Wi-Fi stuck on Searching for networks - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

My xt1644 will not find any Wi-Fi at all. It will just say that's it is searching over and over and never find any wifi networks. I've tried it while driving and picked up some random printers and that's it. It doesn't seem to find any routers at all. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? I've reset the phone already, and everything else seems to be working fine.

is this a new phone (new to you)?
recently installed an update?
flashed different firmware?

It is new to me. I did an OTA update to 7.0 using data only and still no working WiFi

Any ideas?

could flash the full firmware with RSD Lite, but depends on whether it's available yet for your version

After update problems with wifi wpa-eap

Hello
I got my update a week ago. Never tried to connect for a week. Now I am back at work and my wifi does not work. Worked perfectly before the update.
its a wpa eap enterprise network.
First phase ttls
Second phase pap
It just seems to timeout during authentication. No other errors in logcat.
The GUI seems to have problems too. Even when configured with pap it shows phase 2 as none.
Anybody experience the same problems?
Or does know a solution?
Its the only way to get internet

Same issue here, exact steps. worked flawless before update and now its broken. Wondering if anyone of you found solution on this?
Did anyone tried Acer's wifi patch for this?
Thanks

Just tried steps from following link and seems to be working fine. Only issue is it cant automatically connect to network but once I switch Wifi Off and On again, it connects. Hopefully should work for others too.

I think there is more information on this problem here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1185885
It seems that WiFi Advanced Configuration Editor in the Market might help. I haven't had time to try yet.
exact same problem. it was working fine before this last update. i am right now on 10.38 com gen1.
The only thing I found is to set the IP setings to static in the wifi network options. It seems to work for now but am expecting a fix from acer.
I had this same issue(PEAP). I was able to connect via Add WiFi network. That was last week. Now when I boot my device in the office. It automatically connects.

The fix on the acertabletforum link did the trick, this has been driving me crazy for a few days. I already had an RMA from Acer and was ready to ship it back, but it's good now....
Just finished a chat session with Acer, told me it was the responsibility of my router's manufacturer, not theirs. They take no responsibility for the problem. Don't expect a patch from them. It looks like I will return the tab, pay extra for sound customer service
On the other hand, just spoke to dlink, downloaded updated firmware, works perfectlyfor two days. While acer was correct their communication to me lacked clarity. I still believe they carry some respnsibility to make their software compatable with a variety of routers. But for me the problem is solved.

I had the exact same problem at work and started the XDA thread posted ealier in this thread but I was able to find an easy solution. Use WiFi Advanced Connection Editor from the market, load it up, choose the SSID of the WAP and then go to Enterprise Security and re-enter your password. Should work fine from there on out. I'm guessing it's an error with the way the WPA_SUPPLICANT file is storing the data for the WAP.
These instructions are from memory but should be close enough to find your way.

Wifi connected but doesnt work.

We have 3 SGS2 at home and a Billion 7800N modem
There is a recurring problem on my wifes phone where there is no dataflow. I cant even reach the modem. It will just start working all the sudden for a short period then stop again.
Things I have tried.
1. Using it right next to the router
2. have tried using different channel
3. have reset modem
4. made sure sleep policy is on never
5. Update firmware and hard reset phone - no new apps installed - worked at first but now having problems again.
It never loses wifi connectivity....internet just does not work. Turn 3g on...works fine.
What could be the problem?
Only things I can think of
1. Faulty phone
2. Virus? That phone is sometimes used to check out Chinese websites...and I know some of them can be dodgy. I forgot to ask her not to go to any of those sites after the hard reset as trial and error.
3. Not certain but this problem may only started when we updated to 2.3.4.
If need be Ill hard reset AGAIN when XXKG6 is out - I dont want to flash back to 2.3.3 to try

I have the impression, that the Broadcom WiFi drivers of Android are still buggy, because my Asus Transformer's WiFi also isn't very good.
When using a static IP address and setting Google's free DNS 8.8.8.8 as a secondary DNS server (the router as primary), my SGS2's WiFi works best.
Maybe give it a try.
I have the exact setup and tried all the things you mentioned to no avail. It works sporadically after I reset the phone wifi on and off but it won't maintain data connection for long. Although the signal indicator says it is still connected. the billion 7800 works on my wifes sgs and connects without problem to my work htc legend.

If you google for "galaxy s2 wifi no internet", you'll find out, that several SGS2 owners have exactly the same problem.
I all cases it seems to be the router's firmware, that causes this problem. I found two users reporting, that the only solution was to download a new firmware from ...
http://dd-wrt.com
But maybe it helps to drop the speed from 802.11 N to G?
I have the exact same problem and my firmwire on my router is the latest. What I do to fix this problem is just unplug my router and plug it back in. I find that fixes it for me. Post back if that doesn't work

That's why two guys reported, that they had to download a new FW from DD-WRT, which solved the problem for them.
Sorry, that I don't post links ... it were german forums.
I have the exact same problem. You say that the other two S2's work perfectly? If that's the case then it must be a hardware fault. I'm gonna take mine to be fixed or replaced.

Likely ... maybe different firmware?
Yes....my SGS2 and my brothers work fine. When I update....I update all 3 so we are all using the same firmware.
Thats why I believe its a problem specific to 1 phone....not the router (although I did update my router to latest firmware just in case.....same problem)
As a side note - my brother has a microphone echo problem when using a specific gel case. When my wife and I use the exact same case - no problem. I dont know how Samsung build their phones - but its not very consistent.

That's why we have a thread about the "Made in ..."
But that's not only a Samsung problem ... I know that from the Asus Transformer forum.
Ill see where our phones are made if I have time. If anything though, my brother should be the odd 1 out as his was bought in Australia whereas I got the other 2 from UK.
Ill get to the bottom of this....even if I have to keep doing hard reset and trial and error tests. Not being able to use wifi is a huge deal.
Just to confirm, the problem's not only apparent in 2.3.4. My phone has the same problem with 2.3.3. I've sent my phone in for repair now so i'll post my findings here in a week or so. Have you got any further with it?
I sure hope they do fix it somehow....It's becoming increasingly annoying having to flick wifi on and off, downloading apps is the worst. This never happened on mine or my girlfriends htc's.
Anyone able to find a solution for this problem? Just picked up my Galaxy S2 and have the exact same issue Wifi connects, surf the net for about 10 sec, then nothing.. still connected to Wifi and everything.
At work at the moment so can't really play around with the router settings but will try once I get home. Have been looking forward to getting this phone for a while now and to have Wifi issues right off the bat is quite disappointing..
wifi connected no data flow
i had the same problem
i tried different ways no sucess
i tried Set DNS Pro from market
tried different settings
applied different dns
shift from open , custom to google ang keep checking the internet in browser
after few try it works everytime
its to do with assigning ip address in android
thanks
I posted a solution a few weeks back....but i think most people overlooked it....so the solution is
Go to settings>>>>wireless and networks>>>>>wifi settings>>>>hit menu and go to advanced>>>>regulatory domain>>>>change the channel to 14.....thts it....it worked for me on vibrant, nexus one and even on sgs2..hope this helps

Channel 14 is not allowed in most countries ... my german router e.g. doesn't have channel 14, only 1-13.
I had similar issues with my Asus Transformer and found out, that a static IP works best, BUT only if a secondary DNS is assigned too. I used Google's 8.8.8.8
Give it a try. The Broadcom drivers seem to have a bug, when no secondary DNS is assigned.
The "regulatory domain" setting isn't there on my galaxy s2 ;/ Will give the static IP solution a try.

Is possible to have this WiFi issue?

Hi!
Well, I have a very weird issue with custom ROMs and WiFi.
The history begins last sunday. I was using GingerDX wich is really great, but I had some problems with it, the most important was not being able to install apps in my SD card.
So, I switched to GingerXperia V22, this is a cool ROM too but I really don't like that my music lags when I turn my screen on. Also, the SE default dialer and Infinity view are bad and slow, but I didn't have the problem with WiFi, until I switched to XGin 6.2
Everything worked OK except for this:
El Brillantinas said:
I just realized a terrible and very weird error with this ROM:
I couldn't connect to The WiFi of my mate's office (where Im currently working). But the weirdest thing was the modem worked fine before trying to connect with my Xperia, but after turning the WiFi on, the modem just got busted and didn't work anymore!! So, no internet in the office computers, neither in my iPod, in my mate's smartphone, etc.! It was necessary to turn the modem off and then turning it on, and turning my X8's wifi off to make the modem working properly again.
Weird, huh?
I reflashed, and the error happened again.
So, I flashed back to the ROM I was using before (GingerXperia V22), and now the WiFi is working fine!
Anyone else with that same error or Im the only crazy around here?

I tried kuyaDROID and the same error happened.
I also did a full wipe... And nothing, the WiFi error remains on those two ROMs. So, Im currently using GingerXperia.
So, the question is: Is this really possible? And, is there any solution?
There may be some bug that's overloading it. Also was it the modem or the router? Cuz if it's wifi I would guess its the router but you said modem? I'd just use a different rom that works.

Guess is the router, where the wired networks are connected, it also gives the wireless signal.
As I said, Im sticking with GingerXperia, wich is not causing the error and Im connecting to WiFi with no problems. But I have personal problems with infinity view, SE's dialer and music lagging.
If is about a overloading bug, how could I fix it?
Im using stock kernel, btw.
To tell you the truth, I'm not actually that smart in this, but by overloading I meant that it might be trying to use too much data or something along that line, did it work fine over 3g?
Sent from my LG-VM670 using XDA App
Yeah, I didn't have any problems with 3G.
Don't really have any idea then, I've had problems with mange one device at a time but not fully crashing. Last advice would be that maybe the router has a limit to the number of connected devices it can have and your phone puts it over, try disconnecting one device then connect your phone

I already tried that, and the problem persists.
But this is a good excuse to read and learn eve more, it is a totally new problem for me hehe.
Thanks anyway, for giving suggestions.
I guess I'd try posting in your phones thread and the rom's also, might get better insight into the problem

To further assist you may I ask some questions;
1. What kernel are you using?
2. Have you tried connecting in other Access Point aside from the previous AP you are connecting with?
3. If using custom kernel did you delete all the modules in system/lib/modules?

1. Im in stock kernel.
2. Nope, I didn't try it. I don't have internet in home, but I'd try in my girl's house.
3. same answer than 1.
Thanks for being interested in this curious case.
If your using stock kernel then you shouldn't have to encounter those issues as most roms esp kuyadroid as you mentioned earlier is made for stock rom. I suggest trying into public wifi access and see if you could be able to connect. You have to have two or more access point to test with as router might have different configs than your girls setup.

CM9 by photon team on Bell Atrix - no wifi

I have N_01.77.33P radio flashed on my phone and I've attempted flashing CM9 it. It seems great however wifi is not working.
I can't post this on the original thread (10 posts threshold) but if anyone is facing same issues or if this has been reported already (couldn't find if anyone did), please let me know?

Works fine on my Bell Atrix. Might be a dumb question, but did you re enter your wifi credentials after the flash? What exactly isnt working? You turn on wifi and you cant see any networks? or you cant connect to the internet once you are connected?
You have to reboot the phone after you turn on wifi. This only needs to be done after the initial install.
Once it reboot, wifi should work.

[Q] Acer Iconia A500 on 3.2.1 - Wifi problem

Hi...
I had been using my tab for over 4 months without any issues. My wifi has suddenly stopped working (tab gets connected to the wifi but the the icon doesn't turn blue and the network is not up). I had recently updated to 3.2.1 but it was working fine for a few weeks on that too.
I changed my Wifi router security from WEP to WPA and also tried using static IP. I even did a factory reset (apart from the hard and soft resets) and I still have the problem. It is not rooted (and I don't want to do that yet) and since I'm not able to connect to the internet, I can't use any market apps to fix the wifi issue (even if there is one). Appreciate some help on this. Thanks.
This was happening to me all the time pre 3.2.1. Updated, sometimes it still happens but a lot less. I don't have my tab in front of me but I did find a Wifi widget icon. All you do is press it once to turn Wifi off and then again to start it again. You can probably find an APK on Google and install through your computer.

Yea but don't you have to be rooted to install that which the OP said he didn't want to do.
I am having wifi signal strength issue with mine as well. I think I am going to sell mine to get something else. It seems like these units are notorious for lie signal strength which sort of defeats the purpose of a tablet. When my phone gets significantly better strength that is bad.
I think it might be because of the metal back cover and a poor antenna.

Should I just go into recovery mode and install the specific file? Can you point me to the location of the fix?
Thanks.
Search this forum for the file... It's not hard to find. You'll need ClockworkMod to install it. Just flash on top of your rom, reset cache and (just to be sure) dalvik cache under advanced...
That actually only solves a part of the problem; the other part is the fairly weak antenna (just replace it, instructions are in this forum). The less intrusive solution is a repeater (~30 euro here in Germany).
Another good lead is to use a better WiFi AP. Cheap ones (particularly with those 10dbm antennas) tend to produce a lot of noise, which in turn triggers the driver bug (which seems to be the root of this evil) more often... this can be so bad it actually makes WiFi completely unusable (happened to me). The only solution to this is to spend a few extra bucks for some good router hardware (I use a Linksys/Cisco router and Huawei repeaters, all of which work fine).
