I'll try to make this simple and clear. This is open to Verizon users as well since there was a way to unlock early on.
Please don't justify your answers, there are enough threads about that. This is just for numbers sake. Here we go..
My Pixel / XL is:
1. Bootloader locked
2. Bootloader unlocked, not rooted, stock rom
3. Bootloader unlocked, rooted, stock rom
4. Bootloader unlocked, rooted, custom rom
I'm going to leave kernels out of the mix here otherwise it will be too cumbersome. I understand that if you are unlocked and want Android Pay to work you will need a custom kernel but that's not the point of the poll. Also it doesn't really matter whether or not you have the oem switch enabled if you are locked although you should have it disabled if you are locked, at least temporarily.

Lol.. One problem with this poll thing is you can't vote with the XDA legacy app which is what I use. This is my first time doing this so maybe I did something wrong? Either way the results are interesting so far.
Much too low. If you see pure has 900 downloads for last marlin and there are so many other roms on other forums. So that poll says nothing until more than 500 participate2
Stock, locked.
Just too lazy to understand the slots thing, and satisfied with performance.
First device I have in years where I don't really feel a need to root.
But I do miss some things such as themes, adblock, customizations, wakelock blocks, etc. That's why I keep track of various ROM developments, being on the edge between wanting to root / stay stock.

When they poll the public for Congressional races they use relatively small samples and, other than this presidential race, they are pretty accurate. If there are 100k constituents they do not need to get replies from 50k. They use perhaps a hundred or so.
Besides this is a fun poll to see a snapshot of users preferences. No one is designing policy based on it.

At least I'm not the only person that's unlocked, nonroot, custom ROM. Another vote for the imaginary #5.

For this poll you could probably put it under #4. It's close enough.

So basically about 70% of the users here (at least so far in this unscientific poll) are using stock rom whether locked, unlocked, rooted, or unrooted. That seems to be rather high for a Google device but not surprising. I believe there are many reasons for this, one of which is that stock rom is excellent. Maybe another poll, but not by me since I'm sure I've worn out my polling welcome, which would ask why are you on stock rom if you have the opportunity to change it. This would obviously leave out those on Verizon that have the bootloader locked with no means to change that.

I was interested, after reading the thread "are you satisfied with your TF300?" to see just the proportion of owners that unlocked their bootloader, as this could have implications with the speed of development. I also noticed how many users said they were not satisfied when their tablet was stock, but became more satisfied when it was running a custom ROM. It seems to me that some people are unsatisfied with the stock ROM, but don't wish to unlock the bootloader and void the warranty meaning they wont be able to send it back should there be a problem, or sell it on for maximum retail value.
Please choose one of the options above, thanks! (It would also be interesting to post your thoughts on how this affected your satisfaction with the tablet)

I have unlocked and installed the Hydro ROM (see the development section) . It is smoother for sure, no browserlag any more.
First I made sure to have root, so that I could backup my current applications and their settings with Titanium backup. Then I installed TWRM, the modern equivalent of Clock Work Mod, to backup the stock ROM. By taking these precautions the riscs of creating a mess are fairly reduced.
I also used the stock ROM for approximately 6 weeks, to be sure that the hardware was alright and that the chances of needing Asus support in the coming year were small.
Unlocked and rooted the day I got the tablet. Been happily running Hydro since its release.
Still locked bootloader here but rooted off course. I'm waiting for official jellybean
If you are completely satisfied with your device, then don't tinker with it by rooting and unlocking. However, if you unlock the device and install a custom recovery, then it becomes very difficult to brick the tf300. You can almost always come back to a working stock official rom with a custom recovery by simply flashing the software directly downloaded from the ASUS website. I have no regrets about unlocking my bootloader.

still on latest stock rom. since there will be an update to 4.1.1 i will not root or unlock (the bootloader) of the device. my girlfriend uses the tablet more intensively than me. rooting the device might cause a drop the WAF.
but i am planning to unlock/root as soon as asus stops developing for 300T.

Locked & rooted. Keeping warranty.
Still Charged Up
I am unlocked and have used clean rom, hydro 4.3, cm9, skank for ics, aokp for ics, aokp for jb, cm10 and am currently running skank for jb. For me personally, my tab has run the fastest & smoothest with the custom roms w/ little, if any lag at all. With the new TWRP doing /boot backups as well as external sd support, it is so easy now to try all the roms and find one you like.
I'm not unlocked. Like some, I'm waiting for the 4.1 update to see what I think of it. I find it runs slower than my phone for some functions like updating apps, so I'm leaning to unlocking for a faster rom.
Mine is unlocked & rooted. And yet, I didn't found a rom that would satisfy me - just the stock one But maybe I will try the Clean ROM.
Yes! Is the best that I do
Unlocked, rooted. Btw, rooting doesn't affect otas.
Oh, and I'm waiting for warranty to be almost up, then get it fixed. I have a dead pixel. Lol in know, finicky but still lol

Not unlocked or rooted. Waiting on JB. The stock ROM may have issues but custom ROMs just introduce others.
I have unlocked my TF300G bootloader using ASUS Unlocker V.7 and also root it with CWM as my recovery. I'm still on TW .40 official ROM but I have tweaked the build.prop a little bit.
I just got my Nexus 10 and haven't even turned it on yet. Giving it a nice charge.
So what's the first steps?
With my Galaxy Nexus, the very first thing I did was unlock the bootloader because anyway it wipes the device. Then I rooted it. And then I went along my jolly way. Eventually, months down the line, I installed Bugless Beast.
So what about this tablet? Turn on and unlock bootloader then root? Or do I want to get an OTA first in case it's on 4.2 and needs 4.2.1?
Anything else someone new to the Nexus 10 should know about?
By the way, I choose stability over experimental features. Hence, Bugless Beast on my GNex instead of some of the more feature-filled (but less stable) ROMs.
Thanks for you help!
turn it on --> get your update(s) to 4.2.1 --> unlock bootloader --> root --> install adaway and just leave it. the stock rom is great but i can't live without an adblocker. otherwise just give the developers time, as i said before, the stock rom is great

I hope we reach the point where ROMs are more stable and less experimental for the Nexus 10.
@jjdevega, Since I like to compartmentalize my tools (I already have a favorite ad blocker, file explorer, titanium backup, etc), ROM toolbox is less useful for me. Thanks for the suggestion though.
I'd recommend just keeping the bootloader unlocked
I like my device to either be completely stock, or custom. Leaving the bootloader unlocked on a stock, non-rooted ROM bothered me quite a bit lol (not sure why; I mean I know leaving the bootloader unlocked doesn't really do anything, but still...), and I would go between custom ROM's and stock a lot, locking and unlocking the bootloader each time too.
Yea, I was planning on leaving it unlocked. Unless I need to return the tablet for warranty purposes, there's no reason to re-lock the bootloader.
Well, actually there are security implications regarding unlocked bootloaders. That's actually why unlocking wipes your device, so that an outsider can't bypass security by unlocking the bootloader and then getting whatever information he/she wants.

Well root is not permanent yet, but it just means we have to wait a while longer for a rooting method/package to be released. Good news all around. Now to unlock that SOB of a bootloader....

Yeah, I'm aware. And Moto includes a mean bootloader on their hardware. Custom ROMers are likely to have to get going on 2nd Init if they want any chance of seeing something custom on this bad boy
BTW @Indirect Thanks for your work on getting root. Much appreciated.
Honestly I'm not so concerned with the bootloader. Root will be nice just to do some minor tweaks. But I (and maybe it's just me) have no interest in flashing custom software. It's already very stock-like, and I wouldn't want to lose the features the X brings with something like CM or AOKP.
A custom recovery would be nice for backup purposes, but we have an FXZ, do we not? I know the Droids do... If we have an FXZ, I'm not too worried about even having a custom recovery. In other words, I'd be perfectly happy with root access without the unlocked BL.
I'm thinking about selling my s4 for a vzw Moto x now that we can root it but I'm not sure that's enough for me if it can't be rom'd. I have cm10.2 on my s4 and love being able to have the newest version of android but more than that I like the customization cm brings, like swiping from the top right shows my quick toggles, and I have the toggles customized just how I like. I'm not sure I'm ready to lose features like that. But I like the size of the x so much better than the s4.
Even without an unlocked bootloader, it will still likely be able to be so custom roms. It'll probably just rely on something like safestrap or bootstrap which have been used on other Moto phones with locked bootloaders. We've got some awesome devs that can do some amazing things.

Do custom roms mean losing the touchless control (using dedicated core) and active display abilities? I didn't think about losing those features in a custom rom, I really love them. Are they possible to port over to a custom rom?

Custom Roms built from a factory image(my favorite) will have all the moto x features unless the Dev intentionally breaks them. I plan to build using this method. I never released my ROM for the S3 since scrosler had such a great debloat ROM out.

Looking forward to rooting my Moto X. Personally, I want to stick to the stock rom. It is nearly perfect. However, I do want to see the bootloader cracked because when 4.3 comes to our phone we are likely to lose root without a way of getting it back without a custom recovery.

Im looking to leave Sprint for greener pastures. I'm on their Note 2 at the moment and figure I'll go with the Note 3 if/when I switch carriers. I was reading to make sure that the Verizon Note 3 would be rootable. As it stands, I'm very confused as to whether or not this device is able to be rooted. I'm an avid root user. I don't want to be stuck with a phone that I cannot root and control. I keep reading conflicting threads saying the phone can be rooted or can't be rooted. At this point, I would like to make the carrier switch within the next week, so I just need a definite "yes" or "no" as far as rooting.

Ok. that makes sense now. with sprint AOSP roms were horrible with data so I usually avoided them. although decks reloaded was awesome on the Evo 4G.
what are the chances that we'll be able to unlock the bootloader? Im hoping the switch to verizon will greatly improve my data quality then maybe an AOSP rom will be an option.

The Note 4 Developer Edition or the regular Note 4?
The Developer edition is the same as the regular with the exception of open boot loader allowing custom ROMs to be installed and extensive UI customization
Definitely getting the developer edition. Not concerned with custom kernels or roms, but having an unlocked bootloader is a much clearly path to root access. All I want to do, can be done with Xposed modules.

With Android L security, I would only consider a Dev N4 at this point. It is unlocked and will be easy to root. Flash TWRP recovery in Odin, boot into TWRP recovery from a powered off state, then flash Chainfires SuperSU.zip. From there it is game on...adaway, tibu, xposed modules, and I can pretty much create my own TW rom from that point.

The big question is whether any devs will be able to make lollipop roms possible for the note 4 dev.
The apparent lack of Root possibility on the retail VZ Note 4 had me resigned to keeping my N3 (which isn't the worst thing). But IF we can actually buy the Dev Edition of the N4 anytime soon, and IF the Dev Edition is as easy to root as purported, then yes, I will buy the Dev Edition ASAP. I do want to see other peoples experiences with the Dev Edition before I throw down near $700 for it however. I am not overly excited for Lollipop, so a good, unlocked, rooted and user (myself) tweaked stock kitkat ROM will be just fine for me for quite some time. If Lollipop is available, rootable and worth the upgrade, then I will upgrade to it. I always disable/freeze the OTA apk on my phones so I can see what bugs/problems a new factory ROM presents before taking it. My N3 was on the original stock JB ROM until just recently when I upgraded to the latest kitkat, and I can honestly say I preferred the kitkat rom. No going back now though.
Long story short, the Dev edition will likely be my only N4 if I do get the N4.
I was going to get the dev version, but paid $60 total for the retail model verses over $600 more for the dev version.
