I cannot do any more looking to night. Is there a stock recovery for the 900A somewhere? I keep finding only firmwares.
I used dd to write a recovery to the sd card and now I get a message that says "System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest AT&T store for help." After the boot screen, this is all I get when I start the phone after doing a factory reset. I can get into download mode though.
This is the worst phone I've ever dealt with when it comes to flashing. WTF AT&T?!

Att s5 has locked bootloader, no custom recovery or anything. What Android version was it on before you softbricked it?
Sent from my Galaxy S5 using XDA Labs
It was on Lollipop, 5.0. If I remember right it was the OF2 or OF3 build. It was rooted. It also has a padlock on the first boots screen that says "custom" under it.

Should be good to flash the NCE firmware then, includes recovery so just flash that and you can go back up to rooted L.

After spending way too much time on this, I found a rooted ROM that had a recovery with it for the OF2 build. I downloaded that and made an Odin flashable image and flashed the recovery... so basically what you're suggesing, I think. Just a different version.
Instructions can be found here in case anyone happens to do this. https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys5/comments/4umm9z/where_can_i_find_stock_recovery/

Greetings. My buddy tried to root his phone last night, and did so, but failed to unlock the boot loader. Today he tried to flash TWRP and now is stock on the downloading screen pre boot.
I have found the instructions for flashing the stock rom via odin, but need to verify what version of the software i need to get for his phone. Unfourtunately I cant get into ABOUT on his phone but via the sticker his model is SGH-I337. His wife purchased her s4 the exact same time together with him. I had her check build info and it was JDQ39.I337UCUAM53.
Can someone point me to a place to get the correct rom to flash via Odin to fix his device? Once I have it back up for him I will worry about getting it completely unlocked, if possible.
As always, thank you in advance for any help provided.
Pretty sure the build number you posted ends in mf3. There is no odin flashable firmware. Your best bet is to take it to best buy which had a Samsung experience. They can flash the firmware there. But you'll have to all real nicely. You can get the phone to boot by canceling the download mode, vol down, when it boots to that.
Edit you ready need to read a lot more before you do anything with his phone. There is no unlocked boot loader and you can't flash roms like you may be used to with an unlocked boot loader.

This helped me.

Are you sure the firmware version is JDQ39.I337UCUAM53, or is it JDQ39.I337UCUAMF3.
Not possible to unlock the MF3 bootloader yet so if you flashed TWRP you likely need to go to Best Buy to get the phone fixed.

There is no odin flashable firmware available. I should add for a device on mf3. You can't flash an earlier version either

Thanks for the info.
As I said, my buddy did this, im just trying to fix it.
FYI. I did the VLM down and we are not booted into the phone, thanks for that!!!!
Phone is MF3. So is TWRP installed? Is the recovery good now? Is there anything else I need to do?

Twrp is not installed. Trying to install it is what borked the recovery. You can't install a custom recovery on mf3 firmware.

The boot loader is locked so you can't install or boot to a secondary recovery on MF3.

Right, but wanted to make sure the boot loader on it isnt messed up now.
Thanks for the quick response!
Were you able to get it to a samsung experience shop?
It would be better to get your "buddy" to do a little reading instead of asking questions on his behalf. Is there a reason you are asking these questions and your buddy isn't responding himself? Well, you can tell your buddy it would be good to read the "pinned" threads in the General and Q & A sections. There is a lot of information and links in those threads that will help your buddy to learn about the phone and what he is doing to it before it becomes a brick. Good luck to your buddy.
So I had my galaxy s4 rooted and rom'd. I went to unroot it so I could sell it via this method http://www.androidrootz.com/2014/03/how-to-unrootunbrick-at-galaxy-s4-sgh.html
Everything passed in Odin, however I cannot get into recovery, it sticks at this screen that says "Software has been found on your device not supported by AT&T"
I can still go into download mode, but not recovery.
Any help? Please

It should go away after a few reboots, it doesn't always update immediately.
I have an i337 NC1 build Galaxy S4 (AT&T). I'm totally new to custom roming, but I wanted to give it a shot for fun. I tried using towelroot along with SuperSu, and TWRP Manager to flash TWRP onto my phone because it supposedly worked on NC1. Apparently I did something wrong because I no longer have a recovery mode. It just gives the downloading/target screen when I try to access it. Am I screwed or is there some possible way for me to fix this? Thanks!

You can't just install a recovery just like that because at&t has a locked bootloader. You will probably need something like safestrap.
Go to the proper forum for help.

That's a completely different problem. Sounds more like a hardware failure. But you should make your own thread with way more information if you want people to take a closer look.

Ah, right. Forgot about AT&T not exactly being so customize friendly, unlike the non-AT&T phones. Scratch what I said in my above post. AT&T phones have more restrictions (security) when it comes to flashing, etc. Use the link above and make sure you find a proper thread that will help you out.
My s4 was rooted about a year ago with the logo SAMSUNG and Unlocked with an open lock below it when it boots up. I gave this phone to my girlfriends daughter and forgot to tell her not to try and update it. I don't remember the way i rooted it or what software it had on it at the time.
So when I go to recovery after it loads into an AT&T logo and tries to install it and it gets to 24%. After this it bootloops. Any help would be appreciated. My phone model is SGH-I337 , also not sure of what the original firmware is.

Open lock symbol means your phone is rooted not unlocked.
If you could go to the recovery mode (voloume-up+home+power) it would tell you your firmware version. You could try clear cache, factory reset in recovery mode. If it still gives you the bootloop, you might need to flash the firmware via odin.
You can find instructions and necessary files in here and here.
No recovery options
Sorry I left that part out. When it goes to recovery i get the blue text that say recovery then it goes straight to the AT&T installing. So no recovery options. I can still get to the Odin dowloading screen though and it says im running Samsung Original software

One reason I asked you to go to the recovery option was to know what version of firmware you were on before .
Do you remember you were on jelly bean or kick-kat or lollipop? If you do you can find the firmware for jelly bean and kit-kat on the links I mentioned in the previous message.
If you could not recall your firmware, the latest odin flashable firmware we have is kit-kat NB1.
You can flash that one to revive your phone. Then use twoel root to root the phone. After that you can go to lollipop if you want. All the instructions are there.
Woop Woop!

I am glad that it works out for you.
Rooting is so easy from that point. Just get towel root and root it. The link also included in my previous post. After the root you might need to disable the AT&T OTA update too. The instructions are also in that post too.
The phone of my girlfriend has been stuck in a bootloop for a few days. It happened while she watched a video. Apparently at the same time she got a message that her phone ran out of space. Then it crashed and has been stuck in the loop since then. Her phone is not rooted. She did restore the device to default settings using recovery mode. This didn't do anything however.
I've tried using ODIN 3.12.3 to flash the newest rom from sammobile since her carrier is T-Mobile. I followed a guide from adnroid central since I never had done anything like this before. It all worked as far as ODIN goes but is still stuck in the bootloop. I'd link the guide but I need 10 posts before I can include outside links.
I'm not sure what the next step would be. If I should try an older ODIN version or use a different stock rom. Before the whole incident her android version was 6.0.1 I believe. Also in the download mode the product name is SMG-900T.
I hope someone can point me in the right direction on what to do. Thank you!

Google search for marshmallow bootloader and flash it through Odin. I am very good with android. I can fix your problem. Is there anyway you could direct message me?
