Guide - Use Bixby Button To Toggle Mute - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S8+ Guides, News, & Discus

Hi guys,
Just figured out how to use the bixby button to toggle mute.
Steps:
1. Make sure Bixby is actually set up (that's right.. Bixby, not BixBye... yet). This step will allow BixBye to function properly on the lockscreen.
1. Download BixBye from the app store and set it up
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=you.in.spark.bixbye
2. Download Mute from app store and set it up https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=muter.muter
3. Set BixBye action to launch app, and select the Mute app
4. Enjoy! =D
** Not sure if anyone knows of an app that toggles between sound, vibrate and mute simply by tapping the app's icon. That would be better than the "Mute" app that only toggles between mute and sound.

I use a widget called Silent Mode to toggle between sound/vibrate/mute. I don't know if that would work for this or not.

[Q] Setting aria to silent

Ok total newb question, however this is my first smart phone ever. How do you set the ringer to silent? The only way I can manage is to go into Sound and Display settings and lower the ringer volume all the way down. Is there a shortcut that I am missing or is this the only way to do it?
1 step up from all the way down with the volume control on the left side of the phone.

Just use the volume rocker on the left side of the phone. Pressing it down all the way to the second to last setting puts it into silent mode (the absolute lowest setting, oddly enough, is vibrate).
From what I remember seeing, there should also be market apps that will let you place a widget on one of your homescreens which allows you to quickly put your phone on silent.
Just hold the power button for two seconds
Then choose silent or vibrate

You can download the Profile widget from HTC that will allow you to switch between Normal, Vibrate, and Silent easily.
1) Long press on a home screen.
2) Select Widget, then Get more HTC widgets.
3) Download Profile widget.
4) Press back to return to the Add widget menu.
5) Select Settings, then Profile to add the widget to your home screen.

Volume rocker activated call?

I was looking at fake call apps for my GS4 to get me out of awkward situations.
But a lot of the good ones are missing one critical feature...being able to use it AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT!
A lot of them just have a timer (15 secs, 30 secs etc) but its a bit obvious to pull out a phone, set the schedule and BOOM 15 secs later i get a 'phone call'.
I want to be able to casually reach into my pocket, hold down the volume rockers for a few seconds and activate my pre-configured 'call'.
Then i found a couple of phones that had an excellent implementation of this: the Samsung S5511T & Samsung Intensity III.
Short story long, anyone know of an app (free or paid) that has this?
I don't know any app to do that but I think you can achieve this by using an app like Tasker to do that. Tasker is an app which allows you to perform something in a specifical context.
Configure Tasker in order to open the app which simulate a call when : screen is turned off and long press volume down button.
Hope it will help you
Thanks for the suggestion i installed tasker and have Fake Call & SMS installed
I can get the app to open using the headphone jack (best hardware option i could find) but what commands would i need in the IF statement section to make a call?
For the context I think it is possible to find a more apropriate context, ask google about tasker (Or maybe an app similar to tasker exist and has this feature)
For the fake call I think there are two options :
- you can try to create a task (in tasker) which unlock your phone and launch the app. Next, maybe tasker can emulate a press on the touchscreen. But I'm sure Tasker can emulate the press of a button, so see in your app if the press of a button can launch the fake call.
-or (I think it's an easier way) you can create a task which will : make your phone ring and vibrate and open a screenshot of a lockscreen wiwh an incoming call). Then, you only have to configure your task to stop the ringtone when you touch the screen or press a button.
1)Root your android device (most important!)
2)Get Pressy
3)Get Tasker
4)Create a Tasker profile to simulate a fake call
5)Create a Pressy button action to activate the fake call Tasker profile
6)Enjoy! :good:

Activate Silent Mode on Android L

This is the best work around I've found. I've tried this with power toggles but it should also work with other apps.
On your power toggle widget, add the volume toggle.
On the widget, press the volume toggle once. Your phone will go into priority mode. Press it again and you should be in silent mode.
Reactle's Light flow will also push LED's in this mode so its just like the silent mode in KK.
I've tested most of the social networking apps plus incoming phone calls, Google messenger, Whatsapp and Email. Phone remains silent, screen does not light up ( have ambient display enabled on my N5 so that lights up) and LED is pushed through.
Let me know if this works
Cheers

Doesn't work for me, I can only switch between Priority mode (I guess, the star symbol appears in the notification bar) and ringer+vibration. I have to use the hardware volume button to bring up the volume menu, then choose priority mode (click it away without doing changes) and then I can use Power Toggles to set it to vibrate only or completely mute. This works only one time, so when I get back to vibrate+ring I have to go through the whole process again when I want the phone to be silent.
But this is the second time I installed Lollipop. The first time I did a rollback to KK shortly after, but during the first install the sound noticeably crackled during toggling and I also could get it to vibrate only, but not mute completely.
Since then Power Toggles received an update which brings the behaviour I mentioned first in this post, I reported this to the dev.
Good thing now is that you can toggle data connection with the actual version which didn't work before (needs Root).
Can you tell what your Power Toggles settings are or maybe upload a backup file?
EDIT:
I just tried out the Power Toggles Volume Slider and this one is working! You press it and it brings up a window with all the volume modes to choose from, it's two clicks and you have the phone in silent, vibrate, ring or ring+vibrate!
Two drawbacks though:
-Doing this leaves a card in the recen app slider
-The Power Toggles widget doesn't change so you only know if you're in priority mode (muted, star symbol in notification bar) or on vibrate (vibrate symbol in notification bar).
If you're on ring only or vibrate and ring there is no hint on the homescreen or the widget. You kinda have to open the slider menu again to be sure.
I have to try out later if all this really works and isn't just some optical feedback without any function.
That's strange, clicking on one of the toggles on the widget should not leave a recent app in the slider. It doesn't for me, never has.
I can tell I am in silent mode by looking at the PT Toggle. When in silent, it will show a struck out speaker. Otherwise it appears as normal.
Once again. this is the best workaround I could find and it's working flawlessly for me, so I thought I should share.

The recent app appears in the slider when I use the Volume Slider Toggle. This is also the only way I can mute the phone.
Maybe you can upload your PT config so I can have a look how you did set it up?
Attaching a screenshot. The rightmost toggle is the volume toggle.

Yes, for some reason I am having a different effect than you have, I can only switch between ring only and ring+vibration...I hope PT gets antoher update pretty soon.

Same here
Tried it on a couple of Nexus devices. Worked on all. Tried it on the OnePlus One today and worked as well.
Toggling the switch once is priority, what happens when you toggle it again? Does the volume icon strike out?
Notification toggle works like a charm.
I just found out you actually have to DEACTIVATE the ring+vibrate function in the Power Toggles "Volume Toggle" settings to get it working "properly"
Now I can switch between vibrate+ring / vibrate+ring in priority mode (star in status bar, no idea what kind of use this has) / silent (also with star in status bar) / vibrate only (with vibrate symbol in status bar)
Even though PT got the hiccups this week for some reason, had calendar notification sounds when it was on vibrate only and some other weird behaviour. A couple of reboots solved the problem so far.
Still, PT needs a huge update.

G3 TweaksBox (for G2 stock Lollipop) Camera Shutter Sound & Other Features?

My phone's life is coming to an end so I thought it was time to try break it.
I've installed the free version of G3 TweaksBox via Xposed.
I'm trying to find out if the "disable camera shutter sound" tweak works in the paid version (grayed out in the free version). Can anyone confirm?
Also, does anyone have a list of G3 TweaksBox tweaks that work or don't work (shorter list I'm sure) on the G2?
I've searched through the G3 TweaksBox thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2792242), but not finding anything.
If you want to disable shutter sound you can just install xdabbed Camera drivers and app for lollipop About xposed tweaks, hmm, I don't know :d
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2548974
That looks awesome, will definitely give it a go!
For the one, possibly two people who will ever find this useful, I can confirm that the mute camera shutter sound option works. This option only enables the no sound option within the camera app though, so you still need to select "off" for shutter sound in the camera app afterwards - which makes sense. You may also have to select "disable forced camera sounds".
I also drew up a list of options I enabled, which work (only one doesn't work):
(I didn't test other options, only these that I use)
Center clock
Advanced reboot menu (paid)
Disable low battery warning
Allow all rotations
Keep screen off on AC
Volume keys skip track (paid)
Mute volume adjust sound (paid) doesn't work - use Gravity Box instead
Long press back (paid)
Long press recents
Long press Home (paid)
Long press notification
Long press duration
Enable call recording
Hide keyboard input switcher notification
Hide battery full notification
Hide slow charging notification
Disable video recorder sounds
Disable focus sounds
Volume up action: toggle torch
Hide battery saver persistent notification (paid)
Hide airplane mode popup (paid)
Disable shutter sound (paid)
Launch camera app when battery below 5% (paid)

Change Home Button 'Long Press' to Specific App

Hi there
I figured out how to change the long press home button to other 'Assist Apps' but really I'd just like to change it to a direct app shortcut (Google Voice Search).
Any ideas how to do this?
Thanks!

how did you change the home button?
search for home app in settings
Use Secure Settings
search for JB ExeNow on play store. This assist app can let you set which app to launch.
His other app JB Locknow is my favourite app for triggering lockscreen until Fingerprint lockscreen comes in (Better use other like Greenify to use other lock method otherwise you can do FP unlock from sleep - forced to unlock with pattern/code)
