hi guys i wonder if anyone has or know a way to install the smart select edge panel from S8 to the S7 edge?
I've read somewhere on xda that you'll also need to download the new AOD along with smart select apk, but personally I didn't have that issue nor do I understand why one would need the other to work...
But I downloaded the apk from apkmirrior, installed, then swiped open the edge panel tab, click the tiny settings gear once panel is open so you can enable/disable /download other edge tabs, and enabled smart select for one of your edge tabs. Viola
Sorry i tried to upload screenshots but xda network error...

I'm actually starting to run into the same issue with package conflict on certain apps trying to install from unknown sources.. I know that the options others have tried don't work.. As far as smart select goes, have you tried downloading the apk from XDA? Some are having success that way..
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7...galaxy-s7-edge-sm-g935f-t3584881/post71741190
Also there are many people having success with installing apks that run into package conflict, and it has to do with putting a shortcut of the apk on homescreen, turning off all security sign in features for lock screen so you can access your apk shortcut as fast as possible.. Then reboot your phone and as soon as you can, try to install the shortcut.. Also make sure to enable installation from unknown sources before reboot.
I haven't been able to get that to work for my conflicts, but lots of people have..
EDIT: I recently did an update from Verizon for the April security patch and whatever the bloatware they added and that's when I started running into conflicting packages

Without doing a factory reset, I honestly have no clue. There are so many mixed reports that say worked for their package conflicts, but the only way that continually is working is doing a backup and factory reset, then download and install the previous package conflicticted apks before going back through and backing up old apps/data.
I know it's a pain to do all that, and that's why I haven't gone through with doing a factory reset yet but I'm getting to that point if someone doesn't find out a solution soon..
I just tried to get smart select working .
So I installed the smart select apk, it installed successfully without any errors and it did show up as one of the default panel just like it should.
But when trying to use any of the smart select features on the panel my phone freezes for about 20 seconds.
The only option in smart select that works for me is "pin to top".
I am using a S7 edge rom, not a ported s8 rom.
Any suggestions?

Have you downloaded the latest optical Reader app from Samsung? I just came across this article that states you need the optical reader to make it work properly?
https://www.sammobile.com/2017/05/0...s-and-gifs-using-the-smart-select-edge-panel/
I tried all methods. None of them works
I'm our of options myself, I'm also in a position where I'm getting package conflicts but thankfully have been able to get some before I did my last update from Verizon, which is when I started getting package conflicts.. I wish you luck though and hopefully we can come up with something
Just wanted to quickly say that the apk from this link (found above):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7...e-sm-g935f-t3584881/post71741190#post71741190
works.
Using a non-rooted tmo S7E
Rectangle and Circle screenshot can be fixed by installing S8's AOD
I get conflicts with that apk too. But i appreciate your sharing.
Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
I received the same conflict. But I tried the following: create a new folder in root system/app , rename the new folder 'SmartClipEdgeService'. Then download the apk from http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsung-electronics-co-ltd/smart-select-2/smart-select-2-1-0-42-release/smart-select-1-0-42-android-apk-download/ , rename it 'SmartClipEdgeService.apk' and put it in the folder. Restart the device and you should be able to select it in the edge panel.
Unfortunately, I can't use the rectangle or oval either, the app just crashes when I try. If anyone knows how to fix this, it would be much appreciated!
I'm on G935F btw.
---------- Post added at 05:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:26 PM ----------
Update: Could get the rectangle and oval to work by downloading S8's AOD apk and replacing it in the root system/priv-app/AODService_v20 folder (also renaming the apk as 'AODService_v20.apk') BUT I lose AOD and I keep getting an error message saying AOD keeps stopping when I restart the phone as well as when I try to use the smart select features. The smart select hangs for abit but will work eventually.
Working on my end without freezing.

I have figured out a way to get the Smart Select Edge fully functional on the S7 Edge after some trial and error. You will need root. (I don't know if all the steps are necessary but that's just what I did.)
1. Create a new folder in root system/app , rename the new folder 'SmartClipEdgeService'. Then download the apk here , rename it 'SmartClipEdgeService.apk' and put it in the folder.
2. Download S8's AOD apk here and replace it in the root system/priv-app/AODService_v20 folder (also renaming the apk 'AODService_v20.apk'). Backup the original apk just in case,
3. Set the AOD apk permission to 0755 (rwx-rx-rx), folder permission should be the same.
4. Clear AOD cache and data (if you can't find it in applications, use titanium backup to 'open system details' and clear data, also use it to 'clear cache'.
5. Restart and it should work! You will have both AOD and the smart select edge fully working, just go to settings on the edge panel and select 'smart select' as one of your panels.
When the new AOD is installed it will have a 'learn how to use aod' notification on the AOD screen that you might not be able to get rid off. Just tap next very close to the bottom of you screen if it doesn't register.

So I am trying to load a couple of apks I have and it's been no go. On my Epic I usually just dropbox, open, and install. I tried that and initially got the security message. That is already taken care of via nookcolor tools. So that isn't the issue. My issue is every time I go to install I go to Astro, open the file via the "open app manager," it takes me to the info install page...I click install and it loads into the package installer, excellent...and then it just stalls and the progress bar runs and runs but never progresses. This has happened with every apk I have now tried.
Okay...so I figured I'd just go the little more involved (very little, no need to be that lazy, right) route and adb install. Well carp. All goes well, I adb install blahblah.apk and it starts rolling..."570kb blah..etc pkg /blah/temp/blah"...and just hangs there...never to give me the gratifying "success" message. Again, I have tried this with different apks that I know work and the same results. I restored to stock and rerooted, just in case. Same
I am running stock rooted (manualnooter) at this point, just got the nook day before yesterday (one of the many who jumped at the refurbs). Market apps download fine. I'm a blue dot, if that makes any diff. Likely not but meh.
I have searched and googled and not found the answers...but I know I am missing something elementally simple. My luck I'll look like an idiot and it will be a "did you check to see if you had any gas?" broken down car scenario. I'm okay with that, as long as I'm running again. I'm pretty sure I checked all the out of gas scenarios but I likely missed one or two so... any help is much appreciated. Thanks a ton...
I should know better than trying to write before coffee
Well, My answer is not a "check gas" answer. It's pretty dang weird.
1. Download ES Explorer from the market.
2. Start ES Explorer, hit Menu>Settings. Goto Root Options (NEW) and tick both check boxes. Hit allow when it asks you to.
3. Go back twice, until you see your sd card contents. Find the APK on there and select and hold. Hit copy and then hit the 1st button on the row of buttons (it's an icon of an sd card OR a Home icon) If you see a data folder, go in to it. If not, hit the 1st button again.
3. Once in the data folder, go into the app folder. Pull up the little white tab on the bottom. Tap the APK you wanted to install. It will copy. Once you see the APK's icon in the folder, hit the home button and restart. That should have installed it but it is a slow method. Note that you can Multi-Select APK's by pressing the Multi-select button and pasting them all in the /data/app/ folder.
are you sure you have side loading checked
Settings > applications should be the top box.

I think he already took care of that. And he is on stock, so there is no Applications setting.
ikingblack, thank you, thank you!
Not sure why but by doing this it somehow unsnafued the package installer as well (fingers crossed). I went through your instructions with a known good apk that would not install for anything before. And there it was after the copy, paste reboot etc. Not too much to ask for...still was confused as to the why of the normal package installer method not working. So I decided to give it (package inst) a go with another known working apk (I had just tested it on my epic) that previously wouldn't install, repeatedly, and now it installed just like it should. Scratching my head in wonder. It shouldn't be the reboot, as I have do so many times...the only difference is the install instructions and adding ES (I'm leaving astro behind I think). All I know is it is working and I am a happy camper (tent is in the back yard...) Thanks again! cheers!
Sure. Also, you can select all the APK's using the 2-file icon at the top and tapping the APKs, then press-and hold on one of the APk's and then go to data app, and keep tapping the APK's you wanna copy. And then reboot. Enjoy your Nook!
Thanks for this, it fixed it, but I don't know why.
I suffered this issue on my dell streak.
It was working fine a couple of days ago when I installed GetJar.
Suddenly today for no reason I can determine:
All APK's I tried the install button in the package installer was not grayed out, but it would not respond when pressed.
I've just been setting up my streak again and installing a lot of software. I'm guessing something must of gone wrong.
Someone on another post suggested JuiceDefender may have caused it but I've not installed that recently.
In my case I did:
(1) Installed esFileExplorer
(2) Copied an apk to the folder /data/app/ as described above
(3) restarted the phone
This did not install the app for me.
(4) Tried running the apk file again. Suddenly the Install button is clickable again?! The app then installed just fine.
(5) Tried a different apk (without copying to /data/app/)
Now that will install fine?!
This is really weird. I can't replicate the issue now (which is good!)
but I also can't tell which action fixed it.
As said above it may have been installing esfileexplorer and giving it root access.
It may have been the act of copying the file that reset something.
It wasn't the reboot, at lease not on its own as i'd already tried it.
Regardless, thanks for the info.
If anyone sees this issue again you might want to just try installing esfileexplorer and see if apk's will then install.
This might help us identify which bit of the process is creating the fix.
Just found another suggestion if anyone is interested:
Some suggests using the 'Fix permissions' option of Titanium Backup. I have no way to test this.

I have the DQD7 latest update as well. But I cannot install the weather apps of S8...
Even tried by using apk editor. I changed the package name and re-compiled it. I managed to install it as a separate app, but it was not working...
The April Security update is blocking a lot of the Samsung built-in apps from being updated. It usually errors with "The Package conflicts with an existing package by the same name" Does not make a difference if you rollback the last one that worked it will still cause the same error almost each and every time.
It seems that the only apks you can install after the April's security update are the ones that have their own icon (and not just the android head).
The ones with the android head as an icon are probably considered system apps and you cannot install them (like the s8 samsung weather apks), however the ones with their own icon (like the latest s8 samsung home app), can be installed without any problem.
So I suppose we will have to wait from an updated weather app apk...

When I tried installing any S8 APKs I would get the package with the same name error, so here's what I did to be able to install all the S8 APKs I wanted.
1: I put all the APKs I wanted to install on my SD card
2: I used Samsung Cloud to backup my phone (apps, data etc...) but I backed up my Whatsapp chat using Whatsapp chat backup
3: I turned off my phone and booted into recovery and did a factory reset
4: When phone booted back up, I went through all the prompts without adding any accounts(Google, Samsung, etc), I didn't even connect WiFi
5: I opened My Files and opened the folder on my SD card with the S8 APKs
6: I first installed the S8 Launcher, then went into settings/apps/Touch Wiz Home and cleared data
7: Returned back to my S8 APK folder and installed the rest, then rebooted my phone
8: Added my Google & Samsung account and restored from my Samsung Cloud backup, my phone returned the exactly the way it was before I reset it, all missing apps were reinstalled, homescreen were set back up the way they were and all S8 APKs installed are working fine.

I agree... I don't want to factory reset my phone just to get the weather widgets...
I will wait to see if/when new apks of them will be uploaded on apk mirror or wait until a more experienced member finds a way to do it.
The closest I got was that by altering the package names of the apks using apk editor pro, I managed to install the s8 weather widgets as separate apps. So when I was searching through my widgets I could see both the s7 weather widgets and the s8 weather widgets. But unfortunately, when adding the s8 widgets on my home screen, they just stayed there saying "loading" and never loaded any city or time/date etc...

Hi,
After receiving an OTA update I my phone got updated to May security patch.
As we all know, after this we are unable to download apk's in order to update the apps due to package conflicts etc etc.
I think I found a easy workaround that ad been working, at least for me, always I needed. Just finished updating 7 apps.
They procedure is ad follows:
1. Download the app (I always use apkmirror)
2. Go to Samsung File Manager/My Files and create a shortcut of the app to your Home screen
3. Go to settings > lockscreen & security
4. Disable all lockscreen securities
5. Reboot phone
6. Install all apps by clicking on the shortcuts you created.
After this you can enable lockscreen securities again.
That's it, easy as that!
Please share your experiences to see if also work for you.

Yea I already tried this a while back, seems to work for some, not others
That said, there are some apps that will still install on mine with the April patch that also caused problems, the latest TouchWiz Home installs fine, and so does the latest Gallery
I think the problem is with the apps not the security patch, as previous versions would not install, latest versions will
Maybe some apps are not compatible with the update you are running until they are also updated
I tried to update several apps but I wasn't able. Seems like this method is not working for me anymore....
Well Hello there!
Everything was working fine but then that was the problem because devil was prying its eyes on my phone
Now I can't click on install button when installing apps from apk file. Cancel button is working fine and also installing apps from app store have no issues as well. I have tried installing other apps and on some them install option is working and those are the apps which do not require any permissions. So the apps with any permission access have problem with Install button.
Everything was working fine but the I installed the last app named Network Monitor mini downloaded from other source and this app has a permission "Draw over other app and Modify system settings" maybe something fishy?! and also while I was typing here, Lg keyboard is not working properly like its automatically autocorrects on its own, turns caps, etc. I was hard time while typing here.
Any help? :crying:

I've tried everything I could. Well there were some topics like this that were around 4 year old which caused due to some apps like lux, screen dimmer, etc. but I don't have anything like that and also this keyboard is causing problem a lot like auto typing, cursor jumping somewhere else, etc. Maybe factory reset is only thing left. Thanks anyway :good:
I had the same Problem a few weaks ago.
To fix it i first download the .apk file again. Then i opened a File Manager (for me it's Es File Explorer) went to the Download folder and clicked on the .apk file, the install Button didn't work. Now You have to click on the recent Apps Button in your navbar and switch to another App and directly switch back to the File Explorer, where the Installation windows is still open. Now i could press the install Button.
Hope this works.

This is happening to me and it's the first time ever. I thought the phone was knackered again. I got into a boot loop when I flash the Magisk 17.0 zip from TWRP (the recommended option to install after DL was not visible). Could not get out of boot loop but was able to boot into TWRP so I just flashed Fulmics again (easiest option for me) and restored some backups and downloaded some APKs. Only one APK would install normally but if I pressed the power button and then woke the phone up again with the power button it would work and the "Install" option would no longer be greyed out.
Does anyone know why this is happening and if there is a permanent fix?
There are bits and pieces of this all over XDA (and the web) so I thought I'd just put it here to make it easier.
I purchased a Chinese Huawei Media Pad M3 8' WiFi tablet in March 2018 with the following details.
Model: CPN-W09
Build: CPN-W09C233B066 , CPN-W09C233B067 (updated 8 Apr 2017 with no negative effects)
EMUI 5.1
Android 7.0
Kernel: 3.18.31-gee0501b
I wanted to get google services on this device. This is what finally worked for me.
Startup the tablet. Select USA English, skip Huawei registration and Wifi. Skip cloud services, enable pin, enable fingerprint ID. Get to home screen.
Connect to computer, enable file transfer and drop GSM the gsminstaller apk into your download folder. Install the gsminstaller and after the installer is installed, open it and press the 'one touch installation button'. After that, I installed Google Play service 12.5.20 and Google Play store 9.3.14 both of which I downloaded from apkmirror.com.
I was able to log into my google account and everything seems to be working fine. I even reset the tablet to factory specs to make sure I had the right steps and it looks like the GSM core stayed installed.
Note I got the link to the gsmcore (gsminstaller.apk) from this thread. so thanks.
Also, as I researched this, I stumbled across a couple of other tidbits that I thought I'd put here.

To get the Project Manager (install firmware from SD card, reset etc) aka Manufacture Mode enter: ()()2846579()() =
Hope this helps someone else.

Use the Files app to find the APK where you put it on the tablet, double click it and install the APK (app). After it is installed , you'll see the icon in your apps. Click that and then you will see the one-touch install button.
Report back here if it works so other people can find the info for your tablet.

I have the same problem, it just doesn't allow you to install the APK (App may damage your device, Installation forbidden.) and there is no option to turn off checking apks

To skip the Hicare check, you just need to disconnect from the internet before you double click on the APK. Then you should be able to install the GSMinstaller.

When I switched off and on the external sources/third party app radio buttons, there was an option to "Enable external sources app to scan..." that was enabled by default. I disabled that tick box and it never checked any APK's again.
Hope this works for you.
I follow the steps, and got the play store installed, but when I went to install a few games, it said it couldn't install them. It also said the google play services wouldn't work unless it was updated, but when I went to update it, it didn't say there was an update. A few things installed, like Nova launcher. The games I tried to install, I was able to install them last time without a problem (don't remember what I did then to get Google play to work). Today I unlocked the bootloader and rooted it,and it obviously erased everything. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have the WiFi only model.
It worked for my MEDIAPAD M3, I had to factory reset it, and skip all the set up options. do not add any password or wifi to it. just skip it all, then run the GMS installer., and also install the google play store , framework and play services.
then, you can add your wifi password.
