Hello. I have been on the forum for days searching for answers for the sprint variant, which is hard to find solid proof of it working completely on gsm. Now for the verizon variant. If I buy a verizon variant will it work fully on GSM carriers like at&t?
Plus can it be fully converted? Including radio, to the US unlocked version? I have done it in the past with the at&t m8, converting it to unlocked variant with s-off, cid change, and ruu. I see tutorials saying to flash unlocked version to then reflash verizon radio. Will it work with unlocked radio? Or is it the same as with the sprint variant, where it always needs sprint radio?
Thanks for any help.

The unlocked HTC 10 is compatible with AT&T and T‑Mobile Networks.
The verizon variant can be converted to unlocked, read here

Thanks. I had read that forum, but since the guide posted says to flash verizon radio, I was wondering if you could leave the unlocked radio. After reading various posts afterwards it seems it is posible to not flash the verizon radio (keep the unlocked radio).

Correct, you can fully convert to Unlocked without flashing anything Verizon afterwards. Im using my Vzw 10 on a gsm network, converted to unlocked.

Thanks. I will look into buying the verizon variant. Did you also have to sim unlock? Or will flashing the unlocked version ruu take care of that? I truely doubt it, but I can not find any verizon unlocking service. And the only 10's I can find are locked to verizon.

Verizon 10 is not sim locked. You can take it, in stock Verizon form, and insert a gsm sim card and it will work. The real benefit of converting to unlocked is to have direct updates, have access to more lte bands, and best of all not have Verizon's bloated OS.

so, I've surfed the forum looking for answers, I did find many conflicting answers but no firm ones. I am considering the TMO variant so I'll have 4G connectivity in the US and 3G where I travel frequently to in Europe. Assuming the TMO note 3 is SIM AND bootloader unlocked, can I flash international firmware on it while keeping TMO's modem settings ? I will only consider the TMO variant if this can be done, otherwise I think i'll sacrifice the 4G connection and get an international variant as usual.

If you are paying the full price for the phone, it wouldn't matter where you get it from, it WILL be sim unlocked. my question is, knowing that the phone is SIM unlocked, and assuming it will be bootloader unlocked, can I flash any international firmware on it ?

I don't see why not since Tmobile/ATT version is identical to the Euro S800 version, as long as you keep the Tmobile modem. My at&t S4 is identical to the euro version and I can flash any euro ROM. Just hope it will be bootloader unlocked .

umm negative. Apparently our carriers suck like that. For example, t-mobile which is generally more lax than ATT will not unlock your phone until you've been with them for 40 days (or is it 4 months?) but yeah. No immediate unlock even if you purchase outright. I think you'll have to purchase it from someone else that explicitly states it is sim unlocked. Negrielectronics was a good example.
Has samsung announced that they will unlock the bootloader? was the s4 with locked bootloader also?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Verizon may be the only one with a locked bootloader.
I actually don't know... if it's only verizon then that's cool.. i am going to buy the unlocked carrier version.
edit: seeing no custom rom, I thought the bootloader was locked
Yea, I'm pretty sure it's just the Verizon model. Every other model has plenty of roms.

The bootloader is already unlocked. On my phone and most other S5's as well. You are apparently making some assumption about some particular S5 variant. A minority of carriers do lock bootloaders, but you didn't even tell us what model of S5 you have or are referring to. You should give some context so that we know what you are talking about.
edit: I see that you implied in a follow up post that you meant Verizon. The bootloader on a Verizon S5 is locked at the behest of Verizon, not Samsung. Samsung doesn't lock the bootloader for TMobile, Bell, Rogers, Telus or hundreds of other carriers. Pretty much just Verizon and ATT and a few sundry CDMA carriers that are that restrictive.
There are tons of custom ROMs for carriers that are more reasonable. You can use Safestrap to emulate a limited number of ROMs on Verizon but it's your choice of carrier that is hampering you here.
.
ok thx guys I am getting the unlocked/carrier free version .. so should not be a problem thx
Since theres no straight forward answer and the guides seem to be all over the place i was looking for a straight forward answer.can this be unbranded to like the dev edition or something else?

Here is about all I can find from someone reliable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68150390&postcount=866
--To me this says - it should be fine to flash the full US Unlocked RUU/firmware, which is x.xx.617.x, I think the latest is 1.91.617.1
I personally have flashed the pmic-8996-1.img from multiple firmwares including, International, US Unlocked, and Tmobile testing out WiFi drain. So, some bits are ok, but the aboot.img (bootloader) contains the partition, so anything other than VZW or the US Unlocked could result in a brick.
Until someone takes the plunge and reports back, or unless their are people out there whom have done this but not seen the posts asking the question. So hopefully if they are out there they will see this thread and comment.

Reviving this to ask a related question:
Can I safely flash the latest U.S Unlocked radio to my VZW 10 which has the latest VZW firmware?
If you flash the unlocked radio you will most likely lose all your verizon features such as volte and so on I would not if you use verizon services. For what purpose would you want to may I ask ? If you want to run your Verizon version on At&t or Tmobile there are threads on both I believe, but you should have support for other carriers already I believe as I think you will just get a non Verizon sim message is all but AndyBones can direct you on how to remove that nag.

I'm not actually using the phone on Verizon network, I bought it second hand and using it on Rogers network in Canada. Everything runs fine including LTE, but reception is weaker than on my M7 (purchased from Rogers) hence my wanting to try the U.S Unlocked radios to see if things improve. Similarly voice call quality is not that great though it has improved with the 1.82 firmware upgrade.
I don't mind testing out the radio myself, just need some assurance about being able to without bricking the device due to firmware mismatch or other incompatibilities. As pointed out in this thread very little information exists out there from people who have unbranded their VZW 10s or flashed non-VZW radios.
Have you tried running the latest RUU for the Verizon HTC 10 ? This may fix your issue if you have not already. Also I think on another thread Dottat posted a method to reset your bands of some some if you look on his thread for being able to use the unlocked 10 on Verizon he has it posted on there I believe. Resetting the bands or modem has worked for some people with issues with signal.

I'm not having an "issue" per se, I just want to see if I can get improved reception with a new radio, so I don't think an RUU flash would change much (I have already reset my modem for a separate issue).
Thanks for your help, I'm hoping that andybones or another dev can answer my question about being able to flash a non-vzw radio safely.

Is Rogers a CDMA based carrier (I legit don't know). You may need to do an entire us unlocked swap, not sure if anybody has tried that yet with a vzw phone.
No Rogers is a GSM network but my VZW 10 works fine on it.
If by debranding you mean to convert it to US Unlocked version, then Straightforward answer: Yes. You don't need to read further if all you needed was a yes or no, but I felt I should post what I did to convert it to US unlocked from Verizon for others who might need help.
Verizon 4G LTE devices are already unlocked. So, just to be sure, I S-OFFed my device first via sunshine. While S-OFFing, I chose the option of S-OFF with locked bootloader. Then I changed the CID to BS_US001. Didn't have to change the MID as it was the same as US unlocked version, i.e. 2PS650000. Flashed latest TWRP (for nand backup just in case). Flashed US unlocked RUU 1.8X.617.X. Successfully updated to 1.96.617.2 via OTA.
One thing that I immediately noted after converting to US Unlocked version was that the option of OEM Unlocking which was previously not present in the Verizon version became available in the Developer Options. Hope it helped.

Hi GrimJoke,
Thanks your post! Since I last posted here I've managed to do exactly as you described and ran the Unlocked RUU, updated to 1.96. Now running stock ROM and everything works great, and in fact the phone runs better than it did on vzw software.
I've noticed the same regarding OEM Unlocking. I read from Captain Throwback here that we should now be able to unlock the bootloader with htcdev and with superCID 22222222. I won't try since it's pointless for me.

how about from Verizon to complete wwe using wwe radios for international gsm network?
does volte work with tmo, att etc after gsm?
I have a verizon v20 with the dirty santa unlock bootloader and i noticed that it reads the device as a US996 so I'm thinking I can try to flash the US996 KDZ and convert it into a official US996. and have a unlocked bootloader from the start. Do you guys think this is possible?
Does anyone have a US996 KDZ. I've looked for it but I couldn't find anything.
Even if you were able to flash it, US996 uses gsm networks, and since Verizon uses non-gsm network and radio utilities, it would be pointless, as you would get no service.

That's not true. The US996 supports CDMA bands. You can buy one outright and start using it on VZW by just popping in a sim. There were a few people here that did that because they didn't want any carrier branding/bloat and the ability to unlock the bootloader (before DirtySanta was available).

as Artimis said, they both are CDMA/GSM phones.
But even if that was the case, im using it on T-Mobile, not Verizon.
Does the Sprint variant work with Ting GSM (essentially T-Mobile towers) if you SIM unlock it following the SIM unlock tutorials? Or would it require more than that? I looked on HTC's site and its shows the phone has all the same bands for the Sprint version and T-Mobile version. Does anyone have a Sprint version working with Ting or T-Mobile?

I believe it does if you change your cid and flash it to the unlocked firmware. There are threads everywhere on how to do this, make sure to check the un-carrier branded HTC 10 xda site.

I run a Sprint device on T-Mobile. Works perfect with the exception of WiFI Calling which I am currently trying to get working.
Simple way is to unlock SIM NV method, load custom recovery, load latest Viper ROM, on AROMA pick the proper base install MM or N and Choose T-Mobile for carrier and that's really it man. the LTE bands are already all there, reason why I say Viper after the unlock is because other people including me had trouble getting data to work on stock Sprint MM. Flashing Viper solved that beautifully.

The only thing that sucks is you will be missing WiFi Calling which to me was a little annoying. I have tried everything, I went as far as S-OFF (kinda of a waste of $25) installed multiple firmwares (T-Mobile stock with Sprint radio, etc), different rom's, so far nothing, it seems tied to the actual us unlocked/t-mobile radio which as we know isn't compatible with the Sprint variant. On the plus everything else works including VoLTE.
