Hello all.
I am having some bluetooth connectivity problem with my moto g 4 US xt1625 Retus channel (non amazon version) stock everything.
Basically the connection to my smartwatch is unstable and keeps dropping on and off.
Normally I would be blaming the smartwatch for this BUT it connects absolutely perfectly to my moto G2 (cyanogenmod 14) without any hint of misbehavior
I've already tried;
Forgetting and re-pairing device (also rebooting phone before repairing)
Factory resetting watch
clearing app data and cache of system bluetooth apps ("bluetooth share" and "bluetooth MIDI")
Disabling 4G (sometimes interferes apparently)
Disabling wifi
Running phone in safe mode.
*edit - also tried disabling power optimisation for both system bluetooth apps AND the watch companion app
I also reconnected my smartwatch to my old moto G 2 after trying all these things and it still works perfectly.
Old moto G2 had blutooth 4.0 LE and this moto G4 has bluetooth 4.2 LE which would offer no comparability issues.
Has anyone had any similar problems with their bluetooth?
Thanks in advance
I think my next move will be to root, and start removing G apps that could be interfering with the bluetooth connection

I have had a problem with my Fitbit connecting that didn't happen on my G2 or G3. I keep my cordless home phone connected with no problem though. What I have to do is forget the Fitbit in my bluetooth devices and it connects fine. If it's even showing up in the bluetooth devices it won't connect. That seems strange that it will only connect that way but others have reported the same thing. Maybe try and see if it connects after you forget it in the bluetooth settings and it's not even showing up.

OK maybe you're on to something.
If I connect to the watch using the companion app, then enter bluetooth settings and "forget" the device..... It still appears to be connected
But a few seconds later, it automatically pairs and re-appears in the "paired devices" list.
Is there a way to prevent re-connect?
Actually, after "forgetting" it several times, It's staying connected and has done for a 15 minutes now.
I'll report back if and when it disconnects.
Cheers
Ok so the watch disconnected a couple of times in a few hours. (this is a huge improvement from before)
Each time, "forgetting" the watch in bluetooth settings caused an automatic re-pair and return to good connection.
Maybe I can use "tasker" or similar app to automate this unpair upon disconnect?
Cheers

Yeah, it's strange that it works that way. I think it's the device not compatible with that version Bluetooth. My Fitbit doesn't try to reconnect once I forget it unless I make it pair then it will actually work sometimes and sometimes it doesn't when paired. It always works if I don't pair it at all. Have you tried clicking on the gear besides your watch in more settings once it connects and unchecking what ever connectons it shows in the check boxes?

If i click the gear next to the watch in the bluetooth settings, the only options i have are to rename the device, or to forget it
I have no checkboxes or anything like thar.
Do you have advanced bluetooth settings installed or something???

Some of my devices have check boxes for contacts, audio, etc. but not all. I thought maybe that would be something to look at.

Ok, its still messing around. I'm going to install the Temasek unofficial cyanogenmod 13 and see if that is an immediate fix, or if the additional options offers a fix.
Cheers
update;
after ugrading moto g4 to android nougat (7.0.1) I no longer have any issues with bluetooth connectivity.
6.0.1 was to blame!
my phone is updated to stock Nougat also and still having bluetooth issues staying connected to my car (2012 ford fusion with mysync) I will be keeping an eye on this thread.

I seldom connect my phone to mysync but my wife does. She also keeps her G4 connected to the Panasonic home phone system while home. I've noticed that since the update to Nougat mysync is very slow to connect on her phone. The Panasonic cordless phone seems to connect fine. Mysync will usually connect although she has to drive for 10 or 15 minutes before it does occasionally and other times it connects instantly. One time I had to delete her phone in the car and add it back. I wondered if it was a problem of it not disconnecting from the Panasonic, but that shouldn't be past the end of the driveway. Then again it may be just a rip in the space time continum. ?

Hi,
After upgrading to Android 8.0 on my H870 I'm encountering multiple issues.
Using my G6 with Ford Sync 2 or 3 keeps crashing Bluetooth. Meanwhile using Bluetooth with my Marshall Stockwell works absolutly fine. Unpairing and pairing again doesn't seem to work.
Also GPS in Google Maps only works for locating me, but when using it with Navigation my location keeps being stuck at my original position and doesn't move...
HERE also keeps being stuck with "Waiting for GPS".
Restarting the phone didn't help.
Does anyone have a solution to my problems? :crying:
Many thanks in advance
Solution:
After restarting my G6 about 3 to 4 times and disabling Call and Contact Access in the Bluetooth device settings and then restarting everything works fine now. (including GPS)
Update:
The problem is back again
Somewhat new solution:
By enabling the developer options my "Bluetooth AVRCP Version" was set to AVRCP 1.5, which isn't the default...
So by changing it to AVRCP 1.4 Bluetooth works fine now...
VS988 here: Everything seems mostly okay, except for the constant bluetooth crashes. Anybody else seeing that? Also, FWIW, not enjoying the system notifications. Trying to figure out how to turn those off.
Usual first fix after a major update is factory reset, did you try that yet?

No, that is such a time-consuming PITA that I always wait until I have no other option. Thanks, though.

I'm H870 EU user, no problems so far after oreo update (without factory reset), BT pairing works as it should...
GPS and navigation also works without bugs.
Just do a factory reset
I had frequent bluetooth crash notifications on nougat. On oreo bluetooth will not connect a2dp/avrcp beyond first pairing with my Pioneer car stereo ..still works fine on bt headsets that dont pull phonebook including my old basic sony car stereo.

If you're talking about persistant battery notification hold on it from notification panel..unfortunately it's all or none. Wish Google had the foresight to allow disable on a per app basis, but you know how wishes go...
I'm having the same problems with bluetooth. My headphones can connect, however after about 3 seconds they automatically disconnect for audio (though they somehow still connect to the phone, just not on audio).
My car still connects and works, however it does sound now like I am listening to a scratched CD (whereas both were working absolutely fine before the update). Haven't found anyone with a solution so far.
Verizon G6 VS988 here.
To respond to a couple of the suggestions here, I did a factory reset first because of bluetooth and battery problems. That didn't fix the problems. I just changed to AVRCP 1.4 Bluetooth and hopefully that fix works for bluetooth. I also have a Ford with Sync.
Something new ive noticed is if i place a call it puts up the audio output notification and everything works as normal. Having reset my phone and car both i can only say LG missed out on my next phone purchase even when running low on phone options.
How do u change to that ? Is it on the phone device settings cant seem to find out how
GPS problem in G6 is a common issue. No solutions so far.
Bluetooth wont work with any device I've tried it with. Many restarts, unpairing, turning on/off bluetooth. Nothing works, need this fixed.
Just adding another testimony of the issue.
T-Mobile
I really hate to say this, but I really cannot recommend LG to anyone anymore after all the issues I've got with my phone...
Another question:
I have 2 NFC payment apps installed.
I'm now on version V20c-EUR-XX and since the upgrade I cannot change my default payment app, so when I'm in the store it always tries to pay with app 2 instead of app 1, even when app 1 is on the screen with the card I want to use...
This really frustrates me, because app 2 doesn't always work in stores (but is my preferred app)...

Is that issue because it's an LG phone? Or does it happen because of that version of Android?
One of my friends is using a Galaxy S8+ and he is running Android 8 (same as mine).
I just cannot think of any reason why they removed this feature...
(So it is a issue with my LG H870)
Running my Mi A1 with stock ROM but having numerous bluetooth issues.
It will connect to my earphones without issue, and to my keyboard. However it will not connect to my Ford Fiesta, or to my Amazon Echo. Tested my oneplus 3 with these to confirm and they work fine, so its purely the Mi A1.
I have tried clearing bluetooth cache and forgetting the link.
Any other steps to resolve this?
Generally the devices never even connect at all, says connecting then gives up.
Update: ran the latest software update so I am now running 8.1, still not able to connect to 99% of the devices I try, says pairing then gives up. Any ideas?
I have some BT issues as well, this is my experience.
With Oreo 8.1 stable (updated OTA from 8.0) I was unable to pair further BT devices ("wrong PIN or passkey"),
although those paired previously (some from Nougat) still worked. Neither clearing BT cache and data or resetting
the network settings helped. I saved a couple of logcat logs during the unsuccessful attempts to pair a BT headphone and a BT speaker that worked earlier.
After a full factory reset BT pairing starts working again, although it seems that this happens only for a while,
then it may stop again, maybe I have some interfering app or whatever. I am not trying to delete some paired device
to check again.
This issue is still ongoing, tried more devices and same issues.
Another one I tried is connecting my phone to a bluetooth keyboard (Anne Pro). This works fine, however now the phone keeps popping up with "Please connect a keyboard".

I have never had a problem but have read in several threads people say they have trouble pairing with Bluetooth while Wifi is turned on, not saying it will work but try turning off the Wifi and maybe data too and see if it helps, other have reported it does.
Done another factory reset, issue still persists. Have tried removing all Bluetooth devices, wifi, and mobile network off. Still unable to connect to a bunch of devices.
Tried a bunch of different things, but still can only connect bluetooth to my earphones, and sometimes Amazon Echo. Everything else will just say connecting and then stop.
Problem: Intermittent Bluetooth connection with my Prius C. Found two Bluetooth apps in system apps.
When I go into the bluetooth app to clear cache and data, I noticed TWO Bluetooth apps! One is version 8.0 which is appropriate since I've upgraded to Oreo. And, the second Bluetooth app is version 6.20.18. After trying everything I could think of to fix my connectivity issue, I'm at the point of a factory reset and rebuilding my device with hopes of resolution. But first, I wanted to ask if anyone else is seeing TWO bluetooth apps on their phones? Settings/Apps & Notifications/ Apps, then expand menu to show system apps.
Again, is anybody else seeing two bluetooth apps? Wouldn't this create a conflict with anything trying to connect? How can I delete the old app since they are both system apps? TIA
I've also got two apps. Enable Developer options and try to change Bluetooth - AVRCP version to AVRCP 1.4 (Default). After that my TomTom watch could connect to G6 without problems. Maybe it will be also a solution for your problem.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've done as suggested with mixed results. I unpaired my G6 from my Prius, deleted the G6 profile from the Prius and still got the BT connecting and then disconnecting. I didn't have time to reboot so I wonder if that may be my issue (cache memory?). I'll try that at lunch. However, after a minute or so, I was able to stream uninterrupted. Thanks for the suggestion and solution, hopefully
I'm having a similar issue with my G6 and a 2016 Subaru Outback. Keeps dropping the connection and connecting. Sometimes it is ok for a while. Sometimes it keeps doing it from the time I start the car. Worked great until 8.0 update. See thread here: https://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/138-gen-5-2015-2019/501767-bluetooth-connection-issues-lg-g6.html#post5728313
Update: Still having mixed results (when connecting to my Prius). so, after some connection back and forth, I have been successful with streaming Pandora and Amazon Prime for more than 20 minutes w/o interruption.
I've tried Google Play in the car and it's as if the connection is possessed. It's so unstable that it makes me believe Google Play is somehow responsible. Yet, my BT headphones connect and play without issue for over 1hr while mulching leaves.
I still don't fully understand how their can be 2 Bluetooth apps on my phone without any type of conflict, especially since they are different versions. I'm thinking that when my phone updated to Oreo, the old Bluetooth app/file didn't get removed.
@TheGs - Have you done a factory reset? If so, how many bluethooth files/versions on phone after reset? I was hoping a reset would fix this puppy. I too am on TMo/H872.
I still have two apps after a factory reset. (I'm just here because I've had bluetooth crashing after the latest OTA from T-mobile.)
UPDATE: having followed the suggestion from @adamz667 above, I changed the AVRCP to 1.3 and so far so good. Bluetooth just connects with no interruptions what so ever. Maybe this will help if you are having simiilar issue.
@lovecomplex - thanks for replying on the number of bluetooth apps you have after reset. Now that I seemingly have resolved my issue I see no need to reset at this point, Good Luck!
got a brand new G6. Bluetooth is broken out of the box. I can't stream anything to any bluetooth devices. Changing it to AVRCP 1.3 under Developer Options made streaming possible but it is choppy. I am on Nov 1 android security patch.
WTF LG? It is brand new, brand new!
Hi all,
I've got a Withings Pulse Ox (Bluetooth activity tracker, like a fitbit) that I've had for the life of my OP5. It's always worked on OOS 4 and 5, however since upgrading to Android Pie (OOS 9.0.1) it refuses to pair with the phone. It is discoverable, and will attempt to pair but never succeeds. My other devices (headphones, and car audio) continue to work just as they did previously.
I've tried the usual array of rebooting phone, tracker, uninstalling and re-installing the Withings app - but never works (trying another phone, running an earlier version of Android pairs immediately). I'm talking to Withings Support, but they are being typically useless so far.
Phone is rooted, with Magisk, but the only modules I've got installed are related to the camera.
Has anyone had any experience of trackers not working since upgrading to Pie / have any suggestions for what else I could try?
After installing Pie i had connectivity issues with my Anker Soundsync Drive hands-free kit. I unpaired , cleared storage and cache of the Bluetooth and Bluetooth MIDI service app in "Settings --- Apps&Notifications --- See all xxx apps --- Show system --- Bluetooth / Bluetooth MIDI service --- Storage". After a reboot it connected flawlessly.
I hope this helps
V.
Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion. I've tried this but unfortunately still not pairing and syncing.
Hello,
1.Open the Fitbit app and start the sync process. It will say “looking…”
2.While it is looking for your device, quickly go to Android Bluetooth settings, choose Pair New Device, and select the tracker as if to pair it for the first time. (remember to remove it from your Bluetooth devices first)
3.Switch back to the app and the sync process should complete.
That's work for me.
OnePlus 5 - Android 9
Same problem for me. Still not fixed with 9.0.3.
SolykZ, have you got the same issue specifically with a Withings Pulse Ox device?

I own a Withings Pulse 0x and I had absolutely no problems with my previous phones and my current OP5t before the Pie update. I even full-wiped the phone "just in case" with no luck. Any other phone will pair without any issue. I can't try with another Pie phone since this one is my only one Pie-powered device, sadly.
Hi,
Any update about this?
Regards,
Chris.
Withings swapped my pulse for a Steel, as they couldn't work out what was going wrong (or they knew they messed up but didn't want to fix an old device).
Thanks a lot for your feedback. I'll contact them asap. Hopefully the french support (I'm from Belgium) will be that convenient with my own problem.
