Why is the settings app like this? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

So I ran into a bootloop issue and flashed stock firmware via Odin on my Galaxy S8 Specifically the (G950FXXU1AQDG_G950FEVR1AQDG_EVR) on my (SM-G950FD). It was successful. However, settings app was cluttered now. I am having all the options and not the categorized one. It's like having duplicates. I already did re-flash the firmware and did reset to factory default settings but it's still the same. I cannot get back the previous one that was properly categorized.
Anyone know how to fix / change this?

before, settings was organized into categories but now, all settings under those categories are also available outside. See those Airplane Mode,Wifi,Bluetooth,Data Usage,Mobile Network,More. They were supposed to be under or inside "Connections" category.

Strange indeed, on some phones in the top right corner of the settings page you should have a 3 dot menu that allows you to pick a different view but this view is ridiculous.

i had this issue on my s7 right after i flashed my country's CSC via odin, was using full BTU software including CSC but when i flashed Egypt's CSC on BTU firmware this happened, simple solution is to try flashing a different country's CSC and see if the problem is resolved

I was thinking of maybe CSC could be the reason but when i have flashed back to stock, i only flashed the AP, BL, and CP. Is it okay to only flash CSC? Also, my phone is currently rooted right now. Would it be an issue?

dont think root would be an issue or related to it, i know it was the CSC cause i only flashed CSC right before it happened, and when i flashed back BTU CSC settings came back to normal

try downloading this BTU Software-
try flashing BTU files (the same files you flashed before with New Zealand's firmware) if it's still there then i guess you gotta flash CSC with a factory reset, at least this is how it worked for me on my S7

KE2 to another version?

Hey all,
I just got my new galaxy S II and want a custom rom in it, but i have a question about the firmwares:
I have the firmware version of KE2 and maybe its a stupid question, but is it possible to upgrade to another or just flash a ROM with another version?
I am waiting to hear from your nice knowledge to share with me

Thanks for your reply, but my question was actually: can i upgrade my firmware (KE2) to another with another name like KE8 or KF1? Thanks anyway

You can flash any version of a firmware to your phone regardless of what it is starting out on.
if you wish to you can flash your KE2 to either of the ones you meantioned via odin.
There is detailed guides on this in the dev section that arent too hard to follow and are a good read to understand the process to do this.
Nobody ever says if an update implies a hard reset or not.
I know You don't have to wipe(hard reset) if the csc stays the same, but what if it changes (e.g.: from ITV KE2 to polish KF2)? Losing all the settings is not acceptable...

Hard reset is defined yes or no in the instructions .
Standard update NO hard reset .

If the CSC changes then you have flashed the wrong firmware +CSC
You want ITV csc then flash ITV firmware with an ITV csc .

So the thing I read that if you flash a foreign (e.g. xeu) firmware over a local one (e.g. itv) you have to wipe is false... Good to know, that's the thing that has been keeping me from updating.

If you change the CSC on the phone that may wipe .
but if you have CSC say ITY and flash firmware ITY its the same but if you flash XEU then to get it to replace ITY after the phone boots you may need to change in the phone the CSC that may need a factory reset if its not shown as XEU CSC
You dont really need a CSC all it does if give a list of networks and a sales code in text and xml files .
No CSC or wrong CSC just enter networks APN details manually .
IF you have CWM you can back the original rom up before any flashing and use that to recover from wipe .

You can use this app to change your CSC. However, two things.
A. You need to be rooted beyond XXELLA
B. Your selected rom needs to support multi csc
( tried that before but doesn't work as its unrooted and on stock software

It should work, but you need to root if you're on XXELLA or above
Sorry not that much of a techie :silly: what is XXELLA? So it doesn't need to be rooted? Because when i press change CSC it comes up with com.android.preconfig not found on your device and takes me to the dialer with *#272*1759# already punched in?? After ringing that I get Connection problem or invalid MMI code.

Xxella would be a 4.1.2 firmware.
It would look like your stock setup doesn't have a multi CSC setup so I'm not sure if you're able to change to BTU

if I am not wrong you need:
(1) be rooted to change the CSC
(2) after that you can use the tool mentioned before and/or flash a BTU rom
or maybe easier:
just flash the newest 4.3 rom version (you can do this without root as well I think)
Flash the latest 4.3 rom for the UK, using odin and following the guide in sticky thread.
Factory reset from recovery, reboot and csc should match the firmware.

I'm pretty sure this method will default the CSC to "KOR"
You want to flash the ELL4 U.K. firmware from the stock firmware thread. Download the S2/S3 CSC changer app from the play store and set the CSC to BTU.
This will factory reset the device, so make sure you have your important files backed up.
Then proceed to flash MK6 4.3. Now everything will match.

I want to flash the latest firmware for the S7 Edge - https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/122404/G935FXXU1DQB3_G935FOXA1DQB1_BTU/

S7 edge update to 7.0 on UK networks

I've got my phone thru EE and checked for update to 7.0 but nothing as of yet.
Has anyone in the UK received update to 7.0 and which network?
I'm thinking updating via Odin but I've read some people knox tripped using odin which is very unusal. Anyone else had the same issue?
Thanks
update
I've updated my to nougat via odin and no know tripped. Void counter remains 0.
Hi,
I'm also in the U.K using an Un-Branded Sim Free s7 edge.
I use many of the Uk Payg Networks.
You would need to wait until Samsung have sent the Firmware to EE for them to test and send back with any requested refinements and then would be pushed out to your phone. This can delay things a bit.
The Firmware should be pushed out to me directly from Samsung. (Still waiting)
Samsung U.K advised me its being sent out in waves.
Have you received update?
How are you finding it?
Thanks

ODIN doesn't trip Knox. Where did you read this exactly?
No networks have released network firmware. The only UK users to get Nougat officially are those with handsets that use stock UK BTU firmware.
If you only want Wi-Fi calling then flashing Nougat through ODIN is fine.
If you want VoLTE as well, then you need to flash the Nougat BETA 1 CSC in ODIN as well

Always flash together. All files from main release, but Nougat BETA 1 CSC. This of course will wipe your phone. Do a smart switch or Samsung cloud back up. It won't save app data, but it'll save all your .apk files, messages etc

Hasn't worked for everyone else. I lost WiFi calling when I went from EVR to BTU. I used Odin and flashed all files except HOME_CSC.
I'm not sure if this will help but I had similar problem with WiFi calling not working on Vodafone after flashing BTU when it used to work with BTU MM. Someone suggested to disable WiFi calling through the Vodafone app and enable it again, this fixed the issue. Do EE have a similar app or process you can try?

S8 Active Help (Baseband version is G892AUCS3BRG1)

Hello guys, I have just now heard that At&T is rolling out the Android Pie update to the S8 Active. Unfortunately, I do not have a AT&T SIM card on my device currently. This causes my phone to not get ANY updates. The only update I last got was when I sent my phone to a Samsung Technician after I bricked my phone from failed root attempts. I am currently in Android 8.0.0. Is there any way to flash any Pie firmware to my phone even though it is Bootloader v3? Any help is GREATLY appreciated as I am getting so tired of Oreo. I tried using Smart Switch but it says my phone is in the latest firmware update which is a lie, my security patch level is July 2018...
Edit: I have recently unlocked my phone from AT&T in hopes of getting an update, but I didn't know the firmware would stay. And no, I do not have ANY access to AT&T SIM cards or stores.
Edit 2: Solved! I just used a firmware download I got from this forum because sammobile.com did not have it here it is: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bw-cYNY1KoEH4Pa-a9dJRQJW09r_uw93/view Just flash this firmware to your phone from Odin! This does not risk breaking or voiding your warranty if you still have one! I am enjoying Pie right now! Give thanks to the who supplied me with the firmware link and youdoofus who actually responded to me. I just wanted to be assured that the firmware that is Pie will be good for my device. This is for people who do not have ATT SIM on their phone or cannot receive update. Model number must be from ATT and SM-G892A!

the problem youre going to run into is the availability of firmwares for your phone. sammobile.com/firmwares was a bust, looking elsewhere for ya. But if you have a computer, usb type-c cable Odin and the correct firmware version and are able to get to download mode, then you should be in good shape.
So I have a firmware at hand with my phone model that is pie, if I update it through Odin, will it void my warranty? Or will there be any chance it will brick my phone because I have done this many times. If it wasn't for ATT bootloader v3 I would've not been asking all these questions. I have already used sammobile.

Some tips before flashing? Did you flash every file on the .zip archive? (BL_ , AP_ , CSC and so?)
Factory reset before/after flashing?

Since its just an update, you are able to keep your data if you put HOME_CSC in the bottom box. So, yes use every file if you want to keep your data. If not, put CSC where its supposed to be and thats it. I don't have access to my computer but thats what I did. You don't need factory reset. Just go to any "How to Install Any Firmware Update through Odin" Video on YouTube and you should see a good tutorial. It is just an update. I hope I fixed you problem! Don't be nervous about updating, only be nervous when you flash a ROM on it!

nothing other than having the correct version of Odin for your phone and ADB drivers installed along with the correct firmware files. And yes the Home_CSC is to not factory reset, and the regular CSC is to factory reset it
PIT Error
I tried flashing the files you provided, but it keeps failing on "Get PIT for Mapping". I tried 4 times and every one failed on the same part. I am on the exact same baseband version you were on, the provider is AT&T and the phone is unlocked. I don't get what the problem is...

you need to go into the CSC file and extract the PIT. once extracted, go into the other options in Odin and put the pit in its slot, then reflash with the CSC you got the PIT from in its proper place along with the others.

The CSC is just a compressed file, so WinRAR will do it if 7zip doesnt

I did that but it didn't change anything. Do I need to remove the pit file from the CSC file?
