Hey folks!
As you may or may not know, Android Lollipop was recently announced with a lot of new features, and Sony mentioned it's coming to the Z1 as well. One of these features however is barely mentioned by news articles, but it could make a world of difference to the Xperia Z1, potentially making the device a whole lot better.
It's the new Camera API I'm talking about. If you bought the Z1 for its camera capabilities, don't you hate how you're unable to manually set exposure (contrary to the "adjustment" slider)? Don't you hate how quite a few high-end devices are now able to shoot in RAW format but you can't? Don't you hate how you cannot change manual focus? Fear not, for the new Camera API in Android Lollipop will add all of this, possibly even to our devices.
<check the features of this experimental L Camera app to see what features are working on Android Lollipop already for the Nexus 5>
Disclaimer: I'm not 100% sure all of these features will make its way to the Z1 of course - but in my eyes it's more likely than not that Sony will update their camera application for this.
Interesting. If this is correct, then Z1 will be way better in camera performance.
Can't wait to see what's new in Sony's firmware.
Yeah i',m really looking forward to RAW as well.
Anyone familiar with the kickstarter project COBI?
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cobi/cobi-worlds-smartest-connected-biking-system
Looks really nice for biking enthusiasts, only problem is that our Sony Xperia Z3 Compact is not supported at the moment.
If you also want support for the Z3C please vote here: http://eepurl.com/-x2zD
Video of COBI:

+1 That's going to be nice if it makes it to market. And with the Z3C being waterproof we wouldn't need and extra cover.
looks to be an innovative solution. One flaw is the Z3 needs to be in portrait to be visible with polarised sunglasses.
I've modded a Z3C as a bike computer and having good results so far
very interesting project, thanks for sharing
Good news guys, the Kickstarter project has almost reached the next stretchgoal! At the moment 327k has been pledged and at 350k there will be support for the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
This stretchgoal will also add support for more devices, including:
– HTC One M8
– LG G3
– Motorola Moto X (2014)
– OnePlus One
– Samsung Galaxy Note 4
– Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
Tell your friends so we can reach the stretchgoal!

Haha, thanks for the link. I came here after surfing the web and reading every article on WMC. Sony launched the z4 tablet, and the M4 Aqua mid-range phone. None of these two products interfere with the z3 compact, and so far I'm thinking we won't actually see a z4 tablet compact
I'm hoping we will though, because that will mean a huge price drop for the Z3TC - but unlikely as it isn't even a year old yet.
Sony said they will cut down product releases this year. I was surprised there wasn't a z4 phone at mwc, I guess they will release it later, with probably the same specs as the z4 tablet. Also, the z4 tab is more of a z2 tab succesor.
The good news is that the new devices come with lollipop pre-installed, so we're probably getting it soon as well.

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet First Look!: http://youtu.be/sjo0IUEy3Ec
This a hands on video with the new device and a small preview of the new xperia ui with lollipop.
My z3tc is white as well, and when I'm looking at the video it's like like seeing a bigger version of my tab. They look very similar and the materials are probably the same.
So, Is it really worth waiting for Z4 or can I get Z3TC? No reading, just watching videos and a bit of browsing. I'm driving myself nuts trying to decide between Z3TC and Nexus 9.
I tried different tabs before getting the sony, and having a note 3 I'm pretty spoiled with quality. The z3tc is a really great device, solid build qualitty, decent screen and great performance. The z4 is definetly better, with a much better cpu and gpu, and also a very good display. It's obviously better for watching videos and mostly everything. So it's up to preference, I prefer a smaller and more compact tablet, but if you prefer larger devices, then the z4 is definitely the better choice.
Hi-res bluetooth
For me one of the most interesting things about the Z4 is the new Sony LDAC Bluetooth codec.
The Sony LDAC codec allows Bluetooth audio streaming at 24 bit Hi-res quality.
Whereas with normal Bluetooth you can stream up to CD quality 44khz the new LDAC codec can supposedly stream 3X the data.
http://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/hi-res-audio-wireless-multi-room
Of course you also need LDAC headphones and speakers.
If it is just software then hopefully Sony can give us an update with it.
colorOs camera app has excellent interface and Lotz of customisation. This has already been ported on One plus one. I hope it would be easier to port to our devices. Developers, what do you say, is that easy? Can someone one please port this to our device?
Xnext™ WalkMan
This modification is made to give the best possible audio experience on Sony Xperia Devices.
Unique features
ALSA custom sound control, crosscompiled with Qualcomm Compiler
updated opus, vorbis and flac codecs
stripped audio effects, for reduced audio processing (and better sound performance)
32bit / 96.0khz (Xperia 1iii / 1ii / 1 / 5 iii / 5 ii / 5)
24bit / 96.0khz (all other devices)
everything is logged, you can check what this modification is doing ( /system/usr/share/alsa/debug )
execute with a terminal as root:
check ( audioflinger dump )
test.sh ( place a wave audio file on your internal storage, name it test.wav, then execute the script, this will play your file direct via aplay )
you can also use aplay, arecord, alsactl, amixer alsaucm directly, if you are familiar with it ( if you mess something up - its your own fault, but you can ask for help anyway )
custom Dolby Atmos configuration
audio output power is greatly improved, so be careful with the volume
