Hi all,
first post here.
I recently purchased the Galaxy S8 - love it!
A friend told me that using the power button regularly will damage the button. Is this true?
the friend also recommended using a Screen Lock/ Off app to use this (similar to the iOS quick ball)
Any thoughts?
How would regular use damage it? If you're skeptical, use the fingerprint unlock feature.

Thanks for the reply. Exactly my point. Samsung would make these buttons with a very good usability time span right?

And to lock? the power button?
It's a little finicky compared to the iPhones... The buttons are bigger and more clicky on the iPhones. Can't really fault the galaxy though since that edge screen use up half of the side bezel.
The power button is there for a reason. Use it.
Don't be silly, no it won't break...
Thanks all for the help

30 seconds for timeout is the setting I use....no power button push to lock required!

or just search and install Softkey Edge from Galaxy App and use it from edge side.

Hi guys, new Note user here. Love the device, amazing piece of tech. Few questions: volume rocker is bit loose. Anyone with this issue? How do I access Google music, there is no app just the Samsung one. When the screen is off, pressing home button wakes the device. Any way to disable it? Thanks a lot.

Now I will be getting the Note 2 soon. I own a Samsung Galaxy R or less commonly know as Samsung Galaxy S2 Tegra. Google Music isn't really worth the trouble. Might I suggest PowerAmp. Its the best audio player available on the Play Store. Its for 5$ currently I got it for 2$ when it was on limited sales discount.
About the phone waking up when you hit the home button. Looks like you have disabled the screen lock. Go to Settings>Security>Screen Lock>Select Swipe with No Pattern.
Hope this helps.

Hi.
I'm so used to having a power button either on the front or on the side of the phone I think I'd struggle to get used to it where it is on the one. Does anyone know if it's possible to wake the phone using the volume rocker would make life so much easier.

Yep its possible with root access.

good point...I hate designs with on/off/wake button placed on top furthermore on top left side. I loved my SGS3 with precisely placed wake button. Additionaly the volume rockers are flat and in one plane with the phone body so there wont be any accidental on/wakes should be really great to wake with them...

Thru modding keychars or keylayout. Sorry forgot but you just need to add a word there to the designated key number.

Firstly, Mod if there is already a thread on this topic please move my post there.
I'm experiencing serious problems when trying to take a screenshot with the palm swipe. I had no problem whatsoever on my S III. I'm disabled & can't use the shortcut.
Ideas? TX

I find holding the power and the home button is more convenient for a screenshot, try that maybe?

Won't work for me as I have limited movement in my hands.

Is there anything blocking the sensor at the top? (Screen protector, case, etc)?

No. I have a Cimco TPU case (more like a sleeve) & it's not blocking the sensor.

I just tried the palm swipe and I realized I had to press on the screen with more force than on the S3 (I've tried both). Also I think air gesture has to be toggled on (as well as palm motion obviously )

Hmm. I'm pretty darn sure air gesture is toggled too but will check again. I'll also try pressing harder.

Just remembered to respond. Air Gesture was turned off. That said, I remember taking a few screenshots just after I got the phone & AG was definitely off. I also read a bit more about this feature. Supposedly you can hold a finger ~3" over the sensor & it'll activate. Not on my phone...

It's been my experience that I have to physically touch the screen in order for the screen wipe to take a screenshot. I've also found this feature somewhat unreliable as it sometimes moves the screen and then takes a shot of a screen that I have no interest in.

Out of curiosity, is there any chance that fingerprint scanner can be used to LOCK the device as well?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I dont think that is possible. But isn't power button faster than Fingerprint scanner?

If you're finger sits there all the time you'll soon get annoyed at all the accidental turn offs.

Is anybody finding it very easy to accidently catch skin on the edge of the screen and this interact with the device? I never had this issue with the S6 Edge but I'm finding sometimes whilst I'm typing or selecting things the phone will lag because it's detecting a second touch from my hand where I'm holding it.
I thought maybe this could be software related as surely something will be built in to cut out accidental touches?
