General rooting question

Was just wondering, is it safe to root my Galaxy Note 1 without having a SD card inserted?
I will say my internal memory is 2GB.

Wrong forum, but yes, it is as safe with or without card.
PS:

[Q] SD Card is blank or unsupported filesystem error

Really frustrated with the "SD Card is blank or unsupported filesystem" error.
**** Samsung for screwing up my experience with a 700 Euro phone.
I recently bought a Sandisk 32GB microSD which I am trying to use with my Note 3 N9005.
I am on stock Kit Kat 4.4.2 and rooted via towel root and updated to 4.4.2 a month ago.
I can read and write to the 32GB microSD from my PC (I copied 29GB of data on it to transfer to another PC).\
So the card is fine.
I have tried FAT32 and exFAT.
A 16GB Sandisk microSD from my S3 does not work with the Note 3 but works on my S3.
This 16GB was working on my Note 3 before I upgrade to Kit Kat.
Any help will be appreciated.
With the 'unsupported file system' SDcard inserted, can you format it through settings --> Storage --> Format SDcard?
Formatting it through a PC is really not a good idea for an SDcard meant for a phone.

The Note 3 says that it is formatting the card and then the same error message appears.
(The same card can be read in the S3 & PC)
I also did a clean up of the card with diskpart before inserting into the phone again. No change.
Also tried the to read with a Patriot Class 4 4GB microSD.
Same behaviour, it can be used in PC and Samsung S3, Note 3 does not read or write to it!

Hm..... Oh, and if you format it in the S3? That helped once on mine.
But if the 16GB card worked before you updated, and it doesn't now, it might be a software issue. You could try a reset (Best through recovery, wipe data and cache), see if that helps.

Well... can it read the SD-Card?
No.
You know about all those KitKat SD-Problems and disadvantàges but well... FILE SYS ERROR?????
I don't think, that that could be but it's KitKat's fault!

[Note] MicroSD - Can use 128GB

I know the official specs only state that the ZF2 only supports a 64GB MicroSD card. I have tested a 128GB without any issues.
Everything loads up fine, no problem. The screenshot is a 128GB card with 69GB still available. It's just loaded up with various things.
(I didn't see this posted anywhere, so I figured I'd let everyone know)
:highfive:
Good to hear I have a 128 arriving tomorrow from B&H w/ my Zenfone 2
Awesome, time to order an 128GB for my phone!

128GB Micro SD Card....Do They Work?
Yes it can
Yes it can, you can see an interview with an asus guy that sayS and shows a zenfone 2 running with 128gb of sd and when they asked him how? He said that they can not officialy anounce it,
Propably because of lisence issues, maybe it was cheaper to get lisense for 64gb or sonething like that but good thing is it supports,
I found the video search for "asus zenfone 2 interview newegg.tv"
I can confirm 128 gig card works. I have it partitioned for around 90 or so gigs of fat 32 and 20 or so gigs of ext 4.

Hi guys.. I use Solid Explorer and it obviously needs Grant access to write to the external SD card. When you try to copy something over from the app (Internal storage) to the SD card, it will prompt you to select the storage in the next window but the ZenFone 2 does not show the External storage on the left side to select. Any ideas? I can post screenshots if it helps understand the issue better. I could do this easily with a 32GB card but not the 128GB or is it because of EXT4? Should I format it to NTFS?

I have the same problem. Really hoping this gets solved in an update.
Me too I cured it by saving data to stock file manager app then it worked on solid explorer after that
Thanks, can you explain how a little bit more please kindly?

I couldn't save anything through solid explorer or open anything so I used file manager to save files and for some reason it fixed solid explorer and it started working I do not know why

By "save files" you mean copying from internal to microSD using the Asus files app or by setting the microSD as a save location from some other app?
Yes

to fix external sd storage. just download SD Fix by jrummy from the market and run once. Used to fix restriction on my rooted KK 4.4 smartbox and now on my new zf2. all apps can have acess now.
Well good to know about it
Every time I turn the phone on, it shows a notification that SD card is detected. Anyone else?

Yep every time
FYI the issue is fixed with the latest FW update pushed today. Now Solid Explorer detects the external microSD. Hooray!!

128 GB Samsung
I started using a SanDisk Extreme 64GB UHS-I/U3 card that I had used in a previous phone, but kept on getting errors where the ZF2 would say that the card was removed -- this would usually happen about 8-10 hours after the phone was restarted. I assume that there is some sort of timing issue that causes the phone to "lose" the card.
When I saw that the ZF2 can use 128gb cards, I tried a Samsung 128GB EVO UHS 1 - Class 10 card and haven't had a single problem.
Both cards are formatted exFAT. ZF2: ZE551ML Z00AD WW_2.17.40.12

Is that 128gb legit?
- judging by the reviewers of the seller it looks like the 128gb only holds 7gb

More storage space

My daughter has not enough space on her Tmobile Grand Prime 8GB, but her SD card is 64GB. What can I do to add more space without rooting the phone? I know 6.0 has adoptable storage but she is on 5.1.1 right now. Thanks in advance.
You cannot do much without root about thr storage space. But the thing you can do is go to setting application manager or storage then application and select a desired app and chose the option move to sd this will move part of the app to sd card
Do you have a rooted grand prime? I haven't rooted in years but I know how to do it.

Send me a screen shot

SD Card shows wrong size/Free Space (double) 128 >> 256 GB

I have an old Lexar microSDXC 633x UHS-I 128GB (previously used in 5 other Android devices)
I opted as internal storage.
It shows up as 256GB and free space calculations are cuz of that messed up.
External Apps can either see the onboard or the internal memory (not both)
Should I be worried? (Or how I can test its all working good?)
Can you try formatting it once from inside the phone and not the computer? Be sure to take a backup first

Not sure it would make a difference.
I already did that. It would not let you use it as Internal Storage if I did not Format it first.
And you cant take a backup of internal SD. IIRC it will not be usable and apps that had data there will be also corrupted.
A couple of options. 1st is to try a cleaner like ccleaner and see if that sorts it by cleaning the cache, last resort is a factory reset which has worked before now. The other thing is that it could be either a fake card (possibly) and/or damaged but the last is highly unlikely.

Tried ccleaner. Factory reset I will try only if I see any issues.
And ehm... no ... the card that I bought in a normal shop and used for many years (as I said) is not fake or damaged.
Antutu reports all correctly, so this lets me to believe its just Xiaomi or Oreo issue.

Hmm weird that it is showing 256gb as the phone specs only allow up to 128gb. My guess is the card itself as I have a 32gb in mine and it shows up fine.

Man, I'm having this exact problem but with a 128GB Sony UHS-1.
This should be a bug in Oreo.
I have the same "issue" with a brand new 64 GB Samsung SD card. And: before updating to Oreo, the storage capacity was shown correctly. So this seems to be a bug in Oreo. However, I don't find any other comments on this on the Internet, so it's probably limited to the Mi A1?

On the same Oreo version I had no problem with 64 GB Samsung Evo plus but found bug with same type 32 GB card. Not native apps shows correct size but Android says that it's half of memory occupared by system files
My wife's A1 has a problem with SD card. It doesn't format either as storage or as internal memory. It's a original Sandisk 64Gb UHS-I. She used it in her former Moto X Style and I formatted in a LG Pad 8.3 without problems. I took a crap SD Card and it formatted as storage without problem in A1.
I am experiencing the same problem, this is still an issue. If anyone has an idea for a fix, please let us know.
Yes, same problem with a genuine Samsung EVO Plus 64GB SDXC card. Shows up as 128GB card with 64GB used when formatted as internal system storage, but as a 64GB card when formatted as "removable" storage. So it's a phone-specific bug in some way.
Same here, my phone is 32gb, installed a 32gb sd card and format as internal, now its show total 96gb and the card is 64gb with more than 32gb used.
I think it add internal onto sd card and show that 32gb is already use, which mean its show 64gb sdcard but actually we get same useable amount.
Btw its still show correct available free space so its not a problem.
Hello ! same thing here with a samsung galaxy s5 sm-g900f on resurrection remix oreo 8.1 with four differents card : size 16 gB on esxternal memory , 32 GB on internal memory and also for 128GB it goes to 256GB on internal memory
just want to try with android 6.0.1 with the patch which unlock this feature https://forum.xda-developers.com/samsung-a-series/general/patch-adoptable-storage-enabler-t3470648 and its not good either. i can see the right size of the phone 16GB , the right size of sd card 119 GB but the sum above show: 256GB
I do have the same problem with my LG G6 and Samsung Evo Plus 128GB memory card.
If any workaround, please post.
But it doesn't affect the functionality, it works as intended. But when I see the storage in settings showing odd numbers.

I have the exact same problem. Same SD card. Although everything seems to work okay. Btw. I am on Android Pie.
In Solid Explorer the internalstorage isn't even shown. Only the SD card. Unlogical since the SD should expand the internal storage.
Imho a major f*ck up.
How can you trust your phone if the storage info is unreliable. ?
I have the same problem. I think it's a bug. See here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ra...al-storage-t3782347/post79349711#post79349711
Hi,
Any news about this bug ? I have the same on LineageOS 16.0.
