About all of those confirmation boxes... - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Is there any way to turn them off? I'm talking about the boxes that pop up whenever anything is changed. For example, every time I turn on or off autosync, that confirmation box appears and I have to press it again to complete the action. Is there any way to change this? I really don't need to see the same message every single time I go to do this.

Sorry I wish I had a solution but unfortunately Samsung does things in strange ways sometimes. You sound like you have the US snapdragon version so there is really no hope. The international exynos version has a good chance with developers being able to fix Samsung's mistakes.

Have any app can screen off?

I want to replace power button (standby / screen off) .
It can't or don't have any app , isn't it???
I'm sorry, but could you clarify what you're asking?
He wants an application that can be used to turn the screen off/put the phone to sleep. To "replace" the power button.

Carlos Graves from phonedog was showing off cyanogen a month or so ago and he had some sorta program that could power down your phone and such. I might be wrong though. If your phone is rooted, I could look it up for you.

Sure, i'd be glad to help. It will take me a little bit to find it though. I might be mistaken though but i'll report back whatever I can find.
Thanks, man.
I hope you find what you thought you saw, but I really doubt it was such an app, though. We have this other thread going on ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653209 ), and nobody seems to have heard of such a function currently available.
Shame though, as it turns out that alot of people is having major problems with their power buttons.
Well I found what I was looking for but it wasn't what I thought it was. I'm extremely sorry.
The program I thought turned off the phone is called "quick boot" but that just helps your phone boot into recovery and such. It can also reboot your phone which is a plus. It can be seen here

at 40 seconds into the video. Sorry about that.
No problem, that's what I thought. (See my last post.)
And the search continues...

Dev support, killed by Knox or not?

Having got a Note 3 on release day (first time i've got a phone on release) - just wondering how long it usually takes for a new Samsung phone to get devs ROM support? a month or two maybe?
Or has Knox really messed it up for us?

If you mean the Developer options, they are there. They are just hidden.
Click on your Settings, then General, then About device, then scroll down to Build Number and click on it about 8 times. The Developer options will now be available.
You can now password full desktop backups, make the screen stay awake when plugged in, protect the sd card, enable USB debugging, allow mock locations, select app(s) to be debugged, verify apps via USB, show touches & pointer locations, show screen updates, etc etc etc..

Its cool, you're answer was interesting all the same
Who knows, time will tell. The phone has been out less than a month in most parts of the world so a lot of developers and chefs probably don't even have them yet.

Let me tell you about another device; the Asus Transformer TF700.
It has a locked boatloader, which you can only unlock using the Asus Unlock Tool. Doing so registers your device serial as Unlocked on the Asus servers, and voids your warranty (and disables OTA.).
It still has plenty of active developer support, regardless of the warranty void. People just either got a different warranty with a company like Squaretrade, or accepted it.
So don't worry overly much. Knox seems scary because it's new, but once the 1 year factory warranty runs out, it doesn't matter if anything trips the counter.
Besides, they don't refuse to repair your device if it breaks; you simply have to pay for it.

Call bar always green Note 3

Ok, so I just bought the note 3 as an upgrade from my note 2. I set up the phone and came to make a call when I soon realized that the bar on top is ALWAYS green. It should be black until someone answers then it turns green and when the person hangs up it turns red. It's a small bug but it's rather frustrating. And also, before the set up was call, video call, message. On the note 3 its video call, call, message which is a bit confusing. Please help. I'm new to this whole thing. Thanks in advance
Not with me any such issues. Never experience even

If you like my post hit thanks .
I read a few other forums with the same issue so I figured it might be a setting option. Thanks for the quick reply. I called the store I got the phone from and they said they can't help...

This happened to me when I first got my note. It went away after I disabled T-Mobile lookout mobile security. It may have just been a coincidence though.

Thanks for the reply. I tried that and sadly the problem still occurs. I called Samsung and they said it was a problem with the update that will be fixed soon. I asked all my friends and they said the problem occurred after the update. This is what happens when you live in a non civilised country...

I blame Samsung and their stupid Touchwiz UI. I got 4.4 on November 25th on my Nexus and 4.4.2 a week later. Yet here we are on near $800 phones and we don't even have 4.4 yet. Bunch of baloney. Might be getting a Nexus 6 instead of a Note 4 if they keep this up.

I agree, simplest thing they could do is give us a non buggy phone after spending that kind of money. Well, hopefully the new update will fix this issue. Does anyones screen keep flickering on and off? The lights keep dimming on its own. Checked all the options and everything is off. Seems like the new update is needed today before tomorrow

I thankfully don't have this problem. Chrome always opens to a totally black page when I click it from the dock, then as soon as I go to scroll, the page will appear. Nothing going on with the actual screen brightness though.

When the phone is changing brightness that's because of the hardware. If your phone is really working hard on something it will dim the display to get extra power for the hardware. Don't have brightness on max if you would like to avoid this. It's a supersmart solution by Samsung.

OK, so i have a few important questions for the experts on here, that i haven't seen.

first, are there any differences between the "f" variant, and the "s" variant? everything i've read has them exactly alike. then, my number one pet peive with my new s7e so far is that when i restart it, it won't allow me to unlock it with my fingerprint, and wants a password instead. i really hate this, and have not seen anything from anyone about it, or how to fix it.
Actually, this has been answered numerous times. Can't get rid of it. Just like Apple iPhone in that respect.

Unfortunately it's one of the newer security features just like the double lock feature after using an app to turn off the screen. There's no way around this but it's definitely more secure if someone were trying to access your phone. A small nuscience for higher security. If you disabled screen lock I think it goes away.

yeah, i get why they are doing it, but i don't get why they put it in and don't allow the USER/OWNER to make a decision to keep it or not. android is open source, and as such nothing should be locked down like this. but in this, there is something i still am missing. why is it any more secure to have to put a password in, than your fingerprint after restarting? actually, it would seem to me, that anytime you have to type a password, you stand a chance of someone else seeing it, or keylogging it. but a fingerprint is only yours, and no one else has it. so what am i missing about this being more secure? and btw, thanks for the response.
The fingerprint sensor works great for me. Although I did have to recalibrate it once again since I didn't do it properly the first time. Also the difference between the F and the S variant is the region they are meant to be sold on. The F is generally for Europe while the S is for Korea.
Is it that much of an inconvenience? How many times a day do you restart your phone?

yeah, i get the region thing. what i was asking for, was to see about using the same custom roms and kernels. everything i have read says that they have the exact same hardware in them. so i am wondering if they can use the same custom roms and kernels?

I want the notifcation LED to blink when screen is on!

Hello, new S7 Edge owner who came from a Priv (and a long line of BB's before that)
I've searched high and low the last 2 days for answer but can't find an easy one.
Is it possible to have the notification LED work while the screen is on?
I've come across another thread here on XD that suggests I can use Tasker to do it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/led-notification-aod-off-t3367365
Before I invest my time (and possibly money) into Tasker, is there a simpler way of doing this?
That's silly

Why is that silly? As a Bold user you should know and appreciate how useful it is to have the LED come on even when you are using the phone.
This actually annoys me so much that I might root my phone over this.
My knowledge of hardware/software is pretty low, so don't laugh when I ask this.
Is this a TouchWiz/Samsung driver thing or do you think that it's actually baked into the hardware/firmware of the S7 so that even if I root it, it still won't do what I want it to?

Rooting in itself will not activate the led to come on while the screen is on. I am almost certain that this is baked in and that the led permission cannot be changed.
