BOUNTY for Daydream on LOS/AOSP based ROMS - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I think it's time to start a bounty for daydream on LOS based roms. It's the only feature that is still missing so far.
There is also a bug report on Jira
I would drop 20$.
Are there any other contributors?
20$ _phk_
10$ p4ch1nk0
15$ 0Kajuna0
---------
45$ Total

I would contribute up to $10 USD if someone starts this. Virtual Virtual Reality was on sale and I bought it, but it's not split for each eye in LOS.

$15
Not sure if this forum is the most appropriate for the bounty though, as this affects all LOS devices, not just the Axon7. More people than just us can contribute

Hm ... but daydream is already working?!?! Do i miss something?

a few work pretty well. youtube and fulldive let me watch videos, so I'm happy about that. many others either don't show in split screen or show just a black screen.

which other devices That are already supported by Los could get a full daydream support?

Actually i would say that Daydream is only kinda "working" on custom roms right now, but not to the extent Google originally had it in their mind. You can easily see it, if you compare the Daydream-Performance of the rendering as well as the head movement tracking on stock vs custom. When you extensively used it on stock roms, custom roms are still miles away from the daydream feeling you supposed to get, as i described it on my other thread
The jittery head tracking and the performance loss on so far ANY daydream app is not, what our devices really are capable of.
I'm sure there are some kernel "features" or libraries missing, who are necessary for full app support and hardware recognition. From my experiences (and i used Daydream quite a lot in the recent times), it just feels like it.

*BUMP*

$20 from me as well

10$ from me

A solution is found for the non-working apps:
There's a magisk module available here changig the following settings in you build.prop
ro.build.product=marlin
ro.product.name=marlin
ro.product.device=marlin
ro.product.board=marlin
#ro.product.manufacturer=Google
ro.product.model=Pixel XL
ro.build.fingerprint=google/marlin/marlin:7.1.1/NMF26Q/3537182:user/release-keys
After these changes the missing apps also work in daydream mode.

Couldn't you change the properties to the stock ones? I see that custom ROMs use the name 'axon7' instead of the original 'ailsa_ii' which is odd for sure. If Daydream works on stock, and just by emulating another device you can get Daydream apps to work, why can't you change the properties to, well, ailsa_ii?

New owner contemplating lineage flash

Hello,
I am new to android and recently ordered a Leeco pro3 for $120 (couldn't pass it up). I have read that it does not get ota updates in the US, so I have a few questions. Is there any detriment to using an outdated android version? Can I still run apps like facebook, twitter, and Snapchat? If i flash to lineage, will I still have all of the features (camera, Snapchat and facebook apps, etc)? I know the IR blaster won't work, but this isn't an issue. I just have read that certain apps won't work and want to avoid having a phone with no camera or no social media apps such as Snapchat. Thank you all ahead of time.

If all you need is just core functionality then I would there is nothing wrong with running the stock rom. Everything will work right out of the box and all of those apps you mentioned should run just fine. Not to mention you should get really good battery life. With that said if you like some of the features that come with Nougat based roms such as better Doze and Camera API 2 support so you can install apps like google camera and give you camera a nice performance boost then go for it. I have installed all of the aftermarket roms available in this thread and IMHO Paranoid turned out to be the best. I havent had a single issue with it and it has the latest drivers taken from Oneplus 3's source code.

Thank you for the quick response. Given the fact that you have gone through using custom roms, have you been able to use snapchat on Paranoid? I have read that custom roms cause the app not to work. Also, for someone who has never used an android device, how hard is it to flash a custom rom? I am very interested in having a better camera, as I will be coming from a Lumia 950 XL (it has been deteriorating and Microsoft seems to have given up on W10M.). I know that this isn't on that level, but anything I can do to get the gap smaller is good. I am also interested in other features, but have to ask - is your battery life significantly worse running a custom rom? That would be a turn off. Thank you again.

Nope my battery life is near identical to stock and everything works on Paranoid. My favorite thing about it too is that all viarations of Google camera also work which will give you great pictures and videos if you play around with them far better than stock imho. But play with it first you will find that you can do far more on Android than you can windows mobile. The ecosystem just doesn't compare. If you want to to install a rom then follow the guides but make sure you do your homework before just jumping in. It's not difficult but a screw up could brick your phone. But there are also many guides for unbricking as well
Lineage has new Android versions first, but doesn’t have good battery life on this device, use a different ROM. If you want Snapchat, you can use a ROM that passes Safetynet or maybe Magisk’s hide feature. Oreo ROMs don’t pass safetynet, but some other Nougat ROMs do.

This is great news that the camera actually improves. Do you have snapchat issues with this rom? I just want to ensure I am able to enjoy everything android has to offer (well, as much as possible on a year old phone for now), as I have missed quite a bit of apps on W10M.

Paranoid does, so does AICP I think, both for nougut, not Oreo ones yet as SELinux is not working on Oreo. There are others that probably do also, but I haven't tried them yet.

This is tremendous. I am already turning into an android fanboy and I haven't even got the phone. It is quite impressive that the opensource community can get the latest editions stable on these devices. I just saw no need to go buy a galaxy or near $1K smartphone when the SD820 is still a powerhouse in my eyes. Do I have to root to install Paranoid, or just unlock bootloader and flash? (I may be missing a step but am going solely off of how I understood the guides)

SD821, not 820, the model with the 820, the so called elite, has nearly no development.
You have to flash a file to unlock the American model’s bootloader. (The SD821 powered x727 I think it’s called...) the Chinese model x720 has an unlocked bootloader, but is missing US carrier frequencies so it’s worse for Americans.

It looks like there are the same roms though. I even found paranoid. Is the 820 to 821 really that big of a difference? This thing was so cheap.

It stinks because I had an additional coupon bringing this to $120s. A dual sim (necessary for work) phone with a sd820 for that price seemed too good to be true and now it seems it is. However, if I can still get the play store ill be fine on any rom (would prefer a custom).

So ya you got the Elite. I do recall there being a couple of ROMs for that phone just poke around this forum and I believe you will find them.
you can find all the detailed specs here:

The only thing I would really be concerned about is band support and if you will get LTE or not. It looks like its a mixed bag here:

Oreo 8.1 rom Ok Google function.

Hi
As most of us all know that oreo roms are stable and giving good results.but all roms lack Ok Google feature when screen is off.and no one seems to fix it i wonder is it because its difficult or simply because people don't find it compelling enough.
What if i wanted to fix this issue? What would be a good start in the right direction?
Also if any one knows or has info that can help please share.
Thanks

Bro almost all nexus phones have this functionality to activate Ok Google from screen off. I do not know about other manufacturers though but i think it can be turned on in most phones via voice or assistant settings.

All the devs who put out such ROMs can't they just debug or know where code requires modification.??
Also do you know a coder or dev that you think has a chance of doing it.

I don't know what you think who those devs are. I did the oreo bringup for shamu, but I am a hardware developer and my software skills are very limited.
Additionally all devs do it in their free time and for fun. If a feature is not implemented or not fixed then there is a high chance that nobody is interested or able to fix it.
If you want it working then you should learn to debug and to code.

Bro i meant no disrespect to any dev who do such work, i appreciate their hard work . I also realize that they take special time to do such work.I didn't knew much about how its all done. But since you explained, i thank you.
And i think as you mentioned i will look into it myself. :good:
Today i used nokia 6.1 with Android Oreo 8.1 , i checked its assistant and to my surprise it too did not supported ok Google function with screen off.
So my guess is that its more of an Android 8.1 change , they have limited this functionality to certain phones.
This means it is not a bug, and needs some custom coding or programming/modification to make it work again .
Well i think i am isolated but i shall continue to find what ever i can and post .
I read on Reddit post of this problem and a user posted build prop trick where one tricks the Nexus 6 into thinking its a pixel device.
I tried but it didn't worked and also camera app crashed too. Voice match remains greyd out , it did how ever at first showed sign that its working but nope upon real testing it failed.
I then tried switching name to nexus 6p and it enabled one option which was previously greyd out, it allowed me to record and voice and asked for pin to use voice match but then disabled 'use ok google from any screen' option. .... and camera was not working too..
Is it the right direction? perhaps..perhaps not.
Update:
This issue is definitely from Google's server side, the voice match issue is not present on nexus 5 and nexus 7 tablet. here is a thread of ongoing discussion.
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/0GmbO8FgvQg;context-place=forum/nexus
I think Google decided to ditch ok Google screen off functionality altogether from Nexus 6. There tech team never responded to the complaints mad by users. So it's kinda dead now.

I've been looking for a solution to this. I spent a weekend last month flashing various 8.1 and 7.1.X roms and trying to renable it. Same story every time. Apparently Google's just decided we don't get to use this feature anymore. I'm gonna start playing with other assistants (Cortana, Alexa, Hound, Autovoice) and see if any work like we want Assistant to.

Disable vibration, close all and air command?

Are all of the features I put in the subject missing in Android Oreo? I did a search and couldn't find much about them. Just upgraded to Oreo the other day and honestly it feels like a serious downgrade.
I am using Lineage as my daily driver and it is an amazing rom, but Oreo itself it quite the letdown.
Can anyone suggest some mods that will give me air command, screen off write and the ability to close all background apps without needing to swipe each individually?

Lineage OS and Samsung proprietary features like air command, screnn off write, etc don't belong in the same sentence.
Those features are capable only with sammy framework and resources. Which don't belong in LineageOS.
But you can try to buy the Spen command - there is a person on g+ which is selling it as an app - and yes, it will give close ability to use the spen like the original one.

Please include "T-Mobile version compatible"

When developers on XDA create mods, ROMs, etc for the 6t, I'd like to request that they post whether or not it is T-Mobile compatible o, or if they don't know, just post that. And, if someone does find out after the original post whether it's compatible or not, that they add that to the original post.
I know these developers do a lot but this would be helpful to a lot of us who got the T-Mobile version. Thanks.
The answer is yes. It's T-Mobile compatible.
There's no real difference between the devices. If it works on one, it's going to work on the other.
sorry for posting this here, but for some reason, I cant add a new question/topic..
Can you get the home screen to rotate when using the stock launcher on the Tmobile version?
I assume I could with Nova launcher, but I am trying to get used to the built in one..

The answer is yes. It's T-Mobile compatible.
There's no real difference between the devices. If it works on one, it's going to work on the other.

That's not a hundred percent accurate. For example the pixel camera that was ported over had to be changed to accommodate the T-Mobile version. There are some differences. As someone who's not developer I don't know exactly what those are but I do know that there are some differences and there have to be some modifications on some things.

One thing had to be changed. It's because he has a compatibility list built into it based on the device name in the build.prop. He could have checked against a different build string and there would have been no issues. He only does this to cut down on complaints of devices he's not supporting. It was a self imposed limit that was quickly remedied on a device that was a few days old. This is limited to this app only and is not the norm at all. The only other time you'll see something like this is a mod to make the international launcher use Google feed, which the TMobile version already has. Or a mod to bring some feature from the international version to the TMobile version. In that case there's no need to mention it, it's obvious. No need to add a feature/app/mod you already have. And the person who made that will definitely mention that they're bringing the feature to the T-Mobile version.
Edit: also these mods will be few and far between since the way to install those mods will require an unlocked bootloader/root, and at that point, someone will most likely be running the international rom just to stay more current/more features.
Mods will work the same. ROMs will work the same. Kernels will work the same. Magisk mods will work the same. Apps will work the same. The devices are the same.
Your request would make sense if we shared a forum with the OP6. The devices share the same device tree, they are extremely similar, but there are minor differences between the devices that might make a handful of things work on one but not the other.

Thanks for the clarification. I just wanted to make sure I didn't start doing things that caused problems.

Oos or cfw

I have searched but can't find any info specially answering my question.
I previously had a op2 and quickly moved to aospextended and other lineage. The camera was obviously never as good when not using oos.
I have a rooted device and wondering whether it's worth moving away from oos at the minute. Are there any major benefits of the other roms whilst OnePlus are rolling out updates.
Does the camera software suffer ?
What is this, PlayStation?
Anyway, I can't speak to whether camera quality suffers, but it breaks the fingerprint scanner and OP facial recognition so it's not worth switching to me.
I just wish Xposed for 9.0 would get released soon, that'd be amazing

Xposed had been ported unofficially to pie already
https://www.xda-developers.com/xposed-framework-unofficial-port-android-pie/
Not many modules are working however and the source is closed, it's been verified to work but no telling if it's doing anything it's not supposed to.

Yeah, but I wouldn't risk installing it, especially given the nature of Xposed. Closed source hack (which Xposed really is, a one big hack) from an unknown dev, what could go wrong?
