How to update rooted phone without wiping data? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Is there any way to do this?
I already downloaded latest firmware from sammobile. But to flash HOME_CSC and avoid wiping data, i need to enable "Secure startup" which i can't do since the phone is rooted.
Thanks.

[Q] Unroot fails (Odin OK, but no change when booting phone)

Dear,
Short story long:
I've rooted my Note 3 N9005 with the CF autoroot package (Kitkat)
Apparently, my television provider blocks rooted phones so i couldn't watch live streams anymore.
Then I made my mistake (apparently), and in SuperSU, I deactivated the "Enable Superuser".
Now I can't get my phone rooted again.
I though I'd flash the stock firmware via Odin, and restart everything.
Odin 3.09 works OK, the 2GB firmware is uploaded, no errors in Odin.
However, the device reboots and nothing happened, no stock firmware, all my data, apps and configuration is still there...
Anyone that can help me out to get to factory defaults: Clean firmware, clean settings, clean everything?
Thanks!
Matt

OK, I found the "error".
In order to be able to root, in settings, general, security. Reactivation lock has to be disabled. Now it works like a charm again!

[Q] SM-G900I

Hi There
Im trying to fix another persons SM-N900I which is stuck in a bootloop.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE PHONE
What I've been told is that the phone was receiving an OTA upgrade to Lollipop in which it crashed somewhere in the process, which caused the phone to become all glitchy (that's what she said). In addition this caused the KNOX flag to be tripped which meant that the carrier staff refused to honour the warranty saying it was caused by a custom flash.
So attempting to remedy this she tried to use odin to flash a stock rom which sent the phone into an indefinite bootloop. (Sorry no idea what rom she tried to flash or if she clicked something wrong).
WHAT I'VE TRIED
Using Kies to "Firmware Upgrade and Intialisation" with the model number and S/N. This completed successfully with no errors, however after a restart I still get a bootloop.
As in 1 but with factory reset and clearing cache in recovery before flash.
Using odin to flash stock rom from sammobile. Still bootlooped after flash.
Trying stock KITKAT rom from sammobile with odin. Still bootloops after flash.
Installing a custom recovery and installing a couple of custom roms (factory resetting and clearing dalvik cache before install). Still bootloops...
Flashing stock bootloader, and stock rom. Still bootloops...
I wanted to try and flash a PIT file however I get the "secure check fail : PIT" message with and without flashing it with stock rom. Im assuming this is because reactivation lock wasn't disabled.
Not really sure where to go from here?
Thank You

If you are using Windows operating system, have you tried running Odin "As Administrator" ( using right click on the mouse when you open Odin ), then try partitioning with the PIT file.

Stay on the stock ROM provided by my carrier in my country + root access and exposed?

I want to stay on the stock ROM provided for my country (I get monthly updates) and I only need root access and xposed. Is there any way to easily update every month without Odin, flashing twrp all over again and the factory wipe that comes with it?
Hi,
I'm not sure but you could install Magisk + systemless XPosed, remove it before OTA update, do the update and reinstall it - but I'm not sure, so wait for a confirmation before doing so.
Would it be possible to flash everything EXCEPT the AP (recovery file) and upgrade without losing root and factory resetting? If you use Home_CSC instead of the normal CSC file, it won't factory reset.

Rooted S10+ ASF3 to rooted ASG8

Hi, i have magisk root from asf3 firmware. What are the steps to upgrade to asg8? Anyone tried it? Thanks
Note: OEM unlocking @ settings>developer options> is not greyed out. Is it normal? Ok?
Can I flash immediately via odin? BL CP CSC is required? I have already patched AP via magisk from firmware from asf3.
Do i still need to wipe data via recovery after flashing?
Thanks in advance.
Yes, magisk patch the new firmware. Load it in odin, patched AP BL,CP, and Home csc. No need to wipe for updating new firnware. Only wipe if you installing TWRP for the first time

Thanks, so i will just turn off the phone. Boot to download mode, flash the latest firmware and patched AP via Odin, and its ok to set auto restart and not manually restart to recovery mode and wipe?

Dirty flash rooted stock Firmware

Hello,
i want to know how to update a rooted s8+ with minimal effort.
can i dirty flash samsung original firmware via odin while keeping my files, apps and settings and reflash twrp and magisk afterwards?
Assuming that the oem unlock switch is activated before the update of course

Download your firmware. When you extract the downloaded file there will be 2 CSC:s files.
CSC - will wipe your phone
Home_CSC - will keep your data
Flash with Odin all files using Home_CSC.
Inportant Note: Backup first.
If you are having issues with using the Home_CSC try from recovery clear cache/davlik or you will have to factory reset or reflash using the CSC file.
You will have to reinstall trwp and magisk.
OEM lock has no bearing when flashing stock firmware.
