Hi there,
Since there is a unmount sd card in the settings of android i tried and unmounted it and took the sd card out to put some files onto it.
Well then Android was running for some more seconds, but then got stuck.
I suppose removing the SD card was not the best idea i had. (Even though i thought all the android files after booting were in the internal memorĂ½)
Can someone explain to me what happens when i remove my sd card while android is running?
Is it damaging the file system?
Is it damaging the card?
Is it damaging the phone?
Sorry..have no clue at all
So thought i ask before causing severe damage...
Cheerio
Thats exactly what I have done a few times (I forget that I have to boot into WinMo first).
I don't think it'll cause any lasting damage... At worst, you'll have to start a fresh ROM - But i've not had to yet !
It's certainly not a good thing to do. You are more likely to have file corruption, which of course can be fixed with a reinstall (you might even be able to keep your data.img).
It's also not good for the SD card. Removing it without really unmounting (we can't really unmount on HD2 without nand), increases chances of having your sd card bricked. Odds aren't big, but still not recomended. Your phone doesn't suffer any damage at all though!
ok thanks! Reinstalling the build right now...how would i realize if my card is bricked? not working anymore? loss of speed?
Thanks!
crash... i tried it before.. wasnt funny...

Could be all kinds of problems I guess, but Android would probably just crash after a while and not be able to reboot. Chances are low though, you usually needn't worry.

Hi,
I've been getting the "your sd card is damaged and must be formatted again" notification a lot lately, and was wondering about the cause. I usually get it after rebooting the phone, am using CM 5.0.6, and honestly don't think I am doing anything that might damage the card. Maybe sometimes unplugging the phone from the computer without unmounting first?
Is there any way to know for sure where the problem comes from? Are you guys getting it too?
Try another card. Use the card in another device. Also be sure to unmount the card when you disconnect it.

Your SD card is dying. Back everything up ASAP. I had this happen with an SD card in my G1.

Try formatting the card in a camera, its a good way of recovering the memory card.
I am running cm7 nightlies 120 and Dals 6/30 kernel, but I've had this problem for a while now with previous nightlies. Everytime I boot up my nook I have to remove memory card or else it will freeze after boot. Any ideas?
Yes. You're card has something hosed on it, and for whatever reason the NC is trying to boot from it (when it should not). I had this happen to my first mircoSD, and I wonder if it wasn't something to do with reimaging it several times to flash various nightlys/updates/whatever. I never bothered to track it down as I upgraded to a higher capacity card.
OK. I thought it was something with the card. I will try to reformat it and start from scratch. Thnx for your help.
I am having a similar problem, my nook freezes on startup and shows a little SD card icon that looks like it is exploding then it changes to a exclamation point. It will also do this even after I remove the SD card and try to boot it.
It will eventually boot up and function if I keep restarting it.
Running cm 7.1.0-rc1-encore
Anyone experience this before?
Clean format your SD-Cards or try changing them.

Next time, do indicate you boot off uSD card itself or from eMMC.
Assuming you did boot from eMMC, then remove your uSD, reformat it (FAT32)

I have tried formatting the card, this happens even if there is no SD card inserted. I wonder if it is something I have installed that is causing this issue.

Alright, I think I completed this, I booted up with the clockwork mod and went to /format emmc....is that what you were talking about?
Anyway, the issue still exists, any other ideas? I appreciate your help so far.
Try that first, if still don't work then re-install OS, do a clean installation.
So I think Beautiful Widgets was causing the freezing, I uninstalled it and now when it boots, the little SD card symbol shows up for a few seconds and it does not freeze.
So who knows lol...anyway, thanks for the help
Good

Just looking for some help guys.
A few days ago my phone suddenly dropped from 20mb free space to 4mb and wouldn't stop giving me the warning about available space.
SO I remember this was an issue with people who upgraded to Froyo. So I decided to wipe my phone. after the wipe the phone started rebooting everytime I installed/upgraded an app.
So I loaded up RSD Lite and flashed Froyo on it and the phone now randomly reboots about every 2 mins. I even tried downgrading to eclair, but it just gives me errors when the flash is complete.
So just looking to see if anyone has any recommendations, or is my phone destined for that great recycle bin in the sky?
Hi!
Well, I belive that I may remenber a similar issue some months ago... I dont remenber well how I really fixed and I almost sure that it fixed by reflashing again with froyo, sine this is the only resource that I had to try it out... also seems that when You upgrades to Froyo is not possible to downgrade/return to a previous android version (and it seems that is not only in FlipSide, so seems the same for other Moto models...)
so, by the way, I may suggest... Remove Your SiM and SD memory cards, Put the phone in flash mode an reflash the froyo again, and also backup you personal files from Your SD memory card and erase everything from SD memory card (prefer reformat your SD card) and then when Your phone reboot normal and after an initial setup BEFORE recopy your personal files, AGAIN reformat WITH YOUR PHONE MENU OPTION Your SD card and do an factory restart... may sounds silly so lot of erase and wipes... but in my case, after this such harsh cleanning make my trouble phones working fine and stable again, and after that I restore again my personal files to my SD card.
Good luck and best regards!

THanks, I think you're onto something with the SD card. I remember months ago I had an issue with the phone rebooting if I had this one certain SD card in my phone. Thanks for the help and joggin my memory.
Ok, here's my case laid out. I've searched the forum to death, so I'm pretty sure what I have here is a head scratcher so I'm hoping someone can help me out.
I bought a used HD2 off craigslist. It came with WP7.5. When I plugged in the data cable (i.e. USB cable), I didn't get a prompt for mounting to SD card. I installed Zune and got all the drivers (going through the MS troubleshooting list), and the phone was able to mount to Zune with only 200 mb. No problem, right? This error is common. I find out that if I use an SD Formatter, I can clear the card, which is 16gb, back to it's original state by mounting the card through MAGDLR.
After restarting the phone, I still couldn't get more storage than the allotted 200 mb, except it had decreased to ~150 mb. My phone was filling up quickly. I researched that, under WP7+, there should be a "connections" option under settings for mounting the SD card through the cable, so I thought "Hey, maybe it's because this flash of WP is missing something." so I reflashed my HD2 to stock rom using a guide.
While as a stock HD2 (T-mobile), I had now 600 mb of space on the phone to use, but I noticed that the HD2 still wasn't sensing my card. Bad card, maybe? So I tried an 8 gb I had, a 2 gb I had, and a 32 gb I KNOW works from my tablet (and still works on my tablet). I decided maybe it was the ROM's fault, so I decided to flash android on it, since I'm used to android from my other phones.
So I follow Jayce's guide and put on the proper HSPL, MAGDLR, the right Radio, and CWM to flash a new android ROM and banish my problems once and for all.
PROBLEM, I'm stuck here because (dope!) even MAGDLR and CWM DO NOT SENSE MY CARD(S). Now I'm stuck and I don't know what to do. Is there a way to get it running at the very least? I know the microSD slot is pretty much the most reliable piece on the phone, so I don't think it's broken.... but maybe it is?
So either a) somebody help me get the phone running with any ROM or b) somebody help me figure out how to get the SD cards working.
Sh*t out of ideas here.
[edit] OK! I FLASHED IT USING THE OL' HOLD DOWN THE "DOWN VOLUME BUTTON AND FLASH THE STOCK" Could still really use help with the SD card sensing thing though....
it wouldn't be the first bad sd card slot reported here, so, reliable it may be, break proof it isn't.

I had a bad SDCard too, it doesn't work in recovery but does in the ROM... I think you should really think about replacing your card. Flash memory has a limited amount of writes, so I wouldn't be surprised if you lose your data or find it unusable one day.
I'd really appreciate some advice.
I have previously rooted my mini HD and tried a few roms but I had a boot problem the other day after a flat battery and I ended up having to restore Windows 6.5 to get the phone to work.
The problem I've got is that although the phone seems to work OK with Windows it will not see any SD card that I put in it...so I'm a bit stuck because I want to install an Android rom again, and without access to the SD card it's impossible?
So, any ideas how I can get the phone to see the SD card?
I have already reformatted the SD card using gparted to FAT32, and it's the same card that was in the phone before. I've also tried a different card but the phone refuses to see it.
Do you think something in the bootloader is messed up...I can't think that this could be a hardware error.
Any ideas would be great!
cheers.

Thanks for your reply iPlasm,
I've tried 3 different SD cards, all working ones, and the result is the same...when I look in settings on WM it tells me "no SD card" and if I try to format SD card using "tools" it also tells me "no SD card present".
Something is obviously wrong with the WM system - I've tried different stock WM roms using RUU's and I get the same result....everything was working fine before my flat battery issue but being unable to recognise an SD card is a big issue for me to get around so that I can root the phone again and install an Android rom.
Is it possible to run Haret from the main device and install a custom recovery? I'd have to email myself the necessary files and cut and paste them using the file explorer on WM unless there is a different way...or is this just barking mad?
Any ideas to resolve my problem would be much appreciated.
Cheers.
Ade
Well.. I don't know what to say.. you were talking about battery, so how about try the old ones?
I don't have really much ideas about that, but i think it should be easy fixing or can be dirty inside the Hardware's SDCard input, you may have to clean it.

Tried all of that - still won't see card. This must be a software issue that is beyond my reach.
How can I root this if I can't use the sd card?
