lineage 13 Formating internal with sd not working - Galaxy Grand Prime Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I try to reformat my SD card it gets corrupted and k even tried a different sd card and I got the same thing. Isn't their some type of zip file I can flash to fix this?

The same thing is happening to me too! Even made a thread about it.... Only difference is, I'm on Lineage 14

I wonder of its some type of bug. I mean my 64gb SD card is genuine

Yea, mine USED to work, but now, it doesn't. I also do get an error from time to time

Pardon the bump, but it seems like his and my thread is getting no help, and this is a very irritating bug.... So far I've tried: 1) Downgrading to LineageOS 13, still doesn't work. Even for two completely new SD cards, same problem

What do you mean we are a lost cause? I think their could be something wrong with the partition of our SD cards.

Lol. Doesn't seem like anyone is trying to help. And idk if that's the problem. I tried a BRAND NEW card, and still had the same problem
I did find a way to do it in TWRP, but haven't tried yet. When I do, I'll let you know the results

[Q] Removing SD while Android is running - what happens?

Hi there,
Since there is a unmount sd card in the settings of android i tried and unmounted it and took the sd card out to put some files onto it.
Well then Android was running for some more seconds, but then got stuck.
I suppose removing the SD card was not the best idea i had. (Even though i thought all the android files after booting were in the internal memorĂ½)
Can someone explain to me what happens when i remove my sd card while android is running?
Is it damaging the file system?
Is it damaging the card?
Is it damaging the phone?
Sorry..have no clue at all
So thought i ask before causing severe damage...
Cheerio
Thats exactly what I have done a few times (I forget that I have to boot into WinMo first).
I don't think it'll cause any lasting damage... At worst, you'll have to start a fresh ROM - But i've not had to yet !
It's certainly not a good thing to do. You are more likely to have file corruption, which of course can be fixed with a reinstall (you might even be able to keep your data.img).
It's also not good for the SD card. Removing it without really unmounting (we can't really unmount on HD2 without nand), increases chances of having your sd card bricked. Odds aren't big, but still not recomended. Your phone doesn't suffer any damage at all though!
ok thanks! Reinstalling the build right now...how would i realize if my card is bricked? not working anymore? loss of speed?
Thanks!
crash... i tried it before.. wasnt funny...

Could be all kinds of problems I guess, but Android would probably just crash after a while and not be able to reboot. Chances are low though, you usually needn't worry.

1) I've read other's who have had a similar problem. Search the forums. I believe it has something with residuals from previous ROMs. Try task29 before flashing.
2) Seriously asking this???? You use Zune to put content on to your phone! WP7 works through Zune. Have you not read any of the "how-to install WP7" write-ups and the requirements for syncing with your PC?
It isn't any different from what you did with WM6.5, just a different interface.
Ignore him, i dont know why his ranting on about zune and WM6.5
But he is right in that this is covered on here already
Try searching for "200MB" on the search this forum tool, heres a couple to get you started.

I didn't look at the links, but it basically has to do with how WP7 formats your SD card. It can be reformatted in a way that reflects the size of the card. I can provide you with more help if you'd like.

ah yes, sorry bit of an assumption made there! you will need to hard reset and install again, or reflash, its up to you, on the positive side, with only 200mb storage you'll not have lost much. your activation code if you have one should still work

you need to reflash the rom as wp7 foramts and partitions the card during setup, if you change the sd card then wp7 loses its settings and you need to reinstall

The Hd7 will become king of the hill once they crack it wide open, theres little difference between the two of them but the HD7 with its more vibrant screen does look a bit better. I still long for the day someone can get WM booting of an SD card, via magldr that is. however in saying all of that, dispite the HD2s drawbacks i still think it has the edge at the moment, purely because there is little that wont work with it, but least you gave it a shot. Good luck with the HD7

i guess thats one of the issues that has to be dealt with then using an os not designated for the device, there will always be quirks and issues
well if you would have read what your doing when installing windows phone 7 you would have known that this happens.
windows phone 7 doesn't support sd cards, thats why the card is formatted when installing it and you have only 200mb left. the rest of the card is in wp7s discformat and you can use it as your internal storage.
so when you farmatted your sd card to get back your 16gb as fat partition you deleted system files of wp7 that were on the card. that's why this error occured.
if you would read the instructions in the rom threads and the stickies you would have known all this. everything is clear and easy when you inform yourself before starting with something and there are a lot of threads explaining everything in detail.

[Q] Help - Phone can't see sd card

I'd really appreciate some advice.
I have previously rooted my mini HD and tried a few roms but I had a boot problem the other day after a flat battery and I ended up having to restore Windows 6.5 to get the phone to work.
The problem I've got is that although the phone seems to work OK with Windows it will not see any SD card that I put in it...so I'm a bit stuck because I want to install an Android rom again, and without access to the SD card it's impossible?
So, any ideas how I can get the phone to see the SD card?
I have already reformatted the SD card using gparted to FAT32, and it's the same card that was in the phone before. I've also tried a different card but the phone refuses to see it.
Do you think something in the bootloader is messed up...I can't think that this could be a hardware error.
Any ideas would be great!
cheers.

Thanks for your reply iPlasm,
I've tried 3 different SD cards, all working ones, and the result is the same...when I look in settings on WM it tells me "no SD card" and if I try to format SD card using "tools" it also tells me "no SD card present".
Something is obviously wrong with the WM system - I've tried different stock WM roms using RUU's and I get the same result....everything was working fine before my flat battery issue but being unable to recognise an SD card is a big issue for me to get around so that I can root the phone again and install an Android rom.
Is it possible to run Haret from the main device and install a custom recovery? I'd have to email myself the necessary files and cut and paste them using the file explorer on WM unless there is a different way...or is this just barking mad?
Any ideas to resolve my problem would be much appreciated.
Cheers.
Ade
Well.. I don't know what to say.. you were talking about battery, so how about try the old ones?
I don't have really much ideas about that, but i think it should be easy fixing or can be dirty inside the Hardware's SDCard input, you may have to clean it.

How can I root this if I can't use the sd card?

[Q] Can't Format/Write to MicroSD Card

It has been over 2 weeks now with this problem. Both cards are SanDisk 64GB Micro SD Cards...
I've tried accessing the micro SD card in different operating system and yet can't format it...
Used linux, Windows 7 and different mobile phones with different operating systems... All failed!
I am so sick of it need some urgent help to fix these... I can't send them back because i am in Kabul Afghanistan so am stuck with only option is to try fix it..
I can access the files saved on it which means Read ONLY but can't Write. Tried deleting and work! so not sure what is going on...
i tried lots of software on windows to delete the partition or format it in low level or just normal format but all useless
Can someone help out in this regard? I hope to get some proper help...
Cheers
The title most definitely does not say it all. If you have any realistic expectation of useful assistance, you need to give a detailed description of your issue, what you have done to try and resolve it or narrow down the possible causes. And in particular, verbatim error messages, your phone model and firmware version.
You imply that you are seeing some filesystem error message. But it's hard to even know what the ostensible error due to the lack of information in your original post. It's difficult to believe that it couldn't be fixed with a system reset and wiping the cache and /or NAND. In rare cases you might have partition corruption or a hardware fault. But we can't do anything unless you provide specific details.

hm... Not sure whether you have had such problem in past or not as i mentioned it is Dirty Bit problem so i am not sure what else are you after? the problem is the damn SD cards now they are original SanDisk 64GB sdhc X cards i am not sure whether the cache or anything else could be faulty as i have wiped it all... maybe i have missed something but i can't think of anything.
The rom that i am currently using is [ROM][G900F] X-Note TMT v.5.0 NG2 *Floating-True-Multidpi-Touchwiz* [4.4.2]. The previous ROM was AllianceROM_V5_S5_NG2_Final.
I would like to clear that the problem persist in windows and other phones too. I can't format sd cards with android nor with low level formatting or diskpart! so the problem remains the same!
Anyways.. i hope to get some proper help.

Yes you can format a drive with a dirty bit. It should be fixed using Chkdsk - Windows will tell you if you have a dirty bit and offer you to scan and fix. If you don't then it's probably not a dirty bit but either a bug with your system or a faulty SD card. I never said about writing to the card.
Stop being so condescending and you might get more help from others.

well it doesn't format nether can write anything to it ... i tried everything as i said in my posts ChKDSK, format, low level format, alternative methods for formatting using different tools and using hex apps for searching the dirty bit but can't locate. Operating system is Win 7 ult. if it was one sd card then would have been easy to understand and say yeah this should be the sd card but as i have two sd cards and both happen to be in this situation now i dont' know what could be the cause and how to fix.
Both SD cards show dirty as i checked it with the dirty volume command so that's not something i am making up or trying to make my life tough! anyways... i want some help and i am not arrogance that isn't in my character nether i ever been so lets keep that bit aside and rather get some proper help please.

OK, well, your last chance before you RMA them would be to try a Linux Live CD/USB, try and find your SD card using ls /dev/m* to find the mmcblk number, unmount it if needed, and then try sudo fsck -a /dev/mmcblk(output of ls). If not you probably have a duff batch or fakes or just plain unlucky.

I've provided details and if one doesn't know what is Dirty Bit why even bother asking any questions that aren't even helpful? Guess the simple and straight forward answer hurts quite a lot aye? It doesn't bother me when people ask relative questions whether be 1 or thousands but when someone doesn't have a clue what is going on and what's wrong and try to show they know what is going on and can solve the problem and try to ask questions like kids then anyone in my case would reply with whatever i have done.
Am not arrogant or ignorant... i am here to get some help if one can then would regardless of the replies and people like your self else doesn't matter end of the day nothing gain nothing lost...
I know for sure one thing, if i leave this thread to die then one who has problem want to read this thread would like to get some conclusion and help rather than just reading things that aren't worth wasting time on, as one would need help not reading unrelated things!

I am having a similar problem with my sd card.
SM-G900A Galaxy S5
ScanDisk 64 GB micro HDXD card.
I can read all data on card, but can't write/change/delete anything.
Odd thing is that it doesn't throw any errors when you try to make a change or write to the disk.... It just appears to complete successfully, then the files or whatnot just revert/disappear.
Suggestions?
SanDisk SDXC is most probably the culprit!
Considering I encountered this write protect error TWICE with the exact same product, and after having read forums that show it's a common problem, I conclude that the problem is with either this specific SanDisk product or a particular batch of this product:
Exact product specs: SanDisk Ultra 64 GB MicroSDXC Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card with Adapter (SDSDQU-064G-AFFP-A)
These carry a lifetime warranty. A word of advice: if you go for a replacement, ask for a different 64GB model, or try a different size of the same model (I got 2 x 32GB cards instead). If they insist on giving back the exact same model, I'd suggest you use that card anywhere except a smartphone!
PS: Although I encountered this error with my Samsung Galaxy S4, I have reason to believe that this problem could occur with other smartphones too... considering the error pattern and the fact that none of the suggested remedies work (SDformat, diskpart, etc.)
