Water under screen in HD2 (update and question)

So I posted about a week ago about my hd2 getting water in it and drying it out with silica gel. It's been a week and the water has dried out about 95% and looks pretty good. I do have a question though (if anybody has any ideas or insights, that would be awesome)...
The screen is looking good but when I load Opera or YouTube (any screen really that is mostly white) I can see light brown striations in the bottom right corner. Could this be water residue? The "water" was actually solution from Invisible Shield so there are probably other things in the solution besides water. Is it some sort of dried out residue that is causing the striations, or is my screen just partially damaged/discolored?
I read that soaking the phone in alcohol will clear out water/residue from water and was wondering if it will work? Anybody who has done it before? Does anybody know if it will "wash out" the residue causing the striations? Thanks in advance. I'd really appreciate any insight!

Yep. Alcohol got it off but now there's more residue elsewhere -.-
I'm going to open it up in a few days when the repair kit comes thru the mail. Oh my...hopefully I won't kill the phone completely.

I dropped my Kaiser in the bathtub (thanks to my overzealous 2yo tossing it at me when it rang) and immediately pulled the battery. I let it sit out overnight in a bed of rice, but the keyboard still had some moisture in it the next day.
I have some dielectric fluid for various projects and decided to give that a shot, since water will float to the surface of any mineral oil-based fluid. It sat there for about an hour.
When I finally got the nerve to turn it on, the screen was very dark and didn't make it past the first bootscreen. I pulled out the keyboard to find that the fluid had stripped the adhesive from the keyboard lining. Now the phone is another toy for my child
Just Curious: How did the fluid get inside the phone? Did you not follow Zagg's directions?

there was fluid on the counter and I didn't realize it. It seeped in from the back where there were gaps. I used to have an iPhone and that never happened cuz there were no gaps for water to get in especially in such little amounts. I've put 3 zaggs on 3 different iDevices in the exact same manner and they never got water inside.

i'm a little late for an answer but the same happened to me just today. i removed the first protector and installed the second one and the glass cleaner (i didnt use water, just a glass cleaner that is self drying) got under the screen. i see a big shade that is getting bigger by the hour and i dont know why. i see it very clearly when the screen is showing something white. I' m hopping for now that it will go away.
Also i would like to say that there are some spray canister for that job. to remove the moister from electronic devices. the local dealer of nch corporation demonstrated me once a product like that and i was very sattisfied. So if the moister persist i will try that.

The problem with LCD screens is all the layers of material inside them, once you get moisture, residue, dirt inside an LCD its likely wrecked forever. I mean the LCD will still work but you'll probably never get the discolorations to go away. I have pulled apart a few backlit LCDs myself. Typically you have the LCD panel on top, 2 light diffusing layers, a "lightpipe" that takes the light from LEDs or CCFL tube at the edge of the screen and evenly distributes, and then a silver or white layer backing the whole thing.
Your only true chance to restore the LCD to original, would be to completely disassemble it, separating all the layers and then cleaning each layer back and front with a good cleaner, lint free microfiber cloth, and then try to reassemble the whole thing without getting fingerprints and dust from the air inside. It can be done. but its really not worth it when you can just pickup a LCD module off ebay.

My screen is a dust magnet, anybody have the same issue?

I am currently not using a screen protector and I've noticed my screen is a dust magnet. I get an substantial amount of dust latching on to my screen (if it was just a bit I wouldn't bother). Is there any liquid solution I can use to make the screen more dust resistant? I am currently using lens cleaner and disposable microfiber cloths to clean my screen. Anybody else getting the same issue?
I just ordered a SGP crystal clear screen protector because I noticed how popular they were on the forums... but it won't arrive for another week.

If by cave you mean the city of Toronto (yes I collect dust while walking around the city), then yeah I'd like to. But all the mayoral candidates are crap and our politicians are corrupt as hell. Cleaning ain't gonna happen. Thanks for the suggestion though.

But it's a real problem with a real solution (2.2-only)...
Go to settings
then click display
then scroll down
turn 'dust collector' off
that should do the trick!

This is my first time running into snarky people on xda, everybody else has been nothing short of helpful.
I'm noticing my phone screen is collecting more dust than all my other gadgets; I'm just wondering if anybody has had a similar issue.

Now that I think of it, I have never seen dust on the screen of my SGS, even though I live in a relatively polluted city. I guess it just gets wiped off by my fingers while, you know, I'm actually using the phone.

Thanks for letting me know.
Since I've got the phone I've been cleaning my screen with a camera lens cleaner solution. I'm just concerned I may have wiped off a coating off the glass, or the solution itself made the surface more adhesive. I'm sure it won't be a problem once the SGP protector arrives.

I know nothing about the hardware so please correct me... The screen is capacitive thus using electricity to detect touch. If for some reason the shielding is broken i can imagine it is a little bit static thus attracting dust. It could well be that my assessment is bs.

My guess is that you have rubbed off our dissolved some sort of coating. I've had mine here in Vancouver (so the same Bell model, probably) for a couple of months and have never noticed anything I'd describe as dust, maybe some good old sweat and grease.
If you don't mind my asking, why were you cleaning the screen in the first place? Why use any sort of cleaning liquid if you're gonna clean it at all? Wouldn't the microfiber cloth, or kimtech wipes be enough? But again, why do it at all?

Recent study reveals germs and bacteria make your phone more dirty then a toilet seat.

I don't need a study to tell me that, the toilet seat is one of the cleanest parts of your house.
Still, you don't see people washing their money, their keyboard, or their dish sponge obsessively...

I guess you could try brasso gadget clean or something. I have never tried it but its meant to be anti static. Hope that helps.

Personaly i clean my phone weekly not for the germs but to remove crusts. I use lcd screen cleaner btw. But if you'll ever have to take care of a baby you will quickly get into the habit of cleaning everything.

this is now getting way off topic, as I'm sure the baby isn't playing with the i9000
but to keep that train of thought going, first time parents do tend to clean everything thoroughly (and hourly), but by the time you have your second or third you realize there's really no need to scrub everything with antibacterial sprays...
anyway, I'm curios whether someone knows if a capacitive touchscreen, gorilla skin, or the SGS's implementation of both has some kind of coating that's vulnerable to being taken off with lense cleaning fluids

And I have noticed it is slightly less responsive. Before with use the slightest touch it would register my finger. Now it seems like I need to apply abit more pressure.
Also when applying the screen protector be VERY careful. I wasted the first one because of dust getting underneath. very annoying so be careful and do it somewhere dust free and as quickly as possible.

Although I wash my face with biotherm homme exfoliating face wash twice a day, I don't have the best skin in the world. I tend to accumulate oils as the day progresses and my phone tends to share a bit of it. With that said, it was necessary for me to clean the phone every so often. The reason I used lens cleaner was because it was readily available and I figured if it was gentle enough for a camera lens, it should be more than apt for glass.
I'm just speculating there may be an anti static layer I've cleaned off. I wouldn't be surprised if there was (I mean they do sell anti static sprays). Atm, I'm just waiting for my SGP Ultra Crystal screen protector.
In the worst case I'll also try Brasso and/or an anti-static spray.
As for applying the protector, I think I'm going to use the steamy washroom method.

I now have the same problem on my new Pixel 7 Pro I bought like a month ago. It's screen is dusty whenever I get it out of the pocket no matter what pants.
Searched everywhere and can't find anything useful. My first guess is some kind of static electricity. I've tried:
• other phones
• anti-static screen cleaner
• letting the battery die and keep it uncharged for like half a day.
• a bunch of different jeans/pants
• even tried vaccum cleaning my pockets and trying to pick up anything that's impossible to see with human eye by a lint roller and duct tape.
Putting on a screen protector film or tempered glass would be my last resort.
After 30 minutes in pocket it looks like this. It's really embarrassing when I have to get it out in front of other people. Also attaching a photo of my pocket so you don't think they are messy or something. Other phones do not have this problem in the same pocket

[Q] Cleaning Tips for Nexus 4 users

So I've had the Nexus 4 for around two weeks now and it's too well designed of a device for me to resort to using screen protectors although I will be getting a thin case soon since it is quite slippery. I was just wondering what some of you do in order to maintain the condition of the device. I've simply been using a dry microfiber cloth - usually used on my eyeglasses - and rubbing gently until all the smudges are gone. This keeps it quite clean for 3-4 days but I don't know if that period will shorten with prolonged use. Any and all tips are appreciated, thanks in advance!

I just usually rub it on my shirt. Takes the smudges off in one wipe

After I wash/dry my hands I use the edge of my palm, the coating is great so I don't even have to do that that often.

Sounds like a pack of microfiber cloths should do just fine for the future then! Thanks guys, still welcoming other suggestions

american apparel t-shirts work surprisingly well. it makes the phone extra shiny!
well it works just like a microfiber cloth.
any sunglasses pouch works well too!

I use optical wipes on my phones, gets rid of any finger grease and doesn't leave streaks.

I use the cloth that came with the Nillkin case. Works way better than a microfiber one that came with my girls mini laptop.. :/

He guys im new and i had a question about keeping my nexus 4 clean. So when i recieved my nexus 4 i had it naked without a screen protector or case, then i decided to buy a full body xtremeguard screen protector, which was 6 dollars. They arrived and i tried putting them on the next day. They were wet installation which i didnt really like. I had to use a bowl of handsoap and water. So I installed them and tried to accelerate the drying process a little by using a blow dryer, but guess what, it really made the beautiful screen look all ugly and disoriented so i took them off and decided to keep it the way. and applied a little more water to the glass to get all the soapy residue off and dried it off a little more. The next day I noticed that when i held it in sunlight I noticed this white stuff inside the crevices in between the glass and the edges of the phone. SO whats bothering me is that i think its dried soap in there and blow drying it only made it worse. But wheat really gets me ticked off is that i wanted to keep my phone perfect and clean but that stuff is still in there and i dont know how to get it out. Its just killing me. Ive tried water, q tips, even scraping it out with printer paper but no luck. Can anyone give me ideas or help plz?? thx. IM sorry if this a very long post

Should have left the XtremeGuard on there, it takes a few days for them to dry properly and until they do, they look like a disaster.
As for the left overs, maybe a fingernail will be able to scrape it out?

Fingernail is thicker than paper. If he can't get it out with paper....Try using a needle I guess?

Oh nope I already tried that when my nails were longer and now there even more useless ha. Its too deep in there. But I guess I'll keep searching though. Any type of liquid I could use to dissolve it or something?

Not related to the above posts as such but more the actual thread title, a pair of jeans works very well. Wiping the phone on my knees while wearing jeans gets rid of everything, and no smears either. Looks like new, much better than T-Shirts.

anyone have advice on how to clean the ear piece grill? putting my nexus 4 in my jeans and pockets add lint to the inside of the grill. it annoys me. any advice on how to get it super clean and all black again?

Compressed air, but be careful not to blow it to closely.
As far as cleaning the screen itself, I use monster LCD/plasma TV cleaner I got at best buy. Its a little pricy but I've had it for 3 years and works wonders on all my phones, even on screen protectors.
I do not have any advice as far as what to do what the residue in the screen your talking about.
I have a screen protector on the screen and have been thinking about removing it lately. I had a convo with my neighbor who never uses a protector on his phones. He never has gotten a huge scratch on gorilla glass, and to be honest I rarely ever change my protector and prob sacrifice more clear screen using one vs not...

Get yourself a small camera lens puffer (like a rocket). Great for getting dust and lint out of nooks and crannys, but not enough force to damage anything nor any chemical agents (like in canned air).

my ear piece and mic is a bit dirty, I don't think air will get it out. can you use alcohol or something similar??

Guessing you didn't find the threads on xtremeguard accessories sections. There are 70-80%off coupons. There you would have found out they are wet install.. And would have known that they get better if left alone to dry thoroughly in 24-48hours.
I guess it's lucky you didn't over do the hair dryer and ended up with a physically damaged unit. Mainly the mic and ear piece stop working right.
You obviously used too much soap in your solution. You can take your time and get it cleaned up again. I'd be careful not to reallly scratch up the screen wiping with a cloth that collected silica dust..

a q-tip and a little rubbing alcohol should help.

Yeah I know I probably shouldn't have used too much soap or the hair dryer. And simms22 I already tried the qtip with rubbing alcohol but thanks anyway. Anyone have anymore ideas?? Its really stuck on there

Scratch it out with a needle. Just be very careful when you are doing it.

Use a toothpick and a vacuum. BUT I would recommend you just leave it be. Than risk making it worse I.e. your exp with the protector..

[Q] How to clean black dots

So, I've one extremely small black dot on my screen, I don't think it's a dead pixel, since it remains in the same tone, and appears in every type of background, my device is also fairly new (2 days of use, never dropped or anything). I've tried to clean it with a microfiber cloth that came with my TV, no luck, also tried it with a bit of water, nothing. Anything I can do to remove it? Can I identify if it really is a dead pixel or not?

Return the phone and get another one.
There is nothing that a new phone should have stuck to gorilla glass 3 that cannot be cleaned off.
It is eithet dirt caught behind the glass and amoled panel or a dead pixel.
Put the phone in test mode by dialing *#0*#
You will find screen testing tools there.

Is the anything I can try to remove it? I don't recall seeing it when I first used the phone, and how I do get those dots on my monitor (they don't go away when I clean it, it seems it kinda of softens out after some time, and I can remove it) idk if it really is dust behind the phone.

If it is a surface artifact (e.g. paint ) you can try gently rubbing a finger over the spot to see if it is indeed on the surface of the glass.
If it is on the glass then you can try:
1. %70 isopropyl alcohol on a clean cloth or
2. A clean cloth that is wet with just water or
3. maybe a little dishwashing detergent.
If it not a surface artifact then none of those will work and there is nothing you can do.

I thought I should reply to this topic.
I took my device to a Samsung Center, they told me it was a problem in the process of "gluing" the screen to the glass (the point was indeed below the glass), they will replace the whole panel (they aren't allow to remove just the glass) and send a notification to Samsung itself. I should have my device in 8 days.
