[PROBLEM] Secure Folder keep turning up - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Whenever my location is on, and I go to put it off, everytime Secure Folder screen comes up and asks for authentication.
Before authentication I get a popup saying
"No Location access
Device location for all apps is turned off, and you may not be able to locate your device if it's lost."
I don't know why it is happening all of a sudden, I don't even remember any changed settings.
Can someone please help

Search for 'Device Administrators' (or just 'administrators') in settings, and turn off 'Secure Folder'. This is a built in feature of the rom, wherein secure folder is added as a device administrator by default and it will ask for location every time.

This did not resolve my issue. Secure Folder was not a device administrator.

Problem solved!

I did what linom suggested and it turns out Lookout was the issue! I have T-Mobile and it comes pre-installed on new devices as far as I've seen but I'm not sure if other mobile carriers do the same. They had updated Lookout recently and it looks like there was a "better missing device functionality" that may have been added or changed or something. It was the only one that was checked off as a device admin and I turned it off. Problem was immediately solved. Weird that it was triggering the secure folder to open but this definitely fixed the issue.

Did you add any app in the secure folder that requires location access? Check the permissions for each app. Also, try uninstalling and reinstalling it again as a last resort. Maybe its a bug. I am not able to replicate the issue. Can you share a screen grab?

I hadn't added any apps but I did notice some Samsung apps in secure folder required location permission so I revoked. Let's see if that fixes it

Nope still was happening. I uninstalled secure folder

Phone lock on hd2

Hello!
I have a problem with my hd 2.
Somehow I activated the phone lock, i'm not sure how it happened, as I know where the setting is and I don't recall activating it.
The problem is that I can't figure out how to deactivate it again (the check box "Prompt if phone unused for" is grayed out, can't uncheck it)
I can change the settings, like, how much time before it locks up or what password I want to use, but no disable.
I really don't want this phone lock to be activated so if anyone could tell me what to do to deactivate it i'd be most grateful!
Tried to search the forums for it but couldn't find anything.
Thanks!
try clearing the password fields, and changing the time to 0 minutes, and then see if it'll let you untick the box.
You can disable auto lock with BsB Tweaks. That's probably the easiest method.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=589305
MidnightDraven: thanks, I tried that but it won't let me clear the password field, just keeps saying that it's not allowed to keep it blank, even if I set the time to 0.....
johncmolyneux: I'll give it a go
Thanks both of you for replying

I tried out this application, and disabled the "auto lock" function, but I still get prompted when I reboot my phone, that I have to type in the phone lock code ?
Seems to have worked other than that....any other ideas as to how I can get rid of it completely ?
I don't know what to say mate. I just set mine to lock and require a pin, but it let me untick the "prompt if unused" checkbox and blanked out the password for me when I did it. It's now back to the way it was.
Have you installed any software recently?

Weird...
Well i'm using topix ROM which I got from these forums, and only other thing I have installed is the cab that makes the battery shown in %.
Could it be the topix ROM perhaps?

It's possible. Try raising the issue in the thread you got the ROM from. I'm sure someone else would have seen the issue if it is caused by that ROM.
Figured it out

Figured out why it got activated!
When I setup the exchange connection for my workplace must be some sort of security policy, that forces you to activate the phone lock if you want to sync the emails, can't find away around it, but at least the mystery is solved
Thanks again for your help!

Makes sense, and worth noting for future!
Glad to help mate
Hi,
I Have the same issue with exchange.
But there is no other option to disable it? some reg modification?
Hi all,
I've just got my HD2 and it's the first Windows Mobile device I've synced with my exchange server. Had the same thing and it really bugged me but I found a work around. If you're an Exchange admin (or you're in good with those who are), Google search for Exchange-2003-Mobile-Messaging-Part2-Uncovering-Device-Security-Policies - use the first link. You can disable the requirement for a password globally, or you can specify an individual user to exclude from the password policy. I've just added my username in as an exclusion and it works like a treat!
Good luck

Google account error when i change the sim

hi guys,
i have an error when i change the sim card (i have two of them): the phone forget the google account password.
a notification appear when i turn on the phone, also if i don't have any data connection active.
any suggestion?
Same happens to me. It's probably a feature; different sim often means different person, so maybe it's a privacy feature.
However, I also found this happening when I spend a long time in places with no coverage like basements. The phone says that the sim is changed when is not and I have to enter the password again.
This happens every time when switching SIMs. I have a dual SIM and it's happening too when switching between the 2 numbers on it. I think it's happening also when switching back and forth from airplane mode. This is by construction on all ROMs I've tested and is working like this when GSM radio is turned off and back on
Later edit: I've tested now, when switching to airplane mode is not doing so. Only when switching SIMs/numbers

you know if there is a way to remove this protection or to let him remember the password?
None as far as I know. As callmewind stated, could be a security feature coded in the google.android subsystem.

Same problem on HD2...
the same problem on tattoo with android 1.6.
you can disable it with autostarts:
at "account changed" you have to disable "google service framework"
hi, thanks for info.
i am not sure what you mean. i DL Autostart app but there you have to manually write what to do... so no go.
after i tried Autorun Manager app, found "google service framework", but no option to disable it when "account changed".
any hints what to do?
you need this one ;-)

Unfortunately, CloudAgent has stopped

Since the first day I got my Galaxy S4 i9505 I am repeatedly getting a pop up message saying "Unfortunately, CloudAgent has stopped.", as shown in the screenshot attached to this message.
Right before the message the smartphone freezes completely for a few seconds. It happens very frequently, several times a day.
How can I fix this problem? And what is that CloudAgent for?
Cloud agent is for Dropbox syncing

I had same issue. .. but only after updating Dropbox.. I am rooted so I deleted it and reinstalled from play. .. now it works like a charm

I disabled the service from the application manager and I haven't got the error anymore.
After I disabled it it disappeared from the list of all apps in the application manager. I wouldn't know how to enable it back if I wanted to.
Dropbox is still working fine, syncing automatically and everything else.
Root Cause
The SQLite statement doesn't like the apostrophe in my wifi name when receiving an MMS (multimedia text message)
Fix
Samsung Engineer: needs to 'escape' the APN so that punctuation is handled in SQLite. (It's actually a beginner-level mistake by the Samsung developer that implemented the code)
Phone owner: update your wifi's name to remove punctuation, like an apostrophe.

Fear not, when you disable an app it's automatically relocated to the bottom of the list, where you can re-enable it.

sign in error?

Anyone get the same issue that the phone connected to a working network (LTE or WiFi) but open YouTube still showing "please check your network connection" . Also showing "sign in error" in a Google page. How can I fix that? I try factory reset the phone but it seems not working. Thank you.

Samsung galaxy help/ unknown app

[QRCODE]I've had my phone for a while but sometime this month whenever I get a call I get an additional blue pop up saying unknown number and after the call ends a blue screen comes on. The name says Free caller ID. I checked the Privacy policy and the email underneath is [email protected]. When I googled it, it gave me DU caller but I have never installed a Caller id and I can't find DU caller or Free caller ID anywhere on my phone but this is keeps coming up whenever I get a call.
Is there any way to get rid of this? Please help

I just checked and I see a "Caller ID and spam protection" but it is off
I am having this exact same problem and I found the exact same detail when I did my Google searching.
This only recently started and I have no idea how or why. And if I search for this app or for a setting nothing comes up. When the window pops up you can turn off the settings and I've done it about 10 times and it always turns them back on.
This is annoying the hell out of me but I want it turned off but I simply cannot find any way to access it other than when it pops up

Does your carrier offer any kind of spam protection? I am with T-Mobile and they do have Caller ID service with Spam block. Another carrier Verizon, also offers something similar.

There is a window that pops up with this app and on it is the settings icon and a privacy policy link. if you click that link you can do some detective work to determine it's this company.

On unlocked devices there is a setting, but someone already reported that it is not turned on, still it would be good idea give a carrier a call and find out. I have used T-Mobile app to access my account and there was a section on my plan where I could select paid service or use the free one(they are different) and it mentioned caller id and spam block. It is possibly that it was enabled not on your phone, but on your carriers side and it could very well be a free service. I think Play Store has an app called "Hiya - Caller ID & Block" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.webascender.callerid That is what unlocked S8 is using when users enabled it in phone app.

I am not on an unlocked device so it is definitely not that. And it's also somewhat new is not always happened. And yes it is a free service because within the app popup when you check the settings it eludes to this.
I have done pretty extensive searches on my phone within settings & certain logical apps and there is no way to get access to whatever this is if it is an app or a setting. The only access to any settings related to this app or when it pops up but like I said you can shut the whole app off and it just turns itself back on and undoes your settings. Whatever this is you can't get to it directly.

I understand, but what I was trying to say for example on unlocked devices there is a toggle for that kind of service which lets user know about spam and caller ID, but on carrier devices this feature is removed because carriers have their own service that they like to charge user for. My device for example doesn't show anything like I saw in the screenshots. You can open settings and type "notification access" in the search and it will show you the list of apps that have access. See if you can find it there and take appropriate action.

Hey, someone from another thread found a solution. I cleared my Chrome history, cookies, and all synced data and I haven't had the issue anymore. I didn't format my phone tho
Edit: nvm, it came back so gonna format my phone and see if it finally disappears
Edit: AFter formatting, it's been a day, I restored my apps and data but it hasn't appeared anymore

Hi am having the exact same problem and haven't found a solution yet. Its driving me crazy!
I am using a Samsung S8 and this app/feature literally appeared out of no where.
Any help or leads would greatly be appreciated!
I've been having the same exact issues that started a few weeks ago. I'm using a Samsung galaxy s6 edge from T-Mobile. I'm going to go into the store tomorrow to see if they can offer any solutions. This app is incredibly annoying! Especially since it wasn't authorized to start sending notifications!
I've messaged the email address they gave on the privacy policy asking how to discontinue the services. I got an email back with what I assume is Chinese characters in the body of the email and photos showing what to do. Worked for about a day and then came right back. I'll update if T-Mobile has any useful tips.

So I didn't get to go to the T-Mobile store but coincidentally I was uninstalling apps that I don't use a few days after I made that post. I ended up uninstalling 2 apps, one of which was viva video and I think this might have been the root of the problem. Last time I clicked on that app, it looked completely different and I wouldn't have recognized it as viva video if the name wasn't there. I also noticed that the app will open and run by itself but will not show up in my open apps list (hopefully that makes sense). Even when I had not used it for days, it would still show up in my battery optimization list as an app that needs to be closed. Must be a bug with the new face life. Haven't had any issues since then. I really hope this helps.
