Landscape to portrait & bsck - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I must have inadvertently turned off the automatic screen orientation feature of my S7 Edge. It would automatically switch orientation based upon how one oriented the phone but I find it will no longer do this. How do I retrieve this feature?

swipe down from top of screen to get the quick setting and turn on portrait.
depending on how your settings are arranged you may need to swipe on setting to bring the full view to find portrait mode.

Disabling orientation change on power on and keyboard slide.

Anyone know if it is possible to change the TyTn's annoying habit of making unwanted reversions from landscape to portrait orientation?
On my machine it:
1. Always changes to portrait when the device is switched on, even if it was in landscape when it switched off. Some idiot obviously thought this was a "feature" since it comes up in landscape initially and then switches to portrait as you watch.
2. Changes to portrait when the keyboard slide is closed even if it was in landscape before the slide was opened. This is a useful feature poorly thought through. Auto switch to landscape on open IS logical, but it should not assume you want to go back to portrait when the slide is closed again.
I'd be very happy if I could just disable both these "features", but ideally I'd be able to keep "switch to landscape on slide open", with or without "revert to previous orientation on slide close".

I don't have problem #1, and I wonder if it's being caused by the orientation sensor being triggered at the wrong time. The sensor is magnetic, so if there is a magnet (any magnet) making contact the screen orientation will be landcape. Others here have noticed that even the magnetic closures on the official Tytn case from HTC will trigger the change.
Problem #2 is strictly software and yes, it's damn annoying when a UI designer assumes that the only functionality needed is the one that best fits his/her needs with no regard to anyone else. The only solution I can offer you, short of writing an app to do this yourself is to map a key to orientation switching and switch it yourself once you retract the keyboard. (A side gripe here is why the orientation settings are buried so deep that only a power user can find it).
I think I did see an app for changing orientation but will need to search.
By the way it starts (sometimes) in landscape because the mechanism that changes orientation is a magnet switch. A magnet on the keyboard is moved when you slide it open and operates the switch. Howver since there are powerful magnets in some carrying cases these can operate the switch (as if the keyboard was open) Then when you take it out of the pouch it takes a second or to and reverts to portrait.
You can operate the switch manually by running a magnet along the side of the casing. (not that I'm suggesting that as a solution )
EDIT: perhaps this will help

Thanks guys.
I have been able to get a rotation icon on the today screen (iLauncher) and to map rotation to a hard-key using a combination of iLauncher and Resco KeyMapper. But rotation takes a noticable time (seems to redraw at least four times, probably a poor model for the today screen plugin architecture) and it is irritating to have to do it twice when you do not want it at all.
With further experimentation I find it goes according to the slide position when switched on - if you open the slide and then turn on, it always switches to landscape, if you switch on with the slide closed it always switches to portrait. I suppose this makes sense - it reads this magnetic switch at power on and acts accordingly. But if Rob is right, maybe this is a "feature" of one of the utilities I've installed. Next time I have to do a hard reset I'll see if it still happens with the base OS.
I was really hoping there'd be a registry key I could change to modify this behaviour or that there'd be some utility I could buy that allowed me to hook any action I wanted to the slide switch (or none). For example, it would be more ergonomic if it turned on on opening the slide as well as changing to landscape.
See what you mean about the magnet - maybe if I got a strong enough one it would permanently magnetise and stick!

Force landscape mode regardless of slide-out keyboard position?

Is it possible to keep the 6800 in landscape mode at ALL times unless I manually press a mapped key or click a rotate icon? There are alot of times where I'm sending tons of text messages and I'm constantly opening and closing the phone and the delay for the screen to rotate around gets REALLY annoying. I'd really like it if I could just keep it in landscape mode and switch it back manually when I'm done
Thanks in advance for any advice!
start, settings, personal, sceen allows you to rotate orientation.
You're right, it does. But that setting is overridden whenever you slide the keyboard in/out. So if I were to go set my 6800 to landscape manually, then open the keyboard and close it again, it will automatically go back to portrait mode regardless of what I've set as my personal setting.
I'm looking for a way to stop my 6800 from automatically changing the screen orientation when the keyboard is slid in or out
try this it should work for you.
Thanks for that. It will suffice for the time being until I find some way to make the change fully manual. Seems I've found some people on PPC Geeks who are looking for a solution to this as well.
Hopefully someday someone will figure it out
supposedly someone is going to post something that may help!

Auto rotate stopped working

I just got the HTC touch (love it so far) but after I installed the Sprint TV app (or about the same time, not sure if that was the direct cause) the auto rotate feature stopped working.
I can manually rotate to landscape mode but it doesn't automatic flip when I tilt the phone to the side. I've restarted, removed sprint tv, soft reset, but still isn't working.
If autorotate ever worked on your Vogue, it would be the first Vogue I've ever heard of that has that feature.
Whatever he's on, I want it.
The Vogue never had an auto-rotate.

If you have spb mobile shell 2 on your phone it will auto rotate your screen
from portrait to landscape mode. I have it (spb) on my phone (XV6900) and I just tried
it. It works.
maybe when you use a certain program like sprint tv, but it definately won't auto rotate like an iphone.
If you have mobile shell
2 it will rotate whatever
is on the screen - today
screen , email , etc. from
portrait to landscape.

Go to the tools section and push the rotate screen button.
By the way , when you
turn on the camera ,
the screen " autorotates"
to the landscape mode.
well when u open the camera it does not really Rotate the screen that's just how the camera opens the screens in behind it are still in portrait. If the screen is in portrait "mode" when you open the camera then something is wrong. And if you press a button to have it rotate that is not really auto rotate. so if by auto rotate you mean the view changes to landscape when you rotate the phone sideways that is something the vogue does not do. It does not have the hardware to detect orientation changes.
rofl the touch doesn't have a g sensor so autorotate is impossible.
Guys, no need to waste any more time on this. I think the reason for the question and confusion is a clear case of "spin".
It is true that when the Sprint TV application launches, it changes the screen orientation to landscape. When you close it, it switches back to portrait. You could say that it "automatically" does that. There is similar behavior for the camera and fullscreen video playback (if you have configured your device for it).
It is also true that the iPhone has a built-in piece of hardware that the Touch does not. This little gizmo (essentially an accelerometer) allows the phone to know when you have turned it on its side, and it will switch to landscape. This is an automatic process, and it is different from what the Touch does.
The Touch will never automatically rotate the screen unless someone here (hint, hint) writes an app that allows it to do so. One idea would be to use the camera to track the orientation of the device, and hence detect if the phone has been moved. This has obvious issues as the camera does eat up additional juice when it's on, and I'm not sure what the processing requirements are. We can make a thread on this in the hacking forum.

I don't know what you are smoking but I want some cause I have Mobil Shell 2 and it does not auto rotate. I have had my Touch 7 months and I have never had it auto rotate, I have to do it manually. As far as I understand it we do not have the necessary hardware for autorotation.
my camera "rotated"
hey.. maybe someone can explain this to me
one time when i turne don my camera. it was in portrait mode...
but it only did it once.. i realy dont like having it in landscape mode.
is there a way to get it to work in portrait mode all the time???
hey

Where can I go to download the mobile shell 2 then so mine will also rotate?
there has to be a tilt switch in the vogue, and there is not one in the sprint touch. so it will NOT AUTO rotate.

If the app at any point forces it into landscape, it'll stay landscape if auto-rotate is off at that instance.
It's because you're pissed, and you can't tell vertical from horizontal

Yeah it's a bug, but it's a wierd one.
Took me an hour of googling and messing about, but basically, if you lock rotation in preferences or any 3rd party 'lock rotation' widget, it'll immediately jump into landscape and stay there.
However if you tap on the battery on the bottom right, then the icon under the time (looks like a musical stave) a menu comes up. If you disable auto rotate there it stays in portrait and doesn't jump into landscape.

change orientation in Landscape apps CM7

Is there a way to change the landscape orientation of the kindle (using CM7) for full screen apps? More specifically, I have several games that are played in a landscape orientation, but they do not rotate if you turn the device upside down. The design of my case has a sort of stand, but the way its stands up is the opposite direction than most apps seem to default to. Is there a way to change the default landscape orientation?

I've tried doing the same thing and can not find a way to do it. I did try disabling the 90 degree rotation but the games still play in the default landscape mode.
solved my own problem! check out this app here get your device in the orientation you want, and then lock it. it will keep that orientation when you go into apps. however, its not pretty and the simple ui isn't perfect. I'm thinking this would work better...but it costs money...so we'll see. this works for now though
