Unable to load Custom rom due to hltecan - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Very frustrated!
I currently have a SM-N900w8 note 3 (canada) on android 5.0 that I am trying to install CM14 on.
I have TWRP 3.1.0-0 installed.
Whenever i try to flash the rom I get an error saying "this package is for hltexx...; this device is hltecan"
then gives me error: 7
What am I missing here?? There doesnt seem to be any CM or lineage file for hltecan.
Anyone else have same problems and has resolved?
Thanks

Many devs uses "assert" function in updater-script file located in "/META-INF/com/google/android" in rom zip.
You can unpack the zip, edit this file to remove the whole function or to add your device model then repack and flash.

Yeah, he's going to do exactly that.

Logic says you start by reading the custom roms instructions .
If your model is supported only then can you flash that rom .

Thanks for the insight. We cannot all be blessed by this higher level of logic you possess.
All the roms I've checked dont seem to have hltecan model explicitly stated as compatible.
I can't imagine my canadian version is so rare that there is no support. I would think there would be a method to flash the hlte version and then update my modem?

Go into settings<about device and check for model number, it should be SM-N910C, that is the International Exynos version. If model number is SM-N910F, then it is the International Snapdragon version. Once you've confirmed your model goto their respective development threads and look for any ROM that has your model number attached in the topic title.
Hi,
It is N-910F i did checked that and tried download roms for this version from Zedomax website but when i tried to flash it in TWRP it says that rom is trltexx and my phone got trlte
and thats point where everything stops. Am i still dowloading wrong roms? or?

Why are you downloading ROMs from Zedomax's website when there is a development section for snapdragon based note 4's right here? Download from the aforementioned thread and ask Questions there, where it will be easier to find a solution to your problem
Probably you have the wrong version of TWRP. Just flash via odin the right recovery..
If your Note4 is the N910F download "twrp-2.8.7.0-trltexx.img.tar" from this page, launch odin, put the downloaded .img.tar file in the AP/PDA button, reboot your phone in download mode, connect it to the pc via usb cable, let it be recognized from odin, click start and let it flash the recovery.
Now you'll be able to flash the right ROMs for your N910F.
Thank you guys it was wrong version of TWRP after flashing from your link i was able flash RR straight away THX
Thank you! I had the same problem, my mistake for not coming to the right place first.

Need Guidance...

Hey guys,
I'm going to install a custom ROM today to see if that maybe fixes my SensorHub not working. I just need guidance on the correct procedure. I have a SM-N900 model (N900XXUEBOL2) running Lollipop 5.0. Do I first need to root, or can I install a custom ROM straight from the stock recovery? It seems like there aren't may ROMS available for the SM-900 model, but I've found one that seems to have good battery life and performance: TR-ROM. This is the procedure I will follow:
1) Root phone with CF-Auto-Root-ha3g-ha3gxx-smn900.zip
2) Use ODIN to flash n900-cwm-recovery-6.0.5.0-kk_L5.0(0812).tar
3) Flash TR-ROM from CWM: TR-ROM XDA
Is this all correct? I just want to make sure that I don't brick my phone!
Also, how can I revert back to stock if I need to?
Thanks so much!!!

OK. ..so are the 3 steps I mentioned above correct?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/general/guide-root-note-3-sm-n900-5-0-install-t3069670
I'm trying to follow that guide, but the build number of N900 on the CF-Root site says:
LRX21V.N900XXUEBOA6
Whereas mine is:
N900XXUEBOL2
Will is still work? Also, it says a locked bootloader will probably brick your device. How do I check if mine is locked?
I've rooted and installed custom roms on many devices before - I'm not sure why rooting and installing custom rom on the Note 3 is so daunting...

I wouldn't be asking here if I hadn't already Google'd extensively.
But of course... The phone is brand new, so there's no info yet available. I understand...
Yes, do as you wrote in the first post. Should be ok, as those are the latest files.
Sent from my Note 3 running Purify CM13
I'm finding that there is actually TOO much information (too many variables). That's why I'm asking specifically about my version, as I can't seem to get my head around it - and rather than brick my phone, I'm merely seeking a bit of guidance from someone more experienced than me. In the past, when I was rooting previous phones, I received a lot of useful information and help from XDA - but it seems like now all I'm getting are sarcastic remarks and general unfriendliness. Why is that?
You have N900 its an exynos model not the qualcom .Not something that has a big following on here .
The links in your post point to zips , whats the point of me downloading a zip ??
CF autoroot you need to read the instructions regarding builds .
Locked boot loader no idea for that model .
CWM yes flash via Odin if its the correct one for your model .
Flash rom yes the rom will give you the method .

From what i understand omega v20 does not support 900I. It also uses phoenix kernel which I have heard has compatibility issues with 900I. Try Omega V18 (lolipop) or if you want a marshmallow based rom, try something else. Remember that these posts were posted years ago and that last year's "latest TWRP" is not THE latest TWRP.
you may want to flash original firmware via sammoblie to get you out of this predicament first.
edit. also post on a more appropriate thread next time. or else no one is going to find ur question

Note 3 can't get SIM to detect unless flashing stock ROM (various bootloader/modems)

Hi there,
I've been struggling with an Note 3 that for some unknown reason doesn't detected the SIM card unless it's flashed with the stock ROM. The stock ROM doesn't include the bootloader/modem and contains only the OS. I've been asking around on the baseband thread[0] about this but I think this is a broader issue as I can get the phone to work (including SIM detection) with custom bootloader/modem.
Below the steps I've taken so far:
Step 01: Recently I acquired a Note 3 and installed LineageOS 14.1 on it.
Step 02: I noticed that the SIM was not detected by LineageOS and read up on this topic via the usual channels (e.g. reddit, xda forums, LineageOS JIRA). Based on the information I gathered I tested various bootloader/modem settings, especially those other reported as working, but couldn't get LineageOS to detect the SIM with any of these. This is where I signed up to this forum and created my first post describing the situation thus far. [1]
Step 03: After the feedback on this thread I confirmed that the bootloader/modem were flashed correctly. To eliminate any other causes of the firmware being broken by redoing most of the tests with Odin (I've mainly used Heimdall up till that point). Still LineageOS didn't detect my SIM even with combinations that worked for others. [2]
Step 04: To exclude it was an issue specific to LineageOS I installed ~10 other custom ROMS from different groups and using different versions of Android. In all of these the SIM was still not detected. [3]
Step 05: After installing the stock ROM (without the matching bootloader/modem) the Note 3 was suddenly detecting the SIM and I was able to make phone calls. [4]
Step 06: I expressed my confusion about the earlier not working bootloader/modem not working with the other ROMs but that those did work with the stock ROM. [5]
This is where we are now. I don't fully grasp why the stock ROM (which doesn't include bootloader/modem) does detect my SIM whilst all the other custom ROMs don't although they're having the same bootloader/modem binaries that should make it work.
Anyone has experienced this before as well or know what might be the issue?
Thanks!
.san

Where are your getting the stock ROM? As far as I know, roms on sammobile.com, updato.com, and samsung-firmware.org all contain a bootloader and modem with the exception of some 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 ROMs.

I've grabbed them via a page on the ROMs section of this subforum (second link): https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72540914&postcount=4340
Direct ROM download link: https://mega.nz/#!VU13SY5J!GrYB2Wqbo7DNs_Bbg8trkUcftaeES8jfgWMqXepv2cw
[EDIT] Perhaps I'm wrong and this ROM does include the modem and bootloader. In that can I can perhaps (don't know how) extract the modem/bootloader from that and combine it with a custom ROM. But if it doesn't contain these binaries than I'm clueless on what makes the stock ROM detect the SIM where other ROMs don't.

Och that is sloppy... not sure why I found that in the Note 3 ROMs section but I should have double checked. Its still weird that that specific ROM does work with the pre-flashed modem/bootloader whist other ROMs don't, right?
I think I have a complete firmware package (that requires Odin/Heimdall) from sammobile somewhere. I'll double check that one.

That is what I tried to explain in the OP. These bootloader/modem combinations ONLY work with the stock ROM I linked to.
As I said its not a Note 3 stock rom.
Its a custom /ported rom.
Stock sammobile. Updato.com etc

That is not a stock ROM, it is custom ROM that doesn't contain a bootloader or modem. You need to flash the latest stock ROM from sammobile.com or updato.com.
I did a quick test with a full stock firmware package from sammobile. Also with this package I get the SIM card detected. The moment I flash, using TWRP, another ROM (just tested a recent LineageOS 14.1 nighty) the SIM card is no longer detected. As far as I'm concerned this excludes the stock firmware from the pile of options and re-affirms my suspicion that it is something related to the ROMs themselves. The Samsung ROMs (either official or ported) do something different than any of the other ROMs... at least on this device.
Its your phone then thats the problem.

Just to confirm but flashing stock ROM, flashing twrp, and flashing a custom ROM gives you the sim problem?

yes. this is weird.
but on the other hand just to know.
did you try different sim's ? may be the issue is related to that particular sim card.
i too have note 3 N-9005. but i never faced this type of situation ever.
my current Bootloader (BL) is N9005XXUGBPH2
Baseband (CP) is N9005DXUGBOK3
Current Rom is AryaMod Note 7 Port 2.1
i have used Ressurection remix, C9 pro upto version 4, magma Nx, Los 14, Arya mod v.9 on this same BL and CP. and NO issues so far.
may be you can try once more with these same settings/files as mine.
1st Flash Stock Rom
2nd Check from Phone Info your current settings in the Firmware tab (backup it's apk now, so that you can install it later without logging in G-services.) screenshot attached. Download the SAME BL & CP and flash it via ODIN.
3rd if it's the same, then go ahead and use TWRP 2.8.7.0 (this version is what i use).
4th now flash any of these roms written above. start with RR as the Rom is lesser in size.
5th (optional) if you want to flash a different kernel too, but flash after rom if the kernel included does not work.
now tell us the results, if the issue is resolved or not.
ONE MORE THING.
this model N9005 does not have LTE Band 40 support so if your network only provide LTE on band 40 like mine does. LTE wont work. Only 2g or 3g will work. and stock rom's 1st option of network is 2g or 3g i think.
HI,
think I'm having the same problem here. Except for me the official 14.1 version is detecting my sim card. All other "unofficial versions" 15.1 &16 are not detecting my SIM card. Any workarounds ?
Ive had the issue to with even the touch wiz variants of arya mod and others I'm in the united states though and I have to do tmo variants of aosp. Im using a emmc brick bug unlocked note 3. I'm on vzw btw. Im worried to do a full flash because ive seen mixed things on doing a full Odin update on the emmc brick bug phones saying it reverses the unlock
