Hello,
I have strange behavior every time my Hero connects to internet (via Wi-Fi and also 3G) -> I'm getting "com.htc.provider" crash... After this exception everything seems to be working (Exchange mail push, weather updates, google talk) but this happens every time the phone connects to the network (for example to check the mail).
I'm running Modaco's latest ROM.
Anyone had this problem? Found a solution?
Thanks,
Darky
I had that problem when I first applied the 2.0 Modaco ROM. I had done a factory reset to wipe it.
I tried a second time, using the recovery image to wipe the data and then applied the ROM again. That seemed to have fixed the issue.
Hope that helps.
Thanks.. So you think this is a matter of wiping the info before? Will it also erase custom applications, locale settings?
The wipe removes all data related to applications and set up so you lose everything you may have customized. Some things have changed under the new ROM so some of the data formats aren't compatible anyway (unless you want to hack your data files). The "com.htc.provider" issue seemed to have been related but I couldn't be sure. I just noted that doing the recovery ROM wipe and a re-install of the new ROM cleared the error - which was a very annoying error when connecting via WiFi (or disconnecting).
YMMV.
Thanks... Did "wipe" and upgraded to latest Modaco ROM - now it is perfect
I did a wipe from the rescue menu and re-installed this morning but I'm still getting the com.htc.provider error! I'm reluctant to try again immediately as I had a lot of set up done before the error re-surfaced. Has anyone any suggestions? Should I wipe the sd card too?
There's a suggestion on androidforums.com that it might be something to do with twitter (see here) but my friend has a Hero (with RUU ROM) and he's not getting the error!

hi guys,
i tried to change my gmail email just now and in an attempt tried the original method of factory reset.. i am running the CM4.0.4 ROM and that did nothing but i eventually figured out how to change the email..but ever since i did the factory reset the phone has been showing in the notification bar:
ongoing:
loading data, please wait
this has been going on for about an hour now...i have apps2sd working but all my apps run fine even after the reset.
any way to get to go away? thanks
Same here. I'm getting it on Cyan 4.1.11.1. This was on a brand new setup meaning ext wipe and phone wipe. Mod, should this question be moved to the Q&A section? I am looking into the issue. I think it may have something to do with My Backup Pro but I can't confirm this. It happened to me after using that app as well as when I did a bulk install via adb.
Run fix_permissions
Running a fix_permissions in console seems to have fixed the problem.
My Vibrant is having some serious issues. I've only found one other person that seems to have my issues and that thread went out of control so I'm starting another.
Symptom:
Within 5ish (if that) minutes of a factory reset, the market will get stuck on Starting Download... for any application. Nothing fixes it. I can download 10ish applications but that's all.
Attempted Fixes:
Factory Reset
Various ROMs via Odin
Flash JFD ROM with "repartition" option selected, then flash another ROM over that without repartition
Factory Reset and different Gmail account to set up the phone
"Easy Fixes" like logging in to GTalk, resetting Market cache, switching networks and over to wifi in any combination and every other suggestion that doesn't work.
Notes:
Everything was working fine until that OTA update came in and I opted to install it without checking online to see if there were any issues. Of course, the update froze halfway through and I used Odin to install JI6, then all these issues started.
This is my first phone and it used to work perfectly well in any number of locations around where I live. Now it doesn't work anywhere.
I periodically get spammed with a lot of application downloads that I didn't initiate and they all turn up unsuccessful (since the problems started).
I tried using the Appbrain quick web installer feature which may or may not have caused the problem.
I am currently using Bionix 1.8 with VOODOO.
My wife's phone has the same set up and works. I tried her Gmail account on mine after a factory reset and I had the same issues.
Any suggestions?
When you flashed JI6 did you use the pit file?
are you restoring any backups after you flash?
I posted this in another thread. Someone did this with success and it worked for me too. The key thing "AND Uninstall updated"
I have managed to sort this now - here's what I did:
Go into settings - applications - manage applications- scroll down to market & long touch to open. Clear cache AND Uninstall updated. It will ask for confirmation and then uninstall. I then went back to market and Bluetooth file transfer downloaded and installed with no probs. Hope this helps anyone else with same problem.

Also have you ran a "Fix permissions" from RomManager? It seems to help with a lot of these strange errors ....
Sorry for not responding... work is keeping me busy.
Anyway, when I go Manage Applications, select Filter~>All and go down to Market there is nothing to do with Uninstall. I tried long clicking and that did nothing. When I click on Market, the only buttons are Clear Cache, Clear Defaults, and Force Stop. Am I missing something?
To answer other questions, both the JI6 and JFD .tar files I used (found on xda) came with their own .pit files and I did use the respective .pit files when flashing. After the flash, all I do is install Appbrain and start loading my applications again (no other restoration methods). I've run fix_permissions and that didn't help when I ran it though I've only done it once or twice in the whole process.
Note - I have Market 1714.
Cleared the download manager cache?
+1 on Fix Permissions in ROM Manager. This has fixed many market issues.
The TMo Android customer service folk had me try clearing the Download Manager's cache (and I tried again just for laughs) with no results. Tried fix permissions again with no luck. My replacement (refurbished? from TMo) should show up today.
Got the new phone (with JI6 on it and the new market that keeps applications up-to-date), flashed Bionix Fusion 1.1 and things look to be working pretty well. My signal is noticeably better than it was before (it used to be good then got worse for some reason so I guess it's back to what it used to be).
I paid $10 for 7-10 business day shipping or something like that but I got a text about it shipping on the 25th and it got here today (after being back-ordered) so I'm relatively satisfied. Sure would like to know what's wrong with the other phone and how to fix it if need be in the future but I'll just avoid accepting any OTA updates in the future.
i used the latest unrevoked a while back, clockwork loaded up fine. i wanted to change my default email and was a little hasty to give up and do a factory reset. after the reset i immediately used unrevoked again, and everything went smoothly.
however my market just doesn't work. it originally refused to even start, i installed a patch and now it starts but will not download.. (the status icon never shows and eventually i get the error message)
has anyone had and solved this problem on their Aria? i've been searching for ways to manually clear the Google Apps and Market data... i'm not going to mess around in root until i know what i'm doing

Hey everyone I need some urgent help before I leave in 6 hours for a business trip ( and I NEED a working phone )
Long story short I was running Task650's rom with no issues for about 3-4 weeks
2 days ago my phone was just ripping through battery ( 100-0% in 2 hours ) Did some investigating and "mediascannerservice" was running none stop. I couldn't figure out why or how to fix it.
format, wiped / reset and clear cache and davik..installed the same rom
Same issue.
this time I formatted everything ( system, data, cache, sd card ) ( I had everything off that I wanted to keep )
Flashed a 4.3 rom and I couldn't install any packages ( mostly google packages like chrome and G+ ) I kept getting "package file is invalid" I did all the tricks I found online that people used to fix it...but no avail. So I thought it was a 4.3 thing.
did another wipe / format etc
I went back to Task650s rom which is a 4.2.2 rom ( that worked fine installing apps ) and I'm getting the same error ( package file is invalid )
What could be the issue? How can I fix it? What did I mess up?
any help would be greatly appreciated. I'll paypal anyone if they help me.

Edit, there have been others reporting a similar issue with invalid packages. It could be a simple as an issue with Google's servers. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44379885

I am also getting it on a few apps that are trying to update. I noticed it starting last night.
I googled package file is invalid and looks like a few others are reporting problems..I'd wait it out a bit. So.. want my PayPal info?
If you're still running tasks aokp, there is an option in developer settings to disable media scanner on boot. Try disabling it and see if it stops the drain

Try turning off WiFi and install apps over cellular network.
Do you have an SD card inserted? Take the card out and see if it changes.

I found some other options and posted them in the other thread.
Clearing Play Store app cache and data and even uninstalling Play Store updates are other options.
Been Googling the heck out of this for a while now as I had the issue briefly, but toggling the Verify app selection worked for me.

I did steps a good 4-6 times. I get the same error..
I also unchecked verify app...same error
I'm out of ideas, but if you can manage to deal with the redundancy of a Google search, there seems to be about a dozen different ways to get past the issue.
I had that issue once yesterday while my phone tried doing an auto-update. No issues today. I was on 4.3 KB.

Man this sucks. I'm temped to ODIN back to stock and start fresh.
Try installing Hotspot Shield VPN and installing updates with it connected - worked for both my phone and my wives...it is the only thing that seems to resolve this issue - and I've been trouble shooting it for about 24 hours now. If you can't get Hotspot Shield to install, try Hideman VPN. Works just as well, but it has limited use. I had to disable wifi to get them to install.
If that works for you - I can send paypal info

did you ever answer if you had an i337 or i337m?
I use OUDhs recovery and I have been using Task 650's AOKP ROM without issue.
You must do the following:
Flash the OUDhs recovery if you dont' have it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2291956
Per Task's Thread -
Wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache (found in advanced)
format system (do this again anyway)
format data (do this again anyway)
fix permissions (found in advanced)
Flash the AOKP ROM
You can now wipe both cache again or just reboot.

wait... are you installing the gapps from Tasks650s page? If you aren't then please do so and your problems should be fixed.
Started with OMNI shown on galaxynote2root.com. Was working nearly flawlessly until today when I lost my mobile network (all services: phone, text, data - antenna was essentially gone). Not clear on exactly what I did when it occurred but I did flash 1/13/14 nightly manually via CWM (have done this with the previous nightly's without any problems). Tried wiping cache/data, Dalvik w/o luck. Tried formatting my internal SD also w/o luck. Doing a fresh install (as opposed to restore) did restore all mobile network services but of course I am now having to re-setup my phone. After installing fresh install, tried restoring w/o any wipe - again no luck.
Quite frustrating. I had read something out there that talked about remapping the tree (not sure what this means). In any case, is there a fix for this so I can restore my prior backups with mobile services working and also avoid this the future?
So here we go again; no service after wipe. Grrrrrrrr!!

So here we go again. Went to load the stock Sprint TouchWiz ROM. Wiped cache partition, wiped Dalvik, and did stand wipe cache/data. Had some issue with the stock ROM flashing so I went ahead and loaded my backup I just made of my newly setup OMNI ROM. And once again no network service what so ever. I really enjoy this ROM but it's thinks like this that push me back to the most supported ROM for my phone, the TouchWiz ROM. It's like I'm being held hostage to this Omni ROM in the sense that it appears that should I want do any wipe of any sorts or anything to that effect I'm essentially screwed and might as well just flash the the original ROM all over again.
There's got to be one of you Dev's out there that knows why this is happened and can let me know if there is a fix for this that will allow me to keep my setup as is. Someone who's knows, please response. If you need more info, please ask. I'm about to ditch this ROM over this issue. Otherwise, nearly flawless use of the ROM until this point.
Okay, so I was able to find a fix for this problem. After the complete wipe as described in my second post, I restored my recent backup. As mentioned above, no mobile service whatsoever at that pont. I then restarted back into CWM recovery and flashed the same version nightly as that of my backup and it appeared to do an update. I was then able to boot back into my restored backup with everything intact and all mobile services working.
Yes, I found a fix for myself but Devs why the heck do I have to go through that? Why cannot I not simply restore my backup and go on with life? Much headache over the past day or so over this.
So I installed the the 1/13/14 nightly as a fresh install. I stared messing around with advanced restore. When I restore only the /system folder that is when I lose all mobile cell services.
