Turbo 2 not charging via cable - Droid Turbo 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Turbo 2 isnt charging via any cable anymore. It might connect for a minute but then stops charging even though the charging icon has the bolt.
It does charge via wireless charging but its very slow.
I know that this is a problem with this device and have tried searching but haven't seen a solution. So it seems to be a hardware issue with the port or connection to the battery.

The cable may be off. Qualcomm's system is very dependent on good connections at the USB 2.0 edge, along with good cabling. It's very touchy about that even if it's functioning right. This is even with their wall-wart.
If no cable coupled with a properly licensed Qualcomm QuickCharge 2.0 or 3.0 power device (Wall-wart, battery brick, or Car charger...) has it going into anything other than USB charging and an old-school fast-charger won't put it into at least AC mode, you've got a defective Charge Controller- which equates to needing a replacement. Lenovo's been...coy...about the whole thing with a HUGE thread over on their forums over the whole affair. You'll need to have something resembling a warranty (which includes the "insurance" on the phone that Verizon offers...) and explicitly show them the fail with several devices. Going into AC charge mode doesn't count. If it's the wall-wart or any QuickCharge device, it needs to go into Turbo mode with 60% or less charge. It can go into Turbo mode with more charge in hand, but it's not required by the spec for anything more than the 60%.
If it doesn't go into Turbo mode at all or show AC with a QuickCharge device of ANY kind, they have to own that the thing's broken/defective and work with you at that point.
---------- Post added at 02:34 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:31 PM ----------
Between this (on my second phone, exchanged just within Warranty) and the fact that they won't allow any unlocking of this phone, I'm quite a bit less than happy with Lenovo right now.

I took my Turbo 2 with this issue to Verizon and they replaced it with a Moto Z Force Droid for free. Granted it was a refurbished one, but I welcomed the upgrade. You should probably talk to your local Verizon store, not just a Verizon authorized dealer.

Charger not working properly

Lately I've been having issues with my phone and charging. It started with the stock OEM charger getting steadily harder and harder to use.. so I bought an Aukey charger to replace it with and it completely refuses to work on my phone, so I tried another phone and tablet and it works great. I tried my super old Galaxy note 2 charger with a motorola usb cable from my maxx and it works fine... I then tried that usb cable on the aukey QC 2.0 charger and it won't work... tried the same cable again on my phone with the sammy charger and it worked... tried a QC 3.0 aukey wall charger and it won't work... yet I have a QC 2.0 incipio car charger. it was working with the USB moto cable I've had in my car since I got my Bionic... then it just stopped charging my phone, got a new USB and it works great now except the moto usb will work for friends, just not my phone.
I have absolutely no idea what's causing this... I thought maybe there was lint in the charging port so I took a tootpick and cleaned it out, got a small piece of lint, same thing with all the chargers. I can't find anything online, and being a tinkerer I've tried everything I can think of before asking. I'm starting to think the phone itself is having problems and the port is actually bad or there's something wrong in the software causing it to have problems with turbo or QC chargers.
any ideas?
There is a general inconsistency with this device and Quick Chargers... if you look in the Accessories area there are several threads discussing it.
Personally, I use the Aukey QC 2.0 charger for travel with an Eversame premium braided cable and it works fine, yet others use the same combination and it won't Turbo charge or in some cases charge at all.
I also face the same issue. Some USB cables work with my Moto X Style and some doesn't .
i am having an even worse issue and i am sure its a software problem, recently my moto x stopped charging using the moto charger so in the last two months i have 4 different chargers who worked for some time each now it just doesnt work at all, i have cleaned the port numerous times then it just stopped working so when the phone finally died all of a sudden it started charging but as soon as it switched to turbo mode the charge would stop and start over again. i have deduced its a software problem as once the phone tries to go to turbo charging mode it cant sustain the charge and cancels it. amphere even shows its discharging while on the charger , however if it starts charging while the phone is off with a low voltage adapter and turn on the phone once you dont remove the cable it will charge (extremely slowly but it will charge).

FYI... There is no software problem with charging, if there was it would affecting hundreds of thousands of people. And I doubt you have 2 software problems, a bad kernel and a bad bootloader/recovery image, because 2 different things control charging when powered on and powered off.
Issue here is you likely have a high resistance connection somewhere between the USB port and the battery itself, or a bad charging circuit... It's hardware.
while i can understand where you are coming from when the phone is in factory mode (motorola customer care told me to try) its charging fine also turbo charging is working now just it doesnt recognize the sim card. it was a suggestion from Motorola customer service desk, as i live outside of the us they gave me some options to try. they said it was a software glitch where the phone may have gotten an overload from a bad connection and caused the phone to not recognize the charger. however while the phone is off this check is not performed which is why i was getting a lower amp charger to work as the phone did not have to enable the protocol that allows for quick charge/turbo charge voltages.

Samsung Galaxy A5 2016 ( SM-A510FD ) Charging Issue

Hi geeks. Im using Samsung A5 2016 phone. Now, my phone takes 6 or 7 hours for a complete charge. My phone is capable of Fast charging. Its not there too. In spite of Fast Charging, my phone should have normal charging capabilities right? But No. My phone charges as if i have connected to a laptop/PC. TOOOO Slow. There is problem with battery discharge. Only charging matters. I tried different cables, different adapters, official adapters/cables... Nothing worked. When i go to Battery in settings, its showing "USB Charger connected". But im connected to Wall charger, not a PC/lap. I think its a software issue, i don't know. Please help me guys.
Have you tried to factory reset the phone?
---------- Post added at 12:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:05 PM ----------
Also, you should try using another chager. Maybe your charger / cable has gotten faulty and doesn`t output he right voltage. Also, use your charger with another phone with the same model as yours. If it works on another phone, either your charging port has issues, or you have software problems.

Quick charge no longer working since nougat?

So I have a couple of generic QC2.0 car chargers in my car and wife's car.. I've had them a year or so? They work fine on my note 4, and they did work on my my S7E while on MM.... I've noticed since the N7.0 upgrade they are no longer "quick charging"? The option is set on my phone, and it does quick quick at home with the wall wart but not in the car anymore?
Anyone else notice this since the nougat update?
I had this happen in my car after the last mm update... cleared cache, hard reboot, and pulled the charger out and put it back in. One of those fixed it. Probably the cache/ reboot

I'll try to report back, I tried the root method available for nougat and thru all the tinkering I fubar the phone. So I had (wanted) to wipe, factory reset and did a completely fresh clean install of N 7.0 nougat. So fingers crossed.
Well, I did a complete factory reset and fresh install of Android 7.0 Nougat, but my car charger is still no longer quick charging my S7E on N. I don't know the make and model of the car charger I have with qc2.0, it's not a Samsung branded one.... I wonder if android 7.0 changed something on how it recognizes the qc2.0 chargers? The house (samsung branded) still work but the car ones do not.

I would be suspicious of the cable more than the charger itself. I've had multiple 3rd party cables that (for lack of a better term) seem to have got "fried" and would only allow standard charge speeds. Switching cables resulted in fast charge working again. Your phone itself detects the current as soon as you connect the cable, and if it isn't able to draw what it needs to fast charge - even from a QC charger - it won't.
FWIW - none of my QC chargers are branded. They're all Anker or Aukey.

That's a good point, I'm using the cable that came with the charger... its a good solid cable, but you know that goes I will try another cable - that's a good idea. I'll report back when I do. Thanks for that suggestion.
I had problems with fast charging not working until a reboot or leave it unplug for a few minutes then plug it back in then it works flawlessly

Since the new update mine and my partners s7 won't fast charge, we both have official samsung chargers, we've even tried family members chargers and still the same, I've been in touch with samsung and they just told me to factory reset the phones which I did and still doesn't work, hope it gets fixed soon!!
Absolutely check the CABLE as the culprit. I have an old 6ft Belkin micro usb 2.0 cable that only fastcharges half of the time I use it on my Aukey QC2.0 adapters. I suppose a few factors could be in play here: oxidation buildup on the terminals, worn wiring insulation due to heat and/or bends. Maybe I'm drunk. Lol
Forgot to update. I've tried a few cables none allow quick charging on the car adapter. They do charge at 2.0amp and those same cables will charge quick charge in the house.... So, either my car adapter has suddenly stopped doing quick charge or something mysterious has happened to my specific S7E.
I'll have to try with my note 4 in the car and see what happens.

Mines dont quick charge either. Now how the heck do 100k a year coders miss this? They had to knew
Was gonna start a thread about this issue a couple days ago. Been having issues with fast charging ever since the update. I would connect the charger, it would say fast charging but revert to normal charging. Sometimes it would say fast charging for the duration but be slow as balls.
I found that shutting my phone down and charging it that way does a fast charge fine however.
I wonder what changed? At least in my case, I have 2 QC2.0 car chargers, from different vendors... one is from ebay the other I bought at Fry's electronics - and neither will quick charge now. I guess whatever handshake happens to enable quickquick isnt present since the nougat upgrade oh well... I am glad to see others are having the same or similar issues - at least I'm not crazy.
Mine still fast charges on my qc2.0 vehicle charger after nougat. *shrug* ill post a link to the one I'm using in just a sec...

wireless fast charging not working.
Since the security update my wireless fast charging does not work on my samsung wireless charger. if i unplug it and plug directly into phone it fast charges fine. anyone else having that same issue? fast charge works fine with car and battery backpack fast charger too.
Erider
fast charging works with my car charger and at home I use the factory charging brick and cable which also works fine. I also use a wireless Samsung fast charger but I haven't checked it works on that being I only set my phone on there before I go to bed.
I had issues with Quick Charge right after Nougat update, Just got my SM-G935T from T-Mobile last Friday.
To fix it I had to clear the cache and disable and reenable quick charge under system battery advanced options. and everything started working fine again.
I also had issues with wireless charging on a stock Samsung "Fast Charger" and ended up having to replace the usb cable from the power adapter to the samsung wireless 'fast charger' it seems after the Note 7 issues, samsung put some quality control software in the nougat updates for the S7 and S7 Edge, and if there is anything slightly off things won't work because of the new samsung QC steps.

Go to Settings (COGWHEEL ON NOTIFICATION BAR)
Then Select "DEVICE MAINTENANCE"
Then SELECT "Battery" bottom left
Then go to "Advanced Settings" using the drop down menu at the top left (... vertically)
Toggle "Fast cable charging" turn it off reboot phone then turn it back on.
You can also just type "Battery" in the settings search then go to "Advanced Settings" that way.
wiping cache, disabling, reboot and enable didn't work on mine. Seems its doing it no matter how or where im charging it now. it says fast charging but it's not if you look at the amount of time its taking (approx 20 mins per 10%)

Turbo charging not working

I am using moto g4 plus since 1 year. Now my phone shows 'charging' instead of 'turbocharging' when connected to charger. It is taking about 8-9 hours to full charge. I am confused why is it charging slow.
Whether it is charger issue or phone issue.??

Do you have a turbo charger?
Device model xt1643
Build no. Npjs25.93-14-8
I am using the official rom and kernel and using the phone as provided by the company.
I am facing the issue since 7 days. Sometimes it charges only to 20-30% overnight.
I measured the amperes output of charger with the help of an application named amperes. It shows 250-310 mili Amperes.
Please help me out

Something similar happens to me, but it was because it damages the entrance, if you have not damaged the entrance, try changing the cable to one of the same quality
Try a different usb charge cable. The wires can break or almost break - then a slower charge. 250-300ma would indicate to me the cable is damaged. (or the charger or the usb socket on the phone)
Preferably use a high power cable then you might get the turbo charge message. If you don't have another high power - just an ordinary one - you should still see the charge time reduce (if it is the cable that is damaged)
If nothing changes try a different charger (even an ordinary one) and see if the situation changes.

Previously when i used ordinary charger it always showed "slow charging" on screen.. but now its showing "charging".... If my turbocharger is faulty then it has to display slow charging with the ordinary charger. Whether it is usb port fault or any other hardware on my phone.??

Hardware fault can cause such things too as mentioned above. Try to change the parts like cable and charger.

The same charger is working fine on other phone.
Today i visited moto service centre. After diagnosis they told me that my charging port is defective. And the cost is 1850 rs.
I think it could be fixed at 200 in local market.
Whether it will be worth to spend 1850 rs if my phone is out of warranty.

I'm having the same problem since last 1 week. Turbocharger doesnot charger the phone instead regular charger does. And rt. now I'm using a non-turbo charging capable cable with the Turbocharger to charge my phone and the charging speed is awfully slow.
So, can you please tell me if replacing the charging port worked? And I want to know if there is some hardware issues in my phone.
Hi,
I have recently unlocked my bootloader..
But from then it is not showing turbocharging mode when it is connected to the turbo charger and usb cable provided by company. So what should I do solve the issue???

Unlocking bootloader won't touch the charging behavior in any way. Charging heat and excessive usage of the device reduces the charging current.
So cool down your device and make sure you don't use it while charging can help. It's all about the heat(also the cable, port etc.).
I am having the same issue.
My moto g4 plus is showing USB connected when I connect a turbo charger for charging. Clearly it is the issue of the port since no other chargers are even detected and I am getting turbo charging at some specific angles by trying plugging and unplugging several times. I have took my device to a service centre and they are asking motherboard replacement for this issue. I can't even understand why there is a need to replace motherboard for port loose contact issue.

Turbo charger problem

When I put my Moto G4 Plus on the turbocharger, it keeps alternating between charging and not charging, and doesn't gain power. What is going wrong?
Recently I lost the turbocharger that came with my Moto G4 Plus. For the past month, I have been using ordinary third-party chargers which work fine. I got sick of having to wait 3 hours for my phone to charge and bought a Samsung turbocharger (15W) at a local store. When I try to charge the phone with this charger it keeps starting and stopping the charging process. Charges for a second, disconnects, charges for a second, disconnects etc.
Some added complexity; the phone is from the US, the charger is European. All my other (non-turbo-) chargers are also European and work fine.
Any ideas?

Check cable, grime inside the ports, connectivity. Temperature should be below 40°C.
Otherwise it could be a hardware problem of the phone too.

I checked the charger on another phone, and it seemed to be charging as normal. When I plug it into my phone it also charges, until the "TurboPower connected" message pops in at the bottom, at which point it immediately stops charging, then starts over again. Other chargers work fine, if slow, so I am going to assume it is not the micro-USB port. The battery temperature is 28,5 C. That leaves the hardware problem.
I have two issues with that diagnosis. First, it is remarkably coincidental that that problem occurred in the month that I lost my previous TurboCharger. Two, it leaves me with quite little options.
That is for me to deal with, however. Thanks for your time.

The phone negotiates the charging current and voltage with the charger to determine if turbo charging is possible or not. If some environmental variables didn't match within time it falls back to slow charging.
Those variables could be:
1. Any electrical resistance within the cirquit that drops voltage(cable for example or other connectors/components)
2. Temperature(not in your case)
3. Software failure of charging logic circuit or hardware failure
4. Something other? Don't know yet...

Yeah, I saw a lot of posts complaining about slow charging with TurboCharger. I thought my problem was different since the TurboCharger doesn't slow charge the phone, but stops the charging process altogether (after which it immediately starts back up again).
I'll see if I can get it repaired and get back to you on which of the four options it turned out to be.
Cheers
