CM9 by photon team on Bell Atrix - no wifi - Atrix 4G General

I have N_01.77.33P radio flashed on my phone and I've attempted flashing CM9 it. It seems great however wifi is not working.
I can't post this on the original thread (10 posts threshold) but if anyone is facing same issues or if this has been reported already (couldn't find if anyone did), please let me know?
I have Jan/21 version on it.

You sure you installed the one for atrix and not sunfire (photon)?

Unless the name is misleading I'm pretty sure...
I've downloaded this:
alpha5-cm-9.0.0-RC0-Atrix-KANG-signed.zip
UPDATE:
3g/hspa will work no problem. bluetooth seems working as it'll at least turn on.
Did it work on yours?

I am on the same ROM and wifi is working fine

Works fine on my Bell Atrix. Might be a dumb question, but did you re enter your wifi credentials after the flash? What exactly isnt working? You turn on wifi and you cant see any networks? or you cant connect to the internet once you are connected?

You have to reboot the phone after you turn on wifi. This only needs to be done after the initial install.
Once it reboot, wifi should work.

I don't even get to enter wifi credentials, I try to enable it and it says "Powering Wi-Fi on..." and stays there.

You're absolutely right. Guess I skipped this step... Who would figure you'd have to reboot after the first boot lol.
Connected to wifi now!

I had no problems at all with wifi. It worked on my first boot.

Are you using the market version or one of the newer versions from: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
I tested the newest (pre10 http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...tail?name=wifi_tether_v3_0-pre10.apk&can=2&q= ) and it worked for me.
I don't think the version in the market works with our setup right (EB13) now.

I tried pre10 several times. Each time it crashed my phone so bad that it actually REBOOTED (as opposed to FC)!!!!

I saw someone else had that problem in another thread. I'm not going to be much help, I just tested it out but haven't done anything more with it. You might search around, though, because that person definitely got it to work even with the reboots and had some advice on that, I think.
Stock rooted EB13, the market version of WiFi tether works fine for me.

3.0-pre10 works fine for me. Even tested it by tethering to my laptop.
I did notice with my netbook, it would say it was disconnected, but it actually had internet connection (to the phone - speed test and IP proved that).
It appears there's a glitch of some sort in reporting a connection, but it works.
The app does seem to interface via the Sprint Hotspot, as that starts up, so make sure you didn't remove that APK.

YES... works awesome!! I have downloaded every type of tether. Worked flawlessly and my connection is pretty damn fast!! TY
I've tried numerous versions of WifiTether. wifi_tether_v3_0-pre11 being the most recent. At first it worked for a couple hours and now it reboots my phone as soon as I start it. I've uninstalled and reinstalled pre7-11 with same results.

Problem with wifi

Hi, I've searched the forum but have not found a solution hence my post.
I've been using the Nexus S since december and the wifi has been working fine. Normally when you switch the wifi on and it connects to a network the "E" edge symbol goes off and the wifi symbol becomes green and all works well.
Recently this has stopped happening. When I switch the wifi on it connects to the network but the wifi symbol on the top status bar remains grey and the "E" remains and i'm not able to use the internet at all.
The only way to get the wifi to work is to manually switch data off.
I'd appreciate if someone could help with this.
thanks,
Sid
im sort of having a similar situation i think since the update, my 3g icon stays and wifi icon shows no signal but i'm still connected on wifi

It controls when your wifi goes to sleep. By default it shuts down wifi when your screen goes off. To prevent that you need to change it to never.

Are you on Stock kernel? You can try different kernels and see if that helps.
Alternatively, you can also try Barnacle Tether on the Market and see if that one works better.

Where did you get the app from? The version in the market essentially never works on our devices. Try ones from here:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list?can=1
different people have had differing luck with different ones, but I'd try the most-recent first, if you can't get it to work, try another. Also, I don't use wifi tether really (just tried it out) but it has never worked for me more than once after booting the phone. So I'd suggest at least rebooting between attempts.
thank you soooooooo much it worked
now that I got my tablet to pick up the wifi tether app the first time i activate the wifi tether it power cycles my device and then when i click it the second time it works but cant surf

the latest (3.0-pre14) works fine for me with one hitch- if you want to tether over 4g, you need to start wifi tether with 4g off, start the app, then start 4g (or the other way around- i always mess it up ). doing the other way forces a reboot on my phone.

I tried that one first and it would only do adhoc on the stock ROM.

Is possible to have this WiFi issue?

Hi!
Well, I have a very weird issue with custom ROMs and WiFi.
The history begins last sunday. I was using GingerDX wich is really great, but I had some problems with it, the most important was not being able to install apps in my SD card.
So, I switched to GingerXperia V22, this is a cool ROM too but I really don't like that my music lags when I turn my screen on. Also, the SE default dialer and Infinity view are bad and slow, but I didn't have the problem with WiFi, until I switched to XGin 6.2
Everything worked OK except for this:
El Brillantinas said:
I just realized a terrible and very weird error with this ROM:
I couldn't connect to The WiFi of my mate's office (where Im currently working). But the weirdest thing was the modem worked fine before trying to connect with my Xperia, but after turning the WiFi on, the modem just got busted and didn't work anymore!! So, no internet in the office computers, neither in my iPod, in my mate's smartphone, etc.! It was necessary to turn the modem off and then turning it on, and turning my X8's wifi off to make the modem working properly again.
Weird, huh?
I reflashed, and the error happened again.
So, I flashed back to the ROM I was using before (GingerXperia V22), and now the WiFi is working fine!
Anyone else with that same error or Im the only crazy around here?

I tried kuyaDROID and the same error happened.
I also did a full wipe... And nothing, the WiFi error remains on those two ROMs. So, Im currently using GingerXperia.
So, the question is: Is this really possible? And, is there any solution?
There may be some bug that's overloading it. Also was it the modem or the router? Cuz if it's wifi I would guess its the router but you said modem? I'd just use a different rom that works.

Guess is the router, where the wired networks are connected, it also gives the wireless signal.
As I said, Im sticking with GingerXperia, wich is not causing the error and Im connecting to WiFi with no problems. But I have personal problems with infinity view, SE's dialer and music lagging.
If is about a overloading bug, how could I fix it?
Im using stock kernel, btw.
To tell you the truth, I'm not actually that smart in this, but by overloading I meant that it might be trying to use too much data or something along that line, did it work fine over 3g?
Sent from my LG-VM670 using XDA App
Yeah, I didn't have any problems with 3G.
Don't really have any idea then, I've had problems with mange one device at a time but not fully crashing. Last advice would be that maybe the router has a limit to the number of connected devices it can have and your phone puts it over, try disconnecting one device then connect your phone

I already tried that, and the problem persists.
But this is a good excuse to read and learn eve more, it is a totally new problem for me hehe.
Thanks anyway, for giving suggestions.
I guess I'd try posting in your phones thread and the rom's also, might get better insight into the problem

To further assist you may I ask some questions;
1. What kernel are you using?
2. Have you tried connecting in other Access Point aside from the previous AP you are connecting with?
3. If using custom kernel did you delete all the modules in system/lib/modules?

1. Im in stock kernel.
2. Nope, I didn't try it. I don't have internet in home, but I'd try in my girl's house.
3. same answer than 1.
Thanks for being interested in this curious case.
If your using stock kernel then you shouldn't have to encounter those issues as most roms esp kuyadroid as you mentioned earlier is made for stock rom. I suggest trying into public wifi access and see if you could be able to connect. You have to have two or more access point to test with as router might have different configs than your girls setup.

[Q] Acer Iconia A500 on 3.2.1 - Wifi problem

Hi...
I had been using my tab for over 4 months without any issues. My wifi has suddenly stopped working (tab gets connected to the wifi but the the icon doesn't turn blue and the network is not up). I had recently updated to 3.2.1 but it was working fine for a few weeks on that too.
I changed my Wifi router security from WEP to WPA and also tried using static IP. I even did a factory reset (apart from the hard and soft resets) and I still have the problem. It is not rooted (and I don't want to do that yet) and since I'm not able to connect to the internet, I can't use any market apps to fix the wifi issue (even if there is one). Appreciate some help on this. Thanks.
This was happening to me all the time pre 3.2.1. Updated, sometimes it still happens but a lot less. I don't have my tab in front of me but I did find a Wifi widget icon. All you do is press it once to turn Wifi off and then again to start it again. You can probably find an APK on Google and install through your computer.
Kjy posted a wifi fix over in his rom. Install it. It was Acer official so I know it will work with stock. Having a similar problem and thinking about installing myself.

Yea but don't you have to be rooted to install that which the OP said he didn't want to do.
I am having wifi signal strength issue with mine as well. I think I am going to sell mine to get something else. It seems like these units are notorious for lie signal strength which sort of defeats the purpose of a tablet. When my phone gets significantly better strength that is bad.
I think it might be because of the metal back cover and a poor antenna.

Should I just go into recovery mode and install the specific file? Can you point me to the location of the fix?
Thanks.
Search this forum for the file... It's not hard to find. You'll need ClockworkMod to install it. Just flash on top of your rom, reset cache and (just to be sure) dalvik cache under advanced...
That actually only solves a part of the problem; the other part is the fairly weak antenna (just replace it, instructions are in this forum). The less intrusive solution is a repeater (~30 euro here in Germany).
Another good lead is to use a better WiFi AP. Cheap ones (particularly with those 10dbm antennas) tend to produce a lot of noise, which in turn triggers the driver bug (which seems to be the root of this evil) more often... this can be so bad it actually makes WiFi completely unusable (happened to me). The only solution to this is to spend a few extra bucks for some good router hardware (I use a Linksys/Cisco router and Huawei repeaters, all of which work fine).
