Xiaomi MI2S : A couple of questions to those who know/tried it

Hi all,
I do hope I am asking it in the right place (I didn't want to make a new thread at first, but the closest one I found was locked, so...).
I am willing to buy a Xiaomi MI2S phone. I already know it is only be sold in China (that isn't a problem, actually). I am mostly interested in the 32Gb version, it has really awesome specs.
I have been making a lot of research about this phone and, from what I've seen so far, feedback is positive. That is comforting, to me, but on the same page, I am directly addressing towards people who actually own this phone (or at least have tried it), what are its fails ? Is that phone as perfect as it looks ? Are there some serious flaws/inconveniences with it ?
Second, I also know that the device comes with a specific ROm (MIUI, available in both English and Chinese). I am totally fine with that, as I had a previous positive experience with MIUI roms. But I'd also like to know if, actually, it is possible to customize the phone ? I mean bootloader unlock, root ? Are there some custom roms (well I do mean Cyanogen support, or Cyanogen ports) for Xiaomi MI2S ? These aspects remains a bit unclear, and any piece of information would be much appreciated.

i'm willing to buy this phone too. When my good old LG O2x wil die (Can happen every minute ) So i also did some research.
In my langauge (Dutch) There is a lot of information about it. there is a topic on tweakers.net with lots of users who own the device. They are all very happy with it. Here you go... Ok, it's dutch.. But with the use of a translator.. I guess you can get some interesting things out of it. If not.. I could translate some pieces of text for you to english. Just PM me. Not the whole forum of course
About the ROM's. For as far as i know.. There are still no roms without MIUI.. But i'm not suprised if there are roms without MIUI. Maybe in china..

I know is my first post here, but i own a MI2 (almost same specs as MI2S, last one using krait processor, better camera) since december this year.
So far nothing to complain about:
- with MIUI V5 battery last 2 full days (wi-fi on, push e-mail on, gps on)
- gps accurate about 2-3 meters
- no problem with gsm/3G signal
- display is very sharp, resistant to scratches, maybe some kind of ACG glass (drop it few times on the concrete, last time i forgot it on the top of my car and i go only plastic frame around display deform)
- sometimes it`s shut off by himself (dunno why, maybe i mess around with secondary recovery partition when it was on MIUI V4)
- no laggy at all (over 72 apps instaled)
- overall a good phone, and i like it
- i use it with the native rom and i get via OTA some updates at 2-3 weeks

According to the people i refered to in my previous post..www.ibuygou.com is the best shop for the Xiaomi Mi2S device, when it comes to shipping. Some people in holland say that it takes only 1 day to ship, others complain that it takes more than 3 weeks. It depends on the amount of devices they have in stock.
The prices are great btw, 300 euro / 400 dollar for the 16gb, 350 euro / 450 dollar for the 32gb variant. And max 20 dollars for import
They also have accesoires like back covers, cases, batteries etc.

How fast is the GPS locking on the Mi2S?
This is really the perfect phone, with the exception it doesnt have LTE (does it?)

Its the best smartphone in 4.3" formfactor
Fast, stable
Very good camera
Long lasting akku on (gps wlan,edge)
Out of the box fast and stable no need for custom rom
Beside miui there is a stockandroid rom with english and chinese language
Cons
3g akku drain
Thick and high weight in comparison to s3, htc one
Bad support in fact of defect or something
Sometimes bad reception
Sometimes microphone issues ( mayve only my device)

I am looking for information in the actual state-of-art on modding the phone : is there some safe ways for bootloader unlock, phone rooting ? Are there custom roms actually for Xiaomi devices, or at least, devs working on that ?
These aspects still remain a bit unclear to me, and i'd like to be enlighten on this.

There is no developers support due to lack of source code for the kernel as they refuse to follow the GPL laws. Also. Ok real development team has any respect for the MIUI crew as it is well known they take code from others and don't give anything back. For the these reasons this device will not see any development or forums here.

The question is, do you want BIG and heavy phone (MI3, 5" screen, fullHD) or relatively small but still veeery fast (Mi2S, 4,3" screen, 720p).
Both phones are so fast that rest of parameters doesn't matter, you don't feel the difference....
I am very happy that MI2S have only 4,3" screen, not 4,5" or bigger because I want "compact" but fast phone with 2GB ram.
So I don't care about MI3.

It looks to be one of the better, if not the best designed and executed Chinese phones.
But it also looks like you get what you pay for, particularly for those outside of China. Looking at the discussion about LETV's cheaper sibling, it appears that there are too many issues, some troubling, like the GPS accuracy: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/letv-one-x600-s1-hands-antutu-camera-t3130033
Add to this a not-outstanding camera, update hassles, lack of US LTE bands and likely non-existent support outside of China, and the couple of hundred dollar savings over a flagship from LG, Samsung or Apple don't look like such a bargain.
I am happy to see well-designed Chinese phones, but it will probably take a year or two more before they become real players among the established flagships.

You can update new rom to fix it, maybe something wrong with the button on uperleft of your phone.

Actually I thought it was the TFS launcher that was causing this issue, so I deleted it.. But the problem persists. My phone has no other ROM installed and is up to date.

Hi Guys,
I have been using my letv x800+ for a week now. Nicely designed and a nice rom but with a few crashes now and then.
Cant use Music app since it crashes every time i launch it. Battery time is horrible, dont know if its because of a lot of background processes running? Would it help to root and get rid of some of the bloatware? Any suggestions....ANY?
I get app. 8-10 hours of normal use from my phone !! My previous Meizu MX4 lasted way longer
Im running the latest update from Letv and google play was preinstalled when i bought from SPEMALL

Sorry for asking, but why are you promoting this phone so massively ? I saw you on youtube, here, on gizmochina and on gizchina ?
I bought the letv x800+ and the battery time is horrible... I get 10 hours of normal use from it, and im running stock EUI latest update.
Furthermore there are problems with wifi connectivity, did you try that ?

Just curious what's your general verdict of this phone? I'm very close to click buy so I get to see it for myself but I'm a bit afraid for the software. If it's to poorly optimised the monster specs and great price of the phone doesn't really matter... So what's the worst problem you have encountered and is it worth a shot? Live in Germany so got all the mayor phones here but I really like the design and the price is like half of other phones with same specs, I'm a cheap bastard and I can't help it

X800 is a great device after some modifications: With cucuo ROM you will have German translation + Google apps.
Got mine shipped to Germany from honorbuy for 300 Euro, but price wasn't the main factor for me. Build quality is great and this is overall a very capable device if you can live without LTE band 20 and NFC.

Is cucuo necessary? I don't really need translation, english will work. My plan was just to root it and get rid of all the bloatware and then install another launcher but maybe I should rethink. I thought that because the company is pretty new on the smartphone market the software won't be perfect and it would be good to stay on original rom so you get to updates and fixes as fast as possible, if they come...

Of course it is not really neccessary but it makes things easier as this is already rooted and debloated. As I have no annoying bugs with current cucuo ROM release (been using my X800 for over 1 week as daily driver now) I can recommend this ROM.
Also it seems that cucuo will release new versions based on stable releases, so the upgrade path is not lost.

Would you mind sharing a couple of things abput your experience with the phone? How is the battery life and camera quality? And is the phone overheating or lagging?

Redmi 2A has no Custom Roms at all ... why?

well, mainly because I am one of the stupid ones who bought a Redmi 2A while not living in China ... and the Redmi 2A (HM 2A) is a China only Phone.
It is bad enough that the phone gets sold in US, Europe and India, but in the end, most users are unable to use the Phone, as it only works with 2G connection.. 3G or 4G are mostly not possible to use due to Band Limitation.
So if you are not living in China, do not buy the Redmi 2A!
But anyhow.. how does it comes that there is really NO rom whatsoever for the Redmi 2A to find, noone in China interested enough? Why than the 'huge' custom Rom base with the Redmi 2? .... That really bothers me, as the Redmi2A seems to be a really nice Phone ... and also its selling numbers are not small

Basically,
Kernel sources available=Tons of ROMs
Kernel source depends on chipset variant
Redmi 2A uses different chipset(Leadcore L1860C) than the usual Redmi2(Quallcomm Snapdragon 410 MSM8916).
As many SD410 devices are available in the market with kernel sources relaesed,(and no devices simmilar to Redmi2A having kernel sources released) ketut.kumajaya managed to reverse engineer the kernel and build CM12.1 which was used by others.

I am using a Nexus Experience Rom on my Redmi 2, properbly also just possible due to the unofficial kernel leak.
I always expected the 'damn' Leadcore CPU to be the reason noone ever made a custom Rom for it, but had no real 'proof' of it.
How much I would love to see the Kernel Source for Redmi 2 and with that also the Redmi 2A officially released. Latest then there would be properbly plenty of different Roms with even fewer Bugs (couldn't find one so far in my Nexus Rom)
It simply sucks that they didn't force stopped selling the Redmi 2A outside of China ... they properbly knew already before that this will cause lots of ppl to suffer from bying a Phone that is theoretical unusable in outside countries .. and after it was sold outside China, there should be at least a global rom, it couldn't be sooo hard to translate the default rom.. that alone would help a lot....
Well.. anyways I kind of gave up my hopes to see a kernel release and so I can properbly also give up hope that there will ever change anyhing regarding Redmi 2A...
Need to wait to get my USB Port on Redmi 2A fixed again and then I'll start deleting one after the other bloatware .. untill I really have as few Chinese Crap on Redmi 2A as possible...
Having in the end a List of Apps to uninstall without causing infinite reboot might help already... or finding proper exchanges for some apps in order to get rid of the chinese ones... But thats all i'll see when the USB Port is working for Computer connections too, and not only for charging if you get the USB plugged in in the right angle

it's very hard to develop device if didn't using mainstream SoC i think

The Redmi2A is a Leadcore L1860C cpu. That seems to be one of the main reasons nobody does much with it, because these cpus are everything but mainstream.

It's goodluck that i get the bestest version of Reimi2A.
Only the best version of Redmi2A have the Quallcomm Snapdragon 410 MSM8916.

hmm mine is also redmi2A, but i have no issues playing around with custom roms.
Just FYI, mine is 64-bit! Snapdragon 410 quad-core 1.2-GHz

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro International Version

Hey guys,
There is a international version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro (Kenzo) which also supports LTE Band 20 which is substantial for me considering buying a new phone.
What is also substantial for me, is xda's devs and custom ROM support. So as this obviously is different from the standard Kenzo (also 2 mm thicker), I asked myself if all the Kenzo ROMs will plain work for it, too?
As the networking band support is also part of the system I slightly doubt it. But it would be great. And if so I would by it instantly.

It does work. I had a kenzo without band 20 and had RR ROM installed. Now i flashed my new Kate with the same rom but with Kate Modem.zip and I have it fully working with good LTE 4g reception.

That sounds great. As you own the phone and it sounds like also some time now, are there any concerns to consider about it? Like something is really bad? Camera, fingerprint, sound, display?

I just got the Special Edition with the 11/11 sale. I always thought Special Edition and Internation Version were the same thing! Now my question is: what's the difference between these two versions, besides the 2mm?
As for ROMs (and even accessories): Kate I feel has enough options to allow me to have made this purchase, especially since I won't be changing them every other day.
EDIT: Look at the specs deep into the Gearbest page:

It's the International/Special/Kate edition - not Kenzo+ as you thought.

Got my hands on the unreleased lemax 3 (don't ask how) but the eui sucks and the phone has too many bugs, I just wanted to know that is there any rom in which I could use it

Also, as for the answer to your question, you won't find any ROMs for that device right now cause.. well, it's unreleased

Well i was just thinking that I can install the rom of lemax 2 or pro 3,
as for the device I got it from a company worker as u can see in the pics it has some serial no printed in the whole phone
It's specs are :- 2560*1440 resolution 5.7 inch screen, Android 60.1, snapdragon 821 with 6 gb ram 64 gb storage, 4000 mah battery 13 mp dual cam secondary is black and white cam front 16mp.

How will you install the ROM? Since it's unreleased, there's no recovery. Moving on, you can try installing a ROM from the Le Pro 3 forums, but it'll surely be extremely unstable and buggy. @anmolsraj Where did you purchase the phone, from what reseller? Please don't say TinyDeal.. I was about to order one there, it might have saved me from a doomed day.
Please let us know from what source you got your device. It looks like a weird model because those models normally have one camera sensor and not two (in the rear)? Yeah the cool dual has two cams but the x7xx models should not have them?

That's because that phone is an Le Max 3. An unreleased phone. The OP must've got it from a friend who's related to LeEco. Don't expect to get it as of now.

I looked at TinyDeal on uhm trustpilot. Not going to buy it there haha..
Looks like they buy and ship after buying stock hence the price they also declare the item as its real value. Meaning that customs will rape ya.

Too bad.. I was hoping that this phone would work with Android Nougat, so that we could extract the ROM from it.
We could then have port it on the Max2 or Pro3.
