Shield Tablet Update 5.2 - Shield Tablet General

I've seen a few references to it being released on the Nvidia forums.
Has anyone gotten it yet? Any possibility you could zip it and post it for those who haven't?

nope not in the uk yet

5.2 ST update will come in upcoming weeks. Being tested as developer preview atm. ?

Oh great ! The support for Nvidia shield is amazing.

What forum have you seen this on?

Hmn.... Not to be a mean sport for everyone but this shouldn't even be announced yet since it's a preview version and there's an NDA for members. So even download links and other related info shouldn't be discussed or exposed.
I inquired similarly for preview 1/update 5.0 (wasn't a member back then) and I got a good ethical spanking from the senior members here. Something about XDA integrity and stuff. Took me some time to get it.
Just know that Nvidia developers are really working hard to keep this amazing device alive and operate competitively with latest flagships. If the NDA gets massively and openly broken, we might all suffer coz they can decide NOT to support this device any further. :/
In the GeForce forums, the developers are actively taking our suggestions, complaints and wish lists for Shield Tablet seriously. So let's just keep it up.

You could try following the link given by an nvidia representative here:

Fill out the form on the link, reference battery charging problems. You should get the preview pushed.

Maybe. But I'm sure the admins (here and at Nvidia) are smart enough to distinguish intentions throughout this thread.
This reminder is a response to the OP. I wish everyone can have access. I really do (esp when you're frustrated with the current build). But the developers have their own process that I thought needed some respect. I'm actually grateful that they still bother updating this 3 year old device.

The point of my post is that nvidia made this a public beta as soon as the Nvidia representative on their forum made the comment I linked. My only intention is to help spread information that is publicly available. Now please get off your high horse, and my a$$, until an XDA moderator has a problem with what I've said.

Know what - I feel the same! And here I thought someone is trying to be a smart ass by dropping the bomb first and needed some intellectual response.
Enough trolling. Seems we both overlooked each other's intention and might have rubbed off some ego the wrong way. For that I apologize.

I do apologise for my antagonism. I really was just trying to help originally. I notice the 5.2 preview 2 post on Nvidia forums early last week. Seeing as I don't have any problems with my current install I felt no need to update myself, but if it will help someone who might be having problems I thought I'd share.

XDA/Samsung the merge

Hello Guys,
My name is John, I recently became the social media analyst at Samsung mobile. I wanted to start opening the lines of communication between XDA and Samsung. First I wanted to say I have noticed your work on our devices on the XDA forums. I think you guys do an outstanding job, I myself am a developer for mobile devices. So let’s get down to business, we’re going to be in Austin from March 10-15 for the SXSW(south by southwest http://sxsw.com/convention). I was wondering if any of you guys are going so that we could meet up and share a couple of ideas I have. I am looking forward to meeting some of you GREAT developers!
Thanks in advance,

First things first.. It would be nice if you guys made a roadmap for stuff under development for our phone. At the moment, we have no idea which bugs are getting fixed or when. And we have no idea what's being worked on. We don't need a accurate timeframe, simply an indication of what's being worked on
Even better, track the serial numbers/IMEI of the phones, and allow each owner to vote on where development should be targeted (such as what Dune HD does). You could even make an application on the Samsung store to let us vote directly on the phones (which might make it even better).
I wont be there in Austin (too far), but I think what I have mentioned is important, because Samsung tech support is unresponsive and horrible (when you send them a bug by email, you NEVER get a response). However, by at least implementing a voting feature, poor tech support suddenly becomes less relevant.
I have a simple suggestion. Samsung are really ontop when it comes to hardware but we haven't seen any advancement in battery technology. Perhaps, as well as focusing on samoled screens power saving prowess, we could address where we are on the battery side of things. So many features require a modern battery.

Let's not turn this thread into a laundry list of things we want from Samsung. That's not the point and it'll just spiral out of control.
I think that this is a big and important step from Samsung, which they should have done earlier, to be present instead of being silent all the time.
It's for sure that there is brilliant developers at XDA that has done some excellent work, imagine how much they could have done if there someone they could get answers from when the questions do present them self.
Is this a joke or somthing ?

Hey John, first of all welcome here !
I this this is very interesting you come! Look, you're page 12 of the the Open Source strategy I shared with Samsung Korea
http://bit.ly/hNJ38m
Hehe I don't know if this is coincidence or consequence, but it sure demonstrate a lot of common interest, and is an excellent news for Samsung and XDA developers !
John and you guys what think of my document now made public?
PS: does your initiative comes from Korea or you didn't shared yet? I must tell you about a few people there
It's great to see Samsung getting involved here. I hope this is not just for PR purposes, Samsung and the customers would get huge benefits if you work together with the developers here.
For a start, I recommend you take a good look into the work that members Supercurio and Hardcore on this forum have done, and work on implementing them into your own firmware.
The difference the 3rd party firmware on the Galaxy S makes is huge. It's faster, the screen looks sharper and better, and the new sound drivers they have worked on are brilliant. The two members I mentioned seem to be the main ones contributing to this.
How about not fragmenting Android and talking to the devs about the best way to allow them access to all the firmware and drivers that are currently not open sourced? (NDA for select devs maybe?)
This would give you all the love you require form the Members here

Kernel Discussion

So when the kernel is released what will that mean for us. What kind of things can we look forward to?
Is pending some license/certification completion issues.
Thats what my email from elocity said in my latest response from them. Hoping it's sooner than later. Even explained in the email why getting the kernel released would be good for thier business. They need to deliver something whether it be the A10, the kernel or upgrade options. Wonder how possible that would be. Send your A7 in to get the multitouch screen put in. Anyways when I hear anything I will post more.
With kernel source every developer could:
- make a full ROM (kernel + any version of Android from released sources)
- improve stability and performance
- fix issues before official techsupport
- add new features
That's so important!
If we would get kernel source in summer - that might be too late. Many eLocity owners might change their devices to new Xooms, Flyers, Asus eeePads, Samsung 8.9s and etc...
That is basically how I worded it in my email, pointing out that everyday more people are selling thier a7's and getting a different device. And that if they released the kernel it would practically eliminate that. Also that thier company needs to release something soon, yet to see any branded accessories a10 is delayed and our a7 we want the kernel. give us something before you lose your future market.
I think they have to much on there hands with a10, maybe after they will release something for the a7, keep your fingers crossed

Zipping files and emailing them takes about 2 minutes ... doing so will relief them from working more on the A7 has the community will be able to developpe stuff for the A7, otherwise the A7 will just die there.
I suggest we all email [email protected] and ask for those files to be released ASAP.
I would even say that someone just write an email template to copy and paste that email
If they care about having a future market the sooner they release the kernel the better.

I am not going to make this live, I don't know what kind of legalities would be involved if eLoicty found a flood of e-mails harassing.
You might want to add that XDA and Dexter are even in big reseller's review (Aka Tiger Direct) ... wich is mainly why people would buy an A7 has of today ...

I am not publishing it anywhere, I just made the template and created a Gmail account to track how many people use it, if any.
Like I said in the post, I don't know what kind of legalities would come into play should eLocity deem it harassing. With the whole thing being able to be composed and sent in 2 clicks I can see it being easily abused. I don't plan on being the fall guy should it result in thousands of messages.

Dexter what are your thoughts on this?
Here is an encouragement from eLocity Team :
Regarding the kernel information, I have been working to get our overseas team to release it so developers can really take the A7 to new heights. I am hoping to be able to share the kernel info soon and will certainly reach out to Dexter, the XDA community and others so they'll have a new tool to make exploring and developing easier.

Sorry, I didnt see this thread when I posted the other new thread...but there is some slightly newer info there.
Kernel
If they release the code does that have any impact on anny new releases of the OS for the A7? Are we assuming the eLocity is done? Is there any chance for a major upgrade before they are done?
@masterfred: your quote from them confirms all my suspicions.
"Over seas development team" my ass. eLocity is just a reseller, at most installing a different launcher and fielding (not to the best of their ability btw) the tech calls. Compal has been the ones pulling the strings the whole time.
So where does it go from here? I have very little faith that Compal will be on any rush to help the development community. They even backed out of marketing this tab under their own branding. I don't trust companies that operate from.the shadows like that.

If you google the whats above you will find many places that reps stated elocity plans to release the source/kernel so keep smiling and be patient.

[occupy nvidia]how you can help

First of all I'm no trying to troll nor spam, I am a T-mobile G2x user and over at the G2x forums we started a thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360051 this thread is to get nvidia to release the source code for the tegra 2 chip, this way we can get more stable roms and yes fully functional ICS build.
I'm only doing this because the Atrix uses the same tegra 2 chip, thanks for your understanding.

Hello,
Please release source code for the Tegra2, so the developers can support our mobile devices and tablets better and faster. I want to take more advantage of the Tegra2 chip inside my Motorola Atrix 4g and hoping that you could give the community a hand about this.

Thank you/
Email sent.
Email sent - also if anyone is wondering what to say, here is what i sent to them...may not be perfect but it gets the job done:
Hello. I am writing today to ask that you please release the source code for the Tegra 2 chip to the public.
As you most likely know, the android os has a very large developer community. With this community comes ground breaking software development and can also make an already great product become an even bigger product.
An example would be Samsung hiring the lead developer of the CyanogenMod7 custom Rom for Android.
They also gave the team one of their latest devices for further testing.
Now that device is one of the most sold Android phones of 2011.
The Tegra chip has a following already because of the little bit of development that we have been able to squeeze out of it with out the help of Nvidia. (source code)
But we believe and know that we can develop upon it even further and show Nvidia and others what the Tegra is really capable of. Which in turn will bring more interest to the chip and devices that carry the chip and that just means more sales.
It is only a win-win situation.
Thank you for reading.
Sincerely
a Nvidia customer.
you guys are asking for specific stuff in a very generic matter. nvidia has a git hub with tons of stuff already! and im sure if you ask them for ics tegra2 drivers for the atrix or g2x they will deliver.
as for nvidia helping devs, its happend!

I agree with changing the title in case anyone from nvidia see the thread.
however, I would leave any sort of "occupy" verbiage out. due to the recent media coverage of everything "occupy" related, it's not entirely a positive way to bring about change to what we want as far as code.
it seems a tad bit brutish to use that word to request something at this point.
imo.

Yeah, the thread title is a bad (polarizing) choice imho. I have enough trouble occupying my own space. And I certainly don't want to be seen in any sort of occupy movement. I work for what I have/want/need (and as an added bonus, to support the wants/needs of the occupiers, hurray for me!). But since the spirit of the thread isn't that sort of nonsense, I'm in. Message sent.
And no griping at me because I bit at the title... It was just sitting there staring at me with those "I want your stuff" and "Are you crazy? No I don't want to work for it" eyes...
Since I never do anything at work I will send them an email, spread this around, contact engadget, gizmodo, and more. I really want the ATRIX to become active. Its been dead around here a little.

[Announcment] Asus Tech Support Now Partnered with XDA

Ok that may be an exaggeration but that's what it sounds like from the less than helpful response I got from an Asus representative. I'm just sharing my experience because it really pissed me off. See the email below. I dont expect things to be fixed right away I know bugs are part of new devices, but I dont appreciate getting brushed off and referred to a site that technically has nothing to do with Asus. I love XDA, its a very helpful and informative site, but I don't think XDA is on the Asus payroll for tech support.

Dear Mr. x,
I'm sorry, but I do not have any information on future release features. I suggest you follow the threads on the XDA forums pertaining to these issues to get the latest information.

Unaware of any bug. Aware of settings.
Under settings - ASUS customized settings - Battery Saving - MobileDock Battery Saving mode - *you want the box left empty*
After opening your tablet while docked click any button on the keyboard to wake up your tablet.

With him. Nver had a problem. Hell, I can wake mine by dragging my finger across the trackpad. That is why The CSR was confused
I think you are missing the point. And yes I am aware of the settings. I have had multiple conversations with Asus about this bug. On the .17 firmware, the action of opening the tablet from the dock would wake the screen. I know its a small thing but I don't like the response from Asus, check XDA for the latest information. That is the point of the post.
i tend to look at the other way. asus seems connected with their customer via xda. i guess they could make their own forum for that but why not use a forum where "geeks" hang out. we provide them with free user testing.
Haha, I can see how that can be taken as sarcasm/brush off by the OP. Kind of a compliment as well though. Hell, I come here for any problem, I've never contacted a manufacturer.

Yeah.....I'm gonna file this under "Not an issue."
1. You know it's a small thing.
2. Checking XDA, while you may not like it, is good helpful advice.
Gary Key he joined XDA right after my social media attack the little spy/awesome guy

At some point, probably more user are checking XDA for updates / news, than asus.com.
Especially in the time of OTA updates.
Yeah, I've never actually been to Asus.com except once while I was researching the TF300. I found out about the .29 update and the unlock tool from here.

I agree with you, I get more info from the forums but that shouldn't be the response from the manufacturer. I bought this tablet and dock for my mom also. She knows nothing about XDA or anything like that. She would contact Asus for support or more likely call me for support (fml).
Oh well, I'm unlocked now so Asus support is useless to me but they still need to know about bugs in there devices and take the appropriate action to fix them, not redirect that responsibility off to forums or google.

Hi!
I approve with your criticism, ASUS should keep a firm grip on their stuff out of formality. But here's a different approach:
Would you rather him redirect you to the ASUS website, download section?
When western CSR's work for asian-based companies, they have to rely on the few teleconferences and Excel roadmaps, they know about future updates, but the local CSR's only know a few fixes, and no release date depending on what service level agreement the developers work on. Also when a CSR or his manager gets information, there's a stamp "Internal only" almost all the time, not everything ends under "what to tell customers who complain about [list of bugs]" in their handbook, it should but let's step back a little.
Let's compare with a company that does updates very often: Microsoft. With Windows Update. MS removed the necessity for CSR's to inform when this and that will be fixed - unless you are IT professional, you will be referred to automatic updates. After the release of a fix Microsoft doesn't tell you exactly what the security update does, you can find a link in their website that says along the line: "vulnerability take control of your computer remotely", and details whether it affects Office, and how long it takes to download it at 56kbps lol. When you surf a bit and find the IT Professional bulletins regarding the same update, wow: a link to a general article going over the list of fixes released at that date, and oops - they forgot the very hotfix you were looking into. It is hell not to know what a fix does, and Microsoft gives us all kinds of problems because many fixes breaks other features and they don't know it until they get failure reports.
Asus doesn't document everything in one place for every CSR in the world to get access to in real time. Roadmapping future bug fixes is plain dumb: you focus on fixing as much as possible before the deadline, rather than keeping detailed forecast bulletins for a small cluster of users who, sorry if I offend you there, desire to be respected as a technically knowledgeable customer.
I believe you were given a respectful or at least a sensible response. Apart from the community feedback to the manufacturer, "geek forums" reward curiosity and need for speculations, when no information is available it is the best way to satisfy a user who shows interest in a product's evolution rather than accept it as it is and give it a bad review like most people do.

[APK Teardown Exclusive] The HTC Myst Facebook Phone – The Facebook App Is Now A Laun

We’ve managed to score a system dump of the Facebook phone! There’s nothing in it that’s too earth shattering, and you could probably guess most of the features, but, since we’ve got it, we might as well take a look at it.
[This is not an April Fool's joke. I promise.]
Now, this being Facebook, nothing really works unless you sign in. The problem is, all of this is pre-release, so it’s set up to only work for Facebook employee accounts. Everything is basically packing unintentional always-on DRM, so screenshots are going to be a little sparse.
Source
And this system dump isn't available anywhere for download, right ?
(And yes I read the articles; No download URLs I saw.)
Yeah so........ you have the system dump but you're not going to share it with anyone???
Who are you talking to ?
Nobody here has it AFAIK.
One of the sites had an article author who had it, but AFAICT he hasn't released it and it hasn't otherwise been uploaded anywhere known.

Well obviously since the OP says "we have a system dump." I was probably talking to the OP genius.

He quoted from the source linked.
When the thread is in the development section with the title apk breakdown exclusive, it kinda leads me to believe there is a download link and apk.
Should of been posted in general section to not confuse Facebook home fans.
