Lollipop Findings - G 2014 General

Installed Lollipop last night and a few things that I found are working/not working. Let's get a list going here.
1. H+ icon no longer shows up. (ATT)
2. Feels like a new phone performance wise.
3. Home Launcher App no longer seems to work. (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dynamicg.homebuttonlauncher&hl=en)

Cast screen option is now available in the notification pull down, but it still doesn't recognize the Chromecast.
ART uses a lot more space for apps, so a microSD card is now a must. Probably why Moto added it.
Camera doesn't seem to have any improvements. Not worse, but I'm not seeing anything better either.
Sometimes specific apps (like Skype for example) don't seem to use both speakers leaving the sound very quiet.

Screen pining option in security is awesome

Hey, I'll paste the questions I leaved in a thread I created but doesn't seem so popular:
First and foremost, I'm curious about the new memory management in this Release. As you can see in this threads 1 XDA Thread 2 (Official Motorola Forums one) the problems with RAM management in KitKat were MASSIVE.
- How do you feel it is as of right now? It's still there? It's a little better?
- How does the CPU respond? Could you run an Antutu Benchmark to compare with KitKat?
- I know it's a little early to ask, but I'm curious about Project Volta. Do you notice more battery life?

Have noticed performance improvements? Such as better memory management, improved responsiveness, faster app loadings etc. ?
On 4.4.4, I can't run Facebook and Chrome simultaneously without one getting kicked out of memory

What about battery usage? Does the application optimizing occur at every boot?

100% at 8am. Was down to 10% around 2:30PM after heavy usage. Definitely not real world use. Mostly playing around with Lollipop.
Application optimization does not happen at boot like it did w/ ART on 4.4.4.
I'd like to note, it took my phone nearly 45 minutes to upgrade from 4.4.4 > Lollipop.

It would appear your lolly got well and truly licked...
L LLIP P

Can you test some more things, like a benchmark or something just to see, and more impressions about the lag of open the menu?

I waded through all the spam and robotically dubbed crap on YouTube, and FINALLY found someone who's actually bothered to make a brief video... so here it is:

Has anyone else noticed not being able to access the camera from the lockscreen on Lollipop?

My thoughts on Lollipop 5.0:
-Booting the phone takes about 30 seconds. I have a lot of apps on the SD card, and they take a while to become available. Perhaps 2 minutes. I had to move a lot of apps to the SD card to get room for the update, so I can't compare before and after times for finding apps on the SD.
-When the phone was updating to Lollipop it said it optimized 105 apps. It does not optimize on every boot. I'm pretty sure apps on the SD card were not optimized based on number of apps.
-Music (Pandora and Play Music) still stops playing in the background when I launch some apps. The suspected 'memory leak', memory management problem, or whatever the cause, has not been fixed. So no apparent change there.
-If I create an app folder with apps on the removable SD, those apps still do not reappear in the folders when I restart the phone. No change.
-App-specific notifications are awesome. I have 'Subway Surfers' on my phone because my kids like the game. I hate getting notifications every day for an app I don't even play. I have disabled notifications for that app. Definate positive change.
-I use an app called 'Notification Toggle' to add toggles for skipping tracks, camera, battery life with numbered %, turning on wifi and cell data, etc. The Cell Data toggle doesn't work any more, it takes me to a screen that can be used to turn on/off data roaming but not data all together. Hopefully that will be fixed. The notification screen update already gives me another option (see my next comment).
-The pull-down notification menu can be pulled down again to show some settings that partly replace the 'Notification Toggle' app I just mentioned, including turning cell data on/off. It's a nice feature. I wish it were customizable. Definate positive change; it doesn't quite replace 3rd party apps for me, but that's part of the Android customizable experience.
-It takes longer to unlock. The unlock pattern/code input has been replaced by notifications, you need to swipe up before unlocking. Minor change but definitely not an improvement for me.
-Stability and responsiveness are good. I haven't noticed any lag but I don't remember noticing lage on 4.4.
-Battery life? I'm a compulsive phone charger, so I don't know yet. I like the new battery life screen. It shows charge over time like it used to, and it also shows projected battery life. It says I have 10 hours left, after using the phone for about an hour looking at settings, locking/unlocking the phone while on WiFi streaming Pandora.
-Lockscreen notifications have the following settings:
Show all notification content will show content in new text messages and what is playing on Pandora or Play music; in Play Music it lets me skip to the next song without unlocking; I can't change tracks in Pandora from the unlock screen. Annoying change for me.
Hide Sensitive content in Notifications lets me know I got a text but doesn't show the message; I can see what is playing and skip tracks in Play Music but not Pandora
Show Nothing shows... nothing.
I wish I could select which apps would show their content on the lock screen; in my mind what I am playing in Pandora is not nearly as sensitive as what texts I receive.
If I get a text and there are multiple notifications on the lock screen, or if I get more than one text,it won't show the content of the texts. No scrolling to fit more notifications (like the notifications shade). So if you have a lot going on, lock screen notifications become sort of useless, and that's when they might be the most useful.
I used to be able to press the power button and skip to the next pandora track from the unlock screen. Two actions. Now: (1) I press the power button, (2) swipe up, (3) enter the unlock pattern, (4) open Pandora, and (5) skip to the next track. Convenience has suffered.
People will have different opinions, but for me personally the whole lock screen experience is a step backwards. I think there are some simple fixes that could make it very good, and I hope this is a bad start to a good feature (i.e. waiting for 5.0.1).

Memory leak/bug is still there Oh god why

Thanks, I asked if this was the case in another thread, nice to have it confirmed but wasn't the answer I wanted.
From my impression the KitKat lockscreen is perhaps better for people like us (it is for me), you can easily see your notifications but not see any content just the icons at the top, music playback controls are easily accessible and the pattern/PIN is displayed without a swipe.

I can get to the camera app from the lock screen without unlocking, take pics from front and rear camera, shoot video, and view the gallery pics/videos I took from THAT LOCKED SESSION ONLY. I can't see all the other pics/videos on the phone.
A minute later I accessed camera without unlocking the phone again. I could NOT see the pics that I took a minute ago with a locked phone. In other words, if I take pics with a locked phone those new pics are still private, as long as I turn off the screen again. Maybe that's the default Lollipop behavior, but I'm glad it works that way.
Edit: the phone wants to back up the photos that i took with the screen locked. I need to look into this. I deleted those pics i.e. I selected 'delete everywhere'. If someone takes pics with my phone, will they be backed up to online folders/tools that I share? I'm just a simple caveman lawyer, your new technology frightens me. I just copy/save my pics manually, so I don't even understand how backup works. I'm pretty sure backup was turned backup off in Jelly Bean.
Another edit: The Photos app says that backup is for 'my eyes only'. As long as no one can take a pervy pic with my locked phone and share it with the world, I'm ok. Because we all know how safe pics on our phones are.

Sorry, I don't have a thumb drive or otg cable handy. I never heard of the problem till you mentioned it, I guess I don't use thumb drives with my phone.
Different subject:
I connected the phone to my computer with USB debugging turned on, and I got this driver error:
Device driver software was not successfully installed
Motorola ADB Interface X No driver found
It's an old problem and looks like getting the error is expected, but I'm busy at work and can't be bothered to look into it for now. File explorer from the PC works fine. I have other android toys, I don't like messing with my main phone so I don't need ADB anyways. I honestly think I've never even put this phone into USB Debug before today.

Thanks, weird that it's not working for me. If I restart the phone, it will work the very first time I'm on the lockscreen and swipe into the camera, but on subsequent attempt I get a black screen with the icons for switching between front and back cameras and for shooting video, but none of the controls work.

Interesting, that's an inconsistency between out phones. I can enter, exit, and re-enter the camera app repeatedly without unlocking the phone, turn the screen off and on again, and use the camera again without unlocking.

One more thing: the home screen redraw issue still happens, but less often. For example I just used chrome browser briefly, went home and the screen didn't redraw. Same with Play Music.
I loaded Clash of Clans, collected some gold/elixir, donated some troops, went to home screen and the screen had to redraw. Exiting a lightweight game like 2048 does not cause the home screen to redraw (so far). Overall the home screen seems to redraw less often.

Actually, another one more thing:
In settings-->developer options-->Process stats: I got the message "device memory is currently critical" I killed a few apps (including Play store, play music, all the Motorola apps) and got 403 MB ram available. Settings is using 70MB, Notification Toggle is using 3MB, Swipe is using 26MB. I went back to Process Stats and it now says 'Device memory is currently normal". Sorry, I didn't take not of how much memory was available before killing apps.

Reboot:
Unlock screen 50 seconds after pressing power
Widgets active 1 min 15 seconds after pressing power
Apps on SD available in app drawer 2 minutes 30 seconds after pressing power. I have 36 apps on my SD card, it's a 16GB card with 5.4GB available (lots of media) and I believe it's a class 4 or class 6).
On boot I had 408MB ram free. After killing some apps I have 453 MB free; settings using 70MB, Swype 24MB, and Google Search 15MB. MotoCare using 15MB and if I kill it it just restarts. I don't know if Settings always uses RAM or if I get that RAM back when I exit Settings.

How much more space does ART take?

You can try ART on KK... but on my XT1068 Dalvik 2.6Gb free space / ART 2.0Gb free space.

I updated my phone yesterday.
It's now faster. The lollipop is so beautiful.
The only problem is that yes I can't see
H+ icon anymore. Does anyone know what ?

Nexus S - Bugs & Wishlist

Hey guys, I believe we are going to need a general thread to report and discuss Nexus S bugs so here it is!
Let me start by reporting what I found so far.
1. Screen does not respond to the first/second touch after unlock.
2. Email app (not Gmail) does not zoom in/out. We are talking about a really bad experienced when displaying HTML emails.
3. Again for Mail app signature is not included when you create mail straight from Contacts.
4. SMS Delivery Reports are a MESS. Send SMS to a person getting delivery report pop-up for another completely unrelated number while the original message is still pending. We are talking about a disaster here lool
5. Also for the SMS Delivery reports. Pop up notification display the number and not the contact's name.
6. Many websites are causing the browser to act very slow for none reason. (with Flash activated or deactivated). Major example androidcentral.com. I found many websites that causing major lag on browser.
7. MMS are blurry as reported by many
8. Battery Never charge to 100% even if your phone displays 100% it drops to 97% once you unplug it. If I remember correctly I had the same problem with Nexus One.
9. Calendar Widget does not display "Today's" events
10. Google forgot to put Digital Zoom on Camera App. (And yes digital zoom is worthless but many people for some reason like it and miss it.)
11. Not really a bug, but if you notice on Gingerbread Google placed the keyboard 1cm above the bottom of the screen, is not located all the way to the bottom of the screen like previous Android versions. that 1cm is more than enought for me to hit blank screen and not the space bar when I am typing.
12. On keyboard you have to press and hold to select a smile icon. Then you need to keep holding your finger down until you actually select what you want.
13. There is not multiple select threats on messaging. So If I want to delete multiple threads I have to do it one by one...
14. Contacts Associated with Facebook Contacts have a really blurry really bad quality picture on caller id.
Wishlist:
1. We are on Android 2.3 and Google still doesn't giving us the option to install different locales. I mean not many people care for Language Menus but we do need the official Keyboard to add other freaking Languages. This is ridiculous...
2. Copy Paste is well improve but is very immature. Evey app use different method to generate copy and paste.
3. Hardware-wise the phone supports flawless 720p video recording. Why Google didn't include it?
4. The phone needs a native video-call app. Google needs to update Gtalk ASAP.
5. Called ID picture is way too small for this gorgeous 4 inch Super Amoled display.
add to error-list:
13. facebook sync is not working 100% correct - i got many gmail contacts witch are not synced with the facebook contact (would not be that bad but my girlfriends contact is not syncing right)
ad to Wishlist:
5. notificatins led would be cool ... (SMS, MSS, MAIL, ...) nut the 3 would be very very cool ...
I agree with it all. My main issue is the 'deadzone' which is the 1cm edge of the touch screen.

This is NOT a bug. This is by design.
To elaborate, from the stickied FAQ:
unremarked said:
Q: I unplugged my phone, and my battery dropped from 100% to 95% immediately, or it won't/takes along time to charge past 99%, what gives?
This is by design. Your phone will slow down and eventually stop pulling charge at or slightly greater than ~95% regardless of what your battery indicator says. This is to extend the overall life of the battery, as constant 100% to 0% charge/discharge cycles will cause it to fail prematurely. If you're interested in really pushing it to 100%, you can use a technique that is called "bump charging" and is better detailed here: http://bit.ly/f6xiZ0/

Sorry, jumped the gun a little. See the quote I edited in.
Like I said, this is by design.
EDIT: I also have some of the things you've pointed out listed in the Known Issues section of the FAQ, and some that you don't have.
BUG: touch screen area
the bug i've found so far... (which can be fixed by a screen calibration app)
the first half inch of the screen right above the 4 soft buttons, are not very responsive, unless you use your finger tips
so when you Naturally use the THUMB to press those quick shortcuts from Launcher Pro, or stock Android Launcher it won't react.... which is rather annoying.
never had that problem with the SGS
I started a thread over at Android Central to get people to visit reported issues to Google and star them. Here's the list so far. Let's add to it.
1) Random ringtone/notification tone changes: Ringtones assigned to contacts do not maintain assignment after a reboot
2) Disappearing App icons on the home screen or difficulty in moving them: Disappearing Home Screen Icons
3) Disappearing photos from the Gallery:
Issue 13419 - android - New pictures disappear in Gallery - Project Hosting on Google Code
4) Repeal the 15-min return policy in App Market (it used to be 24 hours): Issue 13116 - android - Change refund time in Market. 15min is way to little. - Project Hosting on Google Code
5) Accelerometer not working after using Sky Maps: Nexus S-Accelerometer will not work after using Sky Maps
6) After screen times out, you can't bring it back when using speakerphone or earbuds: after screen times out, you can't bring it back when using speakerphone or earbuds
Hmm, that deadzone seems like it'll be a troublesome issue for me... Can you please post a picture of the keyboard displacement? (I haven't got my NS yet, so I don't know how it looks)
i don't know if this is one of the error.. but the charging time is ridiculous. i could charge up to 2 hours and still not finish charging.. the battery run out ridiculously fast too.. with normal usage it barely manage more than half a day.. i adjust my screen brightness to the minimum level and turn off background data and auto sync (i just turn them on when i needed them), and use it to play a little bit of games and watching movies.. 8 hours is around the best time i got..
another known issue is poor wifi signal =(..i am standing 1 meter from my router and the signal could drop from full bar to 1 bar while my sister macbook could receive wifi from another room that is quite far from the router..
Something I noticed yesterday was notification tones almost nonexistent despite the volume being at full blast. When pressing the volume rocker I barely hear anything. I fixed this by rebooting the phone but still something that's a little alarming.
Not sure if it was mentioned, but i hope they fix the MMS/image upload orientation issue
I dont know if this is considered a nexus bug, but...
-Youtube app, if I search for, select, and watch a video...after completion, if I press search again, and type something in, after hitting enter it simply clears the search screen and returns to finished video. In order to make a new search I have to back back back all the way to the first youtube screen or force close/reopen youtube app. Again this is using the provided youtube app, not youtube mobile
I haven't experienced any of the things in that list, but then again they are pretty app specific and I don't use any of those apps. One thing I did experience was the Facebook app just logged me out and lost all my contact sync settings. This happened to me twice, but it is more likely a Facebook problem and not Gingerbread.
Oh, I did notice the battery charge thing but like someone else mentioned I don't consider that a bug.

I have no idea what they're talking about. o_o I have almost always used the stock Messaging app on every Android phone I've ever owned (and I've owned a fair share of them, see sig) and never once have I had a problem anywhere CLOSE to what they're reporting.
I've only ever had two issues with messaging was on the Nexus One, it's weak 3G/phone signal would cause alot of messages to not send randomly. And the other was my GF would sometimes receive duplicates of messages after flashing/reflashing/restoring things on my G2. Interestingly enough, no one else told me they were getting duplicates 'cept for her.
EDIT: Beyond that, I take what Engadget says with a great grain of salt. I consider them to be the FOX News(instead of the GOP, it's Apple) of phone/technology blogs.

List of issues, any solutions?

Cause I'm about to return this thing.
Software/OS wise:
- I guess this is an Android "thing", but the phone is constanly launching random programs in the background that I had nothing to do with, and it noticeably slows the phone down. If I see Sense stuttering, I'll run ATK, kill the dozen or so random things thta somehow launched all by themselves, and the phone is snappy again. Today I was typing a text message, and the phone was so slow, it was only registering one character every 5 seconds or so in the message. I went tho ATK, a whole ****load of random stuff was running, I killed it all, text messaging goes back to normal. How can you use an OS that randomly launches apps that degrade system performance? And as far as I can tell there's no way to remove the apps, or keep them from randomly launching on thier own in the background. I thought Android apps running in the background were supposed to not use any resources? But these a re having a noticible impact, clear as day. Sluggish UI, run ATK, kill the apps, silky smooth UI.
- I despise threaded SMS and you can't turn it off.
- I hate the little gray faces in the people list, and you can't turn them off
- Don't like the transparent folder backgrounds, and you can't do anything about it.
Hardware wise:
- The volume rocker is in a terrible positoin and is way to easy to accidentally hit. And apparently you need root to do anything about by remapping the keys
- If the phone is locked, sliding out the keyboard just a little bit wakes up the phone unlocked. andthen when trying to slide the KB back in you end up hitting buttons and hittingthe volume rocker, it's just annoying
- Suffers from the iPhone 4 "holding the phone in your righthand cuts your signal strength by 3 bars" problem
I mean, by themselves, none of these is a huge deal (except the OS slowing itself to a crawl, WTF is up with that?), but add them all up, on tp of the fact I'm paying $30 more a month over my Mogul, and I think this thing is going back to the Sprint store this weekend.
Kinda shocking that 5 years later the latest Androis phone still can;t match my Mogul in terms of useability.

Ok - a long list of complaints. I'll try to address a few, but I don't think there are any "fixes" for any of these problems.
1. Have not had this happen on this phone. Not sure what is running....what were you doing at the time? What apps do you have installed?
2. You'd prefer a single message? Not really sure I understand the issue with threaded SMS...
3. If you hate the gray faces, you can customize the picture for each person - if you don't feel like doing that, then stop complaining. To assign a picture for your contacts - Contacts - "Joe Smith" - Edit - then click the Camera to the left of the contacts name. You can assign any picture you want.
4. This is something that can be modified once we have perm. root, I believe. Is customizable if you modify LPP or ADW.
5. I see a lot of people complaining about the terrible placement. I've only hit them once when closing the phone, but they are almost in the same position as my Heroc, so it must be a habit from avoiding that rocker.
6. My slider needs to slide until I see the 2nd row of keys before the screen turns on. Not sure if yours is diff. or not, but that seems acceptable to me. Perhaps you want to put a lock code or pin on, and then it won't open to the homescreen, etc.
7. I have noticed that too, but really almost every phone has this to some effect. And I've only watched the signal strength bars in the notifications bar. We should watch the signal strength (dB) to see if there really is a drastic difference. It hasn't negatively impacted my use of the phone (on a call, or surfing the web) so I don't really see it as an issue, but more of a pet peeve.
Sorry to hear you are so turned off by your experience so far. hope some of what I've written is useful.
There is no need for a task killer. Just because you see those apps in the backround doesnt actually mean they are running. Android works different in the fact that those are stored in ram to actually save battery if you were to open those apps. It doesnt use more battery to have those apps stored in your ram. Since froyo was introduced there is no reason to use ATK unless there is an aftermarket app that you know will cause power drain.
There is an app called Volume Locker. It will keep you from being able to change the volume level.
Also, there are different dialers out there that offer different looks if you dont like the sense dialer.
I dont have any issue with my bars going down when holding my phone. The reason that happens to an Iphone is because they built the antenna around the case of the phone. It's not built like that with the shift.
Is this your 1st android phone?

1) if your talking about things like FM radio, Sprint navigation, NFL, Sprint TV, etc running in the background. they arent using processor time just small bits of memory they launch in the background after certain triggers like "SMS Recieved" occur and you cant change that without full root, or you can use the temporary root and set it after every boot
2 and 3) i believe you can with handsent or chomp
3) not without full root and nand unlock
as for the rest, havent had any issues with signal either on or off my airave so i cant really replicate your issue, havent had any slowness or slowdowns compared to the painfully buggy and slow mogul for sure.

but there is. Performance on the phone is noticably slower, sliuggish screen transitions, today my text messaging was barely working at all the phone was so bogged down. Killing tasks fixes the problem, so obviously those tasks are using some system resources. If they weren't I wouldn't care that they are there, but they are having a absolute impact of the phones performance and responsiveness.
none of the apps running were crazy stuff, there's maybe 2-3 things I installed from the market (Astra and Google Maps being the most frequnt) and the rest is preinstalled stuff, Teleus GPS, Voicemail, Gmail, Amazon MP3, etc. At the low point ATK says I have aorund 30M memory free, clearing the apps out brings it up to 160.
This isn't a "things running in the background bugs me", it's "these things are slowing the phone down.
2. You'd prefer a single message? Not really sure I understand the issue with threaded SMS...

Yeah, each messgae should be a message. Unto itself. I know some people like threaded, and that's fine, but why is there no option to turn threaded SMS off? I can specify seperate auto completoin settings for the soft keyboard and hardkeyboard for crying out loud, but I can't choose how I want text messages displayed?
3. If you hate the gray faces, you can customize the picture for each person - if you don't feel like doing that, then stop complaining. To assign a picture for your contacts - Contacts - "Joe Smith" - Edit - then click the Camera to the left of the contacts name. You can assign any picture you want.

Yeah, pardon me while I run off to snap 150 pictures and assign them all. I should be able to customize the view to no show pictures with the contacts, not be forec to have 1 chunk of screen real estate takend up "mystery gray head man"
4. This is something that can be modified once we have perm. root, I believe. Is customizable if you modify LPP or ADW.

SOMETHING getting auto launched is using processor time, absolutely. When the phone is runing so slow I can;t even type a text message, and killing the running apps fixes the problem, then there's something running in the background slowing the phone down massively.
Might want to try killing apps 1 at a time to find out what the rogue process is... generally task managers do more harm than good.
You can also sync facebook photo's with contacts if any of your contacts are on your fb account... if you use facebook that is You can also assign photo's thru your gmail account on the web, that is an easier interface than on the phone.
There is really no getting around getting used to a new phone.. just takes some time to get comfortable with it. Usually a week or 2.

You need to read up on this article. like I said before you only need to use it when you have a bad app. Close 1 at a time until you figure out the lag issue as I havnt had a single issue at all with lag. Why you shouldn't use task killers
When you close apps that always run they have to re-open and that uses CPU. All those apps running (except the one giving you issues) arent using any cpu just stored in your memory and if they need to be ran it actually saves CPU. You obvliously have more apps running than you think because I always have at the very least 80mb free. If you decide to root your phone you can always use auto killer memory optimizer and make it so if you hit a certain point it will close the empty apps etc.
Give it some time. Your obviously and amateur Android user (Please dont take offense) and will learn how they work and love it I promise.
I think you're the first person I've heard about who prefers Windows Mobile 6.X to Android. If that's the case, more power to you. Rock that Mogul and cut your monthly bill down and save some bucks. In this economy, nobody's going to argue with you over that.
Sounds like a lot of your gripes are just getting used to the phone. I've never once accidentally hit the volume rocker but I'm coming from a Sprint Hero too, so maybe that's why. If I cup my hand around the bottom of the phone I can get it to drop a bar or two, but I never hold my phone like that under normal use so it doesn't bother me. And my phone doesn't wake up until the keyboard is halfway out (2nd row of keys). If yours wakes from barely moving, maybe something is wrong with it? Take it back for a new one and see if that fixes the problem.
I haven't noticed any slowdown but again, I'm coming from the Hero and that was just a dog trying to run factory Sense. Some people have reported improved performance after performing a factory reset (though that's typically related to data speeds). Might be worth looking into if you're still having problems.

I understand the who idea of android running crap in the background, and if it really worked as advertised and was using no CPU power, I wouldn;t care if there were 100 apps in the background. Whatever is running my my background is causing moderate performance issues most of the time, and occasionally severe performance issues.
Next time it happens I'll try the "kill them 1 at a time" thing and see if I can identify the culprit.
I recognize that most of this is just preference and getting used to the phone, but the performance degradation, the volume rocker, and the signal loss are, to me, enough added up to make the phone just not worth dealing with.

Well, my windows phone doesn't launch mystery apps in the background to kill my performance, doesn't have threaded SMS, doesn't have transparent folders, doesn't put little grey heads next to my contacts, doesn't have any buttons that are easily pushed by mistake, doesn't have an overheating battery, doesn't unlock and wake up when the keyboard is opened, and doesn;t lose signal strength when you pick it up. So yeah, it's kinda dominating android on those points.

Uh, I'd be inclined to think the device is defective or you installed something janky. I have only in a few situations with z4root seen lag on this thing.
I would try a factory reset (hold volume down while powering on the device, choose from menu) and see if that doesn't help. It will wipe the handset so be prepared for that.

Hard reset fixed most of my issues, but the only big one was the battery life anyways. Try that and hopefully it works for you too.
Life is too short to be miserable over a cell phone. Take it back and go back to the Mogul. You clearly like it better and it's cheaper per month. Win-win.
Peace out! Go rock that bad ass mogul til the wheels fall off.

How can you back up your contacts? The Sprint store copied them over from my Mogul for me, so they're all on the phone, no on my gMail account.
I'd like to hold out and see if some of these issues are fixable, because there is a lot I like about the phone too. I love the marketplace, I like the proximity sensor, I like close to 99% of Sense, the screen is gorgeous. Is there hopw that when the phone is rooted I'll be able to fix some of this stuff?

I also got about a 50/50 split betweenn yes and no on whether or not I can go back to my SERO plan if I want to.
I'll give it a week, hopefully real root will be out by then, see if it helps/give the ability to fix some of this stuff, and if not, back to the Mogul. Much love for the 30 day return window!!
Unfortunately I think to get the contacts copied over to Google you'll need to log into your Google account and manually add them.
The nice thing is though, that once you start flashing ROM's they will automatically sync.
I find it much easier to go in and streamline my contacts on my computer.
Also, if you do not use Facebook or have pics to sync up from FB you can add pictures to your Google contacts and they will sync to the phone.

[Poll] Which bug/issue do you wish to get fix in the next official update?

For my experience of coming from ICS to this new official JB release I9300XXDLJ4 BTU.
I liked to see this phone being up-to-date on latest OS and getting better performance (Keep the good work up, Samsung!), but there are still bugs and issue that are found in this rom.
Which bug/issue annoy you the most? and wish to get fix in the next update by Samsung?
1) Lag on opening Contact and Dialer - It is more noticeable in JB, since all other apps open faster but not these two which should get speed up or keep in memory.
2) Multi-task with games and apps - when open 1 game and then play another game at the same time it will close and reload the 1st game from the beginning no matter how many free memory you have. Not cool at all. [Fix: bestMultiTaskingFix 5 by mattiadj read this]
3) Wake up from home button problem - On screen turned off, when press the home button instead of going back to your active apps you use before screen off, it go to home screen. This is very annoying and it affect everyday use. [Fix: No wipe need. Go to Application List -> S-Voice ->Settings -> Keep "Open via the home key" ticked. ]
4) Slow wifi problem - The wifi speed is found to be slower in JB compared to ICS.
5) Gallery full screen problem - There is a black bar on top of Gallery's photo in full screen mode.
6) Battery drain - Some user have report battery drain on JB. It could be likely that it need a full charge after flash to get correct battery level. Some user report flash + full wipe could solve it. I will spend a few more days on test.

My findings with all this
1) I don't notice
2) I loaded up dead trigger & riptide gp, both restart from the point I left them. No idea what I'm doing differently.
3) Not affected by that
4) See 3
5) I don't think it's a bug, maybe a feature of the gallery
Definitely multitasking...

None of those. I would like copy and paste to understand the gaps inbetween sentences and paragraphs ideally don't need removing when copying large bodies of text. It was the same in ICS and I can't believe it's the same with stock JB.

What battery drain? No problems here...
This thread is making me yawn...
Thanks for quoting me! Glad to see that people are taking these problems seriously!
I recently wiped my phone in order to test whether that made a difference. None, unfortunately! I'm a heavy phone user and I notice the little things. I have seen people here saying that multitasking works. YES, it does but with apps!!! Apps resume their state, most games do not! The same games used to resume their state on ICS but they don't on Jellybean. Also, Android System keeps consuming a LOT of my battery. I've got the same setup and the same games/apps on JB as I had on ICS. There's a huge difference! It's quite annoying.
Another thing they need to fix is they need to give the Video Player its own brightness controls. I know that the system controls are just a swipe away but why take away a good feature, Samsung?

It feel that it need to list all the bugs here, this help people finding/raising the solution of the same problem. One day, it could be all solved.
For the battery drain, I am waiting for more of battery stats.
Brightness controls on video player could well be another motion as an option. That would be a good feature to show off.

[SMARTWATCH]Finow X5 AIR Discussion

App name is watch droid assistant

New problems with Finow X Air
I also just recently got my Finow X air. I love it so far, the problem are just...
apparently the X Air it's the only model in the Finow X 5 linee which doesn't turn screen on automatically when you look at your watch.
I fixed this problem by installing th app "gravity screen" and set it so, that if you turn your watch in special angle away from you, it turns off and if you turn watch to you, the screen automatically turns on, so you have both hands free and can see the time (which is core aspect of any watch!)
the problem now is that, x air seems to automatically turn off gravity screen and any other apps opened before in background after 1 minute and resets every setting (I also hate that stock android keyboard, you can hardly write with it on small watch)
So in summary my problems are:
1. We should have an auto turn off and turn on screen by looking at the watch feature
2. Let us change freely keyboards!
3. Both settings should remain, and not just stay for 1 minute.
Do any of you know a fix or solution for this or experience same problems? Thank you for your answer in advance.
I install this launcher http://roundandroidwatches.proboards.com/thread/758/universal-launcher-new-generation-2
And also use Debloater to freeze some apps
Keyboard is ok but aldo you can install Google handwriting keyboard which will aloud you to write 1 letter at the time but it's working fine for me

Also I use some of this faces
http://www.watchfaceup.com/android.php
Regarding the auto turn screen on off problem I found
The app "shake screen on off " from play store works even better than "gravity screen".
You shake your wrist and your watch goes on.
Shake wrist again or just wait a Iittle and it turns off.
Problem is that system still automatically closes every app including "shake screen on off" in background in standby mode..
So I tested it with a stop watch and *after exactly 3 minutes in standby mode the watch closes every open app.*
Can someone confirm this or knows how to fix the autoclose problem?

It seems the watch will close Apps once the screen is turned off. Then there are no notifications at all until you re-open the app. For example, Gmail will not inform me the arrival of new emails, even if it is set up as a push email. Only when I re-launched Gmail, then suddenly a bunch of emails come in. I am not able to use the trick mentioned above to enable push notifications. Are there any other options? Thanks.
Gmail were? watches or phone
I use my watches like a assistant to phone and it's push all notification to watch from phone.
I disabled Watch Assistant and install Watch Droid Assistant it's working great for me
I need to clarify that I am using the watch as a standalone device. It has a SIM and not connected to a phone. I would like to get notifications of emails. But it does not work that way. On an Android phone, I would imagine there is a battery optimization setting that I can uncheck to keep the app alive. I am not sure whether there is something like that on the watch.

Can Strava or similar apps use the built-in hear rate sensor?
Hi people,
Whenever I tried to add new faces by clicking on " + " or when i try to load the Finow Appstore, after some time loading, i get a black screen. Yesterday it worked though. As if it couldn't reach Finow server.
I tried resetting, but it didn't change anything.
Does anyone have any idea?
Thanks!
Hi, I also faced same problem and have fixed it without installing any third party application. Try this .. press center button -> gesture up from bottom -> genture right to left -> genture right to left -> here select the center icon it looks likes torch light.. that’s it .
Thanks for your help, I already tried it, it didn't work.
But today everything works fine, so i guess there wasn't an error on my side, but either on the server's side.
Hi Folks,
I've got the phone for 3 days now and I'm fiddling around with it to see what it can do and what not. I had an Omate derivate with rectangular screen (512MB/4GB, replaceable battery 600mAh) which I found much better to use and which had an sdcard slot. I'm pretty much p...d off that it is impossible to find anything like it with more memory. I found one phone with 320x200 screen in landscape, but only with Android 4.4 and no card slot and not enough memory. So finally, I bought the X5 Air which is not ideal for me, because of too small a battery and the round screen that makes a lot of problems. 2 GB Ram is good, but 16 GB Flash without the possibility to expand is rather mediocre for my purposes aside of the weak battery .
But here I am, and willing to give it a try.
Here is what I did so far:
Rooted with Kingroot
Works, but installs bloatware.
Tested a few launchers:
From the ones I tested I like Evie the most. It works nicely and works quite well with the round screen.
Installed Linux Deploy
Works perfectly. I just copied my installation file from the old phone and can now access the desktop via VNC from any device in the network. Only drawback is that swapoff doesn't seem to work, and obviously it is not a good idea to have a swap space on the internal flash memory of the phone. Defects are prone to happen. With 2 GB, swapping is not necessary, that's why I wanted more memory. More work needed here.
Installed Crono Surf
Looks good, but if I could combine an alternative launcher like Evie with the generic watch face engine, that would be nicer.
Installed Ki4a
Works perfectly, but to access settings, the screen has to be set to the smaller size (rectangular) and it is better to open it in parallel on a normal phone because you cannot read all descriptions.
Installed HERE We Go
Seems to work, but due to the limited flash memory, you cannot download all the maps you would like to have for offline navigation.
Installed Titanium Backup
Works, but some buttons seem impossible to access.
Removed Kingroot
Kingroot installs too much bloatware for my liking. And it cannot be uninstalled via the normal app management (system app). Maybe there is an uninstall routine via the settings in Kingroot, but it cannot be accessed on that stupid round screen. So I used Titanium Backup to uninstall it. Restart after that and Kingroot and Root seem to have gone without trace. Additionally, I reset the device. Until there is a proper way for rooting the X5 Air, I will stay with Kingroot, but it is good to know that I can revert it.
Basically, I can more or less do with the phone what I intended, but one important thing is missing, standard bluetooth tethering. The menus for setting up a hotspot are completely missing. Anybody knows a way or a tool for that?
When I have time I want to try out xposed framework, maybe that can solve the missing options problems, but so far, I really find it annoying to have hardware that is limited by the software. What is this, Apple? Even my 4 yrs old Omate derivate could be easily converted to a fully working android device with homescreen, notification bar etc. And above all it had only 2 buttons but still all the phone navigation actions were possible, incl. a working running-apps list.
Kind regards,
Felix
Do smartwatches support master bluetooth?
Do smartwatches have master bluetooth? I would like to connect speakers or heart monitor strap (I do not like light based ones) to it, and I do not know will it work as it works with a normal android phone.

Apps getting shut down

Is it me or is the app management still buggy? I had this problem on OP3 too [emoji848]
I was editing a video, when done I went to SoundCloud to download a music file. Then I went back to recents and the video app had to start again, making me lose the video I made [emoji849]
What is the use of 6, 8 or even 10 GB ram if the most recent app gets killed?
Very frustrating indeed
Yup, likewise. Particularly when the screen is off, background apps get quite aggressively killed. I've seen this for runtastic and cf.lumen.
I have the same problem.
Have you tried disability battery optimization feature?
I read few minutes ago that it can help and I'm going to try this.
You can also lock the app in the multitasking screen, using the 3 dots. I use it for Plus Beat to cover the missing led.
1. You can disable the battery optimization.
2. It may not be the phone but the app itself that is wonky. The reason I can say this is because I often times play a game and take a break to scroll through social media and reply to somethings and go back and the heavy game is still open. Part of that social media is youtube by the way.
