Android Lollipop for Z1 - Rejoice: improved camera API! - Xperia Z1 General

Hey folks!
As you may or may not know, Android Lollipop was recently announced with a lot of new features, and Sony mentioned it's coming to the Z1 as well. One of these features however is barely mentioned by news articles, but it could make a world of difference to the Xperia Z1, potentially making the device a whole lot better.
It's the new Camera API I'm talking about. If you bought the Z1 for its camera capabilities, don't you hate how you're unable to manually set exposure (contrary to the "adjustment" slider)? Don't you hate how quite a few high-end devices are now able to shoot in RAW format but you can't? Don't you hate how you cannot change manual focus? Fear not, for the new Camera API in Android Lollipop will add all of this, possibly even to our devices.
<check the features of this experimental L Camera app to see what features are working on Android Lollipop already for the Nexus 5>
Disclaimer: I'm not 100% sure all of these features will make its way to the Z1 of course - but in my eyes it's more likely than not that Sony will update their camera application for this.

Interesting. If this is correct, then Z1 will be way better in camera performance.
Can't wait to see what's new in Sony's firmware.

Yeah i',m really looking forward to RAW as well.

Android 5.0 Lollipop RAW/DNG images & M8 Camera

Hi All:
Google will bring Android 5.0 Lollipop soon, with this update the new camera API version 2.0 will replace the old API, version 2.0 will bring the ability to take lossless RAW (DNG) pictures.
I'm wondering how that will work with the 4 MP Ultra Pixel camera !!
I know that the M8 is taking very cool pictures now, but how that will work in Lollipop update ?!
I hope to see camera improvement specially in over lighted environment in general with more manual controls over the M8 camera.
I hope camera & imaging experts provide us with their expectations regarding the M8 camera.

Please use existing threads were possible. There is an Android L thread here: Android L discussion thread that this could have discussed in.

So according to those news, the camera on z4 will be the same as z3's with some small software improvements. This could be something big, raw or more manual settings perhaps even better whitebalance.I don't think raw functionality could be ported but atleast we'd have a better camera app if the news aren't lying.
What's your opinion on this? How satisfied are you with the current camera app we've got?
Not worth the upgrade. The 810 SoC is really bad on battery and has tons of issue with overheating. Plus smaller battery? No thanks. I'll stick with my Z2. Still performs flawless so far and looks the same as the Z4.
My upgrade is due in August i have been hoping it would be about the right time for the Z4 ,
But i just was hoping for better after all i did not bother with the z3 because it the same as i already have,,,,,

Exactly, though if it does have the same camera but with improved software, it would benefit us z2 users.
@lodger
Z2 is a decent flagship, I don't think an upgrade is neccessary however if you do upgrade don't go for Z4, snapdragon 810 has overheating issues, it will have smaller battery plus more power consumption.
Go for S6 or S6 edge.I know samsung has quality issues but those two are premium phones. They don't have snapdragon afterall, rumor says samsung tried 810 but couldn't deal with the heat so they used their own chipset which has great battery/performance.
so the official words is this will be called the Z3+, not the Z4.

Time to switch to LG G4.
I'll be sticking with the Z2 thanks, until ara comes out at least
the Z3+ supports alot of manual settings like Manual Focus, shutter speed,ISO and white balance. So there is hope for us too. ( :
^ + 1
This makes me happy, manual controls is what is needed on a phone with a good camera
manual control is introduced for the z3+ but still no raw support
check this video
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ng9Cqcs2-CA
Thats disapointing
Raw support would make my college work so much easier.
Lets hope sony bring raw mode
Someone will mod and port those settings to Z2!
Still Z3+ isn't a worthy update. A true Z4 with 820 SOC when it comes.

How do you all know if the Z4 have heating issues, do you have it ? No the device isn't out yet so you all cant complain, Sony fix that probarly till the release and if someone have the Z4 then we can talk about it and please dont say Samsung is a quality phone since they have the s6, Sony is a better quality phone and for sure a better design, let samsung stick on thier plastic devices !
every phone that has a S810 built in has been hot till now. And if not it's been throttling down like hell.
Even this Chinaphone (name forgotten sorry) which had 5 patent's pending on cooling technology and said they will get the dragon tamed failed.
and from a material point of view glass is not really a good material for heat transportation. I don't expect any kind of Magic from Sony in this case.
But yeah, we will see that with the first reviews
btw Camera.... we have a IMX220 sensor in our Z2 right? Same as Z3...
Z4 will also get this one or the 16MP IMX240 as in SGS6 and Note4, with native 16:9 resolution.
Though the IMX230 is said to ship in April 2015.... still 4:3 and some pretty neat features.

sold my Z2 and upgraded to a LG G4 international unlocked model. Couldn't be happier. Best upgrade ever. Everything is better than the Z2 and the camera is way more advance than Sony's camera.

Sony Xperia Z4s Camera And Interface

This year, few smartphones have been as talked about – or subject to as many leaks – as the Sony Xperia Z4, and along those lines we present to you the latest batch of photos to trickle onto the web via in2mobile and NWE. Click through on the links to see the slideshows in full.
What’s interesting is that the phone in these shots shows the model number E6553, the same number that appeared in leaked benchmark tests last week. Either it’s the same phone or someone’s very handy with a photo editor.
Another image shows the camera around the back of the supposed Xperia Z4. It looks a lot like the snapper fixed to last year’s Xperia Z3 – based on earlier rumours we are expecting the megapixel rating to be the same but with an upgrade for the internal sensor.

Disagree with my usage so far, camera is okay, same as Z3, no optical stabilisation and is now falling behind both the S6 and G4 for quality imo. Also have installed pocketcasts and there is noticeable lag while watching video podcasts, first phone I have had that has done this.
Also I am disappointed that Sony have once again resorted to applying a shatter resistant screen, this does not have oleophobic coating, gets easily smudged which really shows up in the sunlight.
Personally I think Sony have launched the Z3+ (Z4) just to get a phone out there rather than taking time to actually upgrade the phone properly, maybe this is due to all the unrest in the Sony mobile camp!
The question is, does the screen have the oleophobic coats on the screen itself, under the pre-installed screen protector..?
UPDATE: Found out, The answer is.. YES!

RAW / DNG support ?

Hello, im surprise that international CM12.1 version do not have RAW/DNG support as OnePlus One did have.
Anybody knows if zuk z1 will have this function ?
It doesn't have 4k recording either.. CM keeps adding new stuff to their hardware, the OPO didn't have RAW support at first and was added when Lollipop came if I remember well. They may include it later but who knows
Yes, two weeks with that phone and realize its just cyanogen marketing.
Its not a phone for me. Cyanogen lacks of constistancy, why dng support with opo and not with z1, its strange since it is the same hardware.
Why a fingerprint with nom NFC ?
The update to marshmallow will be in 6 month, if there is.
I m going to sell it and go to nexus 5 (dng and update, but poor battery), innos d6000 (gorgeous battery, great camera with large pixel, think pour update) or honor 7.
Guys pls download the Paid version of camera Fv-5 and check whether it supports raw imaging on zuk z1... Post your results here guys ...

i wonder if they will add raw support?

Oneplus camera on the Le Pro 3 x720?

I am planning to buy the Le Pro 3 x720 and customise it to have a oneplus 3 experience.
The LEx720 and OP3 has the same camera sensor and almost same processor (snapdragon 821 for LEx720 & snapdragon 820 for OP3)
kimovilDOTcom/en/compare/leeco-le-pro-3-6gb-64gb,oneplus-3-6gb-64gb-cn
Yet the x720 camera reviews are less positive in comparison to the OP3. I guess its the processing.
1. So has someone ever tried the Oneplus camera on the LEx720?
apkmirrorDOTcom/apk/oneplus-ltd/oneplus-camera/
2. Is it possible to have some samples comparison please, especially against the google camera?
My alternative choice would be the Meizu M6 Note which boasts the same camera as the HTC U11 and it's working pretty great with its Arcsoft algorithm.
3. Based solely on camera, can the LEx720 deliver a better image quality than the Meizu M6 Note?
I would really appreciate your views.
Thank you all in advance.
I wouldn't say you're guaranteed to get a Sony sensor. Some people here are reporting that their camera isn't working on custom ROMs like Paranoid Android--which means that they have a different camera sensor (I believe custom ROMs for the Pro3 variants are built with Sony drivers, but IDK). The OnePlus 3 camera is miles better than the Pro3 camera simply because OnePlus bothers to put good camera software on their phones. Not iPhone-quality, but definitely up there. When it comes to cameras, software is a lot more important, IMO. That's why the iPhone 6's camera quality holds up today, even though the phone was released in 2014. Name a single Android phone from 2014 with good camera quality today...
You are not guaranteed good camera quality from Chinese phones. Some Chinese brands claim to make this a priority, but reviews don't lie. Now, Camera2 API may improve quality, but it really depends. Camera2 API has done wonders for variants of the Xiaomi Note 4 stuck with the inferior Omnivision sensor. It's done even more for variants with Sony and Samsung sensors. And I expect it does well for the Pro3 too, since the Pro3 has a chipset with good image processing. Do your research. Look around the forum and search for camera mods. See if you like the results or not. Camera2 API requires you to root your phone.
Sorry, but if you want a flagship-worthy camera experience, you either buy an iPhone 7, 8, or X, a Samsung S8 or Note 8, an OP3T or OP5, or a Pixel phone. Pixel phones have the best smartphone cameras in the market right now, especially the Pixel 2, since it has dedicated hardware for it. I can't think of any other phones that take excellent images no matter where you are or what you're doing. With other brands you'll have to either a) make sure there's enough lighting, b) be in the right place at the right time, or c) do a lot of manual post-processing, which ruins image quality.
I'm okay with my x722's image quality. It takes good shots in sunlight. Low-light performance is awful. Pretty typical experience. I don't know which sensor I have, though. I'd have to be rooted to find that out.
The Meizu M6 Note has a better sensor. Even if its camera software is awful, it's bound to be better. LeEco doesn't even try with its camera app, so Meizu has to be better.

Different camera sensor? Has there been a case? Doing so would be nightmare for device maintenance and unless it is a large scale company with a model that gets sold huge quantities (Samsung and Apple), it would just be a unnecessary headache without any benefit. Camera not working on certain custom roms does not indicate different sensor. Far from it. A missing or extra line on device tree or even in build.prop would cause it.
It is true that camera sucks on most of Chinese phones. They've got the hardware but unless you're shooting RAW, end result will be very poor.
However, that was the case before Google HDR+ port. That port makes dramatic different. No reason to use OnePlus camera when OnePlus users are rooting for Google HDR+.

Is that so? Sorry, I didn't know that. I thought it strange that the camera would work on ROMs installed on some devices but not others.

Yeah, Gcam changed everything. Now phones with the worst sensors get decent shots, even at night.
