Hello everyone, hope all is well.
I was trying to install a factory ROM for my Galaxy S7 Edge and during the process, I believe I went and flashed a wrong ROM file (I think it was Galaxy S6 Edge's).
Anyways, due to that, my phone is completely bricked (softbricked? because I can turn it on?).
The problem I'm having is that when I turn on the device normally, it will show the GALAXY S7 EDGE logo but then it'd go straight into recovery mode.
In the recovery mode, it'd say "dm-verity verification failed.. " , "E: failed to mount /system (Invalid argument)". Then when I press Apply update from ADB/SD Card, it gives an error saying "Update from external storage is disabled".
I am able to get into the download mode also and downloaded correct factory ROM and flashed it but it gives me an error saying "Odin protocol version error" in the phone, and in Odin, it stops at "Initializing..." and the program crashes after 5 minutes or so.
I there anything I can do to unbrick this dude? I've been searching all over the place yesterday and could't find a right solution for me so I decided to write one myself.
Thanks in advance and I'll appreciate any help.

First of all why were you trying to flash a stock Rom? Next its a piece of cake take it to your local warranty store and ask them to flash your stock ROM as long as you didn't try to root it they should fash it for you. I've done it many times. Just tell them you were charging it overnight and had it turned off and when you booted up the next morning it was going crazy.
As I said if you weren't trying to root they should do it for you.

I was on a rooted Galaxy S7 firmware for development purpose but I wanted to take it back to factory setting and un-root the device by installing a fresh new one.

That sounds like a clever idea but if there's any way I could try to do it by myself before I take it to them, I wanted to try.

Well now I couldn't flash any of the firmwares out there that I found. I kept on getting the same error stated above. It is usa at&t model.
Perhaps, is there a custom ROM and/or other steps you'd recommend me to try?
Thanks for your replies though, I appreciate it very much.

I will try what you have suggested. But isn't twrp only install-able when the phone is actually turned on to OS? As far as I've researched, I saw that it needs to have developer mode on.

I tried to download one here http://androiding.how/galaxy-s7-edge-twrp-recovery/ and tried to flash it but I get the same error => "Odin protocol version error!", and stuck at "Initialization..".
Do you think you could verify if that link could be the one I'm looking for?

i am not a dev mate just learn from observation lol but from other devices i have seen them bricked if thats not been allowed in dev options but i am not 100% sure on this one service center is probs you best bet as some one said earlier as am sure if thats not checked nothing can be flashed as that command allows it its like the bootloader is still locked kind of thing
I would take it a service repair center before messing it up anymore, just to be on the safe side, you never know with these things, yeah it might be fixable but if knox isn't voided then you can just have it repaired properly for free.

Did you manage to get this sorted?
I'm having same issue
bump
I cannot do any more looking to night. Is there a stock recovery for the 900A somewhere? I keep finding only firmwares.
I used dd to write a recovery to the sd card and now I get a message that says "System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest AT&T store for help." After the boot screen, this is all I get when I start the phone after doing a factory reset. I can get into download mode though.
This is the worst phone I've ever dealt with when it comes to flashing. WTF AT&T?!

Att s5 has locked bootloader, no custom recovery or anything. What Android version was it on before you softbricked it?
Sent from my Galaxy S5 using XDA Labs
It was on Lollipop, 5.0. If I remember right it was the OF2 or OF3 build. It was rooted. It also has a padlock on the first boots screen that says "custom" under it.

Should be good to flash the NCE firmware then, includes recovery so just flash that and you can go back up to rooted L.

After spending way too much time on this, I found a rooted ROM that had a recovery with it for the OF2 build. I downloaded that and made an Odin flashable image and flashed the recovery... so basically what you're suggesing, I think. Just a different version.
Instructions can be found here in case anyone happens to do this. https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys5/comments/4umm9z/where_can_i_find_stock_recovery/

I have an official US AT&T S7 Edge bought from the carrier themselves, and I attempted to root it.
Really, I didn't do anything wrong. I turned my phone onto download mode, opened up Odin, selected the root AP and pressed Start.
It performed successfully, however, now it'll show the "Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge" logo screen on repeat, turning off and on every 2-3 seconds. Not stuck on the regular Samsung logo.
Did it work? Did I break it? What do I do? Do I run the root.bat or am I screwed?
Thanks

the bootloader is locked so no root is available for any snapdragon s7 edge just flash stock rom
Kinda ****ed right now.
Stuck on that loop for a while, tried downloading a stock ROM to flash it with, and it wouldn't work due to multiple Odin errors. Tried everything to do with my USB cable, and still nothing.
Now I can't even get on the recovery boot screen...

whats the link again im stuck in the same exact situation and in need of help very badly very very badly
The phone of my girlfriend has been stuck in a bootloop for a few days. It happened while she watched a video. Apparently at the same time she got a message that her phone ran out of space. Then it crashed and has been stuck in the loop since then. Her phone is not rooted. She did restore the device to default settings using recovery mode. This didn't do anything however.
I've tried using ODIN 3.12.3 to flash the newest rom from sammobile since her carrier is T-Mobile. I followed a guide from adnroid central since I never had done anything like this before. It all worked as far as ODIN goes but is still stuck in the bootloop. I'd link the guide but I need 10 posts before I can include outside links.
I'm not sure what the next step would be. If I should try an older ODIN version or use a different stock rom. Before the whole incident her android version was 6.0.1 I believe. Also in the download mode the product name is SMG-900T.
I hope someone can point me in the right direction on what to do. Thank you!

not anymore. there was a patch that fixed the bug that allowed this to occur. Sammy is always right on our tails. now you need the combination firmware, which you flash in Odin as well then follow it up with the stock firmware from sammobile since the combination FW isnt really bootable (it is, but its weird lol)

I flashed the combination firmware. After that I flashed my stock firmware but now I get stuck on recovery screen. First it says "Erasing" and then the dead Android mascot shows up. Can't boot into system. Any suggestions? FRP Lock is still on and I can't flash TWRP, custom binary is locked by frp.
possible solution
Hi, how are you? I'm sorry for my english, I'm from Brazil and I'm using the ksks translator so with my j5 i used the frp hijacker (just put it on google) there you choose the phone model, put it in download mode, install the program on the computer, choose the model, check remove frp and a hijack it! and ready frp unlocked

tried it on another computer? Ive had that issue with my desktop/laptop(s). I never dug into what caused it to fail on the desktop vs working on a few laptops. Literally everything else works exactly as it should on the desktop so i just let it be an unresolved oddity. Likely not worth the time it would take to resolve. Anywho, try a different computer and/or diff cable. I just ordered an Anker cable from amazon and its thicker and more sturdy than the micro usb cable ive been hanging on to from my old blackberry tour. Cables are stupid cheap online these days, even for the very very good ones. Perhaps worth a shot, but i cant suggest that you spend money on anything. I can say that its what I would do.
