[Q] Cannot receiving incoming SIP calls - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm having a strange problem here with SIP calling.
I managed to access the hidden SIP accounts menu using Nova shortcuts. If I add my SIP account details in there, it actually all works fine, I can make and receive calls.
The issue is that I wanted to test out some video calling via SIP. However, the native dialler doesn't seem to support this. So I tried using some third party apps - Linphone, GS Wave, Zoiper, etc.
In the course of testing I noticed something strange - I can make calls out but I don't receive any incoming calls. This is using the same details as for the native dialler so that I know the settings are good.
Things I have tried so far without success:
Removed all SIP accounts from native dialler
Restarted phone
Checking and allowing the relevant permissions (actually all permissions) for each 3rd party SIP app
Ensuring that battery optimisation is disabled for each 3rd party SIP app
Made sure that enable incoming calls is ticked if it exists in the app
Switching between on the local WiFi network and also mobile network doesn't make any difference
I have tried to install the same apps on a really old android phone running KitKat and it works to receive calls!
On my Note 4, it's running the latest firmware (BTU) N910FXXS1DQC8, Marshmallow.
Has anyone face this problem and if so, have you managed to resolve it?

Have you tried with different clients? Bria, csipsimple, mizudroid ... Check the codecs, stun server, turn server, NAT... and delete data from the client if nothing works. I have experimented this failure sometimes...

Hi,
Yeah I've tried several different apps:
Zoiper
GS Wave
LinPhone
CSipSimple
Voip by AntiSip
They all have the same problem - I can make calls and it works but incoming calls aren't recognised - only by the native dialler.
I also tried at least Zoiper and GS Wave on another android device with the same settings and at least Zoiper it actually as autoconfiguration - you just need the id and password and it works on the older android phone so I don't think it's a settings issue?

Do you mind sharing how you enabled the SIP calls? I tried with Nova shortcuts as well, but I never managed to make it work.

[Q] Bad VOIP/SIP quality with integrated function - Skype is fine?

Hi,
I'm very satisfied with my nexus 4 exept one thing: When I use the integrated VOIP / SIP function, I have a very poor audio quality with echos on both sites. However Skye is working fine (on speaker).
Does anybody know about this problem and how to fix it? With my other phone (Defy with CyanogenMod 10, thx quarx) it is working perfectly fine.
thx
inso
Google hasn't bothered to develop the native SIP client so it's very crude and realistically unusable. It is integrated though, which makes it so appealing.
What you need is a SIP client that supports a packet loss / jitter tolerant codec like speex, ilbc, silk, or even g729.
Skype at least in the past used silk.
You may want to look into sipdroid or csipsimple. I'd love to use csipsimple, but last I used it, there was a nasty loop glitch when using it with google voice
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svCqNEf8k9Q
Thanks for the fast reply. I'll give csipsimple a try.
inso
do make sure to disable all codecs but that aren't packet loss / jitter friendly.
no g711 etc.
yes to speex, ilbc, g729, and to a lesser extent, gsm.
Unfortunately the echos still occured, even with csipsimple. I now fixed it by installing CM 10.1. Just in case anybody else has got this problem.
Again, thanks for your help
I haven't had many problems with it. I had one person say it echoed on their end but no one else. I haven't heard any echoes.
My problem is with trying to use Google voice. If I set the app to use voice for all calls it doesn't give me an option to call with internet. If I don't use Google voice it gives me the option to internet call. I would Prefer to be able to keep my Google voice settings the same but I had to set it to " ask every call". This way I can say " without Google voice" then get the option to use Internet calling.
But I don't want to just select " don't use Google voice for any calls". That would give me the option to use Internet calling every time but wouldnt use the correct number when I don't use Internet calling.

In that case, set Android to always use internet calling, and set GV to prompt. Then if you hit yes, it'll use GV and dial out. If you hit no, it'll use internet calling.
But, I don't know how satisfied you'll be with the native client... Poor codec choice.

I'll give that a shot and see how it works.

[Q] Chosing default dialer/phone app

Hi,
Prior to 4.2.2 Android gave me the option to use a different dialer/phone app as default when making calls (from e.g. a contact card). This could be Skype, or Lynch for instance, the same way messaging allows me to have Whatsapp as default instead of SMS. This option has now gone away which is a huge irritant to me. Does anyone know if there is a way to get this functionality back?
I have a brilliant ap that routes all outgoing calls through our company's cloud PBX (thereby making international calling dirt cheap), but it needs to grab the call as it is being made. It's killing me that ths feature has gone away...
Any help would be appreciated,
M
Working with the latest Omega ROM, (Ver 11, 4.2.2), and I had to choose my dialer (installed Dialer one).
Usually when I working with SIP dialer, it won;t show in the default program, just integrate with the dialer (after dialing its ask you what service to use - phone or SIP).

[Q] SIP protocol/Internet calling

Hi,
Im using a samsung note 4 SM-910G. Im disppointed with the sip/internet calling feature being taken away. Anyone know how to enable this feature that was available on note 3?
I used to be able to make internet calls or voice calls when i tap the contacts.
Thank you
Here too, with the 910C version. Really unbelievable, is a feature of Android.
I'm using the Bria program now, but is not the same. I don't know why but work worse than the standard.
Actually it is there but samsung have made it hidden. There is hidden option to add SIP account. But i think there are nice third parti apps are good like Bria and SipSimple
Still you needs native let me know then I will make simple application that will open hidden samsung option.

Cheers
Here attached SIP Native enabler
Install and open application from drawer. It will open native option to add SIP account.

My phone is rooted. Can you please tell us, what files have to be changed
Found solution, Just download google native dialer apk (dial), After configure your sip account and just uninstall google native dialer you still be able to receive calls, Didn't work for outbound call but if you want just continue using google native dialer.

Why all roms miss native SIP Client?

HI. I wiped out the MI UI system shipped with the phone because it had too many bloatware, but it has a feature that I use since Android 4: native SIP client. It's in the builtin call app, under Settings and "Call Settings". The native SIP client is not part of MI UI, I can find it on many stock Android phones.
But I tried 3 ROMS, all of them miss this feature. The config option is simply not there under "Call Settings". Since 99.9% of my phone calls are made in SIP, I find it an important feature. Is there a ROM that didn't disable this client, or can I patch up my phone?
The 3 ROMs I tried are:
[ROM][AOSP][hermes] Delirium Project
[AOSP] 5.0.2 Hermes [Clean Aosp][Everything except HDR works] 18-10-2015
[ROM]Hermes.5.0.2-LRX22G-NEXUS[19/09/2015]
I have same problem as you. Right now i think you have to use a third party app from Play Store. Or wait till CM12.1 is released for the Redmi Note 2.
I am not an expert about it but why not simply replace the dialer with one supporting SIP ?

Because such dialer either don't receive SIP phone calls, or do receive phone calls by taking additional 50MB of memory and kept the phone from sleeping well. The built-in SIP client, many believe, have the smallest idle footprint.

SIP settings

How do you get to the SIP settings on this phone?
Any ideas?
Still the same problem with Android 8 -.-
I had this option on all Android phones so far. This phone is missing that. How is this stock Android?
Attached screenshot from A1 and Note 3
Same problem here. All my previous phones had this setting but this one has not.
Does it have something to do with dual sim?

No. Xiaomi removed that feature for some reason.
I've found a solution about a month ago, it works well.
install QuickShortcutMaker
click on "Ricerca incrementale" and select "Ricerca normale" (based on the Italian version of the app)
search "sip"
click on "sip settings" and next on the button "Provare" (maybe "Try" in english)
click on the button + on the top, configure your SIP account
uninstall QuickShortcutMaker

Works fine to add new SIP accounts but Xiaomi has removed other things such as choosing which account to use to make the call (works only with SIM accounts): a workaround is to duplicate an existing contact with only sip telephony.
I can not make call reception work. Any ideas?
I have the same problem, and I wonder if should I install another Phone apk that supports SIP.VOIP, and I wonder which apk?

On Oreo 8.1 August 2018 receiving SIP calls works fine for me.
My providers are sonetel and sipgate.
On the Xiaomi Mi A1 it is not possible to configure VOIP / SIP as described:
https://support.google.com/phoneapp/answer/2811843?hl=en
With the help of external tools I was able to set up a VOIP account in the A1
and got it to log into a SIP VOIP service provider.
-Install Activity Launcher from play store.
-Open the app and hit All activites from the drop down.
-Scroll down to Phone Services and open it
-Scroll down to SIP Settings open it
-This opens the settings dialog in which you add an account.
-Open the regular Phone Dialer and open Settings/Calling Accounts.
-Open All calling accounts and enable the account you added earlier.
Let me know if it works for you.

I did it exactly that way: no way to make incoming calls work.
When I enable the account previously added to "Calling Accounts" (Dialer / Settings), the account name is displayed twice while in "SIP Settings" it is written that call reception is not active.
My provider is local (account is created from a FritzBox) and i've Oreo 8.1 with August 2018 patch. (EDIT: my phone is not rooted.)
Thank you anyway

Unrooted phone here as well.
I get double listings as well - as I use 2 incoming accounts, the list shows 4 entries.
(Have you enabled the accounts by hitting "All calling accounts" and then set the respective switch on?)
It seems weird to me that you can't receive calls, as in SIP accounts both my accounts show the notification "Receiving calls".
And of course incoming calls ring fine.
I use these SIP accounts to receive incoming calls to int'l numbers both through my fritz!box 7490 as well as to my mobile when away from home.
Sonetel provides free trial accounts I think. Perhaps you try that.
Good luck!
V
There's an app "Galaxy SIP accounts" which helped me to enable outgoing SIP calls:
It makes my A1 stock dialer to ask whether to place a call through an inserted SIM or through a SIP account.
In other words: SIP incoming and outgoing calls can be enabled on the A1 without going through a 3rd party app.
So Xiaomi - why do you hide the stock settings menus???
After October security patches, dialing out even works better.
Before the latest update, the outgoing number had to be selected twice.
Now dial-out selection is like it should:
Thank you

Not sure when it was fixed (June update?).
