At some point yesterday, my bluetooth decided it was no longer going to pair or connect with devices. If I select a paired device that is on, I get a "Connected" messages and then a second later "Disconnected". After this happens the device no longer shows up as paired.
If I go in an try to pair a device it goes through the loop above. I have rebooted the phone several times which does not correct the problem. Everything else on the phone is working. Also, the battery drains fast and a major contributor is bluetooth.
Any ideas? May be time for a new phone :crying:
Maybe a wipe can fix it. Try with another device first.

Yeah, thinking about doing this as a last resort. Thinking maybe the driver got corrupt or something else software related.
Maybe is the regist data, if the driver is corrupt you need to flash the ROM again. But only the modem file.

Have you tried a Network Settings Reset? It corrects about 90% of all connectivity issues in this device...
Where is the network settings reset?
Found it. Did the network reset, but still the same problem.
I still have not done a factory wipe, which I will do this weekend. But if it does turn out to be hardware, is the BT module part of the motherboard, or can it be replaced? I am searching replacement parts and watched the tear-down on iFixIt, but there does not seem to be a separate module for bluetooth.
All,
Here is an update, and not sure if this is pointing to a problem with the ROM or hardware but...
I did a factory reset via recovery and bluetooth functionality seemed to behave properly. I then did a recovery from google which put the bluetooth back into the same state as it was before the reset and the reason I created this thread.
Next, I did a network settings reset. After doing this I was able to add a bluetooth device. When I tried to add a second, it got flaky and was acting like bluetooth was turned off. I rebooted the phone and both bluetooth devices were paired and were able to connect. I then added a 3rd device, and it was back to the way it was when I opened the thread.
What I have noticed, is I can do a network reset and I can always add one device reliably. Adding a second device is hit and miss and a 3rd will always render the bluetooth useless.
After the 3rd device is added, even if I turn the bluetooth, it shows it trying to connect to each bluetooth device except for the last one. It is almost like a linked list is corrupt, or a stack is damaged.
My next approach will be to either wait for 7.x to OTA and see if that fixes it. Or I might bite the bullet and root it with a custom ROM.
Any thoughts?

Thanks dzidexx. I think it has more to do with the number of devices, since if I do a factor wipe and start adding devices it gets into the same state.
You understand there is a know issue with Bluetooth in the latest Marshmallow build for this device, right? It's an issue in the kernel driver and BT radio firmware.

Thanks for that... I did not know it. But it probably explains why my wife's MXPE seems to continually lose it's BT pairings. Now if we could figure out the random reboots...
(P.S. she's completely stock and unrooted)

Random reboots are a totally different thing, very unusual on a stock MXPE... it is usually an app issue or bad hardware.
Try booting it into safe mode for a day and see if that helps, if it does, it's an app issue, if not then a factory reset is in order and do not install ANY apps and test. if it still reboots then it's defective hardware.
I might be able to convince her to try safety mode for a day or two. But she's adamant about not doing an FDR.
She's too darn stubborn for her own good sometimes.

I keep having to reconnect my previously paired bluetooth devices, and I believe this started after upgrading to Marshmallow. Initially, my devices seemed to unpair infrequently, like maybe every 10-14 days. But now, for whatever reason, it is happening more frequently and sometimes daily.
After reading through the forums here and at AC, I thought it might be happening because I rename the devices after I pair them, but that didn't solve the problem when I stopped that.
After Marshmallow, Android Pay required a screen lock to use, which I never had done in the past, so I also enabled Smart Lock and set my paired bluetooth devices as trusted devices. I just disabled all of that (screen lock, android pay and smart lock) so I maybe that will solve the problem, but I suspect it won't.
Anybody have any ideas?
Hi,
I have the exact same issue!
VEry annoying!
Clearing, hard reseting, repairing etc... tried EVERYTHING!
Now i also set smart lock and trusted devices.. Will go to a meeting and back, will test it on the way.

Well, that didn't work for me. I also tried clearing the cache from the boot menu, but it's still dropping my paired BT devices.
My new Square Up Contactless + Chip credit card reader arrived yesterday. Unlike their previous credit card readers that connect through the earphone jack, this one connects through BT. I cannot get it to connect to my XPE, but am able to connect it to my Moto X 2nd Gen.
I really hope this is a Marshmallow issue that will be fixed soon, but the lack of responses has me concerned that it won't.
I tried resetting the network settings and wiping the cache, neither of which fixed it. I decided it was time to do a full factory reset, but that didn't fix it either. Any other ideas?
I going to assume you are unrooted... But either way if you can change your SELinux to permissive that might help your Bluetooth issue there is this app here that might help out

Got the new phone from Motorola a couple of days ago. After reinstalling all my apps and customizations, including renaming my device and the 4 Bluetooth device I connect to, I started to experience the same problem. Not initially, but soon after I turned on the new System UI Tweak option.
So, I turned off the feature and it hasn't happened since. It has been a few days and I have restart (soft reset) several times, which I found would usually trigger the loss of pairing, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it was related to the UI tweaker.
Hi there, I had my phone for about 5 or 6 months where it was fine till recently.
The problem was that I am unable to turn the wifi on. in the main settings the slider is greyed out and a text is on screen saying turning on WIFI but it does not. it does not even show the list of networks. it quick settings it shows as searching but nothing is listed.
in the about phone settings it shows the mac address to be 02:00:00:00:00:00.
This occurred a few days ago but no new software was installed the most recent being a week before to the April security update.
I have tried multiple things such as turning on the airplane mode then off, switching phone on or off, safe mode, factory reset, wiping the cache, taking the sim out.
There has been instances where I am able to connect to a wifi network but it does not last long (few mins) except when taking the sim out which lasted about half a day. (tried again but did not work)
My phone is not rooted and has the stock rom.
There has been some research on this matter where people have done something with the presist(I think that is what it is call) folder but there was no result on it so I have not tried it due to wanted to keep the phone unrooted due to warranty concerns.
I would love some solutions in figuring out this problem.
Thank you for your time.

This problem is exactly what happened to me also, since two days ago. I was searching for a solution and found this thread. Can anyone here who had this problem share how they fixed the issue? is it really a hardware problem?
Thanks!
Hello,
I got a nexus 6p several weeks ago and the wifi was fine until it took several google updates and then it went to the birds. I've tried going back to 7.1.1 in the hopes of fixing the issue. The random reboots have stopped happening pretty much. So not sure where to go from here.....I have a RMA with Huawei, but still waiting on shipping label. We all know how long this will take.........
Any help is highly appreciated
The random reboots are a bad sign. Usually that means the phone is on its way towards the boot loop of death. If you went back to 7.1.1 flashing everything individually like in the XDA guide then I would try again using the flash-all.bat command instead. It's extremely easy for something to go wrong if you flash everything individually. Google made flashing with the flash-all.bat command pretty much idiot proof which is why I think that method is almost always preferable to what XDA suggests. If you actually did flash with the flash-all.bat command and the bad WiFi issue persists you probably have a hardware issue with your phone. You can also go under settings / Google / Networking and see if there is a WiFi Assistant toggle. If there is set it to the opposite of what it's currently set at and see if that makes any difference.
Well since reinstalling 7.1.2 using Nexus Root Toolkit the phone has only restarted once. Now the wifi is solid when bluetooth is off. But as soon as I turn bluetooth on the phone goes crazy.
I had tried many different ways, such as:1. Wipe cache. 2. Clear Bluetooth cache. 3. Reset Network. 4. Factory Reset. None of them work out. And I almost need the Bluetooth all the time for my headphone, smartwatch, speaker.
I am having the same issue with my S7 Edge from AT&T.... It was working just fine my bluetooth watch was synced to it up till all the sudden bluetooth refuses to turn on at all... I'm miffed as to why.. I"ve tried all the cache wiping factory resetting also.. no dice... I am super mad its broken...
Let me know if anything comes of this.
I was thinking maybe it was caused because I installed root access on it, but it was working fine for quite a while after rooting so I doubt thats the case.

I bought a used S7 Edge with AT&T that has a bluetooth issue and I believe the OTA update was installed before I ended up with the phone. Can I back up to the previous update to see if that will fix the problem? Bluetooth will not turn on, slider moves, but doesn't lite up, and reverts back to off as soon as I leave that screen. I think that reverting to previous update might restore Bluetooth function.
So all of a sudden my fingerprint scanner stopped working after a recent software update. Now I don't know if it was merely a coincidence or it had something to do with it. I tried a lot of solutions like battery removal for 30 minutes, Resetting the device etc but nothing worked.
I finally performed a hard reset through recovery and it worked fine until I paired my phone with my car's BT. Then I added the car BT as a trusted device and THEN my fingerprint scanner bombed again. And now no matter what I do, it won't come back on and I am simply tired of doing a hard reset.
This is the only thing about this phone that is frustrating me a lot. Any solutions? Thanks!
I don't have a solution, but wow, that sucks! I never had an issue with mine in the 10-11 months I owned the V20.

Which variant is it ? model #
Sounds like you need to do a warranty exchange or change the fingerprint part yourself.
It is the Sprint version!
Fingerprint sensor
I'm having the same problem, right after an update. I tried resetting and factory reset. No luck, the setting has disappeared. I bought a new sensor and still no luck. If someone finds a fix please let me know. I think it is definitely a software issue.

If it's a software issue then try this-
Settings- Apps- Show system apps-fingerprintasm-storage- clear data- Restart

Having the same issue.
This is what happened to me:
– flashing the Oreo modem ? get fingerprint working but no network signal
– flashing the modem I dumped from Nougat ? network signal OK but no fingerprint
I thought there were ARB for modems...
