Need help with my battery S4 I9500 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My battery drains too fast, using my phone continually it can discharge in about 3 hours. I have installed FirstFlight N7 Themed V6 ROM and I feel the battery discharges faster than in the stock rom did. I installed Ampere app to measure how much current my phone was charging and discharging and when the charger is not plugged in it discharges at 460mA, is that normal? I bought a Samsung 2A charger and it charges at 600mA or maximum 700mA but I changed the usb cable of the charger and it charges at 860mA or maximum 900mA. I don't understand because it should charge at 1900mA but it doesn't, how does I reach that? I need to mentioned that I charge the pone directly in a wall, not in a usb port, and why does my battery drain too fast? I need help :crying:

Charging current is dynamic. You can't make it always 1900mA as it highly depends on current device status, USB cable used when charging, etc. Also, ported ROMs tend to drain more battery compared to stock one and it's normal and not an issue for those who enjoyed ported ROM.

That is good info. Too many people are clueless about how to treat Li-Ion batteries.
One glitch I found:
"10.• Car "fast-chargers" overtime degrade your battery a little, as they give too much energy to the battery too fast (high voltage)."
And he goes on to talk about voltage and even shows a voltage/life chart.
The charge voltage is set by the phone. A PC USB port is 5 volts, a car charger is 5 volts, and a wall charger is 5 volts. The phone then has a converter in it to convert the charge voltage down to the maximum charge voltage. How that is done, is up to the type of phone you have. In fact, on the Fascinate, I have tested it at 4.5 up to 5.5 volts, and the battery charge voltage and current remains the same.
I DO know that the Fascinate detects PC USB ports, and uses a higher charge CURRENT on a wall or car charger, then it does on a PC USB port, but the VOLTAGE maximum is the same.
Basically, he is confusing charge current and charge voltage there.
Very helpfull info. Thanks!

Using different charger

Hey guys, can I use a htc charger to charge the s2, I understand the output is different between s2 charger and htc charger, will it pose a problem to the battery?
no problem.
Some info:
A charger does not push a certain current either, the phone uses as much as it wants as long as it is same or less than the current rating on the charger.
And if the charger provides less than the phone wants, then the phone adapts to this as well.
Oki, if let's say the htc charger out is 1.0mah, and the samsung charger is 0.7mah, is it still alright to use the htc charger?

Yes you can just look under your battery once removed on your serial label
Erm.. what to look for?
I only see 3.7V and 1650mAh.
That's all.

No problem.
I'm charging my phone with the following chargers: 1.2A Nokia charger, 1A Nokia charger, 0.7A Samsung charger, 0.55A noname car charger, and some USB cables providing 0.5A.
And I also understand the electrical theory regarding this so this is ok both in practice and theory

The higher the A rating, the faster the battery will charge, but this also will heat the battery more, reducing it's lifespan. Slower charges are annoying, but preferred for battery longevity.
Can I check what A rating is iphone charger? I'm planning to plug in microUsb to charge my s2 at work and leave the stock charger at home.
So want to check again, if 1A charger is suitable for S2?
Just to add on. When I'm charging my S2 using stock charger and playing grand prix story, the percentage of the battery actually decreased. Is it due to the 0.7A supplied by the stock charger?

The phone only allows 650mA? or so into the battery, so anything above that is usually wasted. If you're playing graphically intensive or CPU intensive games most likely the charge rate can't match the drain rate, so slower charging or draining in your case.
S2 only allows 650mA? So even if I have a 1A charger, it won't be able to charge up fast too?

No it won't charge it faster.

I use my gfs HTC charger, mines fine
You can use any charger but, from what I've heard, if the output is higher than what is recommended for your phone, the battery life will be reduced.

This is not quite true.
The voltage of mini USB type chargers should always be 5volts. The current rating (amps) varies depending on the charger. Using a charger to charge a device to with a current rating lower than the current rating of the charger will make no difference. However using a charger to charge a device that requires a higher charging current could result it the device taking a longer time to charge and may not fully charge at all.
So most chargers will be fine to charge your phone. However if the charger current rating (amperes) is too low, you may find that if your using your phone while charging you could find the the battery will charge very slowly or even discharge (more likely when using something like navigation app). Both circumstances will make no difference to the health of the battery.

Nexus 4 (non-rooted) battery calibration doubt !

Guys... I have a nexus 4 which is not rooted yet, running on stock android OS, android lollipop 5.0.1.
I know the manual procedure to calibrate a battery (charge till 100% in one go - discharge without charging in between or connecting phone to any device by USB till phone turns off - again charge from 0%-100% in one go). I do it with the stock charger provided with my phone.
But now I have a doubt.. What if I use a turbo charger to calibrate the battery !
Will the battery be calibrated efficiently as the charging is a bit fast with turbo charger.
And also.. What if I calibrate using a power bank, I have 2 power banks.. One charges phone fast like a turbo charger.. Other one is a bit slow.. Like the stock charger...
Will there be any difference between the battery calibration done with stock charger, phone connected to PC using USB, using turbo charger, a slow charging power bank and a fast charging power bank ? Does charging speed affect battery calibration ?
P.S. - While charging phone using both the power banks, it shows charging on AC.
Please someone clear my doubt.
Thanks

Help about charging

Hi. I have recently bought grand 2 and noticed battery getting hotter while charging. Which is not the case when i charge my phone with usb cable through pc. So i wanted to know whether it is good to charge through usb cable and pc or not?
I know this method takes time tho. Also does charging through this method makes the battery drain faster or not?
Is it because no one is available or no one is intrested..to give me an opinion...?
No difference between charging your phone by charger or USB cable using PC
but it is matter of time to full charge, max amps will takes by USB is about 370 mA
while charger gives you about 880 mA so charger is faster 2.5 time
And discharging doesn't depend on the charging method but it depends on the usage of your phone
Like playing games or not,WIFI on all time or not, and such so....
Finally it is better to charge your phone by original charger
Hopefully my opinion come in handy for you.
Thanks ?

n910c charges only at 1a on a 2a charger

so i lost my fast charger which i didn't didn't use anyway as i kept fast charging unchecked in phone settings
now i got a new romoss charger which is a good charger AFAIK. it is rated at 2.1a, plugged it in and it took too long to charge. i downloaded an app called Ampere to measure the current and the maximum it gets is about 1000mA.
i thought the new charger was ****ty so i tried my friend's LG charger 1.8a and got the same results. tried another 2.1a samsung charger and nothing exceeds 1a.
is it something wrong with my phone or is it software related?
i'm using eRobot's newest rom with spaceX kernel (also tried googymax and suemax kernels). tried to check the fast charge option and again, same results.
any opinions or thoughts are much appeeciated
thanx
You need a Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 compatible charger in order utilize adaptive fast charging on your Note 4([email protected] & [email protected] output). Buy new Note4,Nexus 6,Motorola X Style charger. Also make sure your USB cable is undamaged/good quality, since not all cables actually support fast charging.
i dont need to use it as a fast charger, i just want it to charge with 5v 2a which the chareger is capable of
