So, I totally got into it yesterday with T-Mobile and have decided to leave them. Their customer service has been so non-helpful over the past 8 weeks, it's ridiculous.
As a result, I'm going to jump from my S6 Edge to either a Note 5 64GB or an S6 Edge Plus 64GB tomorrow, get my Netflix code and then port my number out.
From there, I'm going to most likely sell the Note 5 or Edge Plus and get a One Plus Two now that I won't be able to jump anymore and the OPT is too good for the price (I have a friend pretty low on the invite list and they normally get invites after they purchase).
My question is, in about 3-4 weeks time, what phone would have a better resale value? I understand, too, that the Edge Plus 64GB will be about $100 more anyway, so I'm taking that into consideration.
I'm in the US, if that makes any difference.
Thanks for any input!
So you already have an invite for the one+ 2 or your going to just wait til you do that seems like it may take a while. If you sell either one on swappa you may get a good chunk of you money back especially I would think with the edge plus.

He's in the 200K range on the invite list, so I'm guessing he'll get his in about a week or two (hopefully) and then maybe get his extra invites within that week.
I love my S6 Edge, but after I "Jump", I think more people may want the Note 5? This is pure speculation on my part...
Put the One +2 next to your S6 Edge and you might cry. That's how much better the S6 Edge screen is compared to it.

Oh, there's no question that the screen is better on the Sammy. However, by me leaving T-Mobile and now having to buy the phone outright instead of the monthly plan, I could get 2 One Plus Two's in the 64GB for the price of one Edge 64GB.
I've owned every Galaxy S from the S3-S6 Edge and Note 3 - Note 5 (most likely today).
It'll be hard to part with Sammy, but T-Mobile has been so bad for me in terms of customer service, I just can't stay...
Note 5 will probably be better resale. As far as I know the s6 edge didn't do so hot because the curved edges. People were afraidoing of a drop being more like to cracked the screen. I'm sure the same thought will go into the edge +. I'd like to sell my edge because a good glass screen protector isn't available and isn't looking so hot for one to ever be.I'd like to go to a note 5.
Last I heard the S6 Edge outsold the regular S6 by alot. It's hard not to fall in love with those curved edges....
Take a look on EBay for the S6 Edge. Search by lowest price, and you will see nothing but S6's with cracked screens for the first several dozen. I would imagine that the S6 Edge+ will crack easier being a much larger-heavier phone.
I Truly Enjoy XDA-Developers. Com with this Fabulous HTC One M9
A thin TPU like Diztronic will prevent 95% of drop issues.
Just don't drop it over rocks.
And yes I don't care for T-Mobile either.
And remember any remaining balance on EIP becomes immediately due when the associated number is ported.
And don't expect to have that phone sim unlocked any time soon after doing that as well.
Dealing with TMO support is about as fun as taking a 400 foot walk down a 300 foot pier and french kissing a bull shark!
Edge+ does great in drop tests from what I have seen. It is not fragile, like you might think.
Fwiw, I have never seen a phone hold its value as well as the s6 edge has. Take a look at swappa, it is a 6 month old phone that is still hovering around $500+.
So I sold my note 4 and got an s7 edge with bogo promo. I felt like i have dumped my wife for a flashy one night stand; who isn't as experienced around the bushes . . . I regret selling and feel like a part of me is gone. In all fairness the s7 edge is a nice phone(sd card, water res, flashy. But the n4 offers a more mature experience. Although my edge antutu was 149k v 51k on my n4.
My n4 had a more fluid experience. Marshmallow on the edge is underwhelming and feels unfinished. I get random slow downs and lag. The stock sound is horrible compared to the n4 and I miss v4a so much. No root, so community and dev seen is dead.
The only triumph the edge has is the camera. If it wasn't for all the free cash Sammy threw at me I wouldn't have jumped.
update 4/14/16
After the lastest update APC8 I have no more gripes with the phone. Battery live is great and performance is really fluid.
Yea, I upgraded from my old Galaxy S4 to the Note 5 at the end of last year, and regretted it so much I bought a Note 4. I can't live without the removable battery (yay for ZeroLemon!), SD card slot and IR blaster. Let's hope Samsung learns and puts all 3 back in the Note 6.
I'm a big upgrade guy, get the newest device as soon as it's out, sometimes to my detriment lol. I had the note 4, then the S5, then the note 5, then the S6, sold the Sold the S6 - didn't like it, went back to the note 5. Then the S7 came out, bought it hoping root would show up soon after, never did, returned it along with a $50 restock fee. Now I'm left with the Note 5 and Note 4. Thinking I'll sell the note 5 since I can get more money for it and the Note 4 still holds up very nicely. Might have to go w/ Nexus later in the year if bootloaders continue to be locked.
FWIW
exynos s7 is alive but still no removable battery.
I also swapped a note 4 for a s7e. I'm still torn, but my note 4 wasn't nearly as smooth.
I'm thinking I'll sell the 4. Then I'll wait for the 6 and all the s7e. The bogo still makes it worthwhile.
so wait, the bootloader on t-mo s7 and s7e is locked?

Phew! Tmo LG G5 bootloader is unlockable! :good: http://www.xda-developers.com/lg-g5-on-t-mobile-bears-unlockable-bootloader-afterall/
I'd be all about that phone if it had a bigger screen (still would want to keep my N4 though!)
I'm selling my note 4 because Samsung abandoned it to make people buy the new phone. So at my place of business I bought a Sprint S6 Edge Plus and successfully unlocked it to work on T-Mobile.

Not abandoned. we have gotten lollipop and marshmallow is on the way with note 5 screen off memo. The only feature missing is the theme store thats all. Even that can be had with a n5 port.

Note 4 was the longest phone i ever had. I moved on over to the Nexus 6P (to try the Stock Android everyone is always raving about). It is smoother than touchwiz and so far im liking it. Really not liking this new direction Samsung is going in with no root on the S7 and Edge even on T-mobile. If they will continue to do so i will be moving to another Brand and So far its most likely the Nexus's since its no BS and guaranteed root-ability and development. The nexus devices might not have every bell and whistle but they are pretty solid. I'm waiting next for the Note 6 and if its not up to my specifications/no root ill go with the Nexus 7P ( or whatever they call it) my devices need at least a 5.7 inch scree though.
OnePlus 3 is the best option besides Samsung and Nexus phones. I'm tired of waiting for updates all the time from Samsung.
It has fewer features than Note 4 but it has enough of what I need.
The Capacitive buttons are better than the Note 4, the fingerprint sensor works faster compared to Note 4's. The volume and power button is exactly like the Note 4's positions.
Unlocked bootloader, easy root, and custom roms already available.
It is so fast and quick, that I rarely have to wait for any app to launch. It has lots of customizations that are built within Android stock like UI and the only issue will be no removeable storage and battery.
So, I'm due an upgrade. A certain electronics dealer (not sure if it would be against the rules to name them) is running 2 promos: 1) Get a Note 5: get a $250 gift card at time of purchase. 2) Get any of the s7devices (Edge/Note too) and get a free 32" Sammy Smart TV. I don't really need the tv but the mother in law could use it. So, I literally cannot decide which to get. They have pros and cons all around. I'm a trucker, so my concern about the Edge's display is whether the glare along that curve would be annoying or distracting. My wife's s7 hasn't lagged yet, but reviews of both Notes mention lag (precious few reviews of Note 5 after MM update). Most reviews can't call a clear-cut "pick this one." And so, the freebies enter the equation. What do you guys think? I'm sure some of you had the 5. Do you think the 7 is significantly better? That it performs better?
Depends, I have been a note fan for along time. I use the s pen a bunch, and love the 5.7 inch screen size. I would say if you ate a note fan , and use the s pen a lot then go with the note 7. If you don't use the pen the the s7(or edge) would be good. I had the note 5 as my daily phone for a year, it's a solid phone, but the note 7 is better. The IP68 rating is awesome and I take the note 7 everywhere without worry about the weather. The battery performance is soo much better than the note 5 as well. I also was able to get the 256gb SD card for the Note 7 and its been great to be able to have all my music in my phone again. Hope this helps.

Sorry for lateness of reply. I've been testing an s7 Edge and an iPhone 6s+ to see if either is a suitable "upgrade." Can't do the iPhone. It's just too limiting. BUT since the Note 7 is officially done for, is the Note 5 "just as good?" I use the S Pen semi-regularly, but it isn't essential. I can do what I do without it. So I'm down to these 3 phones: s7 Edge which is ok but I'm UNimpressed with its performance. Seriously. I expected better, for some reason. LG v20 which is costly and even the AT&T rep was telling me "I've had literally 10 LG V10s returned in 6 months for manufacturing flaws." I asked her to elaborate and she said "Screen issues. Lines and such." Or the Note 5. If the s7 isn't flawless IMO, then how can a half generation older device be any better? Any input is appreciated.

I think it depends who you ask, and of course what you want to use it for. It isn't a bad device, but to give you an idea, I skipped the Note 5 in favor of my Note 4 at the time because of the removable battery and no SD card. The Note 7 however, was new enough to get me over to the other side and give the "no removable battery" a go (one of the added reasons was also the 256 GB SD card lol).
Right now, my personal options for a new phone are Pixel, V20, S7 Edge or back to my old Note 4 for the time being. And in all honesty, unless I like how the S7 Edge feels within a cover, I'll likely end up with my Note 4 again. I need the space an SD slot can provide me, and well, I'm still kind of hooked to the idea of being able to remove a battery and put a new one in

Like you, I held off on the 5 because of those issues. But I'm not a huge fan of the edges/curves. There's not a case on the market that provides decent protection for it simply due to the design. To make matters worse, Zagg pulled its tempered glass protectors because they weren't staying on. Haven't found one yet that does. Functionally, it's an awful design. It's easily broken. The v20 is an option, but it's really expensive, and I just can't justify that for an LG. They don't deserve it. I've never had luck with LG devices lasting. I'm not even remotely interested in the Pixel, but my Note 4 screen has burn-in. The s7 Edge isn't awful, but I was hoping for more in terms of performance. I may just return this one and get a regular s7.
The closest thing to the note 7 is the note 5.. I'm actually using both of them till I return my note 7..lol
I got the N5 when it came out, i was hesitant about the battery and memory (reason i got the 64gb) but i have had no issues. Im glad i didn't sell it. Its in perfect condition.

Hmm, I think that's a bit the thing. While I have read others saying similar things, I never had any issues with LG Prada that I had when it first came out. I loved that phone at the time.. but granted, it's also the only LG I ever owned so I don't really know for sure how the brand holds up with other models.
I bought an LG TV & Sound plate, and have owned a G2 & Tab 7.0. only the Tab 7 still works. Also, WAAAAY back in the day I had an LG Vu (in the pre-smart phone era). The $200 rebate helps lean me towards it.

I agree, ATT is a lot more expensive, not just phones but also with the plans. Sadly it's also the only one (together with Verizon, but I want GSM for my trips to Europe so no chance I go to them) that has decent coverage in my state. T-mobile really lacks when it comes to coverage, their customer service isn't that great either in all honesty. The price is right, I agree, if only they had decent coverage then I could live with it I guess.
This might be good for us.

I am thinking of holding on to the note 7 shut it off and use my one plus 3 until the s8 arrives. Then I will exchange for a s7 edge.
I wanted to hold out with my N7 but when they banned them on flights I figured just switch and deal with it...I went with the s7 edge because it was the closest to the N7...I've had it a few weeks now and it's okay. does most of the things the N7 did...I am unhappy with the screen size and do wish I had the stylus...Battery life is similar..But I do feel like I have gone backwards...
I have been calling ATT cust service and my local store trying to convince them to let me get the upgrade when the N8/S8 comes out but they wont...so I'm unhappy I'm locked into this Next contract with a year old phone..
I read Samsung may be doing upgrade offers to the N8 for N7 owners so there is still hope....
This S7 edge is an okay replacement to get us thru but its not a N7....

You're not necessarily locked into it though.. if you have the Next 12, and if you still have several months to go until the 12 months, you could pay forward to get the upgrade. The rules are pretty much saying that it needs to be paid for 12 months, not that you cannot upgrade for 12 months. Meaning, you pay a few months extra (let's say it comes out in august, you would have to pay 2-3 months extra probably). It isn't a favorable option since the phone you're essentially renting from them becomes more expensive to rent, but I have had it confirmed by an ATT rep that this is indeed possible to do.

I've gone through quite a few refurb phones and this last one they wanted to give me was filthy, had scratches, over all it was in bad shape. I wanted to exchange that for a new one but as it turns out, the Note 5 32/64gb has been discontinued! I already have an S7 edge and I still prefer my Note 5 but with the problems I've been having, it being discontinued, I feel like the safer route here would be to get a S7 Edge. Part of me wonders if I should go with the V20 instead. They have offered to transfer the balance over from the Note 5 (300 bucks) over to the new S7 Edge so I would not be paying full price for it. Thoughts?
I would keep the note 5, and wait for s8
I'm about to get rid of my S7 and go to the Note 5.
Well, I went from the Note 7 to the S7 Edge and I'm very pleased with the phone. The signal seems to be pretty good and the latest update has enabled 256 QAM and 64 QAM.

Don't get the note 5, it sucks. I hated it so much, no sd card and only 32gb, battery life terrible. You will be good with the s7 edge, mine has finally grown on me and I couldn't go with another phone as of now. I was looking at the v20 because I have a jump next week but I'll stay with the s7 edge for now. I gave my Note 5 for the note 4 just last month and it was the best decision I've made

Honestly, I'm unsure if the Note 5 has an unlocked bootloader but I hate my S7 Edge. Not having a functional phone with root (ie no lag) sucks for a flash junkie like me. I jumped **** too soon and regret it!
I hate my s7 edge, boring phone without control. No different than iPhone sheep peeple
Except for the previous Verizon phones that I have, the tmo S7e is the first phone that I don't care to root. I had the Note 5 as well before the S7e. Seriously, if I can have 6 hrs SOT and amazing standby with Doze (and no crazy wake lock), I can live by without root.
It's a good phone. I don't root any phones anymore most are good out of the box.

Hi guys! My n4 just crashed on me and now im wondering whether i Should buy an s7e now or use my reserve n3 and wait for the s8 to come out.what do you guys think?
Verstuurd vanaf mijn SM-N930F met Tapatalk
Depends on you.
Both are valid choices.
S7 edge is still one of THE Best smartphones on the Market (at least in the Top 2-3), and the Price is pretty appealing atm. 570-600€ here in germany.
However, the S8 will of course be better. But.... Rumors claim, it will start at 849€. That's almost 300€ difference + you have to wait.
Which means, that will be a whole other Priceclass.
So, how much would you like to spend? Rather 600 or rather 900?
If you have the patience, then wait. If like me you don't have the patience, then buy the S7 Edge.
So far I'm not liking the rear fingerprint sensor. No home button is fine but I wish the sensor was on the front as first rumored.
Hopefully they might fix it on the S9.
Also, I read yesterday that the smaller, but still bigger than S7E, S8 will have a 3000mah battery, which doesn't sound good either.
I'm glad I got the S7E at launch, it fixed the issues of the 6, so maybe 9 will be better again.
I would get an S7E today rather than wait for S8.
wait for ir till it blasts in ur pants
The way I see it, even after the S8 launch, the S7 edge will, for a while, remain the better phone overall, from a user-experience perspective:
-It's rootable! The S8 probably won't be for a while without breaking some features/stuff. It will take time
-The community (thanks XDA!) already got around most of the protections/limitations Samsung implemetented for the S7
-The many tweaks/ROMs/Kernels available. With the S8, you'll be stuck with the stock, bloated ROM for a while
-The S7 is running on Nougat (So it's not like the S8 will bring a totally new and different user experience. The S7 isn't running on outdated software)
-The S7 is not by any means a slow phone, even by 2017 standards (There's stagnation in the SoC department)
The better phone doesn't always have the better, faster and most recent hardware as far as I'm concerned... As someone who likes to experiment with my phone, try stuff, get the best out of it, go beyond what the manufacturer allows, I always prefer a ~1-2 yo flagship phone that benefits from a big, helpful and dedicated community Vs. the newest shiny toy
That's something I've learned with the years: Always get the *~6-7-8 months old phone. It will be cheaper, and it will already have all the cool stuff by the time you get it!
I'm waiting for the Note 8. It's going to be hideously expensive, but Samsung simply can't afford to get it wrong in any way. It'll be worth it IMHO.
The S7 Edge can be gotten on fantastic deals at the moment, and that will only get better the older it gets and especially once the S8 is released. Yet despite its age it is still one of the best on the market. I mean, seriously, what Android phone out there is demonstrably better, despite the S7E being 10 months old? Nothing really.
The key question you need to ask is what the S8 will bring to the table that the S7 Edge doesn't currently offer. If those things aren't important, you could save yourself 30%-40% per month with an S7 Edge, plus with no upfront fee.

Your totally right man. Plus thr fact that probably most if the s8 festures will be portable to the s7e and so on trough custom roms ^^

Thats easy.
Wait for the S8 of course.
Buying a device right near the end of its life cycle makes no sense in my view...you buy them on launch day not when the next model is coming out lol.
And not that it isnt a great device because it is but with the S8 literally right around the corner a person would have to be nuts to buy a year old device ( unless you had no spare device of course).
Id wait and it would be an easy decision.

No. What makes no sense is buying a new device simply because it's a new device without looking at what it brings to the table. The S8 on launch day will cost at least 30% more than an S7 Edge, and you will be expected to pay an up front cost.
I would wait for s8 to release. After few reviews would compare price and what you get for your money and then decide if its worth buying. Also with s8 releasing the price of s7e should drop. My opinion is that s7e should be good for another two years of running

Fortunately I am in a position that cost isnt a factor for me.
But your right i wouldnt buy a new device simply because its new....it needs to appeal to me. In the case if the S8, besides a more powerful SoC and better camera they had me when the 6.2" screen was mentioned.
Thats my major issue with the S7 edge, the screen is too small for my liking for my personal device. Once the S8 drops the S7 edge will become my new work phone and I can retire my ancient S6 and use it for music in the gym when I train.
See theres a method to the madness :good:

You didnt mention cost when you posted so I considered it a non issue, if you already know its out of reach for you financially why even bring it up?
That said, dont sell yourself short....it won't be available until April...that is ton of time to save up for one.
Cost not being a factor isn't the point, otherwise I wouldn't have brought it up.

Cost aint a factor. I just find 800 euro much for a phone. And thr s8 will b3 nice. But ive bought the s7e today and on a custom echoe rom its awesome. When s8 comes out im sure that the dev will port over the s8 festures to the s7e so
