I was in Canada but am now living in Australia. I have tons of messages that were sent/received in the format 416-555-1234. Now that I'm abroad I need to put +1416-555-1234.
That's fine and I've updated all my numbers in my address book. The problem is this doesn't change my text message threads. I need to manually enter the +1 every time I want to sent a text. It's driving me crazy. I could delete the thread and I'm pretty sure that will resolve it, but I don't want to lose all my old messages. Is there any way I can remedy this?
Thanks..

So, this morning, i tried to send out a text message to more than one person asking for email addresses. After waiting over and hour and only getting one response, i sent an individual message to someone that didn't respond. Well, they said they never got anything. So i did some playing around with sending test texts, and it turns out that anyone listed after the first person is not receiving any messages. This worked before and for some odd reason just stopped working?
Any direction someone can point me in? i'm not using a custom messaging program.
Worse come to worse and i need to set the phone back to factory defaults, how do i do that?
nevermind, got tired of not being able to send out multiple texts so i set it to factory defaults.
found an xml contacts backup so i didn't lose any contacts. . just around 500 text messages.
It's just that the custom roms don't put the semicolon between the contacts when you send to multiple people for some reason, just manually put it there. I'm not sure as the the limit of people you can send a single text to. Anyone know?
i use an app called group sms and sent it to a text to about 25 people at once.
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this so move the topic if necessary.
A few weeks back I bought an X1(Branded Dutch T-Mobile Version) and I've been having problems with the receiving of SMS'. My Today screen indicates there are new messages, eg. SMS \ MMS: 1 unread. But when I check my messages there's nothing there. I tried to see if it may be a false positive, by having a friend send me a text message, but the number did increase, and the message box was still empty. I tried reseting the rom, which obviously killed the messages, but new messages are still not getting through.
Anybody else experiencing the same problem? Anybody know what is going on? How can I recover the (invisible) messags?
Thanks a bunch
that's weird. uh, really weird. it's either YOU have a bad rom/phone software so better have it checked OR your not looking in your SMS/MMS inbox but your outlook inbox instead.

i had the same prob, someone sent me a text and the phone froze, when i turned it on had that message. the only way i found to get rid of it was to delete the message coversation with the person.
i had the same problem, only a hard reset solves the problem. after the hardreset everythink worked fine. some other people at the german xperia board got the same problem.
I tried to hard-reset to no avail. Deleting previous conversations doesn't help. Even SMS' from unknown contacts stay hidden. When I try to export my messages using PIM Backup 2.8 It shows that I have 2 'Text Messages' folders in the export root. One with the hidden(unread) messages. And one with the visible ones. When I exported the messages and reimported them, they stayed hidden. When I wrote a program to parse the PIM Backup exported file. I could see that the hidden messages get properly exported.
Any ideas?
Hearing that the German based roms have troubles too, could it be a reg setting that is wrong, something with localization? I really hate that I have a Dutch rom.
i had this problem i simply hard reset it and it was gone...if this didnt work then try reflashing the orignal rom
I just ran into the same issue.
Funny is that I did hard reset on not flashed orginall Dutch T-mobile X1 which was working good. Well now it is not :/
Tip for others looking for a quick workaround: use uiggmo light panell to read them. The only way I found so far.
I am flashing mine today. (Before I will hand it over due to case issue).
Hello,
I seem to be having an issue with the time stamps on my text messages. The ones that I send are okay, however the ones that I receive all have different times on them. For example:
If I send a text at 8:15PM and receive a reply right away, it'll show my text sent at 8:15PM, but the reply will have a back dated time... Maybe 5PM, 4PM... something like that.
Any ideas why?
Thanks!
I find this but its by no means universal. some messages I recive are an hour ahead others are not. I recived two messages at almost the same time & one of them had the wrong time. I can't wait for the new update to fix all of these little issues
I've seen this problem since my G1. It's still suffering from it, as is my Magic and my Hero.
I'm still having the same issue.
My received text messages show a time of 4 hours behind.
So if I send a text at 6:30 and receive a reply at 6:32, it shows 2:32 as the received time.
Does anyone know if there's a fix for this? I have updated to the latest (leaked) firmware, but still no luck.
Thanks!
Are you all on the same network? Might not be the phone because i've never noticed this

Was just going to ask this... What network are you on, have you set network location to automatic by carrier, if so, set it manually to the city / country you are in.
I'm on O2 and have been using the network provided values.
I've set it to manual and text someone at 12:44. The reply came in a little while after and was stamped 12:45 so no issue there it seems. Strange.
I'm now getting issues now with texts in fairly quick succession.
The time stamps can be the same i.e. 21:17 but a reply from someone will sometimes appear before my original text in thread view.
Also a reply came in to one of my texts with a time stamp before my original text. This was displayed "correctly" as before my text, but the fact its timestamped in this way can't be right.
Anyone else seen this?
It's like the phone is looking at minutes for accuracy, not seconds. Also taking the timestamp of when a text was sent from the other person's phone as the time received to my phone. Hm :/
I get this on Orange when I receive a message from the US. All my outgoing messages are listed at the bottom of the conversation, while the one received from the US are at the top.
UK based conversations are all threaded correctly.
Ok thanks.
It never used to be like this so I'm wondering after prolonged use the sms database gets a bit corrupted somehow?
For me it seems to behave like this: for outgoing (sent) messages I see the time that is set on Hero. For incoming messages, however, Hero shows the time on the network provider.
I assume there is some header in SMS message containing the time, and Hero uses that instead of using the time Hero has when the message arrives.
I started using the Network Provider time (automatic) to get rid of this.
I have had my EVO for about 2 weeks (came from a Blackberry) and noticed something odd in the address book contacts.
For every phone number within the contacts, it gives you the option to send a message. It gives you this option even if it is not a mobile number. Can this be fixed? Is there another way to store contacts within Android - because several times I've pressed the wrong number to send a message to without realizing it and then get a message of course saying they never received the message (because it was sent to their landline or fax).
Thanks in advance for your help in this matter -
Sincerely,
Kevin

This is not a glitch. Sprint offers text to landline. Edit: NVM it does not cost extra

Solution, dump the default messaging app get handcent and turn on the handcent option that only shows mobile numbers. Now when you want to type a new message make sure you go into handcent find the person there and it wont' show anything but their mobile.
many thanks...
...but was hoping that rather than a purely SMS app that there was a replacement address book app. Is there such a thing? Something with all the functionality of the default address book?
I have a gmail account - is there a google option for this? Please forgive noob question as I'm very new to android and am trying to figure this all out.
Many thanks bud.

No the address book will let you send text messages to any number. You either need to be more careful when choosing a number there to text, or instead go to your text message app and initiate new messaged through there.
Firstly, I'd like to apologise if this has been touched up on before, I did a search but couldn't find much.
Secondly, I've been reading the forums for a while and thought I'd register as to seek help for my little problem...

To put it simply, I have all my contacts stored in my Gmail account. After installing Wildpuzzle, I decided to clean up my contact list to make my phone a bit more organised.
The problem, is that when I receive a text message (SMS) from anyone, it does not show up as their name in my Messages app. It simply shows the full number (inc. international dialing code) with no picture and no name.
For example, let's say I save 'Bob' in my Contacts list as: "07123456789". When I receive a text it does not show 'Bob's name, only "+447123456789".
Now, if I was to edit 'Bob's contact card so it was stored as "+447123456789" then it does show his name.
Has anyone else come across this before? I don't really want to have to go through all the phone numbers in my Contacts and put +44 in front and remove the 0.
Thanks in advance.
Its a known bug, has been posted in the wildpuzzle-thread many times. But if you have all your numbers on gmail-account its pretty easy to put "+44" before the numbers on each contacts, it took me about 10 minutes, only having like 90 contacts, but anyway, not that hard to fix with a little time =)
Yeah, I had a feeling that this was the case due to the lack-of-response from people.
Anyway, got bored at work so I changed them all now. Bit of a pain in the arse, but you have to make these sacrifices for such great software
