Hello, i bought my z3 4 months ago and im happy with the performance except for the battery life. I was thinking about going back to kitkat so i can have that 2 days battery life but i have never flashed a rom or done anything similar. So i want help. Do you think i should go back to kitkat or should i put another rom?( i wish i could get oxygen os but its impossible)
Thanks
I guess you have Marshmallow .291 firmware?
What device id exactly D66?? ?
If D6603...
(locked bootloader and you don't want root) get Marshmallow Concept .3657: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69273678&postcount=1962
It's the latest and last Sony ROM for Z3, security level October 2016. Great battery life (ForceDoze works great) and really stable (yes you get the Sony apps from the store).
(locked bootloader and you want root) get Lollipop .264, like my DE: https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/d6603-xperia-z3-23-4-1-264-customized-t3259252
For me the battery life is disappointing on their "official" MM, going from 6h Screen-on-Time on 5.1.1 to barely 4h on their "final" firmware .291 is really bad.
Just checked and yeah i have the 291
How do i get the good version? Do i need to format my phone and flash it or is it like a normal update?
Also just checked i got the d6603
So is there a nougat version? Cause i really like the looks of the nougat

There's a nougat version for D6603 but it's a custom rom and needs an unlocked bootloader. It's called Lineage os 14.1 by Nailyk.

Plain flash with FlashTool, you will wipe everything so backup (pics/documents/etc) to a PC first.

There are the Developers Previews, but I can't recommend them as daily drivers:
* latest DP4 has a killer bug (whenever it switches Wi-Fi off it will reboot)
* while DP3 is not full SDK24 yet, had even issues installing apps
You can get that Nougat look if you have root on 5.1.1 with Xposed + Android N-ify for the quick settings (get latest build #827 here) + this nav bar.
(in Android N-ify remember to enable "fancy anymations")
/LE: keep in mind that whatever I'm saying above you don't need an UNlocked bootloader.

I think i have around 5 to 6 hours on screen on time on a normal day, but for example when i watch a video i could lose 10% in 5 minutes some time. Will i see a big deference with the Marshmallow Concept .3657 ?

Read my results, from my experience yes, but as you wish, I know it's painful to setup things back, test, etc.

Where are your results? I don't mind setting every thing up again. I m a bit afraid of the process. Also how much better will be my battery life? This is my biggest concern.

(I mean 5.1.1 firmware .264 or Marshmallow Concept .3657, have great battery life)
Again, this depends on your user case, I can't swear you'll see this exact difference.
The flash process is simple, too simple, my biggest gripe is setting apps again, stabilize my workflow, and use the device as usual for 2-3 battery cycles ( 100%->5%) to be able to judge that on a fair ground. (eg. while installing apps, copying files or rebooting, the battery drain is bigger, that's not to be accounted...)

.291 is the last official one.
You can get root on Concept .3657 if you have an unlocked bootloader. It's the last one from Sony but it's not "officialy supported" blahblah, it's just "concept/test", use it if it works.

I need to update to Kitkat cause there are too many apps and options I can't get
But I'm afraid of Kitakat problems many people have mentioned like battery drain and other issues
So I need an assurance that the problems are fixed by the firmware that LG has released like D80220C or so
Can anybody help??
And another question about LG PC SUITE:
Does it provide the phone with the most recent update directly without updating to 20a then 20b then 20c and so on??
And If yes does that mean I can wait and use it to update my phone from JellyBean to Lollipop directly??
My phone started with 4.4.2 20E firmware so I cant comment on performance compared to 4.3.
I will say however, that 20E was good and 20H is even better. Coming from the Nexus 5 running 4.4.4, I suprised what a good job LG have done with Kit Kat. :victory:
Why not make sure you have the 4.3 image as a backup before you update to KK

The updates from your specific carrier may end at 20C but I am using LG stock image which has gone onto 20H. Battery life on 20H is very good indeed. My best is 103H of standby with 2.5 hours of SOT, (as I'm a light user.)

Stopping at 20C may have something to do with your carrier and country. My phone was on Vodaphone in the UK and came with 20E. I de-branded my phone by installing the LG 20H firmware direct from LG. :victory: (this is differnent to unlocking your phone!)
I also made sure I had the original Vodaphone 20E firmware before I flashed the LG firmware to let me go back should I require. 20H is so good that I dont need to.

Yes,It's the country I got the phone from supports it until only 20C
I just want to update it to a stable version in Kitkat and doesn't matter for me If It's the latest update or not
The problem is that I'm impressed with the phone's battery life and I would lose my mind If the update to Kitkat makes it worse

I suggest you do your homework and learn how to flash the various stock roms with the LG flash tool. (I'm not talking about rooting etc here!)
Once you've found the current rom you are using, (to save as a backup incase anything goes wrong,) you can then flash 20C or 20H to see if you are happy with the battery life. Just remember to judge over 3 or 4 cycles as the 1st is always excellent, but the 2nd is always rubbish, (In my experience.)
As you have your backup, you can always go back if you arent happy.

I will TRY to resist the TEMPTATION to NOT install the lollipop directly when it gets available, maybe wait 2 weeks for other people to tell us if it is better or worse.. especially if it it is Android 5.0 and not 5.1...with said it will be very hard to resist to not install it directly.
Maybe that is for mediapad x2, and new p8 support, those have lollipop. So I dont think we will get update soon.

Let's just hope for the best. They may release the update after mediapad x2 and p8 is out. Its most likely be based on their updated versoon of android. And we may get a better one because they will testers for our update.
What I would like on the update is the tap to wake up function. I don't like using the flip cover. I like cases or bumpers and its easier if you can just tap to wake up.
Guys you really think u will be happy with 5.0 ???
BET with me once it will be avail. and u install it u'll be rolling back !
Did u been considering that u MIGHT NOT be able to root phone ? OR install custom recovery ?? You didn't right ? heh .. yeah
Well .. u might be surprised I just plaing with LG G3 which I had installed 5.0 and 1. There was no possible to root G3 ! only now recently released root program .. so so it is rooted
BUT
Not possible to install custom recovery (only in very difficult long way)
Xposed not working YET only by flashing another dificulty way ..
So no support at all .. devs. keeping slowly up .. but ..
Do u think somebody gonna bother to get all this working on huawei phones ?
Let's see.
But remember once again .. u will be rooling back sam eas I reverted G3 back to kitkat .. no lag at all..
For G3 all it needs is to downgrade to kitkat, instal custom recovery, than flash cm12 lolipop, all of this take max 25 min, not complicated at all.
Maby updating to lollipop will not relock bootloader, so flashing custom recovery will take 2 minutes, and flashing super su trought cwm also take one minute, so we can have lollipop and root very easy. I am waiting for lollipo because CM 12 rom, not for update with emui 3.0 on the top because everything will be the same as now.

And I said that I already downgraded.. to kitkat... this morning..
xposed works on 100% LG G3 tweaksBox , TWRP latest works 100%
NOTHING properly works on 5.0 ...
No mate there is no any unlocking or relocking bootloader.. like in huawei phones... and no there is no any CWM ONLY TWRP is made for G3...
Yeah there MIGHT be CM based on lolipop .. but again with so many buuugs not workings.. so best to stay on 4.4.2 for now..
And u said all be same no point ..
Don't understand what some ppl thinks when they see higher number 5.0 . or lolipop it it is gonna be better... aahh well
From Lolipop i expect only better battery optimization, nothing more.

Won't happen, TBH.
Not much chance the first LP release will be smooth, you would be best hoping huawei used their brain & made effort on bugfix & improvements on JB & move on to LP once revisions/improvements been done by google team to LP.
I think the biggest disspointment will be a lot of functions that we associate with Lollipop will not be included...
Will we get new multi tasking view ? Probably not.
https://cdn3.pcadvisor.co.uk/cmsdata/reviews/3585263/Android-lollipop-review-multitasking_thumb.jpg
Will we get Lollipop notifications view ? probably not
http://offoindia.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Lollypop-3.jpg
I think depressingly enough the biggest disappointment will be that it will be impossible to see the difference between current kitkat (that looks little bit like Lollipop already) and the new lollipop release, I think they will mainly try to make it look exactly like the old kitkat. I say this because of the latest Huawei tablet with lollipop, we must expect something similar...
What I hope though is improvements under the hood... Better performance which means better adjusted cpu cores how they throttles up and down..
right now there is microlag a lot...
I hope even faster and more smooth animations (if the GPU can handle it). Right now I have fastest animation setting .5x in developer options, but the problem is with the fastest setting it does not run as smooth as one would wish, but as it is now I prefer the fastness with some micro stutter to painfully slow animations which make me unproductive.
Batterylife I hope it can be improved a little bit even though. The androi system still use more then it should so I think there is potential..but still it is the modem that drains most of the battery...and software improvements can't make much of that .

Depends on your skill set and willingness to learn how to mod one apk to do what you need multiple modules to do, and how concerned with security you are.

Here is my personal .198 ftf, it took me a few days of searching on the web to find this one when I bought mine. Xposed is more than worth it to be on MM anyways.

XperiFirm still hosts a MM .198.ftf knowing that we need it, or see the post by kekistaneerefugee.

Mine is 1304-8441_R3D. I'm not sure if it was the last one, I only used it in order to be able to backup my TA partition then unlocked my BL, used POC to create a kernel that uses my TA partition to restore DRM functionality. Then I flashed TWRP 3.1.1 and used SuperSU to root.

And you're on Marshmallow now?
I'm just not feeling like going for Marshmallow due to a bug at 7.1.1, since our devices will get more updates as the time goes by, which means there are chances we're seeing it fixed.

No, I'm using the latest 7.1.1, .228 rooted Nougat. When I come to sell my X Compact in the next week or so when the XZ1 Compact drops I'll downgrade to MM again to unroot and relock my BL then update back to N.

You're the boss haha. I'm afraid to void my warranty for now. I'll just wait for Android 8 to make my volume output good again. In case it doesn't I'll give Marshmallow a try

Ha, I'm just experienced with Xperias. Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, Arc, Ray, Sony Xperia Z, Z1 Compact, Z3 Tablet, X Compact, everyone rooted or had it's bootloader unlocked and never had an issue with any that required a warranty repair.
Not saying it can't happen as I have seen a few instances over the years when others have had to, but it's a small percentage and doesn't warrant being so overly cautious during, imo of course.

By the way, don't you have any issues with your sound volume at your headphones?

Always happy to try and help. I don't use the headphones at all but the speaker volume was an issue before I increased the mixerpaths xml, it's perfect now though.

I'm on the opposite side of you. I mostly use my headphones and I'm just fine with the speaker's volume.

controllerboy's guide. But if you don't need root I'd advice you to update to B09 and stay stock. Oreo comes in April anyways.
If you will unlock, install maybe Slim4 or just B09 with jojoc battery mod

I will try to find how to root but i will wait for oreo update. I just got this phone and i didn't put sim card, because i have another phone.
Greetings everyone,
I have been using a G4 Plus (indian retail unit) since 2017 and was on Nougat for years now. The phone never got Oreo for me. I tried using this trick from the thread to successfully upgrade to Oreo. Now, ever since the upgrade, I haven't had any issues apart from the battery. On Nougat, I used to get atleast 4.5 hours on screen time and 5 at max usage. I'm a moderate user. I charge the phone early in the morning. Now, it has been reduced to 3 hours 42 minutes on an average. I have my GPS Turned off, Screen Brightness and everything related adjusted. And the figures above are without battery saver. I don't want to downgrade as I like the Oreo UI and fluidity of the OS. The phone heats up at points when CPU usage is a bit high. Not a huge issue for me though. Anything I can do fix the battery life?

If you have upgraded with method 2 you most likely upgraded the bootloader too hence downgrading to nougat and downgrading the bootloader bricks your device. If you don't downgrade the bootloader it should work correct @echo92?

You need to skip the bootloader when flashing with fastboot.
But wait for echo92 to confirm :highfive:
