So, I've one extremely small black dot on my screen, I don't think it's a dead pixel, since it remains in the same tone, and appears in every type of background, my device is also fairly new (2 days of use, never dropped or anything). I've tried to clean it with a microfiber cloth that came with my TV, no luck, also tried it with a bit of water, nothing. Anything I can do to remove it? Can I identify if it really is a dead pixel or not?
Thanks guys.
Return the phone and get another one.
There is nothing that a new phone should have stuck to gorilla glass 3 that cannot be cleaned off.
It is eithet dirt caught behind the glass and amoled panel or a dead pixel.
Put the phone in test mode by dialing *#0*#
You will find screen testing tools there.

Is the anything I can try to remove it? I don't recall seeing it when I first used the phone, and how I do get those dots on my monitor (they don't go away when I clean it, it seems it kinda of softens out after some time, and I can remove it) idk if it really is dust behind the phone.

If it is a surface artifact (e.g. paint ) you can try gently rubbing a finger over the spot to see if it is indeed on the surface of the glass.
If it is on the glass then you can try:
1. %70 isopropyl alcohol on a clean cloth or
2. A clean cloth that is wet with just water or
3. maybe a little dishwashing detergent.
If it not a surface artifact then none of those will work and there is nothing you can do.

I thought I should reply to this topic.
I took my device to a Samsung Center, they told me it was a problem in the process of "gluing" the screen to the glass (the point was indeed below the glass), they will replace the whole panel (they aren't allow to remove just the glass) and send a notification to Samsung itself. I should have my device in 8 days.

Well, my touch screen has pretty much gone crazy. It keeps picking up a touch in the bottom right hand corner repeatedly, even though nothing is touching it. So it is at the point where the phone just keeps vibrating and spazzing out on the table. I've done a hard reset already, so i believe the problem is likely hardware related, any possible ideas to fix this? I did rub the phone with some tooth paste earlier though.

rub the phone down with toothpaste? hoping for some minty fresh conversations?? only thing that would help with would be fixing minor scratches in the surface and even then it would have to be an older style toothpaste (none of the new gel types) as it would need to be a minor abrasion type
Sounds if the screen is picking up a ghost touch - then your digitizer is coming apart (sometimes can also be detected by seeing an "oily" something under the screen) and the only fix is to replace the screen
You can find some on EBay as well as the kits to do the operation as well
and the directions can be found around here and over at PPCGeeks just search "replacing the screen" or "replacing the digitizer" and you should get some threads with a PDF attached and where to find it all

Yes, actually there looks like a giant blob of liquid underneath the screen, but it moves around so it is actually liquid... I bought this phone second hand, so i assume its probably been through the washer. Water damage stick is red too. However, after leaving the battery out overnight, the ghost touches went away.

surprised it works had it been dipped in a washer LOL
the fact it could still be a digitizer issue as it "looks" as if an oily or water bubble under the screen is moving about when pressure is applied
Best bet, get a bag of rice or a handful of those desiccant packages from a local shoe or electronic store near you, remove the battery and back cover and SD card - put rest of phone in a baggy with some rice and the desiccant packs, close up the baggy and walk away for 24 hours or so
If it is water it will be gone definitely then, if it is the digitizer separating, you will still have the blob under the screen as it is the result of the polarized screens moving to and away from each other causing the look of a rainbow weird oily blob
Once you know which it is, you can decide how to go from there -deal with water (which should be gone after the baggy treatment) or replace the digitizer from EBay

Hi to all who have dust between the touch screen digitizer and LCD.
I send my device 3 times to the authorised HTC service center because of this problem, they cleaned it (not perfectly) and the dust was back again after few days of use. This was really ennoying for me...
After several disassemblies, cleaning, research where dust comes in, then assembles I found the flaw.
The dust doesn’t come in via sealing foam between the touch screen digitizer and LCD.
There is a bump defect of phone housing around the volume keys. Inside of the plastic housing is a metal frame, where the touch screen digitizer is stacked on - that frame is a little bended and the touch screen doesn’t stick properly on it (around the volume keys only). When you look close on the phone you can see also a little wider gap between the touch screen top glass and silver plastic housing edge. (See picture)
WARNING
The following directions WILL VOID
your warranty - you are performing
this repair at your own risk.
So, now, what you have to do:
For those, who have already dust in, just simply disassembly your device (if you are brave enough, have all tools and precise hands - maybe some experience ) and remove PROPERLY all dirt with brush, compressed air and antistatic cloth, then assemble it back or send the device to the service center to clean it (wont void the warranty). Before sealing your TD2 (keep it in plastic bag away from dust) prepare a sharp wooden toothpick, neutral transparent or black silicone (you can purchase it from any building material shop) and cotton cloth.
Now you have to clean the gap between whole plastic silver housing frame and touch screen top glass with soft brush. Then use sharp wooden toothpick to impress the silicone into the gap (all gaps you can see, just in case) (silicone does not damage phone housing and TSCR surface and it’s easy to clean), then just gently and properly wipe off all the rest of silicone from phone surface. (be careful not to get silicone to the keys or phone receiver slot)
Leave the phone for several hours to get silicone dry.
Then you can use your TD2 in dusty environment and your display stays absolutely clean and dusty free. (TESTED on mine, for me perfect phone now and I am very happy with it...)
For those who have a little dust in and want to stop come more in and those who are planning to buy TD2 (dont wanna play the lottery faulty or not ), do the same procedure (silicone impress only) after unwrapping your device from plastic package.
GOOD LUCK!!! ENJOY YOUR ABSOLUTELY DUSTY FREE DEVICE!!!
Sorry for my English
I don't know about you guys, but I'm not crazy enough to void the warranty of my phone because of a minor thing like that. When mine gets dirty, I send it back and that's it.
If it gets dirty again, I send it back again...
But, it's a good tutorial for the "brave ones" anyway Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
HastaSSSS
I sent mine back over a week ago due to this dust problem (in fact I delivered it in person to HTC repair center in Milton Keynes) hoping for a quick turnaround.
I'm still waiting for it to come back and missing it terribly. I'm back to using my old Nokia E71 which is a great phone but I like my new one and want it back so I may go down the route of the OP just so I don't have to repeat the return each time I get a dust issue.....

i dont want to hijack this thread. if i am then i am sorry
but hopefully you can input your expertise into this thread or help form an opinion for a new thread
I just got a topaz and want to keep dust from getting in but I'm confused about the sillicon. Could you describe more clearly what it is and maybe post a picture so I have some idea what it should look like.
from the picture, for the second gap, apply the protective foil that comes with the phone. Should solve a bit the problem. Ber in mind that after apply, the touchscreen will not have the same sensitivity. You'll have to tap a little bit harder ...
i think you meant screen protector no?
anyway thx for the info,
if anyone knows how to disassemble this device pls help
yes, screen protector. Better not use the screwdriver ... remember warranty ...
I thought these dust under the screen issues had been fixed long ago, but now it seems the problem that affected my old c600 has come back to ruin my topaz after just 1 week.
Not impressed.

I already use a screen protector. I'm more concerned about the first gap. I really don't want dust to happen since I bought my phone second hand and it doesn't have a warrenty.
you can always use a can of pressurized air to get the dust out. (same you use with PCs)
Wouldn't you need two holes that are connected if your blowing air into the device? One for the air to go in and one for the dust to go out? I don't have any dust under my screen currently and would like it to remain that way. The silicon method doesn't seem to difficult or dangerous which is why I'm interested in what silicon to use.
from what I understood (from the pictures in the 1st post), it's not actually a hole, but a free space = gap.
I opened the D2 (only the two upper screws - for lifting the inner part a bit) and did have a look for "gaps" somewhere around the volume controls - i did not really see a gap
But for getting out the dust: dont blow air into the D2 but get the air out - i actually used a vacuum-cleaner. If you remove the two screws it is possible to lift the LCD below the volume sliders *A LITTLE BIT* (=about 0,5 mm only!!!!!) with a small screw driver to create a gap. It worked quite well. (be aware of high air flow and possible static electricity)
But i really would like to know, where exactly to apply some supplementary sealing to get rid of the dust-problem. Any detailed pic would be appreciated.

Yeah Me too!
OK, people, just put some neutral silicone between (in the gap) silver plastic frame and touch screen (there is just 0,2 -0,5 mm gap, almost invisible) and you wont get any dust under the touch screen. This is the best solution, you could do it from inside, but its much more complicated...

What exactly is neutral silicone? Do you have a picture of it so I know what to buy?
I'm about to buy the TD2,
is it so big problem this dust under the screen?
Does it happen often?

I've had it for about a week and the user I bought it from had it supposedly for about 3 weeks and so far no dust. I'm still terrified its going to happen though.

Thanks for the pic, pedroo - so they simply should have glued the digitizer surface a bit more careful to the housing...
...thinking a bit about applying the radical solution - not sure yet
So I posted about a week ago about my hd2 getting water in it and drying it out with silica gel. It's been a week and the water has dried out about 95% and looks pretty good. I do have a question though (if anybody has any ideas or insights, that would be awesome)...
The screen is looking good but when I load Opera or YouTube (any screen really that is mostly white) I can see light brown striations in the bottom right corner. Could this be water residue? The "water" was actually solution from Invisible Shield so there are probably other things in the solution besides water. Is it some sort of dried out residue that is causing the striations, or is my screen just partially damaged/discolored?
I read that soaking the phone in alcohol will clear out water/residue from water and was wondering if it will work? Anybody who has done it before? Does anybody know if it will "wash out" the residue causing the striations? Thanks in advance. I'd really appreciate any insight!

Yep. Alcohol got it off but now there's more residue elsewhere -.-
I'm going to open it up in a few days when the repair kit comes thru the mail. Oh my...hopefully I won't kill the phone completely.

I dropped my Kaiser in the bathtub (thanks to my overzealous 2yo tossing it at me when it rang) and immediately pulled the battery. I let it sit out overnight in a bed of rice, but the keyboard still had some moisture in it the next day.
I have some dielectric fluid for various projects and decided to give that a shot, since water will float to the surface of any mineral oil-based fluid. It sat there for about an hour.
When I finally got the nerve to turn it on, the screen was very dark and didn't make it past the first bootscreen. I pulled out the keyboard to find that the fluid had stripped the adhesive from the keyboard lining. Now the phone is another toy for my child
Just Curious: How did the fluid get inside the phone? Did you not follow Zagg's directions?

there was fluid on the counter and I didn't realize it. It seeped in from the back where there were gaps. I used to have an iPhone and that never happened cuz there were no gaps for water to get in especially in such little amounts. I've put 3 zaggs on 3 different iDevices in the exact same manner and they never got water inside.
hello people.
i'm a little late for an answer but the same happened to me just today. i removed the first protector and installed the second one and the glass cleaner (i didnt use water, just a glass cleaner that is self drying) got under the screen. i see a big shade that is getting bigger by the hour and i dont know why. i see it very clearly when the screen is showing something white. I' m hopping for now that it will go away.
Also i would like to say that there are some spray canister for that job. to remove the moister from electronic devices. the local dealer of nch corporation demonstrated me once a product like that and i was very sattisfied. So if the moister persist i will try that.
The problem with LCD screens is all the layers of material inside them, once you get moisture, residue, dirt inside an LCD its likely wrecked forever. I mean the LCD will still work but you'll probably never get the discolorations to go away. I have pulled apart a few backlit LCDs myself. Typically you have the LCD panel on top, 2 light diffusing layers, a "lightpipe" that takes the light from LEDs or CCFL tube at the edge of the screen and evenly distributes, and then a silver or white layer backing the whole thing.
Your only true chance to restore the LCD to original, would be to completely disassemble it, separating all the layers and then cleaning each layer back and front with a good cleaner, lint free microfiber cloth, and then try to reassemble the whole thing without getting fingerprints and dust from the air inside. It can be done. but its really not worth it when you can just pickup a LCD module off ebay.
Did anyone already open the Desire HD?
I followed a youtube instruction how to apply the screen protection, with some drops of water. Well, being more careful than in the video by using a towel to suck off rinsing water instead of a plastic wiper to get the foil onto the screen did not help.
Phone is dry and works without any limitations, except for the usual VERY annoying 'watermarks'
I am sure the display 'only' needs some cleaning in between if possible. Did anyone ever try that? I found HowTos for Desire, but none for DHD.
Ouch! Are you saying you have water in your DHD, or just under the screen protector?
I fear it's the former?
Usually that means either you used too much soap or hi you have not let it dry. Remember that you need to wait at least 24 hours for the protector to settle in. They often look a bit dodgy to begin with but it should clear up after a day or so...
Must have been too much soap then. I just took 4-5 drops on the display and have let the screen protection foil drop off before apply.
Phone is dry and I have had it to dry on my heater (not too much heat, of course).
There is no water between screen and protector, but under the touch field and it must be somewhere on the LCD panel, since watermarks look like limited to certain areas in a very straight way (like exact horizontal and vertical lines).
Well, I´ll send it in and see what it will cost. It won´t make sense any other way.
I'm worried that water has managed to get in under the screen ... are you able to show this in a photo at all?
I have seen that some of the marks changed and put it into a box filled with rice. It is on the heating for two days now and I'll try to hold myself touching it before the weekend.
I reflashed my Diamond and stick to it until then...
Believe it or not, but drying it in a closed box with rice helped.
There are no more spots visible and it looks like new.
I've got a Galaxy S8 on release, and when I put my phone in my pocket, it gets smudge on the same exact spot everytime, this does not happen only when I put it inside my pocket but also when I use my finger on the same spot.
Cleaning the smudge is pretty hard it doesn't go away easily like your typical smudge but still it does go away, but after a while it just reappears; I tried cleaning with alcohol and the same thing happens.
Now with alcohol something interesting happens, when you put on alcohol on the screen, it becomes little drips of alcohol, so that the alcohol doesn't stick on the screen, but on the spot that the smudge appears the alcohol sticks, and doesn't turn to little drips, I will put pictures soon.
I want to know if I should get a replacement or not, and If I can somehow fix it.
Thanks for your time people!
That's your oleophibic coating wearing off. Do you regularly clean your phone with alcohol?
I have the same exact issue, never used anything but a microfiber cloth to clean and it comes back within a day. Can't for the life of me figure this out.

Excessive cleaning could wear out the coating but shouldn't happen this fast maybe about a year or so at least until it starts to wear out.
Just try a rom, if you don't like it you can check out another one

It's seems to be the oleophobic coating (anti fingerprint coating) wearing off. The spots are running right along the seam of my work pants and the bottom hem of my boxers.
I cracked my screen and getting it replaced tomorrow and am putting a screen protector on it right away, that coating has never worn of in any way like this on any of my other phones.

Device: Redmi Note 5 Pro (whyred,6+64)?
Short Version: Rub crushed powdered kind of ice on the screen, especially at smudges, and wipe it clean with a soft microfiber cloth.????
Ok first of, I play pubg mobile a lot, and use thumb control setup. So at two places, where my thumb rests, one day I noticed a significant smudge on both places.????
I tried alcorub(alcohol solution) to wipe it off, but same as above, it sticked on screen.??
Today, after playing a long session, I put phone to charging, and it was heating up, so I put it in ice section in my refrigerator with its screen facing down and in contact with ice for 5 mins???. Some water droplets condensed, so I cleaned it with cloth.?
To my surprise, I was like yureka! I found the solution! I noticed that smudges were completely gone, and my a was glossy and good as new!????
