Android O Public Beta opinions - Nexus 5X General

Today I installed the Public beta version of Android O, it has a really nice redesign and some cool new functions, but, how is the performance?, I would like to share with you my experience, and hope you guys can share your experience here too.
Im going to be direct:
*Notification sounds are delayed
*Ambient display just work tapping two times
*Recent app lags
*Clean data option (on storage) is gone.
*Slowdown in some apps (guess just have to wait for an update)
I did a "wipe cache partition" after install the update, I didnt clear the data from storage cuz the option is gone.
New info: 05/24 (or 24/05 from spanish people)
For those that are having a really bad experience with Android O this could help:
I dont have a USB-C to Standar USB wire and I really wanted to make my phone works better, flash a stock rom is not an option for me today, so I did this (do a proper back up and do it under your own risk)
*Back up everything.
*Unroll from Beta
*Downgrade to Android N (that implies lost everything)
*Config the device as a new one BUT dont log in your google account, just connect wi-fi (that implies LOSE APP CONFIGURATIONS and Wi-Fi passwords)
*Regist your device to Android O again
*Wait for the update and install it.
*Configure the whole phone, apps and everything (remember, if you config it as a new device before going back to Android N the device will not download your previos configuration as settings config, apps config, wi-fi saved passwords etc etc.
I did it and Im still configuring everything but the phone works better that the first time I installed Android O through OTA without wipe the phone.
I will keep testing the phone in this way and I will let you guys know if it really helps in long terms (I mean, if next week the phone still works fine means that all the effort worth it)
PD: Just one thing, if Ambient display doesnt work for you, just, turn the option off, then On, and then power off the phone (power off, not a restart), turn it on and thats all.
NOTES: Going back to Android N could cause some stuff stop working like, rotation, gps, etc.
If you do a factory reset in Android O that could cause a bootloop, be careful and just try it IF you can flash the phone (remember the USB-C to Standar USB wire, my phone didt came with one...)
IMPORTANT:
If you went back to Nougat and found that stuff like GPS, rotation etc was not working, here you have a solution that allow you back to Nougat without those problems.
In Android O:
*Unroll from Beta program.
*Install the downgrade package
*Start your phone loging in your account but disable everything and dont restore your configuration. (Just use your account for go to the main screen)
*When finally you get the control of the phone DO A FACTORY RESET (from settings)
*This time configure averything as you want (restoring apps and configurations) and thaths all!, try to test everything and this time all will be working as always!
No root, no flash, just doing that

I installed by flashing the factory image. Device feels a lot sluggish when opening app drawer, recents, App info. I read various comments on Google+ that their device feels snappier and fast than Nougat but it took them a while before device gets settled in. So, I will give it a few good hours before judging on performance.

same feeling but still usable

Runs amazing on my device

takes ages to take a shot with hdr on

Things I've found not working:
1. Lock screen app resets after phone is turned off or restarted, and has to be selected manually again
2. Force activities to be resizeable in developer options not working
3. UI lags more often
4. Picture in picture more not working ( at least for me)
*I'll add more when I find

Yes it is working fine.

The reason for the UI slowdown I think it is because recents preview images are bigger (more resolution).

It's quite good for a beta.
- Some UI lags
- Sometimes apps load a little slower than 7.1.2
- Picture in picture doesn't work for now (Only for youtube red users right now)

I've noticed the battery charges faster when the phone is being used compared to 7.1.2

For picture in picture mode
Use the hidden navigation bar tuner in SystemUI Tuner. Add a navigation button and select the button type to be “keycode” and look for keycode #171. Once you’ve done that, your navigation bar will now have a button that, when pressed inside of a supported app, will toggle PiP.

bootloop !
hi my device stuck in bootloop after update on google Logo
but recovery mode is working , i wiped cache and data and now stuck in android boot animation and restart
my device is dead?

Some differences I've noticed in comparison to the 1st dev preview:
* Notification tray redesigned again, I do not like the lightgrey tone, but the layout of the elements does feel abit more mature compared to dp1.
* It seems more stable, less lags - altough animations seem to lower in framerates at some moments, triggering the Recently Used function delivers low framerates always (Project Butter failing?)
* In the 1st dp, the Sense 7 keyboard I use would crash, works again in dp2
* Images are misaligned in the Telegram app, I do not notice this in other apps, but everything was alright in the dp1 regarding this.
* Not sure but I feel like the Settings app has some additional icons, still not complete though. Some titles in the Settings.apk now also inherit the accent color.
* The LTE icon is now displayed in full, the wlan icon is shown with disabled status in the statusbar if its disabled. The muted sign has returned.
* Notification icons in the statusbar seem to have a wrong top-padding, so they misalign ~1-2px
The PiP mode should come available once the YouTube app gets updated with the feature, it's just that the api was made available with this release.

Try reflashing the factory image with fastboot. If the device was dead, it would bootloop in the recovery aswell.

20/04 is the beta image, give it a try. So far it's pretty good and has stabilised on my phone after an initial few hours of sluggish behaviour.

Westcrips v8.4 Ressurection -> Discussion

Post updated to reflect current version.
OK.. I'm mainly posting this here because my PC is too low to post in the dev thread.. and I think its best to leave that thread to dev discussion...
First impressions:
Installs quite smoothly and pretty fast.
My install method (in case its needed later)
- Back up and copy to pc
- Complete wipe to stock gb. Root gb and install cwm
- Copy ressurection 8.1 zip to SD card
- Reboot to cwm
- Format data/cache, dalvic cache, system and battery stats
- Reboot to cwm
- Select resurrection 8.1 zip and install. Takes about 5 min
- Reboot to recovery and factory reset (probably not needed but did it to be safe)
- Reboot normally and let system boot up. Takes 3-5 min on first boot
Now on to the fun stuff... on first boot I set up language, clock wifi account etc.
I selected and only use nova... I like it better than trebuchet.
Gmail notification crashes Google accounts right off the bat. This is persistent throughout 3 installs. Seems to work fine after initial crash.
Once SD card scanning and such finishes, i disable fast dormancy (*#*#9900#*#* for menu) thenI reboot normally.
Open market, works fine.. install some primary apps... titanium backup & pro key.. better battery stats, root explorer and LCD density monitor pro.
Set dpi to 160 to give me better screen real estate.. then reboot normally
I'm about 11.5 hours on battery and 83% battery with light to moderate use.. I disable mobile data stuff unless I need it, and generally keep wifi active most of the time..
Overall most things run very smoothly. Some apps don't seem to close properly when killed but I assume its due to those apps.
System does get laggy if a lot of apps are open and sleeping.. I use ATK pretty often to keep things smooth...
Problems I've run in to so far...
This one is pretty big I think... when using flashlight from notification panel, if I leave it on until it times out, my phone completely freezes and I have to long power press to reboot or remove battery to get system rebooted. This is persistent and replicated every time I tried.
Gmail app crashes about 30% of the time. Seems completely random. I'v disabled Gmail notification due to this.. (doesn't crash google accounts like above, just the gmail app)
When holding phone I can feel a very very faint vibration coming from the back side up near the camera.. it pulses about once every 2 seconds. You have to very lightly touch the phone to feel it.. like barely touching it. Not sure if its just mine but its very noticeable if you hold it right. Not sure what's causing this.. doesn't seem to affect anything and phone isn't overheating so I can't give more info...
Random reboots are something everyone is aware of so not commenting there. Nova does hang sometimes for 5-10 seconds. Probably due to this being a dev release and such things are expected.
I'll update more if/when I run in to other issues that people haven't really commented on...

android.acore process keep FC..really disturbing..
it bcoz of auto sync and i hope someone have a fix on this
I think v8.2 is the best among Westcripts ROMs. because of the least FC.
V.8.3
Flashed since yesterday , very stable , no FC's at all, however there is an USB problem , PC won't recognise the devised the way it was in previous versions. Nevertheless I believe it's a ICS bug as I found same behaviour in other Roms as well.
Not bad so far using 8.3
I noticed in his dev post he said that official ICS doesn't have blue coloured wifi/signal bars but I've used my friends nexus & his definitely has blue coloured wifi/signal bars when in use.
Everything else seems pretty smooth at the moment.
Looks like this problem with blue bars has been resolved in 8.4 Currently downloading (check change log).
Not being funny, but is there not a thread in the Development section to discuss this rom, surely creating another, just fragments the chefs build

Would have posted my thoughts there but I don't really want to spam 10 posts just to be able to :/
Downloading/Installing 8.4 now
SMe too.. I have flashed the new version and it seems fine. I haven't checked the GPS yet. What I want from this rom is
T9 dialer in aosp theme
Full screen call id like aosp
Aosp boot

Well actually, that thread is supposed to be for development discussion only; not for general Q&A 'how do I do this or that' like it has been. Which means, if people actually adhered to the rules, using this thread for all the 'HALP' posts would likely make development a lot easier for those working on this particular project. The less spam he has to sift through, the more actual development related posts he can focus on.
Not to mention, as I stated in the OP of this thread, I wasn't able to post my bugs there because of my post count.. So i posted them here, along with some other info (like how to install) about the release.
If only everyone who tried to play forum police actually knew what the dev forums are supposed to be for........

Also how can I change back to the stock bootanimation?

I used a app called ROM toolbox suggested in the dev thread to change the bootanimation to the ICS one.
Notifications come up grey here on 8.4.

No issue with the notifications that I've seen so far on 8.4
To get the Samsung boot animation back, do the following:
if you have 8.3 or an earlier version, extract a copy then navigate to extracted file > system > media
copy bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg to your sd card
in root explorer, navigate to your sd card > hit menu and multi select. Select the above to files then click copy/move.
Navigate to /system/media > mount R/W > paste.
Remove bootanimation.zip
set back to R/O and reboot phone.

Temporary fix posted by kevjef420:
go to market and install these three apps. ex dialer, ex dialer ics theme and ics adw theme by kovdev.
set the ex dialer as your main dialer in dock. open setting for ex dialer and select ics theme. then long click on the ex dialer icon in your dock and click edit and select adw theme pack and then find the ics blue phone icon.
now you have a very functional t9 dialer that is very similar to the miui dialer and it works great. I am very happy with the results. this is a good fix untill somebody comes up with a t9 fix for asop dialer.
I've flashed 8.5 and set language to German but somehow it's a mix of German and English!?!
Anybody with same problem or similar?
Navigation from Google Maps keeps force closing everytime i have GPS signal. Maps works fine. What could it be?
Thanks in advance!
v. 8.6
Just installed 8.6, really fast and smooth. Hour in use, no more process stopped.
I am not sure why but in one app's browser and in stock Android file browser I get unusual wide slider. It was normal on 8.4, but changed on 8.5.

Lollipop Findings

Installed Lollipop last night and a few things that I found are working/not working. Let's get a list going here.
1. H+ icon no longer shows up. (ATT)
2. Feels like a new phone performance wise.
3. Home Launcher App no longer seems to work. (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dynamicg.homebuttonlauncher&hl=en)
Cast screen option is now available in the notification pull down, but it still doesn't recognize the Chromecast.
ART uses a lot more space for apps, so a microSD card is now a must. Probably why Moto added it.
Camera doesn't seem to have any improvements. Not worse, but I'm not seeing anything better either.
Sometimes specific apps (like Skype for example) don't seem to use both speakers leaving the sound very quiet.
Screen pining option in security is awesome

Hey, I'll paste the questions I leaved in a thread I created but doesn't seem so popular:
First and foremost, I'm curious about the new memory management in this Release. As you can see in this threads 1 XDA Thread 2 (Official Motorola Forums one) the problems with RAM management in KitKat were MASSIVE.
- How do you feel it is as of right now? It's still there? It's a little better?
- How does the CPU respond? Could you run an Antutu Benchmark to compare with KitKat?
- I know it's a little early to ask, but I'm curious about Project Volta. Do you notice more battery life?

Have noticed performance improvements? Such as better memory management, improved responsiveness, faster app loadings etc. ?
On 4.4.4, I can't run Facebook and Chrome simultaneously without one getting kicked out of memory

100% at 8am. Was down to 10% around 2:30PM after heavy usage. Definitely not real world use. Mostly playing around with Lollipop.
Application optimization does not happen at boot like it did w/ ART on 4.4.4.
I'd like to note, it took my phone nearly 45 minutes to upgrade from 4.4.4 > Lollipop.

Can you test some more things, like a benchmark or something just to see, and more impressions about the lag of open the menu?
I waded through all the spam and robotically dubbed crap on YouTube, and FINALLY found someone who's actually bothered to make a brief video... so here it is:
Has anyone else noticed not being able to access the camera from the lockscreen on Lollipop?
My thoughts on Lollipop 5.0:
-Booting the phone takes about 30 seconds. I have a lot of apps on the SD card, and they take a while to become available. Perhaps 2 minutes. I had to move a lot of apps to the SD card to get room for the update, so I can't compare before and after times for finding apps on the SD.
-When the phone was updating to Lollipop it said it optimized 105 apps. It does not optimize on every boot. I'm pretty sure apps on the SD card were not optimized based on number of apps.
-Music (Pandora and Play Music) still stops playing in the background when I launch some apps. The suspected 'memory leak', memory management problem, or whatever the cause, has not been fixed. So no apparent change there.
-If I create an app folder with apps on the removable SD, those apps still do not reappear in the folders when I restart the phone. No change.
-App-specific notifications are awesome. I have 'Subway Surfers' on my phone because my kids like the game. I hate getting notifications every day for an app I don't even play. I have disabled notifications for that app. Definate positive change.
-I use an app called 'Notification Toggle' to add toggles for skipping tracks, camera, battery life with numbered %, turning on wifi and cell data, etc. The Cell Data toggle doesn't work any more, it takes me to a screen that can be used to turn on/off data roaming but not data all together. Hopefully that will be fixed. The notification screen update already gives me another option (see my next comment).
-The pull-down notification menu can be pulled down again to show some settings that partly replace the 'Notification Toggle' app I just mentioned, including turning cell data on/off. It's a nice feature. I wish it were customizable. Definate positive change; it doesn't quite replace 3rd party apps for me, but that's part of the Android customizable experience.
-It takes longer to unlock. The unlock pattern/code input has been replaced by notifications, you need to swipe up before unlocking. Minor change but definitely not an improvement for me.
-Stability and responsiveness are good. I haven't noticed any lag but I don't remember noticing lage on 4.4.
-Battery life? I'm a compulsive phone charger, so I don't know yet. I like the new battery life screen. It shows charge over time like it used to, and it also shows projected battery life. It says I have 10 hours left, after using the phone for about an hour looking at settings, locking/unlocking the phone while on WiFi streaming Pandora.
-Lockscreen notifications have the following settings:
Show all notification content will show content in new text messages and what is playing on Pandora or Play music; in Play Music it lets me skip to the next song without unlocking; I can't change tracks in Pandora from the unlock screen. Annoying change for me.
Hide Sensitive content in Notifications lets me know I got a text but doesn't show the message; I can see what is playing and skip tracks in Play Music but not Pandora
Show Nothing shows... nothing.
I wish I could select which apps would show their content on the lock screen; in my mind what I am playing in Pandora is not nearly as sensitive as what texts I receive.
If I get a text and there are multiple notifications on the lock screen, or if I get more than one text,it won't show the content of the texts. No scrolling to fit more notifications (like the notifications shade). So if you have a lot going on, lock screen notifications become sort of useless, and that's when they might be the most useful.
I used to be able to press the power button and skip to the next pandora track from the unlock screen. Two actions. Now: (1) I press the power button, (2) swipe up, (3) enter the unlock pattern, (4) open Pandora, and (5) skip to the next track. Convenience has suffered.
People will have different opinions, but for me personally the whole lock screen experience is a step backwards. I think there are some simple fixes that could make it very good, and I hope this is a bad start to a good feature (i.e. waiting for 5.0.1).

Thanks, I asked if this was the case in another thread, nice to have it confirmed but wasn't the answer I wanted.
From my impression the KitKat lockscreen is perhaps better for people like us (it is for me), you can easily see your notifications but not see any content just the icons at the top, music playback controls are easily accessible and the pattern/PIN is displayed without a swipe.

I can get to the camera app from the lock screen without unlocking, take pics from front and rear camera, shoot video, and view the gallery pics/videos I took from THAT LOCKED SESSION ONLY. I can't see all the other pics/videos on the phone.
A minute later I accessed camera without unlocking the phone again. I could NOT see the pics that I took a minute ago with a locked phone. In other words, if I take pics with a locked phone those new pics are still private, as long as I turn off the screen again. Maybe that's the default Lollipop behavior, but I'm glad it works that way.
Edit: the phone wants to back up the photos that i took with the screen locked. I need to look into this. I deleted those pics i.e. I selected 'delete everywhere'. If someone takes pics with my phone, will they be backed up to online folders/tools that I share? I'm just a simple caveman lawyer, your new technology frightens me. I just copy/save my pics manually, so I don't even understand how backup works. I'm pretty sure backup was turned backup off in Jelly Bean.
Another edit: The Photos app says that backup is for 'my eyes only'. As long as no one can take a pervy pic with my locked phone and share it with the world, I'm ok. Because we all know how safe pics on our phones are.

Sorry, I don't have a thumb drive or otg cable handy. I never heard of the problem till you mentioned it, I guess I don't use thumb drives with my phone.
Different subject:
I connected the phone to my computer with USB debugging turned on, and I got this driver error:
Device driver software was not successfully installed
Motorola ADB Interface X No driver found
It's an old problem and looks like getting the error is expected, but I'm busy at work and can't be bothered to look into it for now. File explorer from the PC works fine. I have other android toys, I don't like messing with my main phone so I don't need ADB anyways. I honestly think I've never even put this phone into USB Debug before today.

Thanks, weird that it's not working for me. Interesting, that's an inconsistency between out phones. I can enter, exit, and re-enter the camera app repeatedly without unlocking the phone, turn the screen off and on again, and use the camera again without unlocking.

One more thing: the home screen redraw issue still happens, but less often. For example I just used chrome browser briefly, went home and the screen didn't redraw. Same with Play Music.
I loaded Clash of Clans, collected some gold/elixir, donated some troops, went to home screen and the screen had to redraw. Exiting a lightweight game like 2048 does not cause the home screen to redraw (so far). Overall the home screen seems to redraw less often.

Actually, another one more thing:
In settings-->developer options-->Process stats: I got the message "device memory is currently critical" I killed a few apps (including Play store, play music, all the Motorola apps) and got 403 MB ram available. Settings is using 70MB, Notification Toggle is using 3MB, Swipe is using 26MB. I went back to Process Stats and it now says 'Device memory is currently normal". Sorry, I didn't take not of how much memory was available before killing apps.

Reboot:
Unlock screen 50 seconds after pressing power
Widgets active 1 min 15 seconds after pressing power
Apps on SD available in app drawer 2 minutes 30 seconds after pressing power. I have 36 apps on my SD card, it's a 16GB card with 5.4GB available (lots of media) and I believe it's a class 4 or class 6).
On boot I had 408MB ram free. After killing some apps I have 453 MB free; settings using 70MB, Swype 24MB, and Google Search 15MB. MotoCare using 15MB and if I kill it it just restarts. I don't know if Settings always uses RAM or if I get that RAM back when I exit Settings.
How much more space does ART take?
You can try ART on KK... but on my XT1068 Dalvik 2.6Gb free space / ART 2.0Gb free space.
I updated my phone yesterday.
It's now faster. The lollipop is so beautiful.
The only problem is that yes I can't see
H+ icon anymore. Does anyone know what ?

:fingers-crossed::laugh:
YouTube Link : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjR2PxJmcsk
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF THIS ANDROID 7 ON Z3+.
Advantages..
1. Battery is lasting more than MM.
2. Stamina mode comes with 3 level stamina features.
3. Split Screen Apps are awesome.
4. Heating is less, I think they avhieved that by closing the background apps.
5.Camera app doesnt heatup the phone and lasts open till 5 min( I checked for 5 minutes only may be it ll show heating warning after that, I just dont know about it).
6. Now both the wallpaper and lockscreen can be handled easily with the same option WALLPAPER provided at SETTING app.
Disadvantages.
1. The Icons for the apps CONTACTS, MESSAGING, PHONE, CAMERA are so ugly.
2. One cannot go to the homepage by clicking recent navbar and then by clicking at the clear space of the recent apps menu.
3. While phone is locked the phone doesnt react to double tap unlock like it used to be in MM.
4. While the phone is locked the Icons of battery, network, clock etc are placed slightly lower than the Icons placed in the unlocked screen. LOCKING UNLOCKING CREATES AN UGLY LOOK OF MISPLACEMENT OF THESE ICONS.
5. The Battery icon in the status bar is too weird. ( Doesnt like it look).
6. The Data traffic indicator ( the small arrows up and down are way too small, the indicator which shows below 2g, 3g, H+ and LTE on the status bar)
7. They removed the option of selecting the FOCUS MODE in the camera app.
8. I compared the pictures taken by my phone when its in LP, MM AND N, I must say in LP this phone used to capture photos brilliantly, in MM the pics are somewhat lower than LP. But in N the pics quality are not upto marks. I think thats all because of this focus thing. Now the phone focus the way it wants to).
9. Remove/ Quit apps wisely, I am downloading some apps from UC BROWSER and then I exit the app and keep the downloading in the background but when I cleared the app from the recent apps list just to make my recent app section to look empty, it stopped my downloading too and the APP UC BROWSER was completely shut. (This option is in LP TOO BUT NOT IN MM) So close apps wisely.
11. They abandoned the small apps, Yes they are there but not easily accessible, now accessing small apps are quit pain in the ASS.
12. The apps in the Recent apps looks very big.
13. New quick tiles are good but one cannot direct shut data from there.
Thats all dear Fellas, I like the UI OF MM more than this N.
I THINK SONY JUST BAKED THIS N FOR US IN HURRY.
If I missed anything than please guys you can add that on your comments.
I really think the Android N update is very good for this device. Camera quality has improved in N - try some low light shots - noise is much lower. The UI is very fluid.
For my device not update notice for now...but I see that in Russia update is out in these days...
So, for now I can't comment about N on my Z3+...but thank you very much for this thread...I hope more users tell opinions about this new update...
I would like to learn more about:
- camera is more fast or not, compared to MM? About picture quality seems the two different opinions are contrary..so, other user opinion about camera?
- N as it looks in terms of reactivity on our device?
- Audio? From speakers and in headset? There are some new optimizations or similar?
Thanks in advance to all
I checked xpericheck and Ru customisation and in ARENT THERE! They delete it or what?

Hope that removed for the reasons you've mentioned :fingers-crossed:
Using Nougat Indian Firmware
Advantages-
1. Camera quality is better
2. Split screen
3. Smooth Ui
4. Performance Enhancment
5. Battery backup improved
6. Brightness dim Issue in sunlight is fixed upto great extent
7. Heating issue is much more solved
Disadvantages ( Huge list but Listing major one)
1. Touch issue (Lackness in touch sensitivity)
2. No manual Focus in Camera Menu
3. Sound Quality reduced (Vibrations in back panel)
4. Can't download apps frome playstore in Roaming.
5. Now we have to double tap to activate data from notification bar
So, its better to push updates for fixing these problems. I hope sony would release updates.
Number 4 and 5 from @ag_themes list are customisation dependent. Both are not present in Russian Nougat that also was on servers before withdrawal.
Also I don't have any touch issues. The sound problems mentioned are the main reason of update withdrawal.
Btw. No overheating is probably connected with reduced usage of a57 cores. Nougat uses them rarely comparing to marshmallow (some report says they are disabled in nougat).
Can someone upload Russian fw? I want to flash it
Using Android Nougat on India Version
Split Screen is advantage (but not many app support however you can force them to)
Slightly more responsive ( like 5 percent)
camera is same (with an added option in manual mode)
audio is also similar
i feel battery consumption when device is used is same ( maybe doze helps when phone is in sleep but i didnt notice much improvement)
My device hanged once (in youtube app). Restarted itself after 5 mins.
Indirect access to small apps ( i never really used them)
{
Other things such as detailed (two taps to toggle) mobile data , wifi and bluetooth. Displays important things on settings , NOtification quick reply these are android N features sony didnt mess with
}
I feel its an simple upgrade of API . Everything else is similar to MM.

Nope, not true. With out bootloader unlock, it is impossible to root the device.
IOVYROOT will get temp root access to backup the TA Partition, but after reboot, the device loses the root access. It is only for taking backup, you can not modify the system. If you try to modify the system with temp root access, your device will be dead after reboot.

Just to help out a bit, if possible:
Camera seems to be fine on my P2XL - though I have not enabled any HDR+ or raw settings.
Now Playing is working for me, grabbed the theme song off the show I was watching last night.
Markup "edit" button can be fixed. Clear data in markup, open photos and use markup from within that; you should get a permission request. (simply going into permissions on the markup app and enabling any/all may work as well, but is untested)
In dialer/recents, tap the number, and choose block from the drop down menu. I am in the beta for the Google phone app - so that may be part of it. Dirty flash may also affect this.
Clarification only: Photos is broken in dark-mode, but only in that all options dialogs/drop-downs are white text on white background. Other than that, you can still browse photos/albums, etc.
For clarity: My device is the Pixel 2 XL and Q was installed via factory image with full wipe (no dirty flash), and I did not restore from any backups.
Camera is fine for me on 2xl. Nothing different. HDR+ works as normal so does raw DNG.

Much faster fingerprint?
It already feels almost instant in Pie, what can they improve?

Now playing is working for me - just not displaying on the lock screen. I just got home form a birthday party, and every song the DJ played is in my NP history;
In addition to the charging time estimate, the estimate in the pull down notification area is completely off base compared to the estimated time left in Settings --> Battery;
My built in screen recording works for me, and has worked since I enabled it from the Features flags in Developer Options;
No issues with Google Photos with dark Mode. Caveat: I had dark mode enabled in Pie, and took the Q DP1 OTA over that Pie install;
I found that there is a microphone icon at the top left when selecting Panorama photo mode that I never saw before (was that introduced with Q DP1, or just a very recent Google Camera update?)
I've not noticed a discernible slowdown in the Camera app (and I always use HDR+ / Night sight for my photos), but I have noticed that when I try to view a picture / video, particularly like an MMS in Messages / Google Voice, the phone is extremely slow and laggy.

Yes, it will overwrite twrp and magisk.
There are always potential problems with any update to beta builds, however, many are running Q without issues. Best advice I can give is to familiarize yourself with fastboot commands, since you'll need to install twrp again, and read, read, and read again all of the information in the Q threads so you know what to do and expect :good:

Huge thanks mate, and there is problem for me,as keybord not working on laptop...
You'll probably need access to a different computer - or else need to buy a cheap USB KB to use, because use of a separate computer / laptop is pretty much essential to get this working (root + Q, not to mention installing TWRP by using fastboot boot to boot TWRP, then installing TWRP from inside the booted TWRP).

You should get the next update fine, provided your on stock recovery without root. I don't run betas personally, but my info comes from reading about others that do. As with anything android...YMMV :good::laugh:
Android Q Beta Experience
I've been on Android Q beta for almost 3 weeks now. It is used as a daily driver since I have only the one Pixel 2. I flashed the new image myself using TWRP rather than opt into the beta with Google. Other than a problem with now playing not always showing up on the screen and a slight delay when I go to the Favorites page in Phone app everything seems to work alright. I am getting roughly the same battery life as with Android Pie. Oh, and my banking app (ICICI Bank, India) is not working. It doesn't send an SMS to activate the app. I thought this might be as the phone number is shown as unknown. I understand that Vodafone in India does not show the phone number in the SIM information in Settings. I have activated dark mode and even photos and camera app work without a hitch. I have rooted with Magisk (Canary channel) and that is working without any problem.
OTOH, I've also been on Q since the day it came out (my birthday, coincidentally - love being an Ides of March baby lol).
I've had some issues crop up here and there, but nothing really serious. I was on Pie, rooted, and used the uninstall routine inside of Magisk to de-root my Taimen before taking Q, and then rooted it again with the (then latest) canary build.
What I'm hoping is that the Magisk procedure to de-root the device, take the OTA, and then before rebooting, applying the patched boot.img to the new partition will work, the same as if you're rooted on Pie and get an OTA.
Time will tell.
My notifications is coming like this only.. is this a bug?
or the clock is missing?
My device is not rooted. I'm not using any module or theme.
Clock missing - have you rebooted?

Yes I have. Atleast 2-3 times.
Wonder if it is System UI Tuner related?
You could give this a shot and see if the System UI is set to hide the clock, though the last time I actually tried to hide the clock, it didn't leave that space there....

What kind of glitches?
on mine i can't remove the top most notification on settings (customize your a2 phone with wallpapers, blabla)
L.E. and the notification led was broken for a bit, fixed itself after a few restarts.
No boot loop (I was afraid)
It took about 5 minutes to restart, after password took about 3 minutes with the message your phone is starting, and it restarted again, then everything is fine.
*Camera API2 not enabled, (Though this would be it but...Xiaomi)
*the downloads issue from past update is gone
*camera seems fine,
*there's this app called "Device Personalization Services" which just crashes, it can be unistalled though
*persistance Custumize your Mi A2 message at the top of settings (can't dissmiss it?)
Everything else seems fine so far.
Gestures in third party launchers don't work
So I've installed it, here are some important points worth mentioning :
1- no camera 2 api
2- no ARCore
3- The device personalisation services which is the app responsible for app suggestions in app menu and smart replies etc. is now visible via app menu and it shouldn't
4- Google play music is now force installed, you could uninstall it in pie and Oreo
5- remember how we complained about xiaomi not adopting to new Google material design guide lines by making dialog corners edgy ? Well it became seriously worse, everything is pointy and I don't like it
6- Google Assistant gestures are not working
7- all new features are working pretty well including new gestures and system wide dark mode and new theming options in developer options, tho unlike pixels system wide dark mode doesn't apply at boot screen
8- I suspect there's again some noises coming from camera, better check that yourself
9- there's an annoying banner in settings about some suggestions which you can't get rid of , possibly because of Device Personalisation Services app being faulty
10- if you have 2 users set on your phone you can't see the user switcher until you turn it on and off in settings
11- The security patch is still from December so expect another OTA in near days before next month which possibly includes bug fixes and January patch
12- some quick step ( default launcher ) features aren't working, you wanna guess which ? You're damn right, the ones related to Device Personalisation Services.
13- a lot of lagging, well there's nothing really there to say about it, is it? Expect some annoying lags.
14- the trusted face option is removed from smart Lock so you can't unlock your device with face recognition at the moment.
What about disabling Device Personalisation app?
i'll add a few bits:
- no longer says charging quickly (i hope it's just a display thing and still fastcharges)
clear cache on the device personalization services and it should stop crashing on load (still doesnt open, but wont see the force close)
Bluetooth is not working to me
Anyone can confirm?

Hi, I don't think you should disable it, well you can uninstall it but that would be pointless. Device Personalization Services is an app which was present in OS since Android pie and it has always been hidden as a part of system apps, now due to a bug it's not working and it's being shown in apps list like any other app
Audio
Multimedia audio doesn't seem to work yet the other audio channels seem fine, anyone else?
