Hi all,
I am asking for a technically accurate directions - on how to completely / thoroughly / competently wipe a N9005 that has been compromised by malware (absolutely sure) - and bring it back to usable condition.
Obviously some will suggest factory reset (from the phone itself) - but it is conceivable that the reset/restore image file was infected/compromised too (as it is held on the device) - so I'd just end up restoring an image - that's already infected.
Anyway to get this done properly using my laptop?
Thanks to anybody willing to help.

Samsung Note 3: SM-N9005
Current Binary: Samsung official
System Status: Official
Andriod version: 5.0

Reactivation Lock: Off
Knox Warranty Void: 0x0
Qualcomm secure boot: Enable (CSB)

If you flash a stock rom you will repace the image.

Hi JJEgan,
Cheers for replying.
Analogy PC's hardisks - secure erase - then re-flash the software on the controller - from a boot CD (external source).
Is there any way to thoroughly blank the phone - then reinstall OS/relevant-software using an external source e.g laptop?
Ultimately - I need the device back to an UN-Compromised status.

Backup contacts, photos, music, etc. Remove SD Card (if present) and format it from PC, factory reset from phone (in Settings), download new firmware from Sammobile, flash it, then go into recovery and do a factory reset. The alternative, if you don't care about KNOX (which you should not, voided my warranty 2 weeks after I purchased my phone, and that was in December 2013, I didn't have to fix a thing on my phone, nothing broke) is to flash a custom recovery, like TWRP and wipe internal/external SD card. Back up your photos/music,contacts,etc. before this. You should now have a clean, fresh phone.

Thank you for replying,
Really appreciated.
If there are any additional suggestions to what GamingDj has said above - any other ideas / aspects that are worth mentioning - I am open to exploring and hearing about them.

flashing official firmware and factory reset your device from recovery should eliminate any threats.
I would first root and flash TWRP to completely wipe every partition available (after you backup your device, of course)
After that, enter download mode and flash stock with Odin, which should completely flash your recovery, system, etc to stock.
Should be completely clean from there on out.

I bought my S4 (GT-I9505) today and I have some problems with it. My phone gets some random freezes and reboots every 5-15 minutes. It works smooth but sometimes crashes make me mad. Hard reset didn't help. I tried to look into warranty card, but it says that warranty is void because of custom software.
Can you tell me how to check if previous user did something to software?
And if it possible, can I go back to orginal official software to fix random reboots.
I got some details from PHONE and DOWNLOAD MODE

Your Knox warranty void counter shows 0×1 that means custom stuff was flashed on phone. Now as your warranty is void u can try custom roms or flash latest official stock firmware.

ok, i flashed latest official firmware by odin. I still have random freezes and reboots.
Is there any chance to fix that via software or it's just hardware problem?

Try to reboot into recovery and do a wipecache/Factory reset , if still rebooting do a factory reset/wipe cache once done pull your battery and put it back after 10 sec and Hold and press Power+VolumeDown inorder to boot into download mode and reflash the stock rom once again, if the problem still persist might be something wrong with your phone and you might wanna check you battery if its swollen or something.
Hey all, so I tried to unroot my Note 3. Sadly I messed up and my phone is stuck on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 loading screen. I can go into ODIN mode and Recovery mode. I tried to wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition, but that didn't work, still doesn't load. I don't know what to do anymore. If it matters I was using Safestrap. If it helps this is what it says in ODIN MODE

I gave my note3 to a technician, there was a problem (It didn't boot, instead stuck on samsung logo with recovery booting). The technician did his best and the phone began to work. Then I used the phone once ( for 24 hours) and the same problem came back. I tried to flash it with official Rom lollipop 5.0, bootloader and CWM by Odin v3.09, but that was in vain.
I need your help please.
Waiting for your reply.
Take it back to your technician .
Suggestion is a hardware problem .

I did it before trying by myself to fix the problem, but not solution. If it's a hardware problem, may be I have to try with another technician. Thanks.
This is exactly the same problem I am having.
My phone is now working on stock Lollipop but I was stuck with this for a while.
I found that if i flashed the CWM .tar file with Odin it would reboot and work fine.
Once you get to that point, download a stock rom from Sammobile - I used 4.4.2 just to get it working.
When i had installed 4.4.2 everything appeared fine, i went ahead and booted into stock recovery and did a full reset.
I then let the phone update to stock 5.0 using the built in updater.
Im running it as it is (stock rom, un-rooted and stock recovery) until i can research enough into the problem and how to get around it.
In Odin mode on my phone, there is a "write protection - enabled" line also, which im guessing is causing my problem on not being able to get cwm/twrp to work
My aim was to Root, custom recovery and custom Rom but I hit the exact brick wall you posted in the OP
HELP......my son was messing around and some how deleted the entire internal storage of his phone.....I`ve tried flashing a custom rom and stock rom with odin but fails every time.....it does have twrp3 installed and the phone can go into download mode.
Is there any way of getting the operating system back on to the phone ..... and no there is no nandroid backup

need more information than that.
ok..
have you installed stock rom via ODIN from fresh ? or just trying to recover what is installed on the phone ?
if NOT odin then you need to flash stock rom again via odin and test again.
if YES then may be, may be it is hardware related (last option to consider).
BUT you need to do the steps above. then we can only reach on a proper solution.

probably a corrupted partition due to some error.
try getting a .PIT file for N9005,
and flash it via odin along with stock rom.
1. search google -- there are various PIT files on SamMobile. Download the N9005 hlte BTU version.
2. here is another link for you
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2550823
and which version of rom are you trying flashing ?

change cables. (may be cable is somehow not working properly.)
use updated ODIN version. ( you are using old version)
use this PIT file. this is TGY version. (Android 5.0)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67773525&postcount=16
after then flash stock firmware. (preferably TGY one.)
if nothing works even now... then your mmc chip is corrupted and need to be replaced. the chip only if you can or the whole motherboard.
there is no harm in trying anything now, to revive it. so just do everything. don't lose hope. may be it will work.

hmm..
that i don't know yet.
but in my opinion, if the emmc chip/motherboard is dead/corrupted/broken then it should not be detected by odin at all.
if it is being detected then it can be survived. but hey it is just an hypothesis.
imo the partition corruption chances are high like 85-95%. that can be repaired by available PIT file.
but i don't know any further than that.
and btw you didn't mentioned how it got corrupted ?
