Dear all
My Nexus 6p was hard bricked yesterday and keep bootloop. I did flash twrp and a stock image by adb but the phone still could not turn on.
I try to use the hair dryer to heat my phone like this way (youtube.com/watch?v=fVghgGWoWa4) (sorry that I am a new user and I cant post the link)
And then my phone can be booted into the system but all of my data lost since I did flash the stock rom.
So may I ask that is there any way for me to recover back my data in this case? ( especially app data and my photo since there are some extremely important data for me......)

Hello,
How did you flash a stock ROM with ADB? adb sideload? Full OTA? Shouldn't have wiped internal storage.
Or you flashed a factory image from bootloader with flash-all script? Or fastboot flash?
If you used flash-all or you fastboot flashed userdata.img, i think your datas are lost.

Hello,
You should likely have thought about it before flashing a factory image...
Maybe there are professional forensic tools that could work. But unfortunately i don't know their names or where to find them.

I flashed the image because i thought there is no any other way to boot my phone....
I have never thought that I can save it with a hair dryer I brought my phone to the mobile fixing shop and they did say the phone could not be fixed therefore i just flashed the image and try.

Looks like fail to flash a ROM because forgot to unlocked bootloader or wipe data in recovery mode, while the ROM you flashed is a stock one, no a custom one. If you have unlocked bootloader, you can see a lock appear in the boot screen.
You can go to the recovery mode and try to fix your brick phone by wipe data and cache partition, maybe you can boot you phone successfully after doing these.
You data is not really gone, in fact, you can recover the data by using some tool.

This tool seems designed for a phone that bootloop. Not a device which userdata partition has been wiped and overwritten afaik...

I know it's too late.
I normally edit the flash_all to *NOT* wipe the phone and only do an update.
You can have your photos if Google sync is on, but your App data is gone.
Yeah the flash-all script includes a -w wipe command. You could of removed it before flashing to keep data. But after that it's bye bye baby. The only way is probably some type of software forensics tool. But keep searching cause I don't everything and maybe you can tell the FBI there info on it about terrorist and they can brute force in. Then you got your pics back.

I woke up this morning and in a daze decided to flash beanstalk6.17. For what ever reason it seemed to have made apps disappear and was lagging out my 6p. I was rushing out the door and in a state of panick I flash purenexus back on. This caused constant booklooping. I restored from a nandroid backup from earlier today but now I can pulldown my settings from the top and constantly have "Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stoppped. I reset all apps and it stopped for a while but as soon as I went into any app it began again.
Any help will be appreciated.
Clear the cache for Contacts and Contacts Storage. That should do it.

Cleared contact cache and still get the notification when I open phone or messages. Also cant slide down to view my quick settings.
Have you tried doing a full wipe, and fresh install of a ROM?

Did you clean flash? Sounds to me like you didn't wipe properly.
Okay so I managed to resolve the issue but now have created a even greater one. I needed to update my vendor image and when installing I accidentaly chose boot image. Now my 6p boots straight to recovery and my twrp data is encrypted and it wont accept my unlock code so I cant access my data to recover. I have a copy of a backup on my pc if that helps. Any guidance would be apprieciated.

Taking a guess, but I think you need to flash proper Vendor img. Can you adb reboot bootloader while phone is in TWRP? If so then at boot loader, reflash the vendor.img.

You'll need to flash the correct boot.img back to the device.
EDIT: Unless I'm misunderstanding you. Did you flash the boot.img to the vendor partition or flash the vendor.img to the boot partition?

I flashed the vendor.img to the boot partition.
Edit: Going to attempt flashing the boot.img now

Hi, I keep seeing that some people brick their phones due to the changes in the process. Question, Due to some battery drainage I am getting, I am trying to do a phone reset.
I currently have TWRP installed and rooted the phone using the jccuando method. What is the best way to reset the phone to factory so I can re-root again and do what I need to do without bricking? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Definitely boot to twrp via hardware keys or a boot to recovery app.. Do not do it from the settings menu. It will put you into twrp bootloop until you boot from the hard keys anyway. Just remember to flash supersu after you factory reset before you boot or you'll have to boot back into twrp again and flash it.

Thank you so much. So I see I can get to twrp no problem. What to do inside twrp before I bootloop or do I need to reset factory before I get to twrp? Then what to do after I am in a bootloop ?

If you used the method I told you there should be no bootloop. Just got to the section wipe and slide the slider for a factory reset. Then afterwards press back and go to your external sd and flash supersu again then reboot it will reboot twice after you flash supersu so don't worry.

Thank you. I actuallt just got done. I did factory reset instead and booted up fine. I took your advice and flashed supersu after the factory reset and i am all good now. I wonder the difference between factory reset and the format data. I was a little scared to factory reset so it woud not erase the rom.

Format data erases all user data. Factory reset erases all but internal storage. So data format is more extensive.

Hi, did everything with no problem. I got another question and not sure if you have the answer. I was hoping to re-lock the bootloader again. Do you know of a way to do that and get the phone to boot up to the system? I am trying to avoid the bootloader reboot message after turning on the phone! Thank you for all your help!

Do not relock unless you're pure stock no twrp or modded boot img. The annoying message will always be there.

Absolutely do not re-lock your bootloader unless you are 100% stock. If you brick the phone with a locked bootloader, you are screwed.
I dropped my 6p and now have no screen and no touch.
The device is rooted on stock 7.1.1 with unlocked boot loader. and fingerprint scanner is working. I can answer the phone and make phone calls with Bluetooth and hear notification sounds but dark display and no touch.
I want to backup my data before sending it to repair. So far I was only able to adb pull the SD card. I cannot use adb backup because it requires the confirmation on the phone. any suggestion how I can backup the data without any touch access on the phone?
Also, if I go to bootlaoder and flash the entire stock there, all my data is erased right? what happens to fingerprint data stored on the device? If I relock the bootloader, will it do a factory reset? in another word what is the best way to do a factory reset and erase everything without access to phone screen and touch?
Any help is really appreciated.

If you do a clean flash of the factory image all of your data is erased including your fingerprints. You shouldn't lock the bootloader before flashing the factory image. If you aren't fully stock including recovery and lock the bootloader you could brick the phone. There isn't really a need to lock the bootloader before sending it for repair.

Thanks. I just did a backup in TWRP using adb.
If I receive another refurb 6p instead of what I send, Can I restore this backup to a new phone or something will not work because the data partition is encrypted?
Should I do a wipe data and system in TWRP before going to bootloader and flashing the factory image?

I'm pretty sure you can't restore the backup from one phone to a different phone even if it's the same model. Maybe somebody knows a way to do it. You don't really need to wipe anything in TWRP if you are going to do a clean install of the factory image. The install will wipe everything.
If you have Usb debugging enabled you could also use Hisuite by Huawei. Do a google search for it as I can't post a link due to new account.
I used Flashfire to flash a radio.img without checking flash bootloader.
I can get into the bootloader and twrp.
When wiping the device and flashing another rom or restoring a backup my 6p does not get passed the custom rom splash screen.
I was thinking of trying to fastboot flash system/data/cache of the March update and see if it boots.
I know I messed up. don't even know if it was because I didn't check the bootloader option in Flashfire. Just my guess because everything was working fine beforehand.
Any help or ideas would be welcome.

Hey... You said you wiped your device? What did you wipe in TWRP?
Try to install a ROM from TWRP. Once it's over go in wipe and do a factory reset. Reboot. It should likely fix your issue.

Yeah, I wiped data, system, cache. Just the standard - I still have internal storage intact.
Its just strange, I've used Flashfire before but not for flashing a radio and it worked out fine.
I am on 3.79 and used Flashfire to flash 3.78. Went to the bootloader just to check and it still shows 3.79. Just my fault . I didn't check flash bootloader in the Flashfire settings. Atleast that's what I am guessing. Things were just fine before

Well, if nothing work, maybe backup your internal storage and flash a factory image... Then in recovery do a factory reset afterward. Who knows. Going back to stock shouldn't hurt anyway.

I've used FF to flash only radio files to the modem partition many times without issue. You untick all but modem, and you untick inject SU and preserve recovery. Not sure what went wrong for you. As mentioned , you should be able to manually flash stock and if you're careful, you'll still have your data. All your settings will be reset, but the userdata will be there. You can even use flash-all.bat, but open it in a text editor and remove the "-w" flag so it will not wipe your userdata. The Google page where you get the full factory image will have instructions.

Thanks. It was obviously my fault somehow.
I do remember there being only one option to tick.
Using fastboot back to stock did the trick and made me realize maybe I should hold off on using Flashfire for a bit.

Nah, FF is awesome and a major time-saver. Just read up on the documentation here and become familiar with it.
hey guys, i really need your help urgently.
i just finished setting up my OP8Pro to my needs and then i restored wifi networks from my Titanium Backup from Android 8, i booted and it won't boot anymore.
i get a FATAL EXCEPTION IN SYSTEM PROCESS: WifiHandlerThread...
so now i need to reset these settings via stock recovery and i already modified my recovery to enable ADB but i can't access /data
anyone has a hint for me how to access /data and where to find the wifi config on Android 11?
it's not stored in /data/misc/wifi anymore :/

You can reset WiFi within WiFi settings in settings.
But I would probably just clear data on the app you restored either in settings/apps or simply via titanium.
If it still fails then boot to recovery and wipe system.
Your storage will remain unaffected.
You could also try safe mode, power off and hold vol up and down as soon as you see the bootloader warning
Fyi I wouldn't bother restoring WiFi passwords like that, there's other ways of doing it.
Google can back these up for you for example, there are apps which can do it like swift (I think can do it)

You'd have to grab one of the fastboot ROMs then flash.
Why can't you open recovery? Isn't your pin / password being accepted?
If it's not and fastboot installation can't be done then honestly I'd just MSM your current firmware..it's easier than fastboot tbh.

my bootloader is already unlocked and i was rooted on 11.0.0... i can boot into fastboot and recovery but i'm not prompted my unlock pattern.
this was working before testing adb integrated recovery and restoring stock recovery...

I'm saying that if you use the MSM tool it will lock your bootloader so you'll need to unlock it again.
In regards to your recovery if you can get to it then choose English, then wipe, then system, then wipe system.
That will get you back like I said in my previous post.
If it's not asking for your pin/password (there is no pattern)
Then you're fine
I've not used that recovery but I don't see a point in using it

sorry i haven't used MSM yet so i didn't know it'll relock the bootloader but i'm more familiar with fastboot flashing so i'd like to stick with that also because i read of problems with the fingerprint reader when relocking the bootloader.
i thought i could delete reset the faulty wifi config via adb by using the adb-enabled stock recovery but i wasn't able to mount /data with it since it's encrypted and it's not asking for my pattern to decrypt it.
neither the stock recovery is asking for it now...
i don't want to lose my data hence i'm looking for a way to get it back running without completely reinstalling.
do you think it could work by only flashing system partition via fastboot?

I think you've certainly got a shot at it and what's the worst that can happen?
Did you actually try to wipe system in recovery? That would be my way to go.
MSM is extremely easy but I understand not wanting to lose storage.
That being said if you're correct about decryption then it won't matter anyway

well after trying lots of different things i ended up wiping system settings in stock recovery. atleast i didn't lose storage.

You're very welcome mate, I've done the same a few times..it's not that much of a loss really, a lot of apps pick up where they left off and if you do have titanium then your back ups are retained.
Glad you're sorted.
PS: this would have had the same effect that installing system would have had, only this time you get a clean slate
