or Oneplus 5 :fingers-crossed:

Bought brand new G2 that came with 2.3.3[Battery question]

So 3 days ago I bought a brand new G2 off cragislist (still had all the peel off stickers) for 200. The guy said he had it replaced by t-mobile cause his old phone didn't send mms or something. His daughter bought him a newer phone so he decided to sell this one. Anyway, he gave me his old battery and battery cover since tmo didn't include it.
when I first got it the battery life was terrible, and I didn't even have the data plan hooked up yet. After connecting to my wifi and surfing/downloading apps, about 10% drained in less than a few minutes. I let it drop to 30% and charged it fully (first time). The first thing I noticed was that it was kinda "stuck" at 100% for a while... then it dropped to about 96% and started draining from there. I then made sure to turn all the data and wifi off and went to sleep when it was at 78%. Woke up 8 hours later and it dropped to 71.
Now my question is, should I have charged it all the way, then played with it til it died, then recharge it again? Or is that unnecessary since the battery is old anyway and it doesn't matter if its a new phone?
After a few more charges, it seems like the battery is a bit better but I'd still like for it to last longer. I still feel like I'm getting inaccurate readings though. Still gets stuck at 100%, then at 70%. Should I let it die all the way to calibrate the battery?
Also, I heard rooting the phone and flashing the cm7 rom will improve battery life, is that true? Cause I had the mytouch3G a while ago so I'm sorta familiar with the rooting process but I didn't notice any battery improvements.
Thanks.
edit: the phone came with the 2.3.3 firmware.
The age of the battery is irrelevant since the phone is new, and the phone calibrates itself based on how you use it to give the best possible battery life, aside from the occasional run-away app/process. It is always best to take the battery all the way dead and fully charge a few times (like 3-5) to get the most out of it. This has been my experience, and what Tmo recommends when you buy any new android phone from them.
I contacted HTC to inquire how they recommend the battery be charged. Below is their response:
A lithium-ion cell phone battery needs to be conditioned when brand new. For the first three charge cycles, fully charge the battery overnight and allow it to fully discharge before recharging. Extensive overcharging may damage a Lithium-ion battery or if it is left on the charger for more than 24 hours.
Lithium-ion batteries operate more poorly at low temperatures. Temperatures below freezing can cause the battery to lose its discharge levels and sputter out more quickly. While these batteries do not suffer from memory effect, they should be fully charged and discharged every 30 uses.
I've got a G2 with the 2.3.3 firmware, just received as an insurance replacement last week.
I can confirm that the battery life is appallingly bad. I used to go through 75% of one battery in a day, I'm going through two batteries daily now.
This beta build is a POS!

So is it too late to condition the battery since I've been using it for a few days now?
For those that are rooted and running a custom ROM, did you notice any improvements in battery life? I'd imagine the power management is better and that getting rid of all the tmo bloatware would make it easier on the batt.

Glad I'm not the only one with this issue. What firmware were you running on your old phone? And would I be able to downgrade?

I was running CM 7.0.3 with fairly heavy daily usage. Have you noticed any other problems? I've noticed that apps don't show up in the app drawer unless you powercycle after download. Also, the browser seems to crash a lot, and it isn't playing well with the Amazon appstore. (Most of my apps that I had acquired on Amazon apparently can't be downloaded.)
There is a known battery drain issue on gingerbread for all phones. Also lithium ion batteries do not need to be discharged as this damages the battery itself. They are smart enough not to not require calibration.

Incidentally, if the phone was brand new, never been used, it probably shows in the "Device Model Warranty Tool" as a new phone with a twelve month manufacturer warranty and a three month accessories warranty. (The DMWT is an internal tool the TMO reps use to verify your warranty status)
You should be able to get an extra battery just by calling up and telling them that the battery you have dies very quickly. (All batteries have a 90 day warranty on them, and they don't require you to send back the old battery they just send you a replacement.) Tell them you've tried the master reset and playing around with the display settings and all that jazz. The trick is, whatever they suggest, just tell them you've already done it and sound convincing.
If the rep gives you a hard time, just call back and tell the next rep that your phone is randomly powering off and when they ask you if you've tried another battery, tell them no, because you don't have another battery to test. Lol, it's best if you sound kind of confused when they ask you that question That should lead them to a battery replacement on their troubleshooting flow.

I don't have any problems with apps not showing up. My browser is just fine, it hasn't crashed once on me. Lastly, I don't use Amazon for apps, so I wouldn't know.

Thanks for the suggestion man! I'll call them right now.
Do I need to give them the serial numbers, etc on the back of the phone or will they see it in their system? cause I have a hard plastic case on it and it's a bit of a pain to remove it.
Tell them that you aren't calling from the phone, otherwise they'll probably give you a hard time and try and get you on a different phone for "troubleshooting."
It might be easier if you waited about three days before you call, make a few phone calls with the new phone so that it shows up on their system. (Phones show up on the warranty system after the system "tags" them and you have to make a phone call for that to happen)
You can always get the IMEI number by hitting "*#06#" (no quotation marks) from within your dialer.
And don't tell them you bought it off Craigslist. Tell them you got it brand new for full retail at one of their third party dealer locations. (Car Toys, Jacks Cell Phone Emporium, The Phone store, whatever, it doesn't matter what you tell them, they won't look it up)
(Just in case you already called and they gave you a hard time, just call back a couple of times with some complicated troubleshooting questions, dropped calls are a good one for this and get the memo "buried" then call back and try again for the battery.)
Oh, wait, belay my last. Lol, sorry, I just realized I might be about to lead you astray.
You need to wait 14 days before you try this. If you do it before 14 days are up they're going to tell you to return the phone to the place you got it. They only do battery replacements after the "buyer's remorse" period is up.
(14 days everywhere in the US except for CA, where it's 30)
My bad!
(Again, if you already called and got the runaround, no worries, you can still make it happen, just call back a few times get them to troubleshoot some dropped calls or "dead spots" around your house, SMS problems, go over your bill a few times or whatever comes to mind, just so that whatever notes the rep left get buried in the memo list, then call back after the buyer's remorse period is up and go for the battery replacement)
Edit: I just realized you're in CA. You're going to have to wait 30. Sorry bro
Damn, oh well.
Btw, I googled "2.3.3 battery drain" and read up on some Nexus One users complaining about it. Pretty much all of them said that when they open up "Battery use" it tells them that the Android OS is using anywhere from 35-50% of the battery. But on mine, the display is using it the most. Second, it's voice calls and then Cell Standby. The OS isn't even on the list! Is this normal?
Are you still on Gingerbread btw? I want to downgrade to Froyo until this all gets fixed.

Lol, to be honest, I have four batteries for my G2, so I don't tend to pay that close attention to the battery life, although when I was rooted I played around with adjusting Wifi scan intervals with root tools and other settings with Juice Defender and had some major improvements. Mostly though CM7 and Pershoot's kernel took good care of me and I didn't worry about it that much.
My experience with Android is that it's the display that chews up most of the battery, I usually leave my display set on 100% brightness all the time and that uses the majority of the battery life. I haven't really looked into it farther than that. There's a pretty cool app called Screebl out there that adjusts your display timeout based on the phone's orientation that I use and I think that helps some with the battery as well.
Right now I'm waiting on another replacement, I told them this phone was randomly powering off so that they'd send me another one without arguing about it. This thing is way too buggy for me to deal with, plus I saw an article on Tmonews that had a screenshot from Streamline (the Tmobile intranet) that indicated that it was an "error" that caused people to get the beta 2.3.3 build through warranty replacement, so I'm hoping that the phone I've got coming has 2.2 on it. (Knock on wood)
If there's a method to downgrade, I don't think it's been made public yet. Everything I'm seeing on here, the Cyanogen forums and in #g2root indicates that at the present time the phone can't be downgraded, which sucks balls.
Heh, PM me if you run into a method that works! I'd be eternally grateful I want my root back!
(And you should check out the Amazon appstore. They give away a free paid app every day, and sometimes its a good one. Also some of their app prices are cheaper then the Android market)

This is all very false information, and poor recommendations.
Li-ion batteries do not need to be conditioned. Battery conditioning applies to old tech NiCad batteries. What you actually want to do is properly calibrate the volt meter on the phone itself. Charge fully to 100%, leave it there for a while to make sure its obtains the top-off charge, then drain to around 20% (repeat 3 times or so). Discharging a Li-ion battery too low can render it incapable of taking a charge, forcing you to replace the battery. There is a safety circuit to prevent this, but its not 100% failsafe. Several people on here have reported not being able to charge their G2's battery (and other phones too) after letting it discharge fully. And there is really no benefit to letting the battery drain until the phone is dead.
The battery meter may become inaccurate after a while, and re-calibrating may help. Again, charge to 100%, and drain to 20%. You can also clear the battery stats on the phone and start over.
You can read more on Li-ion batteries at Battery University:

Since its a brand new phone, the battery/volt meter on the phone was not accurate. Cycling the battery by charging to 100%, and draining to 20%, repeat a few times, and you get more accurate battery meter readings. Your experience after charging and draining to 30% is probably more accurate than when you started. The batter meter being "stuck" at full is pretty normal. Mine usually says full for up to a couple hours, then drops much faster after that.
Also remember that the battery meter on phones is not that accurate to begin with, its a limitation of the technology. A 1% battery meter increment is misleading, they really aren't that accurate. In fact, some phone ROMs only display battery level in 10% increments. So take the battery levels with a grain of salt.

That's probably your main problem right there. The display backlight is the biggest battery drain for any smartphone, and 100% is way too bright. Looks pretty, but its killing your battery. Turn it down as much as your personal preference allows, and depending on your most typical lighting conditions. I have mine turned down to 35%. You will likely find your battery life to increase greatly.
Rommy, I was reading up on cyanogen forums and happened to run into your thread. You said you got a replacement with 2.2 on it... is there any way they can do that warranty thing for me as well since this is a new phone? I hate how I can't just downgrade I don't want to be stuck on this pos beta build.

Lol, I feel ya brother.
So here's where things stand as far as I understand your situation. (And bear in mind, Tmo policies may have changed since I left there, my info is close to a year old. The buyer's remorse policy as far as I know has stayed pretty constant though, as it's mostly dictated by applicable state law.)
Basically the way the policy is written is that you can't do a warranty exchange while you're within the "buyer's remorse period" that period is set by state law. Most states give you 14 days, CA gives you thirty. Lol, which normally would be cool, but kind of sucks for your situation
Like I said in my earlier post, assuming the phone really was brand new (and be aware, just because it had pull off stickers doesn't mean it's brand new, they put those on reconditioned phones as well) it should show up in the TMO "device model warranty tool" as a brand new device with a 1 year warranty on the equipment and a 90 day warranty on accessories. (A reconditioned device will either appear as "warranty not verified" or with a 90 day equipment warranty) The warranty should show up with the first day being the first day you made a phone call with the device.
Now, if you call and tell them you want a new phone, there's a couple of things to bear in mind. First, you need to give them a good story about why the phone is jacked up and can't be fixed through troubleshooting. Intermittent freezing is always a good one for that. Be sure to tell them you already tried a factory reset so that they don't make you do that and call back in three days or some such bull****. (Don't worry about what you tell them here, when the phone arrives at the repair center, nobody goes in to verify your story, sometimes reps will tell you that, but they're full of it. All they do is check for liquid damage and physical damage.)
Second, you may have to explain how you acquired the phone. (Whether or not you'll have to explain this is dependent on a bunch of factors and would take way too much time to explain. Suffice to say, be prepared to have an explanation.) DO NOT SAY YOU GOT IT ON CRAIGSLIST!!! (Lol) This will cause the rep to tell you that the warranty is not valid. (Technically the warranty may still be valid if you have insurance, which I'll explain later, but this is knowledge that the rep you're talking to probably doesn't have, and believe me, you don't want to spend half an hour trying to convince the rep and his supervisor to look closely into policy.)
The best story would go something like this: "Me and the Mrs. were on a trip to Vegas, and my phone started messing up so I stopped in at a store, I really can't remember the name, I think it was a Tmobile Store, but I'm not sure, it might have been called "Bob's Cell Phone Emporium" or "Jack of All Phones" or something like that. Honestly, the trip was so crazy, I can't even find the receipt now, but they told me the phone was brand new!" As long as the phone shows up with a warranty in the Device Model Warranty Tool, the rep isn't going to go investigating your story. (And if for some bizarre reason they try to, just hang up, call back and try again with a different rep)
I'm getting a little ahead of myself though. Before you do any of that, you need to do the following: Call TMO, and ask them what kind of warranty your G2 has. Ask them for dates. Tell them you just want the info for your records. (Again, if they ask where you got the phone, use some variation of the storyline I provided above) If they tell you, your G2 warranty expires on June 18, 2012, or whatever, you're golden. (Again, if the device was reconditioned, it might only have a 90 day warranty, still no problem) If they tell you that they don't have any warranty info, or if it's "warranty not verified" then don't argue with them, just hang up and call back and do the following:
(There are a myriad number of reasons the phone might show up as "warranty not verified" again, way too complicated to explain and not really relevant to what we're talking about anyway.)
Insurance time! Okay, so here's the deal with Asurion. Regardless of whether you feel their prices are highway robbery, (and they are, the price just went up too to 7.99
sometimes their service is useful. This would be one of those times. The rules for insurance (and please bear in mind that my info may be out of date, however I'm pretty sure this hasn't changed, but don't string me up if it has! lol) are that you can add it within 14 days of getting a new phone. It doesn't matter where you got the phone. (This came directly from an Asurion executive who once visited the call center I worked at) What Asurion looks at is whether you changed IMEI's within 14 days prior to adding their insurance. So, if you get the "warranty not verified" line, just call back, and tell the next rep that you want to add insurance. If they ask you if you just got a phone, the answer is yes. If they give you a hard time, don't argue, just hang up and try again. You'll find a rep who will add the insurance. Once you have the insurance, wait a day, then call back and tell them the phone is frozen. The PHP insurance will get you a replacement, and the TMO rep can put the exchange through without transferring you to anyone. (Sometimes the reps don't know that they can put exchanges through on "warranty not verified" equipment, so if they tell you they can't, just ask for a supervisor or threaten to cancel and get transferred to the save team)
You don't have to keep the insurance either if you think it's a waste of money. Just wait until you get the replacement device, make sure it works, then cancel the coverage if you don't want it.
Lol, okay that was a mouthful. Last point: buyer's remorse. What I was just telling you about checking the warranty status and adding insurance if necessary you need to do right now, because the clock is ticking on that. (14 days to add insurance from the first date of usage) Getting the actual exchange done may require waiting. (If it's a warranty not verified situation, you can probably just get it done now after adding insurance)
Now, one way to get around the thirty day wait may be to do the following. If you have a friend who lives out of state and who you trust, change your billing address to their house, hang up, call back and do an exchange and have the phone sent there, and from there they can send it to you. (Also remember if asked to tell them that you got the phone in a state other then CA, and you'll still have to wait until 14 days from the date of first usage has elapsed. Also, TMO won't let you change your billing address back to your house until 30 days have gone by from the date of change)
Lol, anyway, if you're confused by any of this, reply to this thread or PM me and I'll try to clarify whatever I said as best I can. Also, as a disclaimer, I'm not an insurance agent, so any discussion here about the ins and outs of Asurion's coverage is purely for educational purposes and shouldn't be taken as a promise of coverage
Thanks for the help man, really appreciate it. I called them and asked about my warranty and turns out the phone really is brand new. I bought it on the 14th and she told me I have the warranty until June 14th of 2012!
Now I told her about the issues I'm having with the 2.3.3 firmware (freezing up, restarting, browser crashing, battery life, etc) and she asked me where I got the phone. I told her I bought it at a tmobile store and she told me that if I'm experiencing these issues then I should take it back to the store as I have 30 days to return it.
I then told her I bought it while I was in Vegas lol. She said I'm sorry but she can't do anything at this point. I asked her if I could speak to one of her supervisors and she said told me to hold on while she looked over some things. After I got off hold I was told that it was a problem that a few people were experiencing but t-mobile and htc are supposedly working out a solution via an upgrade but she doesn't know when and couldn't give me a date(sounds like BS). Told me that they can't replace it and I asked for a supervisor once again.
She connected me to one, asked me if I did a reset, to which I replied yes. Finally, they allowed me to get it exchanged... asked me for my billing info but then told me that they charge $20 for this service (would be $5 if I had insurance). Told me it would be free at the place I bought from but that's obviously not a option for me.
I asked her what happens if my replacement phone comes with the same software and I experience the same issues... she informed me that tmo would waive the $20 fee.
Do they really charge $20 for all this or are they trying to rip me off? I've never done any replacements so I wouldn't know. lol
I'm willing to pay but if the Gingerbread fix/update is coming soon like the representative told me then I guess I could keep it. That's if the battery drain issue is fixed.

Terrible experience with LG

Hi All,
I need to ask you all something and I used to go on this a while ago for my Galaxy phone but now I have a big problem with my new phone LG G3. Here goes:
Had my G3 for about 8 months, got it the day it came out for Verizon. Recently started noticing i was no longer able to long press icons, long press snapchats, and use the screen in various ways. Called LG since its under warranty they said send it in and theyll repair it.
Went and used their label and put into an box and sent it. One week later they received it and very quickly a package was sent out to me, even seemed like they didnt receive the package before the new one was sent. Well, by week 2 they sent back the WRONG PHONE. It was an optimus phone. Here's where it gets bad.
Calling their customer support and being on hold for very long periods of time, they said multiple times that I had in fact gotten the correct phone and me telling them no its not, they finally realized and said oh ok you received the wrong phone. They then told me even my other phone would be returned to me 'as is' because of 'Liquid Damage'. This is an all out lie, they sent me a blurry photo(attached) of the innards of a phone with 'corrosion' around the outside saying thats the water damage.
THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE. I took care of my phone like a baby, had a big case, not a scratch or blemish on it it has never been near or in the water ever. I tell them that they say well there's nothing we can do and they will be contacting me about instructions for sending back the wrong phone and how they're going to first find, then get my old broken phone back to me.
I could not believe the mess this has become. Going on 3 weeks now without a phone and even when I do get it back, which will be for weeks at this rate, itll still come back broken and with the lie that I had water damage.
Even funnier (more suspicious) the phone that they sent me also says 'Sent back unrepairable -- liquid damage'. So they did it to this guy, and me, and it all seems a bit too easy for them to just get phones and send them back saying its liquid damage and making it up so they dont repair them.
Going to be a month without a phone and even when I do get it back its still broken, what should I do? Guess just go to my insurance and get it replaced, which means I need to pay the deductable and who knows the hurdles going that route..great..
Anything you guys think I can do? This is a very disappointing and frustrating situation which Im sure Im not alone in.. Thanks

I need to ask you all something and I used to go on this a while ago for my Galaxy phone but now I have a big problem with my new phone LG G3. Here goes:

I would suggest you take this issue to social media. Tweet them and post your experience on reddit. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
I tried for 2 weeks to send my G3 back due to ghosting i was seeing on the screen, after 7 different calls and chats to customer service about my shipping label that they INSISTED they had emailed me (which to this day i still have not received) i simply gave up. From the sounds of your story it sounds like it was maybe for the better i never sent it in!!! Love the product, but VERY unimpressed with customer service.

YES. I guess they lied to you and me my friend. I bit the bullet paid $99 through insurance and my new phone will be here today. Just end this nightmare! LOL
I posted this same story on a bunch of forums, I think I will take to social media also. They need to be called out on lies and terrible, awful, dirty tricks customer service!!
Great phone though thats why its so disappointing. Thanks for the replys guys!!
AFAIK you could let an authorized LG workshop analyse the problem and get it fixed and eventually sue LG for breaking the local and international guarantee laws. First things first: menace to do this. Then make the action (because you are sure you never put water or vapor on your phone, you're in right).
If I were you the first thing is to notify consumer association (here in Croatia we have consumer association which warns a various state institutions about consumer problems). Then I would go straight to the service workshop where you sent your device without notice of your arrival no matter how much far is that from your town and force them to open your device infront of you and to show damage which is caused by some liquid. Take the photo with you printed in color which you received from them as evidence and compare it with your device's mainboard. Of course try to be nice and patient but resolute in your intention and with no retreat without solution in your favor. If they decline your request to replace device for a new one then tell them that you'll report whole case to state institutions which have jurisdiction of such matters and do not forget to take your device with you except if they willing to give you a confirmation which is signed and stamped which confirms that you left them your LG G3. If you do that I believe that you will get a new device very soon with apology. Trust me and be firm in your intention! Good luck!

Z5P died randomly

So an unfortunate thing happened with me and for the first time in my life. I recently bought a Z5P in black around 10days ago. Pretty new right?
Everything was well except the battery timing which was disappointing, had no issues like blurry camera etc.
Until today that is.
Last night I last checked the phone at around 40% battery and activated stamina mode. Goodnight.
Next morning I woke up, reached for my phone and lo and behold! No response. Held the power button for far too long, nothing. Tried the VOL-UP/DOWN + PWR, zilch.
Plugged in the charger to check if that was the issue, nothing, no LED light no response, nothing except that the back of the phone was getting extremely hot like it could burn a hole in a paper easily.
Connected to PC and it showed QSHUSB_BULK, surprised and amazed at that. Googled it to find that it was related to bricking. Bricking....WHAT THE HELL? How the hell did it brick overnight with WiFi and mobile data and all other wireless services off? I own a Xperia Z2 and I never even unlocked its bootloader ever so ofcourse unlocking the bootloader or anything was out of the question! The device was in pure vanilla form!
Took it to service center from work and the engineer examined and examined and concluded that the issue maybe related to manufacturing. OK that relieved me a little. I informed the engineer strictly not to open up the device and to perform any diagnostics he had to just as is, because the phone is new and I'm completely against opening up a device that is only 10 days old. Told him to replace the device if he finds the issue.
The engineer informed me that they have a 7days replacement policy from the date of purchase but since the device is new in KSA as well, there maybe hope and a chance to replace it. He asked to keep the device with him for more diagnostics. I informed him and the customer service rep there strictly not to open up the device and they assured that they won't and will try to analyze their best.
The engineer informed me again that they will try their best to replace the device if the fault is not solved but in the worst case scenario where it won't be possible, they will call me and tell me to come and see the manager to sort out the issue.
So now, I'm out of service from a mobile that I was badly looking forward to own, I'm extremely and completely disappointed Sony. 7 days replacement policy whereas most of the others provide a maximum of 30days? Completely disappointed.
I'm using my iPhone 5s now as a back up, don't even feel like booting up Xperia Z2....
EDIT: So they replaced my phone even if it was outside 7 days replacement policy, only because they didn't have parts available to repair the phone and would've ordered the parts from Sony World Dubai.
Still I got a new boxpacked phone, works great so far, battery time seems much much better than the first one I had and fingerprint sensor is extremely responsive...
Did you root z5p?

This scares me, I hope they take care of you although it is out of the 7 day window! This phone was quite expensive, they should warranty the device if techs ruled it a malfunction!

THIS!!! Yea if this becomes viral, we're federally F'd!
This is what annoys me with Sony. Why don't they replace it without quickly without issue even in 6 month's let alone 10 days.

Yes they should've replaced it quickly but I guess they wanted to confirm no misuse was done or something but still...
Anyways i visited the Service Center yesterday and the engineer I talked to informed me that they will replace my set with a boxpacked one but they didn't contact me to tell me anything as they didn't have it in stock and that they have ordered the unit from their warehouse and hopefully will replace by Sunday.

I never had any issue with Sony before, as in 80% of my electronic devices are Sony manufactured and compared to all others they have been the most sturdiest and durable, shocked me beyond thought that this might happen.
I have a Z2 that I bought around launch as well and it is extremely durable and superb that it still rocks solid after all the water dunking and what not.

Bootloop, LG and Farewell

Well, it's happened on Monday. Was using my phone and bloop....screen goes off and that's the last time it worked. Gradually got to the stage where it wouldnt even loop but my 5x is dead. RIP.
So, being out of warranty and all I sent an email to LG to see how much it would cost to repair. Reply came back with a series of questions but no "reply to" address. That's one way of hiding from the problem I suppose. For a company to try and avoid their responsibilities for a screamingly obvious hardware flaw is way out of order. At least Samsung had the guts to put their hands up.
Sharing this as part of the grieveing process in a way for the old Nexus devices. Had a 4, a 7 and then a 5x. The Pixels came out but when I saw their price tags and the setups it just reeked of apple (excuse the bad swearing language). Very sad really for someone who rarely went a whole week without the simple process of changing rom or setup or kernel but that was the beauty of the Nexus ethos.
Since Monday evening I have been the owner of a Moto G5 Plus. Only charged it three times since getting it. Ads are part blocked in stock, it's nippy and am moving on with my life post nexus. Trouble is it's still on 7.0 but not a big issue for me.
Anyway, thanks guys and gals for the good times. LEarnt a lot about android, poor customer service and build quality from LG and made some good friends (and enemies) on here.
Keep happy
My 5X also died from last Sunday.... I sent my phone to authorized service (Procordia in Greece). I'm waiting now when the phone will be fixed (changing motherboard).
So I know you already moved on to the G5 plus, but you should see about getting it repaired. Then you could always keep on hand as a .spare device. Mine bootlooped (a second time) well out of warranty but I filled out the RMA request on LG's website (didn't talk to anyone, just like I did the first time) and they fixed it a second time for free. I don't recall how long they did it for, but they extended the warranty
edit: should point out I'm in the US and it might not go as well in other countries
My nexus died on me yesterday, still have 3 days left in warranty. Filed 2 reports to LG to request a repair and have had no email or anything, its as if my request has vanished. This is utterly ridicolous as I need a phone and I'm currently without one and can't afford anything worth buying. Will have to resort to using my Nokia 1600. Shame on LG for being like this
You should try contacting LG via phone and that might work better. The 5X warranty has been extended to 18 months on a case by case basis since this is a hardware problem. If they won't fix it, all you did was spend time on the call, but if you are eligible to have it fixed, you'd have a spare phone.
These bootloops are getting more and more common as our phone ages. Mine froze and shut down randomly and bricked while using it a few months back. Thankfully I bought mine here in the UK from Carphone Warehouse where I sent it for repairs, got the motherboard replaced, and fixed in one week, for free with the 2-year warranty. It sucks that LG aren't willing to help you guys though.
Mine died on me earlier this year. Luckily I had some backup phones. Using my old 2013 Nexus 5 currently. I can get life from my phone here and then but it freezes and shuts down during the boot animation. I bought mine from someone off craigslist so I doubt I'd have any luck getting it fixed by Google or LG. Too bad parts are hard to come by or I would try and buy a new motherboard and replace it myself. I really do miss using the 5X though. Just got to hold off until the end of the year for the next Pixel.
My Nexus 5X also bootlooped itself to death yesterday. I purchased it January 2016 when my Nexus 5 decided to kill itself. Unfortunately I also bought a 5X for my girlfriend at the same time which I'm expecting to go anytime now. I'm currently using my Samsung Galaxy S II that I bought at launch and is still alive 6 years later. Sucks because the only new phone that looks good to me right now is the LG G6, but I don't trust LG anymore so I don't know what to replace it with. Galaxy S 8 is purdy but I don't want to deal with burn in (like on my GS2). Essential also looks nice but doesn't have a headphone jack so that's out. Might have to go Sony with it's gigantic bezels. :-\
Update: Getting a refurbished replacement from Google. Hopefully by the time this one dies there will be some more appealing replacement options.
My second 5X died few days ago. Good phone bad quality
Mine died today. Warranty expired last October but they are sending me a refurb replacement. I've had it since November 2015 and even Bought it off swappa so I feel fortunate in one way but a phone should last a lot longer than that.

Who did you go through? Google or LG? I bought mine from someone off Craigslist but haven't tried asking for a replacement since I've never had any type of warranty. Did you have to show any kind of receipt of buying it or anything or did they just simply say "Ok" and send you a refurbished one? Also, did you call them or email them?

Well I just might do the same. If you bought it from a third party and it died yesterday and your already getting a refurbished one, I think I may have a shot. Good to know. Thanks
Well. Some progress here too.
Decided to give LG a go but as I bought it over ebay they wouldnt entertain any warranty work but gave me their out of warranty people called SBE here in the UK.
Contacted SBE and without any commitment on their behalf the fella said that they would look at it and if its not showing signs of damage and water etc then it should be covered as they have permission to replace faulty motherboards with only postage costs.
So am packing the phone off to them and see what happens. Anybody else experienced this route? Would be worth getting it fixed just to sell the damn thing afterwards.

Sure,
the verbage is a bit intimidating saying that they are putting full price for refurbished on hold on your account to see if it is covered by warranty but what they want to do is make sure you didn't run over it or drop it from a ten story building.

Yes, and then when they receive it and see it's not physically damaged (water, smashed screen) they refund you back the price of the phone. I didn't have to pay shipping either way.

It's kind of funny they would even hold onto the price of the phone seeing as the device isn't under warranty and it would be no loss to them. I mean, what would be the scenario where they would actually charge you the amount of the phone?

Worse Customer Support EVER!!

Ok so lets go back to the beginning. I ordered my one plus 8 pro on the prelaunch on the 22nd and i had issues with battery drain i thought was just me well i decided to root it once i received it and this was before really messing with it. After i rooted i realized my fingerprint scanner wasnt working and went through trouble shooting and One plus set up a remote flashing. Anyways they used MSM and tried to flash my device 4x and canceled it mid flash twice and it ended up in qualcom crash mode. I Was forced to set up an RMA over a week n half ago and they just received the phone on the 1st due to ups issues. It was inspected and my replacement was supposed to go out today and it didnt so i contacted oneplus and they had no idea what was going until i received an email a lil bit ago that they are out of stock and it can take up to 30 days for a replacement. They want me to take a refund or wait for a replacement but the problem is on the prelaunch i got the free wireless charger and bullets and they wont allow me to return them and want to deduct the price of both items. The have given me no other options. I am only making this post so that anyone who needs to RMA will now you may not get a replacement device because they are out of stock and dont keep replacements on hand.

Theres clearly stock issues all over. Atleast they have agreed to give you a refund or a replacement dont see they issue of why they are the worst customer support. They could turn around and not replace your phone as you caused the issue....
Honestly. Just wait.
Don't return anything, just let it come.
Call them daily and become a pain in their backsides.

Well guys today i was told that if i wait and something is wrong with the device i will be out of warranty to replace it again or refund so i can either get refund now or im screwed.
its ridiculous how they are trying to screw the customer over. I have bought every oneplus device since the 3 and i have called everyday and they told me today that if i dont return the headphones they will charge me for the free gifts so i have to return them if i wanted a refund and i asked if i received this new device and something was wrong would i be able to get a new device or have it replaced and they said no cause after May 31st i would receive a refurbished device and will not be able to get a refund for any purpose. I am honestly over it and thinking about switching to the pixel just because i have never had this issue when returning an item to them.

You might wanna call back I talk to the main support team and they said that all purchases have been extended to the 31st of this month and will not refund or replace any phones unless refurbished after that. The first time I called they said the same untill I talk to a guy who got ahold of the main support team and they verified that it doesn't reset just they will extend till the 31st.

That can't be true can it?
In fact I'm pretty sure with a phone that's less then a month old you still have two years warranty.. RMA or not.
The guy who told you otherwise is talking bubbles.
You have two years end of. It's your absolute right.
Don't return anything, let the phone come back to you and you'll retain your warranty. This is their fault and that is that.

You'd prolly need to find the relevant laws to begin with, or scour their ToS and warranty info. That's a bit of time itself.
Then, you'd need to present a case with them, and who says they're remotely competent. OP customer support has legitimately been worse than google as customer support. I honestly feel it's there to put a check mark on paper.
So lets say that with said proof, they still deny it. Ok, cool. Now what? I mean, if you're fortunate, you can take them to court over it. But this isn't a small business. Some companies will legitimately draw out court cases and more, simply for the fact you'll have to give up at some point, because we all don't have hundreds of thousands waiting in the bank, and the years to process the info. By the time you even did succeed anywhere, this phone would be 5 years old at least.
In all honesty, short of gross misconduct, oneplus can pretty much do whatever they want at this moment, and there's very little recourse if any for them to deal with it.
Corporate tyranny is real. This is my first OP device, and as much I like it (minus dislikes on some) the customer service is one of the worst I have ever experienced. So much so, this will be my last OP device as well.
Sorry if none of this reads coherently, half asleep.

Nah I get you. Tbh any company can act in this way. I've only had to contact OnePlus 2 times and they were good.
It's the situation I think that's causing problems. Personally I'd hold fire and let it come back. Just get one of them to say that it'll happen and you'll be fine.
Or not. Just get a refund and bite the bullet on the bullets, could probably get a Xiaomi or similar device for the remainder of the money
Ok just to update this a bit. I have no idea what's going on now now I agreed to a refund and now waiting for such. They have giving me different stories bout the returns and such but i was referring to the fact if you buy a one plus device you have 15 days to get a brand new replacement or refund and after the 15days it's refurbished and no chance of refund. At first I was told that the 15days restarts once u receive the replacement but now I'm being told that all devices are covered till may 31st.

Thanks bud I have most the chat logs in my email so that's one thing but OnePlus has a special response team that only the call reps can contact and without them contacting them they just repeat same thing.
So let me get this straight. You were having battery issues so instead of doing a factory reset or contacting customer support you took it upon yourself to root the device causing more issues? Now you're mad at OnePlus because you're getting some sort of a run around because OnePlus devices are sold out?
To be honest if it were me I wouldn't be so reluctant to hand out a free phone or a refund after you caused more issues than just battery drain. The initial problem could have been possibly fixed fairly easily had you have not tinkered with the phone. After you rooted the device they tried to flash it and it wouldn't work and you're saying it's somehow oneplus' fault? Yikes
Guess this should be a lesson learned. Don't Tinker with a device that has issues and expect 100% full compliance from the manufacturer. Just for an example I have a warranty on my vehicle and I was told if I do any self repairs my warranty is voided. You should just be happy they're offering you what they have since you have already said it was you that caused the problems outside of the battery drain.
Oh and let's not forget the fact that you want OnePlus to give you money for free items that you received when purchasing the phone. I mean for real they were free..
Update still no refund.

That sounds like they went above and beyond to keep you happy, once you rooted it, they could have told you no replacement or refund.
Also, you will not receive your replacement for at least a couple more months, the phone is out of stock and given the current global issues I don't see them shipping out replacements any time soon.
As a previous post said, let's hope you learned a lesson and contact support BEFORE rooting.

Actually You're wrong! It wasn't cause I rooted maybe if you read the whole thing you'd understand! They set me up with an appointment to flash the device with a flashing appointment and the guy started and stopped mid flash 3x then it got stuck in Qualcomm crash mode and he said to replace it! I have waited over a month for a refund also and the replacement as far as that I don't even want to deal with them anymore! They have no idea what goes on in this company and for over a thousand dollars you damn right I'm gonna be pissed.

So you're waiting for a refund or a replacement? Did you send everything back? If you send everything back and haven't gotten the refund, dispute it with your credit card company.
Sent from my IN2025 using Tapatalk
Request replacement they told me to change it to refund cause it would be two months for a replacement and still nothing. If you want proof message me I'll send you proof. I sent everything back I have screenshotted the chats and all.
