Terrible experience with LG - G3 General

Hi All,
I need to ask you all something and I used to go on this a while ago for my Galaxy phone but now I have a big problem with my new phone LG G3. Here goes:
Had my G3 for about 8 months, got it the day it came out for Verizon. Recently started noticing i was no longer able to long press icons, long press snapchats, and use the screen in various ways. Called LG since its under warranty they said send it in and theyll repair it.
Went and used their label and put into an box and sent it. One week later they received it and very quickly a package was sent out to me, even seemed like they didnt receive the package before the new one was sent. Well, by week 2 they sent back the WRONG PHONE. It was an optimus phone. Here's where it gets bad.
Calling their customer support and being on hold for very long periods of time, they said multiple times that I had in fact gotten the correct phone and me telling them no its not, they finally realized and said oh ok you received the wrong phone. They then told me even my other phone would be returned to me 'as is' because of 'Liquid Damage'. This is an all out lie, they sent me a blurry photo(attached) of the innards of a phone with 'corrosion' around the outside saying thats the water damage.
THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE. I took care of my phone like a baby, had a big case, not a scratch or blemish on it it has never been near or in the water ever. I tell them that they say well there's nothing we can do and they will be contacting me about instructions for sending back the wrong phone and how they're going to first find, then get my old broken phone back to me.
I could not believe the mess this has become. Going on 3 weeks now without a phone and even when I do get it back, which will be for weeks at this rate, itll still come back broken and with the lie that I had water damage.
Even funnier (more suspicious) the phone that they sent me also says 'Sent back unrepairable -- liquid damage'. So they did it to this guy, and me, and it all seems a bit too easy for them to just get phones and send them back saying its liquid damage and making it up so they dont repair them.
Going to be a month without a phone and even when I do get it back its still broken, what should I do? Guess just go to my insurance and get it replaced, which means I need to pay the deductable and who knows the hurdles going that route..great..
Anything you guys think I can do? This is a very disappointing and frustrating situation which Im sure Im not alone in.. Thanks

I would suggest you take this issue to social media. Tweet them and post your experience on reddit. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I tried for 2 weeks to send my G3 back due to ghosting i was seeing on the screen, after 7 different calls and chats to customer service about my shipping label that they INSISTED they had emailed me (which to this day i still have not received) i simply gave up. From the sounds of your story it sounds like it was maybe for the better i never sent it in!!! Love the product, but VERY unimpressed with customer service.

YES. I guess they lied to you and me my friend. I bit the bullet paid $99 through insurance and my new phone will be here today. Just end this nightmare! LOL
I posted this same story on a bunch of forums, I think I will take to social media also. They need to be called out on lies and terrible, awful, dirty tricks customer service!!
Great phone though thats why its so disappointing. Thanks for the replys guys!!

AFAIK you could let an authorized LG workshop analyse the problem and get it fixed and eventually sue LG for breaking the local and international guarantee laws. First things first: menace to do this. Then make the action (because you are sure you never put water or vapor on your phone, you're in right).

If I were you the first thing is to notify consumer association (here in Croatia we have consumer association which warns a various state institutions about consumer problems). Then I would go straight to the service workshop where you sent your device without notice of your arrival no matter how much far is that from your town and force them to open your device infront of you and to show damage which is caused by some liquid. Take the photo with you printed in color which you received from them as evidence and compare it with your device's mainboard. Of course try to be nice and patient but resolute in your intention and with no retreat without solution in your favor. If they decline your request to replace device for a new one then tell them that you'll report whole case to state institutions which have jurisdiction of such matters and do not forget to take your device with you except if they willing to give you a confirmation which is signed and stamped which confirms that you left them your LG G3. If you do that I believe that you will get a new device very soon with apology. Trust me and be firm in your intention! Good luck!

Having Evo Issues? Sprint will exchange!!

This may have been discussed before but I just wanted to inform you guys on my experience.
So I purchased my EVO 6/16 and I absolutely loved it!! At first glance it was everything I expected an more. I looked a little closer at the device and I noticed quite a bit of things
1) Screen was not properly seated
2) Battery life was somewhat suspect (even with NO task manager and NO syncing)
3) a bit jittery when swiping from one screen to another (compared to that of replacement and my Nexus One)
4) Random buttons seemed to have been activated when pressing the power button (mostly the camera button)
5) Screen responsiveness was a bit off
So the above issues were just a few I noticed from my OLD EVO. Now this may be somewhat of an "Placebo Effect" of getting a new Evo. The phone they gave me today feels a bit different. Both phones has the Build (003) I jotted down all of the numbers I could and nothing seems different as far as build is concerned, however we all know quality control in different batches can vary from time to time but not by much (or at least shouldn't)
REVIEW OF EVO I RECEIVED 6/22 FROM SPRINT:
I went to the Sprint store on Monday 6/21, to exchange my OLD Evo because I was a lil disappointed with the above issues they inspected the device and said you are right the screen is not seated correctly. Of course the screen responsiveness worked perfectly for the rep lol. The manager came out and said he'd put me on the waiting list and I'd receive a new one as soon as they came in. I got a call less then 24-hrs later stating they had some in. So of course I jumped for joy dropped my son off at daycare and went to the sprint store to grab another Evo. It took about an hr because of the amount of people up there. I handed over my old Evo and got a new Evo. I asked to hold both in my hand because I read somewhere were a sprint rep tried to act like he exchanged a phone and changed all the stickers inside to make it seem like it was a new phone. So after I looked carefully at the numbers I had written down I held both in my hand and compared the screens. Rubbing my fingers on both screens on the left hand corner and side. As to no ones surprise what do you think happened!! DUH, the damn screen was coming up and the manager says, "WHAT THE HELL". So of course I get the new Evo and I get a brand new charger and kept my old one for my troubles per Manager.
So while keeping the above issues in mind, the new devices is showing absolutely NO light leakage and when I say NONE I mean NONE! No left corner. NO leakage above the 4 soft buttons, no nothing! Phone seems very responsive to every touch where you barely have to tap the button and it'll activate. This may be caused by the screen being properly seated unlike the previous one I had. Battery is still suspect however that is something I am willing to live with because I know what the phone can do and what it takes to perform those task. If anyone has any additional questions please PM me or ask here.
I know this is pretty lengthy but I really need to start giving back to XDA because, indirectly, you guys have done so much for me.
There all different
I called the Sprint store where I bought my phone, just a moment ago, and told them about how my screen is also starting to come up, you can see light around the edges of the phone, as if the screen is comming up and letting light out. not only that but even when I turn the phone off, and its real dark, I can see light underneath the soft keys, NOTHING IS TURNED ON THERE SHOULD BE NO LIGHT ON WHEN THE PHONE IS OFF!!! ya, kinda had to get that through to someone. anyway he told me to call a "repair" center, (which hes an idiot for telling me this) and that theyd have to "Diagnose it" - Or, "Look at it all bug eyed and say, HMMM.. a couple times, or Yup..." and tell me I need to replace it. Or what also might suck, is I dropped it a few days ago, from like 2 feet, didn't throw it, slam it, it was just a light drop. So there are a few chips around the edges of the phone, wounder if theyll try to tell me thats why its happening, even though it was doing this 3 days after I bought it. June 5th, so anyways I ended up calling the repair store before truckin over there, and they told me "No, you take it back to where you bought it, You dont want it repaired you want it Exchanged!
Hmmm.... Interesting, I could have sworn I told the other dude that! I know nothing Great Sprint Masta! So anyway they told me theyd have a shipment in tomorrow, and that No, I cannot get on a list nor could they "order" me one. Wounder if theyll be there tomorrow.

Complete BS. I can tell you from experience that the Sprint employees at the stores know pretty much nothing about anything.
Call Sprint's hotline directly and explain your situation. They should be able to order one for you and have it shipped directly to your address. That's how I got my EVO in the first place. When every store was sold out and it was no longer available online, all I had to do was call in and they ordered it and sent it out next day.

Yeah that is certainly a step you can take. If the store is unable to assist thats just more fuel to take with you when you call Sprint and let them know how you were treated in the store. Bet you'll have a new Evo by Friday lol.

I did call the hotline, I dialed *2 and talked to a fella and he told me the same, just take it up to the one that I bought it at and have them exchange it. I guess they play favorites.
Ya, I called em again, they told me all I can do is have them hold one, IF they have any, I think I'm just talkin to the wrong people about this. thanks for the input.
I bought mine from Radio Shack.
Do I need to deal with them to try to exchange mine, or can/should I just take it to a Sprint store directly and see if they will exchange it there?
Also, I've heard/read that HTC has pulled all the EVO's and is "fixing" the assembly line and expects to have "fixed" units available soon.
Assuming this is true (yes, I know), do you think they will replace the "defective" units after the 30 days, based on the 1 yr mfr warranty?
Or do I need to push for a replacement before July 3?
?????
okay heres what im understanding so far, sprint will replace/exchange my evo if it has light leakage or/and glass separation? please correct me if im wrong, so when i go to my local sprint store i wont look like a fool

+1... Im in the same boat.
Sprint online order center told me that for the glass separation n light leaking I should get a replacement from sprint dot com (being the place I got my phone from) n that going to a local repair store would only mean I get a refurbished evo the rep said "if you paid for anew device n its defective you should naturally want a new replacement not a refurbished unit" so I agreed the phone is still out of stock at sprint dot com n as soon as it goes in stock I was told to call them n demand my new replacement. Further more the rep said even if I go past my 30 day limit n the device is still not in stock that I will not pl pay for anything because it was defective to begin with.
I went to a sprint repair center and the guy told me it is a normal thing for the phone to have a light leak and that the glass was normal. He said he has a Evo too and his is doing the same thing. I showed him how my glass is up and does not have an edge like the other side of the phone and he said that the phone is fine... WHAT THE HECK... no it isn't! It has lifted some since I bought it.
All 3 of ours are having the glass problem and mine has a half blown speaker. Sprint said to take it into a corp store so they could put a note on the account, so I did, but sprint.com is still out so I can't replace them.
Another week and a half and I'll be getting close to the 30 day mark. I hope I get some working ones by then!
I know it is not normal for the phone to be glowing in the dark...

Coming from having 2 faulty Heros and having to deal with CS, your best bet is to use *2. Lately Sprint's CS has been amazing after horrible reviews. Let them know your problem and they will take care of it. I have had 2 different options. Either have Sprint overnight me a replacement phone. Or have them note my account and I go to the local Sprint store to have it replaced. Both have worked flawlessly.

Once you go into the store and speak with a manager politely ask him when your 30 day satisfaction guarentee started. Its unfortunate that you have to mention it but I am sure once he see that you are still within your trial that will light some fire under his a$$. Not only will he think he'll lose a new client but a new client that bought an EVO. Should work...
i'm not sure if i want to wait for the software patch for the screen since some people aren't having the issue. It won't fix the screen lifting issue anyway. Mine is very slightly raised at the bottom barely noticable but i'm woried that it will get worse over time.
I also purchased mine at Radio Shack and am wondering if I need to exchange it there or go to a sprint store.

Bestbuy wrecked my phone, its constantly freezing and locking up!

So I just got my evo back from BB black tie for a screen replacement (took them 40 days!).
Anyway, before I sent it in everything was perfect - the screen was just cracked. I was completely stock 2.2, no root no nothing, 100% sprint stock. When I sent it in I had all my apps, data, etc on it and when I got it back it was wiped. Now I cant even get through 30 mins use before it locks up on me and I have to reboot. It will absolutely not work with a memory card, and every time I try to charge it the screen flickers and it locks up.
I have reset it like 20 times and I still cant get it to work worth a damn. At first it would work for a few hours, but it seems to be locking up more frequently. It seems to be getting more unstable by the day.
What the hell?? Is this a hardware problem or a software problem? I cant figure out if it is the port on my cell phone or something else but it seems to charge fine when its off.
I want to root it, but I dont want to brick my phone if it locks up or something! Its really random, sometimes it will work for 2 or 3 hours and sometimes it will lock up within 5 minutes of turning the phone on.
Best buy pretty much told me to wait 30+ days or **** off, and I absolutely refuse to use the htc hero they gave me as a loner. What should I do, try to revert back to 2.1, root, then flash another 2.2 rom and see if its OK? Or do I pretty much have to submit to bestbuy's absolutely ridiculous service and waiting period??
What would you do in my shoes?
um?
take it back and tell them that! I have dealt with best buy and they are always willing to work with people. Maybe its just in my area. but if they broke it they should fix it. thats the way things work.
have you attempted any sort of factory restore? I would start there first since your phone was completely stock as you say
Take it back to the damn store and be done with it. Over.

Hey I work at Best Buy in the mobile phones department and in my opinion you should take it back to the store and speak to the manager of the cell phones department. Get him to understand your situation because as a last resort we could make an exception and replace it with a brand new EVO. However that is up to the manager's call because they take a big hit. The policy is to send it out to service 3 times and after 3 times there is still problems we would replace it with a new product. Just go there and speak with them, Best Buy always aim to deliver good customer service even if it means losing out on couple hundreds of dollars.
Im having the same problem. I just got my phone back from best buy and my phone has been acting wierd ever since.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
easy fix FACTORY RESET !! start over
As someone else said, maybe its just my area(Arlington, TX) but if you go to the cell department and speak to the manager and explain what you told us, they should help, think of it like this, right now we have new hardware releasing almost every month, that means to them that you are ALWAYS a potential sale, especially if you have been a long time customer already, they don't want to lose that, they should help as long as you can remain calm!Good luck, worse comes to worse drive to Arlington, I know the guys at my store will take care of you
I have reset the phone several times with no success
And I'll go back today. I talked to the "head" geek and they didnt even look at my phone. They were just like, we'll send it out and hopefully it wont take 40 days like last time. I was about to flip a **** so I just left after they told me there was absolutely nothing they could do to speed up the process or give me a refurb'd unit.
Looks like im going to just have to send it in and wait. Im really regretting this **** black tie protection plan. ****ing best buy, they should put that on the warranty chart "Black Tie: 30 days, Sprint: 5 days" for replacement. I never even considered weather they would give me a refurbished unit of make me wait.
The dude that sold it to me just kept repeating "deductible deductible deductible"
not to be a devils advocate but you did break the screen and that means you had to do something to the phone. how are you so positive that whatever broke the screen didnt cause additional issues? Also no tech support is going to test a phone for hours on end to see if it freezes up. If it works when it turns on and runs a few minutes it is likly sent back.
Not trying to say that you shouldnt have recieved your phone back in working order just not sure you have a right to say that best buy wreaked your phone when obivously you had to do something to it to break the screen and it could easily have caused additional damage.
Anyway take it in talk to the Cell Phone dept manager. the geek squad cant make the call to give you a new phone all they can do is tell you what they are allowed to do for servicing it. Be respectful and explain the situation calmly and there is a good chance they will help you out. I agree 40 days is rediculous for having a phone get repaired! hope they can switch it out for you.
just take it to a Sprint S and R center, they will AE it, youll have a replacement within two business days. HUrry because S and R centers wont cover warranty come Nov 1st youll have to have ESRP or TEP after then.
at my best buy i would be able to return it for another evo.. it out of stock i would get the epic and pay the difference.. i got the black tie protection its 10 bucks a month
I never let BB or geek squad touch my stuff unless it's to replace it for a new one, you never know if they know what they are doing or if they are just some retard they hired 20min ago.

I know, I dont want to come off as rude but he barely glanced at he the whole time I was talking. He seemed more interested in fiddling with another phone he was working on I guess.
The phone was really fine when I sent it in, I was using it or about 3 weeks with a cracked screen and everything was perfect. The charging port was perfect before I sent it in, and now it causes the phone to freeze if I so much as look at it while its plugged in. There is obviously something wrong with the hardware and the crack in the screen was fairly small and not really a factor in the function of the device.
Im going back today and ill try to talk to the cell phone dept manager. There is only a regular sprint store in Boulder and I dont have a car to get around (bus system is great here), should I not even bother going there?
What should I say when I go to BB? I feel like last time they trapped me into 2 options (send it in and wait a month+ for service, or deal with it. What other options do they have?
Do they have the ability to issue me a refurb? Can I pay for faster service?
Those Best Buy plans are awful. I had one on my droid, and when the microphone stopped working, I took it in. They had it back in 2 weeks, but they changed the speaker. I made them test it in the store, and of course the microphone still didn't work. They said they will send it back out and "escalate it". Yeah right, 4 weeks later, it still wasn't back. The "manager" at the store said there was nothing they could do. I finally had to report them to my state attorney general's office to get my phone back. I wouldn't take one of these plans for free, and will never have anything to do with the incompetent geek squad again.
First of all, you spoke to the wrong person... Do not speak to Geek Squad, talk to the cellphone department manager...
This is why you just stay the hell out of a worst buy....
jus sayin...
Success!
Went back to bestbuy, they told me the same thing as before so I went to the sprint repair store (about 30 mins away).
They looked at, and told me it was a defective charging circuit, swapped out a new phone for me, and gave me $5 off my otterbox. I was in and out in 25 mins and I got to play with the Samsung Epic.
No questions, no receipt, and absolutely no hassle. It was almost unbelievable.
Only problem is my phone is now a revision 003 (used to be 002) and it has some light leak issues along the bottom under the buttons but I think I can deal with it.
**** Best Buy, last time ill ever not go through Sprint

I know it doesn't help and wont change your mind but in all fairness the geek squad itself doesn't actually do the repair it is shipped off to a 3rd party repair center. Only repairs done in store are actually touched by the geek squad and trust me they hate the 3rd party repair station as much as you do. When i ran a geek squad about 5 years ago we begged best buy and our district every month when we saw them to get rid of the repair centers or at least try to find ones that could handle the repairs instead of sending back things in the same or sometimes even worse condition then we sent it to them. Best buy has always done this for the repairs and warranties and it does give there geek squad some what of a bad name since you have to go through them to have it sent out.
Just thought i would point out that it isnt actually the geek squad that is doing your repairs and they normally have their hands tied on what they can actually do to help on anything but basic computer repairs. Whats funny is they used to (and may still) grade the geek squad on there turn around time in store (they always wanted 24 hour turn around time for in store repairs) but have never seemed to care about the ridiculous times for service center repairs.
glad Sprint helped you out OP.

I understand people make mistakes (they changed the speaker and not the microphone), but what made me mad, was they didn't want to do anything about it. I did talk to the manager of the cell phone department (I waited around until she came back from lunch), and she would do nothing. She even asked what I wanted her to do for me, and I wanted the phone replaced since the Droid was in stock and it was past 30 days. She said "I can't do that." I will still shop at Best Buy for little things, but never a phone or major purchase, and definitely not a warranty. Just read their customer service website forums on warranty issues, many people have problems getting prompt service.

HTC basically stole my Nexus One...I'm so glad the next Nexus is made by Samsung !

Hello everyone,
I want to share with you my worse-than-a-nightmare experience regarding the HTC support.
My current ticket number is 10USD420004057 in case someone from HTC actually bothers to read this.
I bought my Nexus One the day it was launched, making great efforts to ship it from the US to my country. Then it accumulated a lot of dust under screen and I have decided to let HTC take care of this problem under warranty. I have arranged a phone swap and they sent me a replacement phone. The replacement was basically in "ran by a truck" condition: scratches everywhere, the rear cover would not fit properly ! I have then decided to send the replacement back and send my own phone for repair.
After they finally repaired my phone (about one month later !) they sent it to a wrong address. It was lost. But this is not all ! My previously opened support tickets were changed from my name to another name and there was basically no evidence that I sent my phone to them ! Luckily I had the email notifications from those tickets and also the Google Checkout invoice and I sent them to HTC. Then they said they figured out the problem and they would send a replacement phone over to me. To get to this point, I called every 2-3 days for about a month !
Since then, I keep calling every 2-3 days and also sending emails to them after each call. Every time I call they say "there are no updates". This is happening for over a month !
So my phone is forever lost at HTC and they don't want to send me my phone or another phone back. From the 10 months since I had my Nexus One, it has spent 3 months at HTC before finally being lost.
So I have spent $530 + tax + shipping only to have HTC withold my phone forever.
Right now I am saving money for a Samsung Nexus S but I will still keep calling them every 2-3 days until maybe someone from HTC solves the problem.
This was my nighmare with HTC. My advice to you is DO NOT buy HTC phones ever ! If you ever have a problem with your phone, you're screwed.
PS: when I traveled to the US last year, a friend of mine entered an Apple store with his defective capacitive touchscreen on his first-generation iPhone. They gave him a new iPhone on the spot, in 10 minutes.
Sorry to hear about you're situation mate, sadly things like that can happen. Luckily i've had good experiences, sometimes mentioning legal action can motivate people to send equipment via special delivery
My work gave me a galaxy s which I am loving, shame its got no flash but im looking forward to the nexus s
Sent from my EVO using XDA App
I would contact my credit card issuer, personally.
oh man,this is phucked
that's a horrible situation, but it's believable. I've also heard about the replacement service with Apple. How awesome would that be?!?
On a different note, I'm going to laugh if they release a phone with 2.3 on it, before pushing an OTA to the Nexus One. hahaha
Happened to me, and possibly many other users. Their warehouse is so incompetent that it is not even surprising to hear something like this.
The way I got my phone back: talk to the floor supervisor immediately after the phone call is connected. Then threaten him/her that I'm writing to the newspaper/local stations.
After maybe a month or two, you should have someone contacting you. It took me 5 weeks of doing that, every day.
Contact your credit card company and initiate a chargeback for non delivery. Explain the details of the situation and be sure to explain the length of time its been, and the constant promises of rectification; and specificlly that they have never called you back to let you know whats happening.
If they agree the chargeback, then put a list of the events that have happened, and the people you've spoken to and email a copy with a complaint to the CEO of HTC, and whoever used to be responsible at google for the sale of nexus's just for good measure
comments like 'ill never buy a HTC again' arent that effective in complaint letters, use commnets like 'I appreciate in a large organisation errors can occur and are not always spotted, but i am astonished that once it was brought to your attention your company was incapable of dealing with the situation.'. You can also mention writing to the local press, and wether they would like to be quoted on a response.
Humiliation usually works
You never know your chargeback might go through and they might send u a nexus as a good will gesture.
OP- "After they finally repaired my phone (about one month later !) they sent it to a wrong address. It was lost"
That could easily have been the FedEx delivery man's fault instead of HTC. You need to get a FedEx tracking # from HTC and see the address on it to find out if HTC messed up writing the address or if the FedEx driver messed up delivering it.
I used to work at FedEx and knew of a courier that, eventually, got fired because he knew which boxes were iPhones, not deliver them, but say he did in the computer system, and sell them on craigslist.
does this apply for swap replacements? I went with the swap method, where they place a hold on my credit card. i really need the phone asap. What do you guys think, could they screw me up over? say they never received the package when i send it or what not? i would hate to have a wasted 530 on my credit card statement..
i just realized, if you do the swap method, what happens when they receive your phone they decide its not covered under warranty. do they ask for you to mail back their phone or do they say "eff u. u got a new phone, we're gonna keep your old one and charge you that 530 and tax"
i really hope its not the latter. if its out of the warranty, i rather them ask me to send the phone back and get my messed up one back.
im also getting a warranty swap. phones having some trouble reading a sim.
i've been googling and alot of people seem to have some issues with warranty replacement. some say the phones they receive are in worse condition than their old ones. that its has scratches all over the place. this def does not make me feel good. worse cause the cs lady assured me i wont be able to tell the difference between a new phone. lets hope thats true..
HTC Support was great for me!
I sent my nexus one in last thursday to have the power button repaired, they got it the next day and sent me an email that it was being repaired. This Tuesday I checked the repair site and it said it was repaired, I received it the same day, 5 DAYS, Awesome, I thought. Seems they replaced everything except the mother/logic board. My old screen let dust in between screens, had several dings in casing and digitizer was loose. It came back perfect in less than a week, hope you case turns out ok. I have only good things to say about them so far. And all this was at no cost on a phone i bought used.
I had horrible htc experience myself. They also lost my return phone, after 100 phone calls and few weeks later they found it. bunch of idiots over there.
did they apologize and try to make it up to you?
did you do a swap or a repair? i dont understand how a multimillion dollar corporation would be this disorganized..
Just another reason to avoid HTC for the time being. Sorry for your troubles. I hope they send you your N1 back or what you paid for it.
My phone kept rebooting every few seconds so I sent it in. They sent it back and it had the same problem. So I sent it in again. They sent it back a second time with the same problem. I called support again and they asked if I wanted to send it in again to see if they can fix it. I opted for a swap and got a different phone.
Im sorry ur having troubles at htc that does suck but ur glad the next nexus is made by samsung? Not tryin to be a **** but wtf are u smokin? That phone looks like a shiney turd an samsung phones are cheap pieces of ****. Im sorry but samsung doesnt deserve to use the nexus name that belongs to HTC who makes the best phones whether u like them or not.

This is what I am worried about. I opted to not have a swap sent to me on the off-chance that HTC pulls a "your bootloader is unlocked so we are keeping your 530 bucks" or a sneaky "this is not covered by warranty" trick.
If my phone comes back and still reboots randomly, I am going to call back, opt for a swap and assume that since the first time it was covered by warranty, it should be covered again for the exact same problem (hoping logic is not lost on HTC).
I wish they sent a shipping number when the phone was done. It has been sitting as "repaired" for a couple days now.
I called HTC and told them my phone was randomly rebooting. They sent me an email while on the call with a prepaid fedex label and gave me my ticket number. I mailed it out the next day using the printed prepaid label. I got an email next day that they received my phone. 3 days later I got an email saying the phone was repairs under warranty at no cost and was shipped back. 2 days later the phone was in my hands no issue. Took about 5 days or so but 2 of those were non business days. So I have to say, no arguments about HTC at all here
All is well here...got it today. Relocked bootloader too.

Sony X10 Customer Service nightmare

I wanted to share with people my worst customer service experience ever.
I recently bought an x10 off of someone online and the in-call speaker (ear piece) started acting inconsistent. It would get quiet frequently and was very hard to hear. And yes, I’m aware there is an issue with the level of sound these things produce.
Since I bought it off of someone I couldn’t return it through the service provider. I called Sony Ericsson (SE) and they told me that the repair should be covered under my warranty. So, they gave me an RMA number and an address of the service centre in Newmarket, Ontario to send it to. The place was Flextronics – Canada.
I was told that I would have the phone back within 10 business days, and that someone would contact me if there was any issues.
After 2 weeks, I called SE several times to get an update and received the rudest reps ever. They all gave me this attitude as if i was bothering them.. One rep said it was coming, while the other told me Flextronics had sent me an email with a quote.
A little upset, I asked why because I thought it was covered under warranty. She didn’t know, so gave me the number to Flextronics.
So, I started calling Flextronics to see what was up. Every time I dialled the extension for SE service department, it would ring twice, beep, and then hang up. So, I started calling other departments in the company and the they just transferred me right back, and I would get disconnected again. Then, I dialled 0 and got the operator, who was almost as rude as the SE reps, and told me to call SE for any updates. I told her I was sick of this back and forth, and can I please talk to someone. So she forwarded me to a supervisor. I left a message, and waited a few days and received no call or email back.
Frustrated, I called SE back and told them my situation. The rep this time was nice, and said he would make note and look into it for me and someone would contact me within 24 hrs.
I waited a two more days, and nothing.
I called Flextronics again, and went through the exact same process. And then nothing.
Called SE back again, this time they told me they can’t do anything until I reply to Flextronics’ quote they sent me. I told them I haven’t received anything from them and have been desperately trying to get a hold of someone there. This rep then said he will escalate it to a supervisor.
Again, a few days passed and nothing.
I called SE back and demanded to speak to a supervisor. The rep was being very rude and tried to avoid the situation. She finally caved and put me on hold for at least 5 minutes. I spoke to a supervisor who was just as rude as her reps and took another 5 min looking into my file, and asked me the same verifying questions again. She told me that the policy states the repair is not covered under warranty because of physical damage.
I told her that this was ridiculous bc the phone was in near mint condition. The only physical damage was that there was a tiny crack in the very bottom left corner of the screen that isn’t even close to the call speaker. And when I say the crack is small, I mean small. It was more like a deep scratch.
Anyway, after trying to defend that the crack had nothing to do with why I brought my phone in for repair, she told me it was up to the repair centre. I said, fine. At this point I just want my phone back. She said she will relay the message.
Waited some more, and then nothing.
I repeated this process for 2 more weeks.
The reps kept telling me that the situation would be taken care of and that the case was escalated. Some reps even told me that the escalations were never processed properly. Arrgghh...
After almost reaching the 5 week mark, I left a desperate message with Flextronics and SE practically begging for my phone back.
There is an obvious discrepancy between the communication between SE and Flextronics.
Finally, after 5 weeks someone actually called me from Flextronics!!!
He explained to me why I had to pay for the repairs. Even though he agreed with me, he said that due to the relationship with SE they can’t fix the speaker unless they fix everything! Including cosmetic stuff!
F’n ridiculous.
He asked if I wanted to try and call SE and dispute this with him. LOL. I was like no way, just give me my phone back.
He said they’ll ship it today and i will receive it tmrw. Let’s see what happens....
Because of this nightmare of the poor quality of the device itself, I will never ever buy another SE smartphone again!!!
i have to say thats a nightmare. i am so sorry that happened to u. i hope this doesnt happen to u again. thanks for the warning about se though. thats people i dont want to deal with. i hope u have better experiences with smartphones.

Here in Austria the SE-CCAs (sitting in Germany) are very nice and competent.
The only thing is, when you bring something in for repair, they always just flash the firmware first and send it back to you so you have to bring it in again, however the snd attempt always worked.
And CC in the US are by principle a nightmare and rude. In the best case they are nice but dont get what you want, because they just hang to their conversation script and dont listen.
On the other side I dont want to know what BS they have to listen to every day.
Quote Sony Erisson"Make it believe"...This's the way of SE treating their customer and provide the poor quality of the products, slow update of firmware and iresponsibility after-sales service. My X10 had been sent to the service centre for changing the motherboard which caused the reboot loop more than 1 month ago but i don't have any news whether it's getting the job done or not.My phone's still under the warranty and i think the warranty would be gone after i take back.Somemore, the xperia arc's coming out soon but i consider Samsung Galaxy S2 which's more powerful with dual core processor.I won't drop into the trap of Sony Erisson anymore...
Update: Failed to deliver once again. Phone has still not been returned as promised by Flextronics. Arrrgghhhh
That sucks for you OP, I would raise hell if I were you, you gotta treat them the same way they treat you to get **** done.

OP, if I was you, I'd punch those idiots in the face
So, the argument that says "only 10% of SE consumers, you guys, complain against SE 'cause lack of Android upgrades but the 90% of ppl don't care and love SE" dies here. Im pretty sure that 90% of people wouldn't 'love' SE thanks to things like this, no matter if they want Android 2.2/2.3 or not.
I repeat one-more-time: SE, NEEDS to WORK in the human part.
Oh.. I know all about Flexitronics/SE issue. My Phone stopped charging and I sent it into repairs. I too got the runaround and had to be calling in contantly to get any type of headway.
I was informed I would get callbacks, which I never got. Hell they even said I would get a gift for all my trouble - nothing.
My advice is to get someone from Flex and DON'T HANG UP. Refuse to disconnect the call until you talk to a supervisor. Be Polite and never swear - just tell them to put you on hold until a supervisor can speak to you. This will destroy the Rep's Call time stats and they shouldn't be able to just hang-up on you as you have not done anything to warrant such an action.
Good Luck!

You didn't mention it on your post, But did they tell you that they have a FLAT FEE OF $185 FOR PHYSICAL DAMAGE? yep, no matter how small that scretch is they'll probably shove that down your throat.
I had my run in with SE Service, luckily for me I had a tad better outcome.

Yeah, they are the worst.
Update: On Friday, March 11, a rep from Flextronics called me, same guy who I spoke to previously. He actually said "I recognized your voice so I don't need to speak to you."
Before he said goodbye I demanded to know where my phone was bc he promised I'd have it on Thur, March 10.
His reply was, oh well, if you don't receive it by Monday, call us back. WTF?
Any way, I finally got my phone back UNFIXED.
Long story short:
- Sony Ericsson and Flextronics' customer service sucks
- almost 7 weeks without my X10a, only to get it back UNFIXED

They quoted me $108 to fix the screen, so a lot cheaper than $185. But, I refused out of frustration and principle. I bet even if they had fixed the screen and speaker, I'd still have speaker problems.
Good job on your self-repair btw. I would be too nervous to take any tools to my phones. Bad experience in the past. lol
Looks like SE approved service centers are the same, no matter the country. I sent mine 2 times already because of issues related to the USB connector in the phone (not charging and not having stable USB connection via cable). Got it back 2 times fixed partially, now it charges but the connections still is worthless.
So my sympathy goes to you
Dont Buy a Sony Erisson! 35 weeks in repair only to be returned unfixed
I had the same issue Tase.
Im still very annoyed. Im reporting them to the better business bureau as their service is beyond a joke.
I got two X10s. One for my gf and one for me. Her USB port died after a few months so it went back for repair and they swapped it for a reconditioned model.
Mine died after about 9 months went back and got swapped for a reconditioned model which i wasn't really thrilled about. Weeks later my reconditioned model failed. The phone started just turning itself off and dropping calls until finally it wouldn't even come back on.
I work in my home office and my phone is either in my pocket or on my desk so nothing has ever happened to it plus i had it in the plastic protective bumper case as well.
I sent this phone back in April! I waited for a few weeks and kept getting the run around so in the end i said forget it and went and changed phone providers and got a Samsung Galaxy SG2. I didnt want to pay Rogers $50 to use some old piece of crap when i had paid for a Smart phone.
Anyway i still continued to contact them trying to get an idea when it was coming back. I got told the same as you. "Its been escalated" etc.
Another time the guy said he had no idea why it was taking so long and didnt have any idea where the phone was or what was happening. He promised me a call which i never received. I didnt experience any rudeness but every time i waited on hold for ages and was occasionally cut off whilst on hold.
I finally got the phone back this week unfixed! That's what? About 35 WEEKS?!!!!!!
Absolutely ridiculous! How does it take 35 weeks to do that?
Their excuse is that the USB port is broken and they have said this is physical damage and its not covered.
They must have baboons running the place!
I did not break it, the usb is just crap because they cheaped out and is a known problem with the phone. That wasnt the issue anyways. It wont turn on! I can put a fully charged battery in it and it still does not turn on!
The repair centre are a joke. I should have known better. We had two C510a's before this and when they both broke at exactly the same time (due to needing a system update!) and were both sent back mine was sent back unrepaired stating liquid damage when the thing has never been anywhere near liquid. I fixed it myself in 2mins using the proper update software not the pre bundled crap the phone comes with.
I don't know but they works fine in my country. Bring it and they will replace mainboard or even a phone for you such as can't charge... . However, I think the reason is the Flextronic. Also, you should check the phone before buy it from another guy. There must be something wrong so he sells it. And you have to check carefully.
They are pretty renowned for their poor customer service. Check the arc forum to see what I'm talking about
I had similar experiences with Samsung. It can take ages before you get your phone back. Besides, the people in the service centers have no idea what they are talking about.
Just an example. Here they quote that the Galaxy Nexus is a Google device and when you have questions you should contact.......MICROSOFT.......
Microsoft would be the owner of the OS and responsible for firmware updates

Ah ah ah, not so fast. I have gotten my x10 replaced free of charge not once, but twice for motherboard related problems in the US. I was under warranty and they respected that. After sending number one in for repair they told me that they would rather replace the device as opposed to reparing the damaged one. They sent me a brand new x10. This lasted about a month before it too began to experience random massive overheating, reboots and eventual failure to charge, boot or respond to any input whatsoever. Say what you want, but I have two x10s and a fully charged battery from the one that never had to be replaced didn't work in the damaged phone either. Anyway I called se up again. Of course I was still under warranty, so they replaced it again. This time I got a device that performs admirably, taking the highest overclocks I can throw at it with custom kernels.
This experience has not impressed me with the general build quality of the x10, but it showed me that at least some reps from se are interested in customer satisfaction.
Then again, maybe they outsourced to some of willy wonka's oompa loompa's!

Companies almost never hold up their side of the warranty sadly =(. I actually find apple to be one of the better places for customer service . Anyhow i usually just contact Better business bureau if they don't do what they say they'll do. They sort things out for you . One of my friends said just threatening to use BBB works too lol.

HTC One Pink Camera Tint - My experience

Hey everyone! just wanted to share my experience so far.
I got an HTC One m7 last year, and I love almost everything about it, except it began to develop the pink camera tint. For those who don't know, many m7's have a manufacturing/design defect that causes the camera to slowly degrade, and as a result, all low light pics come out with a pink or purple haze across the image.
I took my phone over to the bell store, where I signed a couple documents, and the rep sent the phone over to the repair center. The phone was in "Like-New" condition, and still in warranty.
I waited about a week, and today I got an email telling me that the repair facility was refusing to repair the phone citing physical damage (there was none, maybe a micro scratch!), and to get it back they would charge a $35 diagnostic fee. I don't even really care about the fee (although there shouldn't be one) I just want my phone fixed.
I called Bell and they escalated the issue and told me someone from the repair center would call me in 24-72 hours. They wouldn't give me a number to call, so now I have no choice but to play the waiting game...

Well u are not in USA. I had couple of devices with this deffect fixed under warranty even when warranty was expired. Call the consumer support number in your country and talk to them and tell them u have done your homework and this is a well known deffect and it should be taken care by them. Or wait maybe they will call.I never deal with carriers in this situation s call directly the manufacturer. Good luck.
Well, its been a while now, and it looks like I may have to send the phone to HTC since Bell are a bunch of ********. I eventually got a call, but it wasn't from the repair center, it was from USA's tech support, and the gentleman told me he had no idea what was going on, and that he couldn't help me at all, nor could he offer any type of recourse, or contact information for someone that may be able to help. I am very displeased as you can probably see. Anyway, I wrote HTC a letter complaining about their service. Here's what I wrote to them for your amusment:
Hello,
I recently sent my phone in to repair it's camera that wasn't working correctly. I was denied the repair, citing physical damage (I have documentation from the Bell store stating otherwise) and the device has now been marked down to be shipped back without the repair, when I did not give my consent, nor talk to anyone who had any bit of control over the repair process. I am very displeased at the service that has been given to me, as well I do not appreciate being lied to, or cheated out of the repair I am entitled to.(the phone's camera issue is a widely documented factory defect, just search Google or call HTC about the m7 pink camera issue). As well, I am appalled at how Bell has tried its hardest to evade my asking for help, instead pointing fingers at other divisions of the company and telling me to go talk to them. And finally, I would have liked to call the repair center, or visit the facility directly as I understand it is fairly close to me, but the information I have been seeking was kept secret from me. If you listen to the recording of the support call I made last week, you will hear the agent telling me that the company actively tries to withold this information.
I WANT MY PHONE REPAIRED. Not returned defective. If my phone is returned defective, you can be sure I will not renew my contract with Bell, ever.
Brandon Benyacar
I can only hope they read this letter sooner than later. Anyway, that's my repair experience so far. Lesson learned: Don't by a phone right away, let a few months go by and see if any major problems turn up. also, note to self: Buy extended warranty.
I may post one more time if anything else worth sharing happens. Have a good day everyone!
I'll also post my experience with the purple tint problem. Got my phone in may/june 2013 and got the purple tint somewhere around september 2013. Over time, it got worse in dark settings, but as the phone was still ok during daylight, never bothered too much. This year I finally took the effort to get it fixed. I contacted HTC europe (as I live in the Netherlands) about the problem and they said to just make an appointment; if I had caused the problem, I had to pay 35 euros research costs and if I agreed, an additional fee for the repairs.
As I rooted the phone like a month after I got it (unlocked through HTC dev website), I was kinda 'scared' they would say that would be the cause, but I followed all wonderful steps here to get it S-OFF and in locked/untampered state again and send it off. Made the appointment (UPS came to pick it up) and after a few days I got the email it was ready and repaired. Today (after about 10 days) they delivered the phone back. No charge at all.
So my experience with HTC customer support is fairly positive at the moment. Purple tint is indeed gone. Sadly, my original phone was just fixed and not swapped for an M8, but still no complaints about their service.

Glad to hear everything worked out for you. I contacted HTC a few days back and explained what happened and they said they would be happy to repair my phone at no cost, and agreed with me about Bell's repair process being all sleazy. I just need to wait until my phone gets shipped back from Bell's repair center first.
I think I read somewhere that sometimes HTC will put in a higher quality camera module. do you notice the picture being better than the original? (before the purple tint started)
I really don't want my phone to be swapped for an m8, I like the m7 better. slightly smaller, capacitive buttons, and a more symmetrical speaker grille. Not to mention its super easy to s-off. though I might not mind if they give me an M9! HAHA
well, its been about a month, and after much trouble, I finally got my phone fixed. See, When I got my phone back from Bell, HTC told me to ship my phone to a company called Futuretel, located about 15 minutes from where I live. I shipped it, and a few days later, received an email claiming that the repair would not be covered under warranty, and would cost me $226. they also have a policy that requires them to replace both the camera, and the motherboard at the same time, hence the price.
Their first claim was that my H-Boot date on the bootloader screen tells them that my phone had been tampered with. I did install custom firmware, but I flashed it back to stock, with the date showing January 29 2014, before I even bought the phone(not that they would know that) so I called them out on their claim. Then, they disregarded that claim, and now stated that since was that since my phone was S-Off, I was not entitled to a repair. Everything else on the phone was stock, bootloader locked, tampered flag removed and status showing locked.
talking directly to Futuretel was futile, so I called HTC and explained how refusing a defective hardware warranty because of S-Off is like ford refusing to replace your faulty transmission because you changed your headlights. The two are completely unrelated (unless your mechanic REALLY sucks I supposed). They agreed, but still wouldn't fix my phone.
My father, who isn't really a lawyer, but knows quite a lot for an average guy, wrote up a legal document for me to sue HTC. This isn't his first lawsuit, so he knew exactly how to write it up properly and file it into small claims court. I sent a copy over to HTC, and the next day, they offered to pay for the repair. It probably just wasn't worth it for them to fight it, so they gave in.
I also let HTC know of all the horrible reviews and complaints of this repair facility, with many of the stories online ending in either ridiculous repair costs, refusal of repairs for stupid reasons, or devices being returned with additional damage. HTC said they would do an investigation on this facility. that being said, Futurtel repaired my phone in 2 days time, and returned it in the same condition it left (actually, slightly better condition, my power button was losing its black paint, and they replaced it. small, but good attention to detail).
I powered up the phone to 5.0.2, and firmware version 7.17.666.7 which I believe is the newest version (a google search produced no results). They also replaced my mainboard, so everything was stock, and I had a new IMEI. tested out the camera, and its a night and day difference. Now my pics look the way they were meant to look. Once again, I am a happy customer.
I hope my experience inspires others to fight back, know your rights, and don't take no for an answer. I would love to hear other people's success and failure stories, especially ones pertaining to this pink camera issue.
Now onto installing insertcoin's sense 5.5 ROM. I just like it better than sense 6!
My related experience recently, I acquired almost new imported HTC One from local dealer, and there was Pink Tint, I took it to HTC Service Center in my locality, I had already did OTA updates and the phone is in Lollipop, the support person said, it will take 5500 INR (88 USD) which I agreed, then they said it is imported phone, the camera module might not be compatible they don't have software to calibrate the camera since the phone is in Lollipop (?!), and it is the risk they are not willing to take! they don't even try to repair and say it did not work. Their excuse was once they attempt to install new camera, and it doesn't work the Camera will be completely shut off even day light photos will not be possible. Looks like I had to live with purpley photos!

Don't worry, you can always use flash to avoid pinkish photos in the night. I didn't even bother to get mine repaired for free.

the flash helps(thank god its even there), but still, video in low light is practically unusable.
It's not acceptable that HTC can get get away with this(though I found it had more to do with the repair facilities), and you should fight it if you've got the time, especially now that they have introduced that "oops protection" this for the M9. If they can replace an M9 at no charge for dropping your phone onto concrete, then they should at least be able to fix their own factory defect. Even if its out-of-warranty. Its what I believe is fair.
by the way, after they fix, not only are the pictures not pink, but they're less grainy now, and they're not washed out.
I too had this problem since last 1.5 years.. somewhere read online that you can get rid of it by placing your cellphone in freezer for sometime and it will get rid of the pink/purple issue of camera. So I did it.
WHat to do-
1.) I placed my cellphone HTC One(M7) in my freezer nicely wrapped in a small towel
2.) changed my refrigerator setting to the coolest...
3.) kept it in there for almost 20 minutes
4.) Took it out.... and no more Pinkish pics.......
Not sure if its permanent solution as I have tried it today only.... but as of now I am happy to see my camera work as good as new.... NO FAULTS WHATSOEVER.
It worked for me.. hopefully it can work for someone else as well.. please try at your own risk and make sure to cover your cellphone properly before trying this option.

Do you really think our phones are designed to withstand below zero temperatures? This is a terrible idea which is most likely only a temporary fix (if your phone survives it).
While not a true "fix" I just edit the effected pictures and add an effect to them. 2 of the effects work well to remove the purple haze in pictures (depending on the picture each effect works better than the other). Not perfect, I understand, but they come out looking quite good.
