Customs roms for Xiaomi Mi Note 2 - Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone, we already have Lineage OS and Resurrection remix on our Mi Note 2, what other roms would you like to get ? And I have a question for devs, do you think it's possible to get S8/S8+ rom on our Mi Note 2 ?

I'd be interesting in hearing if there are roms that people are crying out for. Moving between Lineage and RR is very straightforward but most other roms are going to take some time, so having an idea where people want that time invested would be very welcome.
As for the S8/S8+ rom, I'm not sure that it's open source, and without source it's not feasible. Modifying their stock rom to work is beyond practical. There's significant difference in snapdragon and exynos architecture, the S8/S8+ kernel is based on a much more recent version of linux, and presumably makes use of new features and this is all before getting to device level. It would be a great rom to have though! If you know of a rom source that's similar and flexible then I'd be happy to take a look.

Any developer Alive? Why there is no Custom roms for Samsung A7 2016 (SM-A710F)??

Yes, please!
Anything but the boring Samwiz.
Let's keep this thread alive, so it may have some visibility.
i don't know why no developer make any ROM for this fantastic device yet. i have been using this device from the day it release and i am still in love with it........ Developers please do some thing i really need a change of ROM for my love(device)........
Agree absolutely! I have a lot of issues after uprading to Kitkat and then Mashmallow, with each upgrade introduced more serious issues rendering the dual SIM always on a useless feature. Really tired of Samsung ROM.
By custom roms, I assume you mean AOSP roms... Well, our samsung A7 & A5 2016 has exynos soc (except the A7100 & A5100, both has snapdragon I think). Exynos is somehow closed-source which means AOSP roms created for exynos devices are full of bugs because of missing source for the CPU. That is why less/no developers build AOSP roms for exynos devices.
In short,
exynos = closed source
closed source = no developer interest
no developer interest = no custom roms
sad
Rom Found
Finally i find a rom for A7 users :good::laugh::silly::victory::highfive:

Samsung's source code for Exynos is both dated and incomplete. Making AOSP or LineageOS ROMs using the source code is difficult. So difficult in fact that many developers stopped developing for Exynos devices altogether. So Exynos is a bad choice if you want AOSP or LineageOS. That is why the bulk of the custom ROMs for Exynos are Touchwiz ports.
Making a device for Qualcomm Snapdragon processors is far easier, as Qualcomm provided all the source code for the CPU. Since all the source code is present, an AOSP or LineageOS ROM is that much easier to build.

I don't think the problem is about our exynos CPU.
galaxy S5,S6,S7 also have exynos cpu and they all have LineageOS.
I read a post in S5 forum. The first dev make CM 12.1 for S5 said that exynos in S5 is the most terrible. But it have LiOS now.
I think our dev is move to another phone is the reason.
@But_Hacker: It's an established fact developers moved off Exynos on the S4 years ago due to lack of source code as well as documentation. What you're seeing now is not related but is simply because the S4 turns 4 in April, 2017.

Man, s2 and s3 is older than our device and they have CM or L os in android 7.
I think i will have android 7, soon. In this year.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4 using XDA Labs
I don't ever recall saying it was impossible, just very difficult. The simple fact of the matter is you have to have developers to do this stuff, and a lot of them refuse to work with Exynos for the reasons noted above.
I personally don't have this problem as my roomie's SIII and my S4 both use Qualcomm processors. Just lucky I guess.

Well i see you post below. You means S4 exynos dev is difficulit because of source code and document.
But S5, S6, S7 now have many document ? that is why they have CM or LineageOS for them now ?

On Exynos or Qualcomm? I don't haunt every Samsung forum, especially as my current device is a Nexus, so what those devices have or don't have isn't something I pay much attention to. I do know however that the documentation, while still incomplete, had improved for the S5 - S7.
I do believe the JDC Team may be able to attempt LineageOS on the I9500. But you'll need to talk to them and get them an I9500 for development.

MiUI Nougat Port Thread

Hi XDA
As u know, xiaomi has released nougat for mi max which has exactly same hardware as our device,so it seems not to be hard to port it.
To all devs, discuss it on this thread.
Thanks to all.
Hmm.... I have no real knowledge of this, but I think there's no point in doing this. There'll be too many issues. Keep in mind that custom N ROMs don't have working camera blobs, so a ported MIUI N ROM would also have camera issues. It's possible that Xiaomi will release MIUI Nougat for our device since they'll already have a working chipset, but we'll have to wait and see.
Until Xiaomi releases for Kenzo I would definitely try out a port if someone can do it
This is a bad thread. Only thing same with the mi max is the GPU and SoC stuff, which has already been ported. Also, this is the wrong section for this.
Its of no use.pls close it.as @minz1 said
I was thinking of porting when the rom was released. Managed to downlod, extract and came to my senses.
It's pointless to waste time on that. Even if mi release nougat, i may just try to get camera blobs from it.
Rest in peace miui.

Official ROM Builds for Le Pro3

I've seen a lot of new ROMs popping up for the Le Pro3. This is excellent as it's such an underrated device, especially the X727 variant in the US.
I notice that all builds are unofficial versions of a few popular ROMs. Is it possible that any existing developers will create an official build for our device? How can we go about spreading the word and hopefully getting official support of ROMs such as LineageOS, etc?
This would really help to bring more developers to LeEco and open the door for new projects and improved unofficial builds.

I think devices have to be popular enough to get official builds. I'd love to see a Carbon ROM pop up here soon.
Jep, can recommend Turbo's Rom, pretty cool

whats the difference between the two maintainer and builder?

whats the difference between the two maintainer and builder?
there are a lot of nougat roms but they are all not official...as far as i understand because there ie no maintainer. but there are builder. so whats the difference.
almost every s model including the minis have official nougat
Maintainer is a developer, somebody that actually knows programming and also has some experience with it. He or she is the one that fixes device specific bugs.
A builder is just that, somebody that builds the ROMs. Anyone can build a ROM, it doesn't require any programming knowledge.
And there are various guides on how to do it too, you only need a Linux system with decent performance, otherwise it might take some hours only to build one ROM zip.
The Maintainer job is purely a voluntary one. So somebody has to volunteer to become the Lineage maintainer for the S4. But this is not all. He or she also needs to be accepted by the Lineage team, because they don't just take anyone. You need some experience for it.
Another reason we have no official Nougat is because there are still some bugs (such as the reboot bug) and the Lineage team doesn't accept that from what I heard. Oh, and they want cleaner code too.
So yeah, I don't know if he will have any official Nougat any time soon, if ever.
But just because we don't have official Nougat doesn't mean we don't have developers. We still have some people that do some developing for the S4.
