I had the note 3 the battery was terrible and i really thought we'd be getting atleast 4000mah as some websites stated but 3220mah aren't you guys concern? Seems like a joke to me.

I was under the impression that the Note 3 had pretty good battery life... at least that was what I was able to discern from reviews.
Can someone else who also owned the Note 3 chime in?
Watch this and you won't be concerned about battery any more:

This video shows that the Galaxy S5 with Snapdragon 805 and QHD Display doesn't use more battery than the "old" Galaxy S5. So Samsung seems to have found good ways for battery saving.
I am not concern. I plan to get 2 extra battery and a external charger. The Note 3 version was like $30. Whick brand is good? Anker?

You would be correct. The Note 3 Battery life was pretty damn good. I never had issues with it, and if you look over the N3 forum you'll see some pretty outstanding results :good:
I expect the N4 to have been tweaked a little and the battery to be either on par or at least very very similar to the N3.

The Note 3 was widely regarded as having some of the best battery life for any phone of that time.
If anything wall hugging iphone users have something to be worried about with their copycat device, "Retina HD" welcome to 2012 Apple and the battery size, hardly a mention because we KNOW its smaller than Samsungs.
My note 3 has pretty decent battery life. Just make sure to disable a bunch of stuff that you don't need for best results.

since 4.4.2 update WiFi battery usage increased. so i got battery drain...
But i change setting to turn off WiFi when screen off and Battery Life became normal
On Note 4 they claimed for more optimization for power + UltraPower Saving mode...
so we have to wait for reviews and our experiences...
:good:
Even though I was disappointed they didn't include a bigger battery, I'm not concerned about battery usage on Note 4. I don't think they would've made a big deal about battery usage the and better performance on the Note 4, if they didn't have something to back that up. It would've been much simpler to not mention the 7% improvement, or just say they increased the battery by 20mAh. I'm expecting a somewhat better performance compared to the Note 3, which is fine.

The battery is still bigger than the iphone 6+'s and you can always swap it out and with quick charge feature 0-50% in 30 minutes, how long does an iphone take?
It's not how big the battery is, but how it's used. I have Note 3 and I saw as much as 40% drain overnight, when phone was not used at all, right after updating to KitKat and I also managed to have as little as 1% drain overnight, after killing some of bloatware. I can't pinpoint anything in particular, but it could be more than one program. Right now for example Google search is draining my battery more than all other programs combined and I'm not doing anything with the phone at all. I don't want to kill it, since I use it sometimes, but if it keeps doing it I may have no choice. Anyhow if Note 3 is working properly it can have fantastic battery life.
According to what I read so far Note 4 screen should be something like 14% more efficient than older version, despite having higher resolution, CPU and rest of hardware should be at last as good as older models and there should be ultra power saving mode, so I wouldn't worry about power that much, unless some program or programs crash and go bananas, but at least software issues can be fixed, just a matter of effort. For example many claim factory reset fixes excessive battery drain right after firmware update, which I had personally.
If you are concerned, you could always buy a ZeroLemon battery.
Here's the report on Note 4 screen. Remember display consumes the most energy of anything.
http://www.displaymate.com/Galaxy_Note4_ShootOut_1.htm
Comparison with the Galaxy Note 3:
The Galaxy Note 4 is 14 percent more power efficient than the Galaxy Note 3. This is due primarily to a 19 percent improvement
in the power efficiency of the Green Primary channel (materials and electronics). The results are scaled for the same Luminance.
Comparison with LCDs:
While LCDs remain more power efficient for images with mostly white content (like text screens, for example), OLEDs are now
more power efficient for mixed image content because they are emissive displays so their power varies with the Average Picture
Level (average Brightness) of the image content. For LCDs the display power is independent of image content. OLEDs have
been rapidly improving in their power efficiency. In fact, the Galaxy Note 4 is 40 percent more power efficient than the
Full HD LCD Smartphones we tested for mixed image content (that includes photos, videos, and movies, for example)
with a typical 50 percent Average Picture Level, APL.

SOC should use the same power as other Snapdragon 805 powered devices (hint: Qualcomm generally makes pretty power efficient smartphones).
So a quick backstory on my S7 edge experience. This is my second go around with the S7 edge as the first was plagued with bad battery life and sluggish if not defective overall experience. Two days ago I decided to jump my S6 edge + (great phone) for a S7 edge ....again. Wanted to see if something was different as all the rave reviews could not be wrong and maybe I just got a lemon. Well low and behold I again started to experience strange issues with the S7 edge such as:
⏺Bad battery life ( less than half a day with moderate use)
⏺Strange notification bar message (call forwarding for video calls active)
⏺Sluggish performance
What was causing this Strange behavior?.....
Turns out it was most likely caused by a bad car charger which overheated the charging circuit or some aspect of the phone. Must have happened the first time and never realized but the second time I put two and two together. Lesson learned her is if you are not seeing any increase in battery percentage while rapid charging and the phone is getting hot ...you may have damaged the phone and have a bad charger. Currently this is the 3rd S7edge and it is rapid charging cool to the touch.
Hope this helps.

Sir , Did your android system appear on top of your battery usage as well?
I had the same 3 symptoms but I solved my issue with doing a factory reset and starting my phone from fresh, now my battery is back to lasting more than enough for a day, 5+ hrs of SOT average since I did that.
Update: Just wanted to provide an update to this. I ran some very basic tests on both phones at the same time such as browsing, checking emails, a little gaming, etc. And what I noticed was that the G6 actually performed slightly better than the OP5 for normal use, and of course this is more important than a constant video playback test. And based on what others posted below it makes complete sense now why the OP5 seemed to be better in this. (Assuming the numbers were even accurate). But in normal day to day use I am seeing the G6 having excellent battery life. Anyway just wanted to update this so it doesnt cause someone to think I am saying the G6's battery is bad. Original post below.
Hello XDA. I just got a T-Mobile LG G6 and LOVE IT, except for one issue. Battery life. AOD is off, and always has been. My other phone Ive been using before this is a Oneplus 5. Ive been trying to decide which phone is going to be my permanent phone and love the G6 over the OP5 in almost every way except for battery life. I ran some basic tests just to get an idea of how they compare. Now I know that the G6 has a 2K LCD display and the OP5 has a 1080p Amoled. But I didnt think there would be that much of a difference since a lot of people said that the difference as far as battery life wouldnt be that much.
So I went into the tests expecting the OP5 to a bit better. But I didnt expect the results I got. The short result is that the OP5 had 20% more battery after running the below Netflix test for 2 hours. I ran the test again the next day, this time for 5 hours and the OP5 had 55% more battery left than the G6. The average percentage loss for the G6 running Netflix was 10% every 30 minutes, while the OP5 only loss an average of 3.25% every 30 minutes. When checking the battery usage to see what is draining the battery the most it is definitely the screen. On the G6 it accounted for 34% of the total loss, and on the OP5 it was only 13% of the loss. So maybe the 2K vs 1080p screen is the culprit after all. Like I said I expected it to be a factor, just not a 21% difference in the total usage between the G6 and OP5.
I also know that my OP5 is running 7.1.1 and the G6 7.0, but as far as I know the main difference between the 2 versions is Doze, and I have Doze off on the OP5 due to a Gmail sync issue. And I also know that a simple Netflix test doesnt really represent what kind of battery life I can expect from normal day to day use. Anyway basically what I want to know is does this seem normal, and when the G6 gets 7.1, or 7.1.1 will that improve the battery life enough to hopefully be better than this?
Like I said I REALLY like the G6 in every way, except the battery life. And Im not giving up on it. So if there is some hope that the battery life will improve that will definitely make me lean more towards keeping the G6 over the OP5. Anyway thanks for any input. Below is some more details on the test results I got. And Ive attached a screenshot of the battery usage with it at 11%, down 8% since the Netflix test ended.
LG G6 vs Oneplus 5 (2nd Netflix drain test)
Netflix Streaming Test at 100% Brightness, no other apps running. No Sim card in either. Both had same settings toggles on also:
LG G6:
Started at 100%
After 30 mins 92% Lost 8
After 60 mins 83% Lost 17
After 90 mins 72% Lost 28
After 2 Hours 61% Lost 39
After 2:30 mins 52% Lost 48
After 4 Hours at 40% Lost 60%
After 5 Hours at 19% Lost 81% (55% more drain than OP5)
Average of 10% loss every 30 minutes (About 6% more loss per minute)
Oneplus 5:
Started at 100%
After 30 mins 97% Lost 3
After 60 mins 94% Lost 6
After 90 mins 90% Lost 10
After 2 Hours 87% Lost 13
After 2:30 mins 84% Lost 16
After 4 Hours at 80% Lost 20%
After 5 Hours at 74% Lost 26% (55% less drain than G6)
Average of 3.25% Lost every 30 minutes (About 6% less loss per minute)
Just wanted to add an update. I decided since the main drain from the G6 was the screen that I would try the test again, but this time adjust the screen brightness on both devices so they look as close as possible. When I had both set to 100% before the OP5 was quite a bit brighter. So this time I had them looking as much the same as I could. The test results were much different.
Oneplus 5 after 4 hours of Netflix had 65% left.
LG G6 after 4 hours had 46% left.
Although its still 19% less than before, its a lot better than the 40% difference from the previous test. So Im hoping by leaving the G6 at a lower brightness will help improve the battery life. And of course hoping that 7.1 also helps. Anyway just wanted to update this. Thanks
Anyway, i think that is not a fair comparisson... OP5 has 1920x1080 screen and G6 1440 x 2880, at least for me, 5 hours of screen is totally awesome, but if LG do something to extend the battery efficience would be great
The OP5 has an AMOLED display. The pixels in these displays actually create their own light. They consume no power when they are black, low power when dim, and quite a bit of power when displaying bright or white content.
LCD displays like the G6 use a backlight with a panel in front that blocks the light from getting to your eyes, creating an image. They have consistent power consumption that is completely determined by the backlight level, the image itself is irrelevant.
TV shows and movies tend to have pretty low white level, so AMOLED displays use very little power most of the time. Switch test to browsing where there are tons of white backgrounds and you would probably see the LG catch up or take the lead.
Edit: Also have to mention that the OP5 is using a pentile subpixel layout. This means that instead of each pixel being made of red green blue sub-pixels like the G6, it only displaying either a red green or a blue green for each pixel. So not only is the OP5 displaying less than half the pixels that the G6 is, it's only showing 2/3 of each pixel.

I'm not sure how you achieved these numbers, but i suppose it's not accurate, specially those on #1 post.
Assuming OP5 has 3,25% drain every 30 min is like saying it has a screen-on time of 15+ hours. No phone could ever get this with actual tech.
Great battery phones, with heavily modded kernels and roms, helped by wakelock limiting apps, could achieve about 8-9 hours max with screen turned on.
So, my guess is that it could be some kind of battery trick on OP5 side (not showing accurate percentage, for example).
Your second test is more feasible, but i really think it's still too much for both phones (about 7,4h SOT for G6 and 11,4h for OP5).
Please don't take it as a criticism on your tests. I'm just saying here that your battery is lasting as expected for today standards.
G6 does poorly/average in these constant playback tests but overall in normal use it manages to do well. Whatever case, in my kind of use, it does really well
Does the G6 have wifi scanning turned on?
OFFTOP: How OP5 and LG G6 screen compare? OP5's AMOLED is PenTile so not really fullHD. Is the G6 much sharper when displaying small text etc? I dunno which one to consider buying
About differences in battery -> remember G6 has older, more power hungry SOC. And it has to much more work thanks to bigger resolution. I would say difference is actually quite small having that in mind and LG did great job of optimising its software.

Im not sure how I got those numbers either. I just wrote down and noted what I saw. The fact that they looked to good to be true, and that there was such a discrepancy between the 2 was why I ran the test again. And it wouldnt surprise me if Oneplus had done something to inflate the numbers. I dont know if you read about it, but they were caught again "cheating" benchmarks by forcing the phones to run at maximum when they detected a benchmark app running.

So Ill update my post above so people dont think Im just trashing the G6. After more testing, and normal use it seems to have excellent battery. So Im not sure why there was such a difference in the video playback tests. Anyway thanks for all the responses!

This makes complete sense. Especially after my recent tests where I turned the brightness down on the G6 to match the OP5, and when I ran normal tests that I explained in my other posts. The G6 actually performed slightly better in normal use such as browsing, checking emails, etc.
Abnormally high screen on times are not uncommon in video playback tests while on WIFI. This is due to the lower brightness required (low average white level), lower processor utilization (due to hardware decoding), and no interaction with the screen (due to the processor not jumping to max frequency on screen touch).
Hey guys, my s10 plus battery wasnt that great out the box I was averaging 4:30 sot that's with alot of spotify 1 hour of YouTube snapchat all day and all the social apps, I recently changed it to wqhd and not only my screen looks better my battery life is much better I'm now getting 5:30-6 hours of sot it seems like Samsung optimised the display for the battery where on my s9 plus wqhd was draining more battery but it seems to improve battery on s10, just seeing if anyone's had the same experience
Hmmm.. Let me try that. I've only used FHD on my S10 since I got it.

Nope, that was just coincidence. Changing to WQHD+ will not improve battery life. It will reduce battery life by a very tiny amount. You must have had something else happen at the same time.
This is why comparing battry life with others is pointless, because there are just too many variables. As you have found, you can't even compare battery life with yourself without getting onconsistent results.

No reason it should take weeks to settle in. My first full day on the s10+ was 5.5 hours screen on time and still had 49% left after 16 hours. Currently on 40 hours off charger 7.2hrs sot and 17% left. This battery really is amazing but will always vary between users. Can't see how wqhd could do anything but hurt battery life but I'll run it tomorrow just to see what happens.

Thats insane. 5.5hours sot with almost 50% battery left? Surely you have turned off LOTS of features / adjusted brightness and various settings?
For me to achieve that i would need to use the phone at almost its lowest brightness and disable background activity, turn off auto sync, bluetooth, and pretty much anything else thats a battery drain!

I don't think I have that much disabled. Brightness is on auto and is often pretty bright, power saver is on medium so background data is disabled along with auto sync because I don't need push notifications. I have bixby routines turn on auto sync when charging at night to sync anything that needs it. I use Bluetooth in the car and for headphones at the gym. Probably 6-7 Bluetooth hours on that screenshot. Not much WiFi since I'm never home. Location on. Don't use bixby itself because, well, who does? It's pretty effortless really. Especially compared to my note 8 where it's nearly dead at 5 hours sot.
I'm upped the resolution on my S10 plus from the beginning and getting anywhere from 8-9 hours sot. Way better than the iPhone 10s Max I had! A lot faster too!
With a week so far of using the S10 I've gotten equal battery life with FHD and QHD. About 4.5hrs SOT and 15-19 hours up time.

Ah you have battery saver mode on. It works magic to extend your battery life. It gave me good life on my S9+ when I had it. But my logic is why did I have to have battery saver on to match the battery life that I got on my 1+6 and Pixel 2 XL?

Yeah. I've always used battery saver on every phone I've had. I'm kind of a battery life junky and when battery drains fast or when idling it bothers me. Some reason I got better life in my note 8 without saver on though. Helps on my s10 though and easily outlasts my wife's pixel 2 XL. It really all just depends on the user though. 4.5 sot is still a respectable time in my opinion especially for heavier users and about what I got on my note 8 and had no complaints. Difference now though is that I can use the s10 HEAVILY in one day and it won't die whereas my note 8 would have been dead hours before and would need a boost late in the day.
I bought this phone from a friend, he warned me the battery life is horrible and that hes replaced it twice already.
Factory reset after purchase, wasnt too bad, ive seen worse. This week though it started what I feared. Today lost 40% battery while at work, never touched it once, no apps running, restarted before leaving the house. I even kept the sensor covered so no 2nd screen, but 6 hours of not being used, not even a call or text, I pick it up and see 60% remaining...
I'll buy a new phone before i buy 10 batteries.
Suggestions much appreciated!

My V20 has terrible battery life also, sadly. Now I am using the Mi Max 3 which I only have to plug in once a week. I bought a spare OEM battery for my V20 and the battery never charged. I love the V20 for it's camera and the quad DAC. I can't use it as a daily driver tho due to battery going flat rather rapidly and it can't be rooted to test kernels.
I had terrible battery life and thought it was one of my batteries as i have 2, but it turns out that its the software i was running oreo but downgraded to Android 7 and the battery life is fantastic. I have tried custom roms but they are missing camera and fm radio apps which i use. Hopefully if we get Android pie it will have a better battery life.
