I'm about to buy an international G935F Galaxy s7 edge. And sell my Tmobile usa g935t, all this because I want real full root, twrp, rom development, etc...
I've never had an international version before and want to verify rooting a G935f is possible even currently today (may 2017) with all current updates. I'm assuming when I get it (I'll be buying a used device second hand online) the previous owner will undoubtedly factory reset it and/or simply Odin a fresh current firmware.
Assuming that's the case, rooting a G935f should be fine and can be done right?
Are there any differences between the 935f versions? Do I need to ask any questions before hand? Should I be looking for anything specific? Specific quirks, etc....
I do live in the usa, I'll be using Tmobile usa on the device exclusively. I do not travel... I'm only buying the international variant strictly to get real full root, twrp, and rom development.
Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you for reading.

my advice? don't root at all only decent thing I could do with it was change boot animation the rest could be mostly be done on unrooted devices...overall a waste of time and not worth voiding warranty

No problem rooting G935F. I have the same phone.
I'm one of those users who can't live without rooting. I actually risk my phone warranty by rooting within 1 week from purchase. I've done this for all my phones, fortunately nothing bad yet happened that will need warranty repairs.
I'm using Tasker with Secure Settings for automation. Also Xposed for modifying system such as status bar and dpi among others.
Is there any issue using the G935F on tmobile? Does the 4x4 MIMO work? All the LTE/radio bands work for Tmobile?

I'd easily pay 500 euros a year to not see adds (and I'm not going to have to payl). And I wouldn't use a phone daily without a firewall blocking every little icon pack from accessing my data.

I'll be getting a Note 3 today (hopefully) and I want to root and stuff, but I've got a few questions and I would really appreciate if someone more knowledgeable could answer them.
1) What is this KNOX trigger that everyone keeps talking about? How do I trigger it and what happens if I "trigger" it?
2) I'll be getting the Note 3 from Wind Mobile, which I assume will most likely be same as T-Mobile Note 3 (Could someone actually even confirm that for me?). But in the forum list, there are Note 3 forums for Sprint, At&T and T-Mobile and another forum for generic Note 3. Does that mean that the recovery/roms are not interchangeable?
3) As a followup to the last question, does this rooting method work regardless of the phone?
Thanks for the help.

if you root you trip knox so your warranty is void ,there are ways to root without tripping knox but you cant have any custom roms or cwm, twrp ,
but if you dont care about warranty you can do what you like :silly:

1) Knox is a new security feature by Samsung. The idea is simple, you mess up with system files by rooting, Samsung will know. What will happen? Nothing but make you feel annoyed.
2) Yes, is not interchangeable.
3) Read the OP of the thread carefully to know which model is supported

Safest way is root then use wanam exposed for theme. Personally I would just root and leave recovery stock to keep knox counter 0x0.

You don't flash via recovery iirc, It involves copying and replacing file system libs etc, It's a pretty clever workaround. KNOX stays 0x0.
He has gone into major detail regarding it also, I will try and dig up the thread.

I didn't find a topic about KNOX counter at least not in the S6 forums, I just wanted to make a topic where you can discuss what does or doesn't trip the KNOX counter.
In the past I have always flashed custom roms to all my devices, most of the times flashing a custom recovery was one of the first things I did. With this device I'm not sure what I'm going to do, it arrives later this week and I've read a lot of people are happy with with stock rom and don't see a benefit in voiding the warranty for de-bloating etc.
Do you care about KNOX warranty and it's features or not? If not why?
Things SHOULDN'T trip KNOX:
[ROOT] PingPongRoot ***S6 & S6 Edge Root Tool*** (Read instructions carefully!)
Things that do trip KNOX:
CF auto root
Flashing any unsigned image, whether a kernel, recovery or a custom ROM
From what I've read the only true importance of KNOX for the average user is the ability to use Samsung PAY. I'm waiting for it to be released and for people to test out the various roots/roms/exploits to see what trips knox, etc.
Although the stock ROM is good, I really wanna remove some of ATT's bloat :/ I'm sure a lot of people are in the same boat regarding carrier bloat.
I am still keeping my knox intact by ping pong root , i have removed many of the useless apps and installed some of my favorites apps for better battery management and used CSC Feature Expert for some tweaks . still waiting for custom rom that doesn't trip knox .

Why not use debloater to disable the bloat in the mean time?
I haven't received my device yet but here in Australia they use the 920I version and back home in Belgium they use global 920F model. On a few Australian forums I've read that Samsung Australia doesn't give warranty to overseas models. On Yatango they sold both the 920I and the 920F, so I decided that I would take the global 920F since I will have to go back to Europe eventually... Normally I have 1 year of warranty trough Yatango while in Australia.
And in Belgium we normally have 2 years of warranty and since I'm buying the international unlocked version they sell in Belgium there should be no reason for Samsung to refuse me warranty if necessary.
Normally rooting and flashing CMW/Cyanogenmod is the first thing I do after opening the box of my device, but with my previous phones I had to use the warranty every time. First my Xiaomi M2s got an unresponsive screen and ghost touches, I got a brand new one from Xiaomi sold it and bought a Oneplus one. Sadly the same thing happened to that device after a month, I sent it back and got a new one that one worked for half a year until I was in Australia for a week. Same problem... So 3 times so far I had to deal with horrible Chinese customer service and had to get trough a lot of hassle to replace it, but this time Oneplus refused me warranty because they don't ship/pick up in Australia. That is the mean reason I just went for a Samsung now because for 1 I hope there devices are built better and because I just want to be able to have normal warranty.
With Oneplus, Xiaomi, ZTE etc you can just flash the fastboot image and lock the bootloader again and they don't refuse warranty, but with the S6 it would be a real shame if they would not fix a hardware issue because KNOX is tripped. Hopefully I won't need warranty this time!
I will see how annoying all the bloat ware is and if I really have to remove it with root or if just hiding it will be enough.
Well, what does trip Knox besides custom ROM's? Custom kernels? Xposed? Adblock? I have no clue.
And my last Samsung device was the original Note which didn't have Knox. When I got my One M7 I sweared I wouldn't touch Samsung's phones again, especially with their Knox/eFuse shenanigans. But right now the S6 is one of the best choices out there..
Just some information I got from a different forum (gsm forum) about knox on other samsung devices. It appears that devices with snapdragon chips use efuses and once blown they can not be reset but devices with exynos store that information in a special partition that can be erased and reprogramed with special software AND hardware.
There is also some information here on XDA on the note 3 and knox: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2642207

I wouldn't assume anything about the S6/S6E based on this.
Actually I have my Knox virgin, and I prefer to keep it this way, just because I don't want to perform a modify that can't be restored in the future (we may need it); and actually I don't feel the need for flashing anything that trips KNox, I'm happy with my stock rooted phone....

KNOX Counter has the following benefits:
a. Even though your device is lost, the person who stole it cannot use it. Without your account, the device cannot be reset to factory settings and flashed with any ROM.
b. KNOX protects your private data and information with its advanced technology. Here is the official link to White Paper: An Overview of Samsung KNOX

Well flashing a custom rom doesn't necessarily trip Knox. As long as you don't install a custom recovery you can flash a custom rom using flashfire.

No, not yet because every rom here contains Aroma installer which is not supported yet by flashfire. However Chainfire claims this will happen eventually. On Verizon s6 there are already three custom roms which can be flashed with flashfire. Only o custom recovery or a custom kernel will trip knox.
I thought you could use flashfire for T-mobile and flash custom roms.. You just have to remove the boot.img and the script that installs the kernal from the .ZIP
Thought they got looper installed with flashfire

I tried King root and it said it cannot root the phone. I have Feb 21 build of the 5.1.1 rom.
I think, Galaxy J3 serie is not capable for root. No cfautoroot database is not available for this device. But root may be possible on Galaxy J5 and J7.

What it do folks. First of all, THANK YOU and I apologize. I dabble a bit more with my devices now and Ive had a lot more success then previous years and that would be due to the hard work you "techies" have dedicated and shared. So thank you for all the grueling and frustrating progress put in. I feel like I'm there with guys. As for my apology, I'm lost on singling out individuals that should recieve their just do. My bad. This is my first ever reply sort of like finally getting my feet on the steps in a refreshing icy summertime lake that holds now bounds. No brakes cause my foot is stuck on the gas.
I've rooted a few devices with KingRoot, KingoRoot PC edition was a success, and now the flag-ware Odin3(any version) takes the crown along with TWRP got my J327P 2016 from BST voided due to the cracks root has invaded with passion.
I thrive from any and all feedback and refuse to accept thats not possible or it cannot be done phrase; all I hear is "challenge accepted!" Please let me know if I'm not in the correct area for ranting but again thank you for all the knowledge and by all means charge on the great work!:good:
Just got a brand new verizon S7 (since my aunt did not want it). I am on Tmobile and have no plans to change to Verizon. I popped in my Tmo sim and it works, but I guess I am still missing Band 12 and maybe wifi calling. It has been a while since I have done custom roms and rooting. I would appreciate some pointers as these are my criteria
1) Need all the bands possible to be used on Tmobile
2) Samsung Pay and android Pay
3) Root is not required for what I do and sometimes my wortk email will not install when it snifs root. (it used to on my S5 2 years ago)
Right now I am on G930VVRS4APH1 (BASEBAND VERSION and build)
Looking for advise on what I should do. I read too much and am confused about being in bootloader V3 or V4 and not able to get back . I am familiar with Odin and TWRP etc, but have notg kept up with the community. With my S6 I have mostly stayed stock.
Help me out folks if you can and especially with links and what firmware and ROM to install.

Wrong. Pls give out accurate information. Knox never gets tripped as the kernel we use doesn't check dm-verity. So you Knox will not get tripped . But Sammy pay will not work with root. However Android Pay will work , use cloak from xposed. [emoji12] [emoji318]

I was in your situation as well , since I got a Verizon Galaxy S7 from a deal at Best Buy , but I needed to used it on T-Mobile . I believe I successfully flashed the latest APK1 T-mobile firmware (latest one from early November) . I am able to use WiFi calling and MMS , but I haven't tried video calling yet. Looks like I'm getting 4g LTE speeds also (I live in suburban part of Los Angeles).
Use this post from XDA forum to find the latest firmware version :

I also used this guide as well :

However, I suggest d/l 'ing the USB drivers from Samsung website directly, instead of the source cited in that website (seems suspicious). Also, having SmartSwitch on the PC saves so much time to backup your current phone's contents, believe me!
Hope that helps.

However, I suggest d/l 'ing the USB drivers from Samsung website directly, instead of the source cited in that website (seems suspicious). Also, having SmartSwitch on the PC saves so much time to backup your current phone's contents, believe me!
Hope that helps.

I actually need to do the exact same thing but my Verizon S7 is on the G930VVRU4API3, so from my understanding the U firmware i need to flash is the G930UUEU4API3?
just a tad bit off topic here, but i'm on tmobile right now with a tmo version S7 and wondering if it will work on Verizon if i unlock the phone?
I was with sprint for 15 years and part of the nexus or HTC brand ever since smart phone days. My first taste of rooting was the the HTC Evo on sprint.
I can help out with testing in anyway that I can, anything, to calm my nerves on not having a rooted phone for the first time in years.
Lets do this!

Now that you're a member of the Verizon/Samsung family might as well get comfy not having root :silly:
^This.
Possible the only reason I'm on the fence for the s8+ and debating whether to hang around for Pixel2

It is for the exynos version. It will only work with an unlocked bootloader. The international version has a unlocked bootloader the US (snapdragon version) has a locked bootloader.

It shows the Verizon variant in the list. Root doesn't require an unlocked bootloader, kernel mods do though. My GS5 was rooted from the day I got it. But only recently did the bootloader become unlocked to allow kernel/source modification. Just wondering why the Verizon variant would be listed if Chainfire's method doesn't work for it

The CF-Auto-Root supports the following Galaxy S8 Plus models:
SM-G955F
SM-G955U
SM-G955N
SM-G955W
I realize there's a chance he doesn't know the details but it was listed on the 3rd so just bringing it up.

Root using CF Autoroot requires an unlocked bootloader. So it is a no go on the SM-G955U. Your GS5 was a totally different animal than the newer Samsung devices. CF Auto Root modifies the kernel to achieve root.
