I factory reset my moto g4 play (XT1607 Amazon Variant ) and when I go through the setup, I connect to the wifi, it stays on checking connection FOREVER. Does it have something to do with the fact that I'm in china? The button to skip is grayed out. Will send pictures if needed.
It sounds like a DHCP problem. Did you try connecting with a static LAN IP?

When I first got my XOOM, I was able to log in with my Google info during setup and all my stuff popped up on my XOOM, including network info for my house.
I just rooted, so everything got wiped. I skipped the activation process while I was rooting, and now I can't seem to find where to go to sync everything back up from the settings on my Droid.
It's really frustrating because I can't get my home network to connect. I'm stuck on "Obtaining IP Address."
Did you remember to reattach your primary google account that is on your Droid back to your Xoom? Go to the Accounts page and add the account. It should sync everything back.
Did that. It didn't work like it did when I got my XOOM fresh in the mail.
I'm trying to figure out how to force sync my Droid so I can try it again. The Extended Control widget for force syncing doesn't seem to do anything.
So, it appears to be something with my WiFi. Not sure if it's on the XOOM or my home network. I wasn't having any issues connecting here at home the past few days, and it just started after I rooted. It's just hanging at "Obtaining IP Address."
I can connect to a neighbor's router (that is unsecured) just fine.
Any thoughts?

The extended control widget just turns syncing on and off. Go into your settings to the Account page, then toggle syncing off, then back on, or there should be a "Sync Now" button you can hit. Let it sync up then reboot and do the same on the Xoom.

If its your router, just go into your WiFi settings on your Xoom and click on the network then hit "forget network" then attempt to manually connect again, enter the password and it should connect.
That didn't work. I even power cycled my router and nothing has changed.
I don't understand why it could work one minute, then not work the next. I hope it doesn't have something to do with the fact that I'm rooted.
I think it's the router. I just had my Droid 'forget' the network and tried to re-establish a connection. Same error.
Guess I'll have to wait for my roommate to get home so I can get the login password from him and mess with the settings.

Yeah its definitely the router.
Hey guys, I am facing a weird problem after updating an OTA released yesterday by HTC (2.2.1). My gmail app and market app is not working when on wifi. It works perfectly on Mobile data connection though (EDGE). I get a no connection error in gmail and network error in market app.
I have done the following but to no avail.
1. Soft reset and boot into safe mode.
2. Uninstalled task killer app.
3. Deleted all data for these apps and updated the gmail app and setup the account again.
I have not tried the hard reset as yet. Can anyone help me out please? TIA
Thats not good at all. Is your handset branded?
Hey Andy,
Thanks for replying although your reply does make me nervous :s. I am from India and we only get unbranded sets here. So to answer your question it is a unlocked unbranded phone running stock firmware.
By the way after I posted the question I did get these two apps working once for sometime but since then it's the same problem. I am starting to wonder whether it has to do something with the wifi although all the remaining apps are working fine and dandy.
Is the wifi access point owned by you? You could try turning it off and on again, that may help.
Have tried that. It is my home network that I am connecting to using a linksys wireless router.
UPDATE - I connected my phone using internet pass through i.e. sharing the internet through PC via the data cable and I still get the same error which leads me to believe some setting on the router provided by my ISP is causing this. Although what I fail to understand is that it was working fine till yesterday and nothing have been changed in the router setup recently.
Hmm... that's odd. Did your ISP supply your router? My ISP pushed a firmware update to my router about 8 months ago that broke pretty much everything wireless.
Is it just Gmail & Market that don't work over wifi? Does your browser and other apps work?
Yes indeed, my ISP provides a router which is then connected to my wireless router. The strange thing is everything else is pretty much working including gtalk.
If your router supports DMZ and you know how to set it up, you could try putting your DHD's IP into the DMZ to eliminate the possibility of your routers inbuilt firewall blocking Market & GMail.
Maybe a DNS problem? Ensure you have good ones... You can always test Google ones 8.8.8.8 and/or 8.8.4.4
Thanks for showing interest guys. I for some strange reason cannot access my router settings page. I will figure that out but the stranger things are happening with my apps. After a bit of tinkering I have found a behavior which stumps me.
These are the steps I follow:
1. Sign out from gtalk.
2. Go to manage applications and clear cache and data for gmail, market, download manager, Google backup transport, google partner setup and google services framework.
3. Restart phone.
After this my gmail app starts working on wifi but talk does not start anymore and market also throws an error before even accepting the terms. I uncheck and check the background data services and I am back to square one i.e. gmail stops syncing saying no connection, gtalk works as usual and market starts giving connection error (after accepting terms).
I seriously think now there's a serious flaw in the software and not something to do with my router settings.
Sorry for the long post. Thanks for reading.
Simillar problem appeared for me in Locations. I couldn't list country maps for preload on wifi without 3G. After turned on 3G, it listed the maps - turn off - and i could download with wifi.
So I got the Bravo in the mail today. I set everything up, and then I decided to download some apps and stuff. So I switched on wi-fi, and I went to the Market. Then I waited for about 30 seconds and I got an error message asking if I wanted to retry or just go back to the page before. I've tried both, no luck. I'm assuming it has to do with my wi-fi, because 3g works perfect. I have Time Warner Cable roadrunner, and a Motorola modem/Linksys Router. Whats wrong with it?
make sure you have your wifi turned on and set up in Wireless and network. settings
On my previous device (a Nexus 5X) when my phone connected to a WiFi network with a captive portal login I would get a notification to sign in and clicking this popped up the sign in page.
On my LG G6 870DS I get nothing, it just sits there connected to the network with no internet connection and no notification. To connect I have to manually forget the network and manually reconnect to it to force the login pop up.
Is the way that other users phones are working? Have I missed an obvious setting to change?
I have tried clearing the data from the captive portal login application and toggling the notify open networks option off and on.
Every time I go into a coffee shop or even worse every morning going into work having to go through this routine is a bit painful when it should just notify me there is a network available and let me click to connect.
My Verizon VS995 (VS9951CA/May 1, 2018 Security Patch) has begun disconnecting from my home (xFinity) wifi. It will make and hold a connection to a local "xfinitiwifi" with no problem or issues.
My partner's Samsung laptop, her iPhone, and my Verizion Asus tablet all connect and hold their connections with the xFinity router!
I have even tried using the "WPS" button connection which will also connect briefly (2-5 seconds as with manual) and then disconnects.
Network mode is set to "LTE/CDMA".
3G/4G works fine.
I have not rebooted the router as the other connections mentioned above are problem free.
(Update) Rebooted router Monday AM with no change. Phone still connects then almost immediately disconnects.
Even did a Network Reset to no avail.
What have I not done that I can actually access on a Verizon menu and/or what am I missing?
Thanks in advance for any assistance with this problem.
PS: I did a search here for this issue and did not get any links.
Final Update: Came across a very similar situation to mine on another forum from 2017. Had no idea why the problem started, had limited options available via the restricted Verizon menu, and no real help being offered that was Verizon specific. The person finally did a factory reset and all was well. Can report the same with mine as a factory reset this afternoon has allowed full connection with my home router and all is well!
