Quick flashing question - Google Pixel XL Guides, News, & Discussion

I can't remember what the order was, because I remember it's something odd. Isn't it flash rom, then flash recovery, then reboot back into recovery, and finally flash vendor?

thats is correct. then reboot and flash supersu if u want root.

I've been leaving root off, allows for android pay and tbh I really don't use anything that requires root, the rom (pure nexus) offers enough customization and ability for me all on its own

is unrooted phone able to flash zip?
You just need a custom recovery to be able to flash zips. Rooting doesn't affect this.

No. You need to unlock the bootloader (and keep it unlocked) for the custom recovery to work.

Need some help from the Recovery Gods

I have a pre_MF3 phone but my gf has this device with NC1 Bl, I was able to use geohot's root method to acquire root access. I have supersu installed but can't update binaries. I tried using goo.im to install a recovery but that seems to have failed (it says it installed successful). Each to I try to reboot recovery it boots into DL mode and will continue doing that until I pull battery and force a it into the "booting a custom software" screen to which then I can push vol down and restart it normal but cannot in anyway get it into recovery mode. I'm assuming this may have to deal with it being a "loki'd" recovery? Does this seem like a plausible issue? If it is what's the chances of say, since we can install I9505 roms that we could install the un- "loki'd" I9505 custom recoveries? Also, this isn't packaged with a recovery so, I'm assuming the best method of installing a recovery may be odin? Any feedback would be nice, Thanks in advance

Bootloader is locked. You can't have recovery besides Safestrap on any version past MDL 4.2.2. You'll have to reflash it with ODIN to fix the recovery issue and use Safestrap to flash ROMs.

Do you understand what I'm talking about ? Geohots newest root method that works on the s5 and everything? If so I guess what you're telling me is this isn't a true root method but merely a way to get a ss installed?

I guess I was thinking this was a true root method. It does make sense that I'll need SS seeing as how the other recovery isn't working. I'll go try installing SS

Root is not the same as a bootloader unlock. Older phones only needed root, now that we have complicated locked bootloaders with checks we need more than just root to install a custom recovery and ROMs.

No I understand and that is all my fault. I guess all this hype made me think it was a true unlock. Not just root. Im sure the hype was mostly over s5

Has emoji switcher or any other methods of changing emojis been working for any of you on 6.0? I've tried emoji switcher and flashing a zip and nothing. Also I wanted to confirm xposed is working I used the wanam v83 sdk23 arm version. I'll most likely just make a nandroid backup of this stock and switch back to cm13 as a daily driver soon since I prefer it. Cheers.
I could spend the recovery in .tar , please?
the recovery works perfectly !! Thank you

Q: Anyone know I can root without PC?

NO PC RECOVERY FLASHING METHOD
As always flash at your own risk. I am not responsible for what you do to your device.
So Santod040 took the time to help me figure this out and the method for flashing recovery WITHOUT a PC can be found posted below. Once you have recovery flashed you can root the device.
Update: See this method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=68101276
Make sure to place it on your external SD card and rename it after the flash is completed.

You should be able to install custom recovery TWRP from phone, using I think it's called flashify
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2349847
Then you just download SuperSU and flash in TWRP, I do believe.
I'm on custom ROM, so hopefully others can chime in before you take this advice.

That won't work without root. Thanks though. I've talked with Santod and I think we have a solution. I might post a how to after I'm finished for anyone that doesn't have a PC handy.

Here's what I zipped up from work, on my device:
Place in root of sd card and follow prompts in download mode to flash it.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0ajcYhQap8eS3lidHphQkNLVzA/view?usp=drivesdk
Untested, but should work fine.
Disconnecktie may be able to verify soon...
Make sure to remove prefix from filename.

I'm just waiting for my phone to charge a few more minutes. Make sure you don't zip the folder up or it will not work. You also have to place it on the root of your external SD card. Make sure you rename it afterwards.

6p 7.1.2 update installation problem

Hi, I'm running stock Android 7.1.1 (N4F26O) on my rooted Nexus 6p with twrp installed. I just got the android 7.1.2 (NPF05F) Beta update. I tried installing it with flashfire. Flashfire kept stopping at 7%. Is there any way I can install the update without losing root
Sorry for bad english.

Same here. Mine crashes while uncrypting at 22%.
I am also experiencing this issue.
Try removing root, go back to a completely stock rom - wait for 7.1.2 then download it. Let the phone update to 7.1.2 without using flash fire.

Everyone needs to calm down and wait! If you are not willing to go back to a full stock build, just wait until someone creates a flashable zip version. This is nothing new here. Factory ota's rarely if ever are comparable with aftermarket kernels, recoverys or root.
