GPS unusable after May Security update - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I updated via the OTA to the May update recently and now my GPS is totally messed up. It generally knows where I am when I start a trip, but then is super slow to update my location, and is a block or two off of my actual location. I tried doing a factory reset but this didn't solve the issue. Any ideas?

Have you tried using GPS Status and Toolbox?
Do this with a working Wi-Fi connection: Settings>>Manage A-GPS State>>Reset. Then within the same menu, hit download.

Only thing left to do now is to backup, wipe all partitions, and load a fresh image. If the problem remains, it is hardware related. I would make sure to fastboot FORMAT userdata, system and cache before flashing the latest full image.

I've noticed that the 7.1.2 is not fullty compatible with the settings that might be hanging around from 7.1.1 (or before).
To get my phone to function properly I had to do a clean install and wipe the phone completely.
before that I had SIM issues and Bluetooth issues.

"com.htc.provider" error

Hello,
I have strange behavior every time my Hero connects to internet (via Wi-Fi and also 3G) -> I'm getting "com.htc.provider" crash... After this exception everything seems to be working (Exchange mail push, weather updates, google talk) but this happens every time the phone connects to the network (for example to check the mail).
I'm running Modaco's latest ROM.
Anyone had this problem? Found a solution?
Thanks,
Darky
I had that problem when I first applied the 2.0 Modaco ROM. I had done a factory reset to wipe it.
I tried a second time, using the recovery image to wipe the data and then applied the ROM again. That seemed to have fixed the issue.
Hope that helps.
Thanks.. So you think this is a matter of wiping the info before? Will it also erase custom applications, locale settings?
The wipe removes all data related to applications and set up so you lose everything you may have customized. Some things have changed under the new ROM so some of the data formats aren't compatible anyway (unless you want to hack your data files). The "com.htc.provider" issue seemed to have been related but I couldn't be sure. I just noted that doing the recovery ROM wipe and a re-install of the new ROM cleared the error - which was a very annoying error when connecting via WiFi (or disconnecting).
YMMV.
Thanks... Did "wipe" and upgraded to latest Modaco ROM - now it is perfect
I did a wipe from the rescue menu and re-installed this morning but I'm still getting the com.htc.provider error! I'm reluctant to try again immediately as I had a lot of set up done before the error re-surfaced. Has anyone any suggestions? Should I wipe the sd card too?
There's a suggestion on androidforums.com that it might be something to do with twitter (see here) but my friend has a Hero (with RUU ROM) and he's not getting the error!

Assisted GPS vs 3G problem

Hello, everyone!
I have StreakDroid 1.9.0 installed, and I have a problem with Assisted GPS and 3G. When I leave "Use assisted GPS" check on, and start any application which uses GPS (like Google Maps), my 3G data connection is lost and it can't be restored until reboot. I also have this problem with versions 1.5.3, 1.6.1, 1.8.1, even after factory reset (I've not tried it with 1.9.0 yet, 'cause I don't want reinstall everything again.
Does anyone meet this problem too? How can I solve it?

this is probably best posted in the 1.9 thread of the rom you are using... I do not have these issues running an oem rom like 345.
thats odd, never heard of something like that happening.
Maybe try going to settings > wireless & networks > Mobile Networks and doulbe check your access point names. Maybe toggling the Data enabled box would give it a kick and remind it to keep data on.
Also to update to 1.9 you don't need to factory reset, just flash the .zip from streakmod or clockworkmod recovery, reboot and it should boot with all your apps and data still in place (unless you run into an issue and need to factory reset, but thats why you should do a full nandroid backup before flashing any rom )

[Q] Com.android.phone has stopped working...can't sent texts either

ATT S5 with Straight Talk sim. Towel root and stuff. I can't place calls but can receive them. The antenna reception icon is replaced with the little "banned" (circle with line through it...think no smoking signs). Any fixes?
First try wiping the system cache. Boot to recovery mode and wipe the cache. If the problem persists, go the application manager in the settings menu and clear cache and data for the process (app).
That will resolve most issues. There have been hundreds of threads about xxx has stopped working, so if you had done a search you would already have found this.
If your luck is bad and the above doesn't fix the error, then presumably you have something unusual happening e.g. a corrupt system file or non-obvious conflicting app. You can try temporarily removing recently installed apps or resetting your phone.
To reset your phone, backup any files that are important to you. Then write a full, stock firmware image with Odin, followed by a facotry ata reset. It's recommended that you use a pre-June 6th firmware build to assure that you can easily Towel root again.

You should provide more information e.g. a detailed, step by step description of what you are trying in aid of discerning where you have gone awry. It's implausible that you wrote a full stock firmware image plus cleared the system cache and a factory data reset and still have the problem remaining.
Those steps would restore any changes that you could have made to the keyloayout files and then some. Ergo, there is something that you have left out or possibly an error or omission in one of the steps you took towards reverting your phone.

1- Check your IMEI by *#06# and *#0011#. Is it still OK and PASS?
2- In the most cases, flashing the stock firmware may fix the problem.

S8+ Android Pie update lost after factory reset?

Hey guys! So I recently got the option to update to android pie, now since I have the phone for 1.5 years unrooted and it started to be a little slow i decided to factory reset it before updating, now after actually doing the reset it does not show the update anymore and keeps showing me the phone software is up to date, any suggestions? thanks!

Assume you've tried to manually check for updates right?
If that does not work go to your apps, turn on show system apps, now find them "Google services framework" app and clear data, then immediately reboot.

What do you mean manually? Ive checked in the software updates many times since then, tried wiping cache, and google services framework data, tried checking with smart switch. Nothing.

By manually I just meant tapping the update manually button.
Can you use the emergency recovery option in SmartSwitch? Maybe it will reflash current or part of rom or at least reset a system version flag (that maybe factory reset doesn't). I guessing here, never had to use it, but if it was me I'd give it a try.
Only other ways I know would be to flash with Odin, or via recovery or use ADB (obviously make sure you have the correct file for your phone region, provider etc research if you are not familiar with doing this)

6t Android 10 gps issue / not working

Hi all,
after flashing A10 stable (coming from 9.0.17) two days ago, I just noticed, that my GPS is not working properly.
Besides that everything else seems to be working fine.
I flashed full update via OTA installer and then flashed a magisk boot image.
Location data is switched on.
Opening e.g. google maps now does not seem to trigger the gps symbol on the status bar.
Also its not getting any location update.
Same appears for other apps.
I cleared cache via stock recovery and also cleared cache of google maps, location services, google play services and fuse location separatly, after some research.
Also I restarted the phone.
That did not do the trick.
Is anybody else experiencing this issue or might give some support?
Thanks and BR,
Vincent
Experiencing the same. Been reading many on other Oneplus and Pixels phones experiencing the same after A10. What I don't understand why hasn't this issue been picked up more aggressively by the community/company yet..
What works for me intermittently is to disable and re-enable Maps and it will pick up the current location. Otherwise it'll continue to think I'm on the previous one, and something interesting even if I move, it'll continue to hold the previous location as the center point and map the changes around that.. Funny!
I think updating to A10 really requires a full reset.
Try installing Global Optimized GPS File Replacer module, really helped a lot getting the GPS to work much much better
Hi any solution yet
Clean install A10 to solve the issues
Same issue here. Just started noticing it today. Been on stable since day 1.
How will a clean install solve the issue?
And how do I clean install when I'm rooted with stock recovery?

And what about my root? I would have to use adb from pc again?
I'm not having any issues with GPS.

You have to flash the patched img on fastboot to obtain root...
So not such a big deal...
Im having this issue too, noticed today when tried to navigate via maps, the gps test app works properly but gps apps doesn't.
any solution? Tried the cache reset, location cache clearing without any success.
I think I managed to find a workaround which doesn't involve a factory reset:
Settings -> System -> Reset options -> Reset app preferences (this doesn't affect apps data)
Settings -> Apps & notifications -> See all XXX apps -> (3 dots in the upper right corner) -> Show system -> Clear storage and cache of the following apps:
Google Maps
Google Play services
Google Services Framework
LocationServices
Phone Services
Fused Location
Google Location History
OPMmsLocation
I wiped Dalvik cache in TWRP.
I'm not sure all steps are necessary but resetting apps preferences is the key one I think. It's going to reset the permissions of all apps but it's a good alternative to reinstall everything from scratch. The issue of the GPS fix in Google Maps hasn't come back for me since.
